When Helsing XII, latest in the long line of badass vampire hunters, dies, no-one would have expected his magical Ring of Power to be handed down to an idiot - least of all said idiot, Brian Trelawney, the most hapless car salesman in the whole county of Cornwall!Lanky, awkward, and without a courageous bone in his body, Brian must take up the mantle of heroic doer of derring and face-off against the dread creatures of the night that, for some reason, seem to plague this far-flung, sleepy corner of the British Isles. This collection contains the first three novels in the Brian Helsing One - Just Try Not to Die.Mission Two - Surf's Up.Mission Three - Howlin' Mad.
Lots of action and adventure, plus a very likable hero. I previously read all 3 books in this box set and rated each book 5 stars. I have read about half of the series, and purchased all the remains books written to date. I will read them all, in time. This box set is a great deal if you are new to Brian Helsing. Brian starts the series as a normal, geeky, not very confident man. By being in the wrong place at the wrong time, he reluctantly steps up to help a man being attacked. As a result, lanky, geeky Brian is chosen to become the next Vampire Hunter. It was fun to read about Brian learning to fight (and being constantly beat up) and learning to wield his new super powers. Brian facing monsters (not just vampires) and being terrified but determined. Brian slowly gaining confidence. It was FUN to watch Brian evolve, be innovative, be compassionate, and be able to see good from evil. The books are written in a fun, humorous manner. Now I want to get back to the series. A few other books first, then back to the Vampire Hunter.
This set is the first three Brian Helsing stories. The Unlikeliest Vampire Hunter, Surfs Up, and Howlin' Mad. The first story is about when he becomes the next Helsing (actually he is number 13). He is present when Helsing the 12th is killed, and the ring is placed on his finger. After that he finds he cannot remove the ring. The second story is about him battling Nymphs, and the third about werewolves. A great series of books.
Took a while to get into the first book but kept with it and really enjoyed books one through three. Exciting, fast moving, the characters and story develop really well. I can't wait to start the next books. Highly recommend!
