Mike Soyinka, Goldsboro's Sheriff, has crushed on Sojo since he was 12 years old, but as his best friend's older sister, she's always been off-limits. But when she needs his help to fulfill her grandmother's final request, he jumps at the chance to satisfy her every...need.
As Sojo and Mike work together to discover the truth about Goldsboro, they soon realize that sometimes childhood crushes lead to adulthood touches, even when it's not part of the plan.
L. L. Farmer, a native Floridian, attended the University of Florida where she earned a Bachelor's degree in English. After teaching in her hometown of Orlando for nine years, she relocated to New York City where she taught and lived for nearly a decade. In 2014, while raising a small child and teaching high school, she earned a Master's degree in Creative Writing. The next two years were spent on researching and writing two novels. The second of the novels is the recently published Slave Ship Rising (2017). She is currently preparing to publish the first book in her butt-kicking heroine series.
The way L.L. Farmer weaves history and supernatural together in her stories is wonderful. She gives you just enough information to pique your interest and make you want to learn more. Check her out!
I must say that Sojourner’s extreme stubbornness wore me down. I was like, enough already.Mike was sweet. He know he was crazy about him some Sojourner. I like the mystery surrounding the book and was very much entertained.
This author always have great stories. The way she writes with such depth is incredible. The book was not that long but felt longer (in a good way) because of her writing. She gets to the point without all the unnecessary extra fluff to make the book longer.....Now about the book. How can you make someone believe in the supernatural that only believe in what they can touch and prove? I can't to read how they will convince Freddy and High. Do Freddy and Quinn have a love connection like Mike and Sojo? It seems like they are working in pairs to find the crystals so who will be working High, Zora? And who is the darkness? So I many questions which I hope some will be answered in book 2.
Love it! Love it! The writer weaves a story that is not only stepped in truth but in the belief that there's something other than what you can see and feel. This was not only good, but you can literally see and hear as if this story is being told. I love the relationships that are blossoming and old ones that are being fixed. The transition between the old world and the new is done so smoothly that you can't really tell and you know it has to happen ,so you wait. This was and is stellar writing and storytelling, from a mind that can appreciate the reader. So looking g forward to the next installment.
First, Sojo’s nickname is annoying!! Like seriously, and so is she. Secondly, this is an amazing story with a powerful message and I seriously need everyone to read this. Outside of it being a wonderful romance story it’s just a great concept. I’m so very glad I don’t have to wait for the next book.
I enjoyed this book immensely. LL Farmer this was s great read for me. The history of Goldsboro and the richness of who we are as a people as seen in Victoria , highlights our power, strength and tenacity. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
A pleasant surprise. I was not expecting this book to be this good. It's mystery, fantasy, and romance all wrapped up in Blackness. And it's Awesome!!! I can't wait to dive into the part of the series.
This book tugged at my heart! It’s not just about the magic and history that America try’s to hide. It’s about the tenacity of going forth and doing what needs to be done to keep our heritage alive. The romance, family drama, and small town nosiness just adds to the genuineness of this book. This author does a a great job with detail that can be scary and hilarious at the same time. This new series and author has become one of my favs and this is only the first book.
The protagonist was WAY too stubborn for me and caused me to nearly trash the whole series and not even continue.
BUT.
The story and the hotness were 10/10! the amazing way the author weaves in African/African American history and magic/horror is magnificent. She stepped up her erotic scene game too, but not to the point of being overly explicit, and she does this perfectly. Definitely an enjoyable read.
Wow!!!!!This is my first read by this Author and when I say that I can't get enough of this story...It has history, suspense, magic, and love all spun and woven into it which makes for an exciting read.I have literally went on a search to purchase the book form to go in my personal library.I have to say bye...because I am going to burn the midnight oil on book 2.
I normally don’t like sci-fi but this is an interesting book because of a lot of history. I started reading and almost stopped but the pages kept me intrigued. The characters are well written and I think I will read part 2.🤔
I can't say that I built a bond with the lead character Sojo. She was a little on the selfish side but she grew on me. The plot of this book was original and held my attention. I'm looking to part 2.
This story of love, drama, suspense, mystery and adventure was refreshing. The historical aspect on the rich, deep rooted love of people was so moving. And of course the sizzling sex scenes… yessssss!!!
This is inspirational and motivation to bring this into existence. I would have never dreamed of a story like this because Its unseen and unheard of. Beauty from Ashes
This first book kept me reading and waiting for the next, and the next, and the next! The mixture of past and present is nicely balanced. I’m ready for book 2!
Wonderful writing grabs the reader from the first page. I loved the close relationship between the siblings, looking out for one another. Though not a usual romance reader, this fantasy-based story is a great read. Well done.
I enjoyed the names and nicknames of the characters. Sojo was a bit stubborn and got on my nerves at times. The story keeps your attention. Will be getting the next book to see what happens.
