Moira by Deepak Agarwal is a book and story which is unconventionally real, raw and heartbreaking which is at the same time going to give you immense strength and power to face the world headstrong.
Moira is the story of a girl named Mihika Singh, where she talks about so many things about her life which I am sure we all will be able to relate to at some level or the other. There are incidents which we all will be able to tell that we have heard these stories or have happened with our neighbors or friends and family.
Topics like Male dominated society, rape, politics and power as well as first love and many more things have been described in this book through Mihika's POV. The storytelling done by Deepak Agarwal in this book is very amazing being this a debut novel.
He has very well described the reality of our society through the curtains of fictional story and characters. The book definitely is a taboo breaker and teaches us to live in a label free society. It's about Mihika finding herself and her place in society.
I haven't read such a well-written book by an Indian debut author in a very long time.
One of my most anticipated reads once I came across the title.
The cover captured my attention the first time I laid my eyes on it. It gives a very meaningful vibe to me and speaks to me about solitude and memories of childhood. The artwork speaks to me so much.
I find the writing lyrical and beautiful. It will hook you right away once you start reading. It speaks volumes about our society and how we treat each other.
"The world is a promising place to build our careers; it only but lacks in enough love, and somewhere downstream, in pursuit of chasing success, money and fame, we suddenly find ourselves devoid of love and companionship - perhaps the most underrated elements of a happy life."
"We live in two worlds, one outside and one within... both our worlds are too big for us yet too small."
I love how each chapter has a catchy title which makes the reading quite a fun experience.
"I realised that love could be excruciating. And I thought it wasn't worth it. But you can't always control affection. Love fights and persists harder than we can. At times I forgot how amazing the fall could be."
There's a part in the story that showcases the connection between domestic animals and the narrator when she was a kid. It is so heartfelt and beautiful.
The part which made me quite emotional was the one dedicated to the mother. That is me saying the exact lines to my mother. I wonder if the author has known me all along.
The sibling bond is well captured. There's so many aspects of the story that feels home.
"When we love ourselves wholeheartedly and feel the ecstasy and happiness in our own solace, it is only then we can open our hearts to exude others with love thoroughly."
In the story, the author vividly shows how the patriarchal society still exists. How it discriminates on gender: not welcoming girl child, avoiding or neglecting them.
I haven't read an Indian contemporary so far that focuses positively on sex, sexuality and periods. It's high time. This book is such a groundbreaking debut I say!
For those interested in journalism, this book is a treat and a must-read. It provides some less known tips and tricks on how to thrive in this profession, what's required and what it actually means.
There are other so many important topics brought up in this book like sexual harrassment and what the victim feels, complicated adult relationships, strong female protagonist and how our society works.
It may feel like the plot/writing touch so many societal issues and the reader might find it overwhelming. But that's what I appreciate about the writing. As the story follows the life of a woman from her childhood till her marriage, these issues are quite common in the life of a woman. These important issues are brought up at the right time, at the perfect moment that you would find it quite relatable and common.
The story, the plot and the characters blend together so well and quite realistic.
The character development is quite outstanding. It's the character of the main character that stood out, not only in this book but in books I have read so far.
The story wrapped up perfectly towards the end leaving a bit of it to the readers to come to their own conclusions.
More power to empowerment of girls and women. Less discrimination and more upliftment. Thank you author for such a powerful story.
•"Moira: Never Planned to Fall in Love" is the story of Mihika Singh, a talented, hardworking and ambitious woman who wants to make a name for herself. However life is not that simple, as she chases her dreams, she also has to deal with love, emotions, and society’s expectations. The book explores her journey of self-discovery and finding balance between her career and personal life. This book highlights how difficult it can be for a woman to manage ambition, emotions, and relationships all at once.🙂
•"Moira" is an emotional heartfelt and thought-provoking story. The writing is simple, easy to understand and engaging, which makes it easy to connect with Mihika’s emotions. I also liked that this book is not just about a love story or romance, it’s about self-discovery, finding yourself, ambition, relationships, showed a woman’s inner thoughts, her dreams, and the challenges she faces. Yet ending was good and lil unpredictable as i didn't think that she'll meet her old memory and read the book to know more.❤
•I think Moira is a refreshing take on the struggles of modern women or if you want to learn about life especially in a society that constantly tries to shape their choices. Mihika’s character feels real, she is ambitious and determined yet vulnerable, strong yet emotional, making it relatable for many readers, in the end it'll definitely teach you an important lesson of life and most importantly it'll teach you that loving yourself is not selfish at all.❤️🩹
•If you enjoy emotional, thoughtful, relationships, and personal struggles, Moira is definitely worth reading. It’s a simple yet meaningful story that many will relate to. Definitely recommend this book to who want to understand women's struggles or life.
Having read this book, I must say this book is not his-story or her-story, it's your story. I couldn't control the tears while reading the stories of her childhood. Her struggle is real and the dilemma is one that all of us face somewhere in life. It's a story about life, fears, failures, face-off, success and give up but most importantly love. At the end of the day, "love is enough reason for things to fall apart."
It will remain with you forever! Why ? Coz it's different,it's unconventional and raw. While the fiction engages you to keep reading ,the way love is explained explores territories of your mind ventured never before .You will fall in love with Mihika ,a testimony to ambitions , unflinching self belief, courage and a single mother in a male dominated society!
This book, "Maira" is a beautiful melange of episodes in the life of a woman, Mihika Singh which carries the indespensable life experiences for everyone.
The author has very brilliantly penned down all the things which the protagonist encounters, the people she meets and incidents she has been surrounded with in her life.
In the story, the author has very aptly shown how the patriarchal society still prevails. How the parochial mindset leads to societal cleavages in the society. The messages this story carries, invariably resonate with the us, readers.
The themes of this story will leave you agape with its entirety as it talks about several overlooked and underrated issues which has always been there in our society, i.e, sex, sexuality, and periods.
And many more, like sexual harrassment and what the victim feels, women empowerment; how adult lives are full of complications and how it should be dealt with.
All the more, these sour, bitter and sweet episodes of the protagonist's life are so relatable, realistic and pragmatic that you will be developing likings for the same.
The protagonist goes through several changes as she explores different facets of intimacy in love, and each time rediscovers herself in it. In this long, tumultuous journey of moving only but ahead, does she stop for someone finally for what it's worth? Or does destiny prove too strong a force to conquer? You will have to flip through the pages of this beautiful book to find out the same.
Indeed, the author has developed a knack of finding beauty and lessons in every small story around him. The author has a unique style of relating the events of everyday life, with each instance giving us a new thought to focus on.
Full of inspirational tales expressing myriad emotions, the book is a treasure trove for anyone looking for stories that could change their lives with just a few words and impart in the readers a sense of contentment, hope, and belief.
The language of this book is very easy to read and the readers is invariably going to be hooked to these stories till the very end, it's guaranteed. I personally loved reading this book and will recommend this to you all to do give it a read. It's a must read guys!
Moira is an excellent articulation of dilemma, passion, love and conflicts of thoughts. Kudos to Deepak Agrawal for bringing such a difficult topic in his debut publication. The language and choices of words were unmistakably elegant and soft. I have generated lots of respect and affection for Mihika. Author has defined all three characters Aarav, Sahej and Danish around Mihika quite effortlessly showing a mature writing. Leaving Sahej for Kashika was also a debatable decision when Mihika is not satisfied the way Sahej reacted while explaining her relationship with Danish.
The blurb of this book had me. I was intrigued after reading it and I must say author did justice to the characters and the story.
Rating ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️
Mihika, a strong independent and fierce lady. Was she like this always? Or her life struggles forced her to be like this where she can only rely on herself?
The author beautifully expressed each phase of Mihika's life, laced with all the emotions, and yet you'll learn something valuable from each.
One thing I loved the most about the book is the "Name of the chapters". I'll tell you few like "Face of love", "Fall once, Rise Twice", "I wish it were a bad dream" and many more.
The ups and downs and the path where she had to make decisions but will they cost her something?
The book will keep you close and will make you go through several phases of a woman's life which are often ignored or overlooked by people close to her.
In this book, I feel Mihika's journey was more about exploration. Her life was beautifully written, with some instances blurring the line between reality and dream.
"Now bonded. Joined, connected -- our souls became one". Sex is paradox.
At certain parts, i felt the need for more clarification and more determined approach. I needed to go beyond that bridge. But yet author did justice to every character.
The author impressively wove the dilemma of Mihika's life into dialogues and beautiful poetic lines.
"All the fairy tales turned into gloomy tragedies, All roses turned into thorns"
The point where story ended was different from what I thought. I needed her to talk to Mihi di and resolve but the step that was taken once can't be back tracked. The letter... the scene and the raw emotions.
The ending left me with some questions. What if she was open about it? Was it any better to keep things bottled up? Is it necessary to try to erase someone to make place for yourself?
I liked the book but to be honest I wanted different ending with more answers than questions. I just wanted author to be more clear about genre. No doubt the writing is good but clarity is what I needed.
This book also mentioned about sexual ha**asment and r@pe at certain aspects. Please dive into the book only if you feel comfortable. Mental health matters.
First things first, thank you to the author and TLB for giving me this opportunity to read this book. This book follows Mihika Singh, the main character of this book. We witness her life, the struggles she faces, the love she finds, the loss she faces, and many life aspects that shaped her. It was an interesting journey. What I liked - 1. I liked how beautifully the emotions were penned. The raw emotions that Mihika dealt with and felt deep within due to different incidents, all were beautifully written. 2. We get to see Mihika in her truest form, her life aspect at different stages of her life; we witness. 3. I loved how the growth and the fall, all were mentioned, which made it more realistic at some points. 4. The second half of the book made it more interesting for me. What I want to point out - 1. As a reader I prefer medium-sized paragraphs and dialogue to keep me hooked, including a good plot of course. What made it a little difficult to follow this book for me was the longer paragraphs and very little dialogue. 2. The writing style, although very fine and beautiful, wasn't for me to some extent. I liked the writing style but I missed the smooth transition from scene to scene. But that didn't make me dislike the book. Overall - The beautifully woven words, the facts, the life events, I was amazed. I really appreciate the characters. The complications in Mihika's life, that letter by Kasika, made me emotional. The love she found by the end and the friend she lost. Happy or not, it was definitely a beautiful ending. Definitely Recommended
The title likely symbolizes the protagonist Mihika's journey, shaped by her choices, experiences, and the forces beyond her control.
Moira is a Greek word meaning fate or destiny
I recently finished reading Moira by Deepak Agarwal, and while I appreciate the depth and complexity of its plot, this book was not for me. The story follows mihika Singh, a sensitive and emotional young woman who explores personal challenges, mistakes, and life lessons. Her journey of growth and self-discovery is well-presented, but after 20 chapters I felt disconnected.
The book explores intimacy and love, showing Mihika rediscovering herself with each experience. However, I personally couldn’t relate to how easily she got involved with different men. While the emotions were well-written and realistic, I didn’t find them entirely believable. Miheeka’s decision to lie to Sahaj also made me feel sympathetic towards her, as her situation seemed unfair.
That said, the book is engaging with a clear and straightforward writing style. My favorite character was Danish. Her presence added depth to the story, and I found her journey particularly moving. If you're interested in themes of infidelity and emotional complexity, Moira might be worth reading. But for me, it didn't resonate in the way I had hoped.
Moira is a story about Mihika Singh, a woman who has come a long way in understanding herself and her feelings. The book takes us inside her mind, showing us that a woman’s thoughts are not impossible to understand—they’re just a part of her journey. Instead of being a confusing maze, her mind is a place of growth, mistakes, and learning.
What makes this story special is how honestly it shows Mihika’s struggles. She’s not perfect—she makes mistakes, feels hurt, and sometimes questions herself. But she owns her feelings and keeps moving forward. She’s sensitive and caring, but also strong when it comes to chasing her dreams. Her journey isn’t easy, especially when it comes to love. She loves, she loses, she learns, and she keeps trying. It’s a real, raw look at someone trying to make sense of her heart.
The main themes of the book are about balancing ambition and love, figuring out what really matters, and learning to accept oneself. Mihika’s story shows that love isn’t always smooth or easy—it’s messy and full of ups and downs. She experiences heartbreaks and doubts, but she also learns important lessons about herself along the way. Her story is told in a slow, steady way, like watching the seasons change. Each phase of her life brings new feelings and new understanding, making her journey feel true and natural.
The way the book is written is simple but deep. The words feel like a chat with a good friend—warm, honest, and full of understanding. The story flows gently, giving you time to feel what Mihika feels and think about your own thoughts on love and life. The author clearly put a lot of care into creating a story that respects Mihika’s feelings and shows her growth without rushing or sugar-coating anything.
What I really liked about Moira is how kind it is to its main character. Mihika isn’t judged for her mistakes; instead, she’s shown as someone trying her best, just like everyone else. Her flaws and struggles make her feel real, and her moments of clarity are inspiring. It’s obvious that a lot of care went into writing her story, and that the author genuinely understands what it’s like to be a woman trying to find her place in the world.
Listening to Mihika’s story, makes you think about your own ideas of love, dreams, and self-acceptance. The story shows that growth isn’t always a straight path—it has its twists and turns, but that’s okay. Sometimes, the most important thing is to be kind to yourself and keep going.
In the end, Moira is about hope—that even when things seem messy or confusing, there’s always a way to find peace within. It’s about learning to accept your flaws and trusting that, eventually, you’ll figure things out. And in that process, you might just find yourself.
This book is a gentle reminder that we’re all a little lost sometimes, but that doesn’t mean we’re not on the right path. Mihika’s story shows us that with patience and honesty, we can navigate our own labyrinths and come out stronger on the other side.
A book, few pages, one journey from girl to woman, mix bag of emotions, tears, freedom — Do these stir your heart? If yes then chose this book.I didn't choose this book but the book chose me! ' Moira ' – the title itself is unique and has own spark. By the title I was intrigued but didn't imagine reading this would make my heart heavy with emotions. After finishing reading I took time to process the whole book. The story revolves around a girl named Mihika Singh Thakur and her eventful life. Being a second child she faced hardships from childhood thought her parents loved her. But she was like a rebel kid from childhood. She wanted to break the stereotypes of our normal society and the journey took a lot from her. Let's dig deeper –
This story is not about just Mihika, it's about many of us. The story will shake the emotions, make you question. I have to give credit to the author for portraying a woman's life, struggle, complexity, turmoils, breakdowns, relationship issues, longing, desire through Mihika's life. The description of struggles of womanhood specially for a independent woman is truly amazing. It's raw, real and practical. The shades of have witnessed in the men of this book is really so true. From Aarav to Sahaj to Danish – each man has it's own shade, personality and way of expressing emotions. The portrayal of emotions, breakdowns of Mihika made me feel heavy. It's clearly shown how a woman heart bleeds through different phases and what she truly wishes. I felt sad about Sahaj's feelings. It's so complicated that I can't decide whether to blame him or praise. You should read the book to know why am telling this. The role of Aarav is also good. Danish's silent way of expressing his feelings and the maturity are on different level. I have to mention two special characters - Tasha, Mihika's daughter and Kasika. Without these two the story won't be completed. Such a beautiful character Kasika is.
I can write more and more about this book but won't spoil the story. It's important for others to read it by own to extract the essence of this book specially women should. Moira is indeed a perfect title.
To be honest, I can’t decipher how I feel about the book. The plot? It’s incredible, I loved how the author showed different phases of Mihika’s life, from her childhood to her daughter’s childhood. The book covers different parts of her life, different types of loves she comes across, the love she held onto and the kind of love she couldn’t keep, regardless of how much she tried. Tasha, the sweetheart she is, I just loved how a five year old was shown to be so sensible. I mean, she could be somewhat childish too, but in accordance to the story, her maturity was another plus.
However, I just felt like I couldn’t connect well with the characters. It was more of a philosophical read than an emotional one. At every point, there was a life philosophy of some kind, making me miss the emotions and drag me to think about it from a different perspective. Also, there might be some loops in the story, like in one chapter, her family and grandfather dearly loved her, then in just the next chapter, her brother became the top priority for her family, making her somewhat invisible in the family, then suddenly years down the lane, she becomes the spoil brat of the family. I think a better contrast in these scenes would have been better, a better picture of the improved relations would make it more sensible (to me, you can decide for yourself after reading it 😌)
Mihika Singh is not just a character; she’s a reflection of every woman who has faced love, loss, challenges, and growth. Sensitive yet strong, emotional yet intelligent, Mihika’s journey takes readers through the many phases of a woman’s life—from childhood to adulthood, from first crushes to mature love, from personal struggles to professional hurdles.
This book is more than just a story, it’s a well-researched exploration of a woman’s experiences. It touches on important themes like sexual harassment, women’s empowerment, and the complexities of adult life, all woven seamlessly into Mihika’s journey. The way these topics are introduced feels natural and relatable, never overwhelming
The writing stands out for its "realism and depth". The characters feel authentic, the emotions are raw, and Mihika’s growth throughout the book is inspiring. Her journey isn’t just about challenges but also about self-discovery and learning from past mistakes.
The ending leaves just enough space for readers to interpret things in their own way, making the story feel even more personal. It’s a book that stays with you, not just as a story, but as an experience. A must-read for anyone who enjoys powerful, realistic storytelling✨✨✨
Mihika Singh's story is really an exploration of love, ambition, and self-discovery. She is still learning to address the flaws within herself as she negotiates career and love. It is powerfully revealed through the masterful expression of Moira about dilemmas, passions, and mental struggles. The first work of Deepak Aggarwal, which deals with complex subjects with elegance and tenderness.
The book clearly paints pictures of intimacy, love, and self-rediscovery. Mihika, redundant and redundant again, grows and becomes better as life goes onward. I was very much able to identify with what she was going through, and I could see her develop and root for her.
The writing style by the author is gripping, and the character development is something incredible. I liked that it didn't shy away from delving into meaty issues, considering that it is a relatable and authentic read.
This book should be read by anyone who has any trouble with maladaptive stories character driven and human life. I highly recommend this read for anybody who's fond of self-exploratory, love, or identity growth stories
Calm and beautiful story of Mihika, our protagonist, who is kind but not fragile. She has her own strengths and flaws, which she doesn't deny about. It's a must-read for every woman out there, at least for once.
The story revolves around Mihika, It felt like I'm peeking in someone's life, gradually watching them rise and fall but not ever give up. I like how her character shows growth and depth, how beautifully she's written and presented. She's so warm and realistic that you'll feel a connection with her emotions, ups, and downs in her life.
The author has really beautifully written the plot, presenting almost each aspect of our protagonist life with depth and realistic changes. Some people might not like the way it's written, but I personally enjoyed my time reading this because it has that calm, cozy vibe, and I would love to read more of the author’s creations.
Overall, It's a must-read for everyone whoever likes to really enjoy their time reading a calm, kind but strong character with such a beautiful plot.
I recently finished reading Moira by Deepak Agarwal , and I am left speechless by the depth and complexity of its plot . The story revolves around Mihika Singh , the protagonist, a sensitive and emotional young woman who faces numerous challenges in her personal life . Despite her struggles , Mihika is portrayed as a highly intelligent and talented individual. Throughout the book , she grapples with her mistake and learns valuable life lessons .
The narrative explores various aspects of intimacy and love , with Mihika continuously rediscovering herself with each experience. The book follows her journey of growth and self - realization as she matures over time.
However, one aspect of the story that I did not particularly enjoy was Mihika's decision to lie to Sahaj. I found myself feeling empathetic towards him, as his character seemed to be caught in an unfortunate situation .
The book is highly engaging , making it difficult to put down until the very end . The writing style Is clear and straightforward, Which enhances the overall reading experience. My favourite character in the book was Aarav, whose journey stood out as particularly impactful .
If you are interested in exploring themes of infidelity and the complexities of intimacy, Moira may be a book worth considering . It delves into these sensitive topics, with a focus on the protagonist's emotional journey and self - discovery.
