Everything seems perfect for Daniel Hart, set to graduate with his PhD and in love with the attentive but mysterious Rhys Daveth, a doppelganger and wanted criminal. Daniel's happiness is shattered when he has to make a painful choice between the man he loves and the vocation he's meant for.
Even worse, a jealous figure from Rhys' past is determined to remove Daniel from the picture, which for him means taking on Daniel's shape and killing the original. If Rhys can't find him in time, Daniel will die, but after their last meeting Daniel doesn't even know if Rhys is interested in finding him any more.
Cari Z. is a Colorado girl who loves snow and sunshine. She has a wonderful relationship with her husband, a complex relationship with the characters in her head and a sadomasochistic relationship with her exercise routine. She feels like Halloween should happen every month, which is why you get this picture of her, and hopes that you enjoy reading what she's put out there as much as she enjoyed writing it in the first place.
A satisfying win to this unique paranormal trilogy!
Realistically, how does a historian whose love for artifacts (that should be freely shared with the world) forge a lasting relationship based on mutual respect, love, and trust with someone who steals the very things that should remain in a museum? Well, that’s the central conflict here as Daniel struggles with his own morals, never wanting to change Rhys but can’t seem to continue to look the other way.
Despite the inevitable relationship issues, Daniel and Rhys face an even more worrisome problem like a jealous ex lover hell bent on destroying both of them.
Beware torture mixed with fraught suspense as there’s a race against time to save Daniel from imminent death. A fitting conclusion where love prevails despite the odds.
Altho it's rather inauspicious that the only rating for this in two weeks is from the author. Boo to authors rating their own books - talk about artificial inflation.
Lots of high energetic action , suspense and scorching hot action between the sheet! Definitely a HFN... Most likely a HEA. The author wrapped thing up beautifully!
Personally, book #3 is my favorite among the three novellas. I still categorize this as romantic suspense (with paranormal touch).
If in book #2, Shadowed, Reese is the one being kidnapped, this time Daniel is the one whose life is being dangerously threatened by the same villain. It comes into a psychotically insane territory and what Daniel must experiences when he is kidnapped is much worse than Reese's ().
I am also happy that this story touches the issue that I mentioned in book #2, regarding Reese's job as art thief. Sure, it feels nicely tied up with a bow, but I find it satisfying ().
My niggle though, since this story is written solely from Daniel's perspective (with first person POV), I miss the action coming from Reese and his friends when they rescue Daniel ...
Really good ending to this trilogy. I liked the way the story took an unexpected turn and the ending was one of suspense building up to a satisfying resolution. Rhys and Danny are a fab couple and together with the shadowy organisations and other shape shifters and magic would make an excellent novel. Hint hint. I do like it when I come to the end of a really great book. It is a bit like eating a good meal and I could certainly go for a second helping of Rhys and Danny.
They are interesting but not compelling, I like the world and the characters, but it's taking a long time to read not very long books. The drama came out of nowhere. But it was nice to see them together in the end.
Some series are loosely connected—the order doesn’t matter and the entire backstory isn’t required to understand the current plot and world. Others must be read in strict order to get the entire picture. Starting here at Book 3 was probably not my best choice, and had I realized at the time I chose the book that it was a series, and tightly connected at that, I’d have read first things first.
There’s enough backstory here to understand what went before, although the presentation comes in big chunks. This affects the perception of the world building—not all of it happened here and a lot of it was presented more organically in books one and two. Here it comes in lumps, along with the mentions of events in the first two books.
Rhys can change his shape, taking on the form of someone he’s “absorbed.” Recognizing him means finding subtle clues—Daniel can pick him out, even if he’s “wearing the shell” of a woman. There’s a magical/scientific explanation for why Rhys and a handful of others can do this, but suffice to say, the government would like to control all individuals with the ability—they’d make formidable agents.
Daniel, on the verge of acquiring his degree, is also acquiring a conscience—he loves Rhys but is growing increasingly uncomfortable with him being on the shady side of the law. Daniel studies and curates magical artifacts—Rhys heists them from museums. Daniel respects Rhys enough to not ask him to change, but their relationship can’t continue as is.
The two of them make great reading, and the peril Daniel endures is very possibly terminal—the story itself is very engaging, and the ideas behind the world are interesting. A “doppelganger” could get into a lot of mischief, and does. The HEA does happen--a matter for rejoicing and some giggles at a third character's reaction.
Unfortunately, where this story falls apart is the great wall of text. The author chose to work without chapter breaks, which adds to the heavy feeling created with large dense paragraphs and infrequent dialog. About a quarter of the story is information repeated from the first two installments of this series, which is necessary to understand what’s going on now.
Breaking this story into three parts didn’t do the characters and the fascinating ideas of magic and outlawry any favors—characters who played parts earlier pop up out of nowhere in the middle here, and the plot bogs down in the information repeated from earlier sections. I was left wishing I had read one longer but more streamlined work.
The first book in this series was the first thing I had ever read from this author and it's still one of my favorites. I loved getting to read more about Daniel and Rhys and really loved this one. I'm assuming this is the final book? But I can only hope we'll see them again.
Daniel Hart is graduating with his PhD and has to take a hard look at the future he had always wanted and worked for as a museum curator as compared to his deep love for the thief, Rhys Daveth, a doppelganger and wanted criminal he can’t seem to give up. He knows that Rhys will no doubt continue to steal from museums as he has always done. But Daniel feels he is responsible for the treasures entrusted to his care. It’s a difficult, if not impossible, decision. There is never a dull moment when these two are together, and the feelings that keep them loving each other can be easily felt by the reader. These two are amazing.
But because danger always seems to follow them, there is a jealous and vicious man from Rhys' past, Simeon. He intends to get rid of Daniel, intending to take Daniel's shape and kill the “original”. Rhys is desperately looking for Daniel as they use their magic to reach out for each other. Because if Rhys can't find him soon, Daniel won’t come out of this alive.
I really love this series. It is always so suspenseful and these characters are so unique. Their connection makes no sense, yet it’s a powerful bond that leaves the reader in awe. Grab your copy, especially because bad things are happening to Daniel in Simeon’s grasp and it’s difficult to see what he is going through. Can Rhys find him in time?
This book is like riding a roller coaster with the twists and turns and fast-paced action. I love Daniel and Rhys. They are so different, yet share an undeniable chemistry. Daniel is facing a cross-roads, as his chosen career clashes with his lover's - er - livelihood. Then a new complication arises as someone from Rhys' past sets his sights on killing and replacing Daniel (with himself). If Rhys doesn't find Daniel in time, Daniel won't survive. The story has wonderful complexity, tension, and suspense. Will Rhys find Daniel in time? If he does, how will Daniel reconcile his chosen profession with his love for Rhys (an art thief)? This is another great story and the culmination of Daniel and Rhys' story. The three books should be read in order for full enjoyment.

Note: this is not a standalone, so make sure you’ve read the earlier installments in Daniel and Rhys’s adventure. Everything I loved about the previous books is here too: the super interesting world building (I love how the insights we get into magic and how it works, or doesn’t deepen over the course of the overall arc), the bizarre yet potent chemistry that links the two protagonists, and the fast-paced plotting that keeps them constantly on their toes. It’s interesting to see so many things come to a head here: the conflict between their two careers (curator & thief aren’t without inherent tension) and baggage from Rhys’s past. There’s never a dull moment, and I enjoyed the ride.

Daniel is in a quandry as he completes his education and wants both the man he loves, Rhys, and the profession he has been preparing for working in museums as a curator. Rhys is a thief who steals from museums and Daniel is a keeper and protector of the treasures he wants to steal. Is it possible for him to have both of the things that are most meaningful to him? And what about the ever presence of danger that seems to follow them around, this time in the form a jealous and unscrupulous man from Rhys past? This couple is constantly being tested during this series and somehow making it through. Has their luck finally run out? Another good story in this series.

There is definitely more excitement and danger in this third book in this great mm series by Cari Z especially for Daniel who gets kidnapped. Although he is kidnapped the book contains more the psychological effects on Daniel and Rhys than action as both of them strain to use the mind bond that they have to figure out where Daniel is so that he can be rescued. I felt more tense while reading it than I have been while reading books with a lot more scary action. This is a terrific addition to this interesting series. Can’t wait to read the next book.

You need to read the previous two books in this series before reading this one.
This is the next step in Danny and Rhys's story. Danny has to face his future career as a museum curator and his emotions for a thief who steals from those museums. Add in danger from Rhys's past and these two are in for another adventure. I don't want to spoil the story, but it was certainly packed with emotion and I liked the ending a lot.
Although this is the basically the end of Danny and Rhys's story arc, there is more to the series so I'm hoping we'll get to see the heroes again.

Unfortunately this opens the door for a jealous guy from Rhys' past to come in and almost kill Daniel. Rhys using their connection arranges in time for help to arrive. Not wanting to lose Daniel, Rhys redefines himself and arranges thing so Daniel is with him. Their love for each other only grows stronger.
Please read books one and two as this is a continuous series.
Daniel is now embarking on the next phase in his life, a museum curator. As he and Rhys continue to build their relationship, there are demons from Rhys's past that are intent on causing harm to Daniel.
A third installment in this series of intrigue and adventure, following the same couple.

Technically the 4th book in the series if we are counting the prequel, this should be read in series. Action-packed and chemistry-laden, this book takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. At times I was frustrated with the writer because of the tension/suspense the story forced upon the reader, but overall I enjoyed the ride. Can’t wait for more from this author!

Reclaimed is the final book in the series and has to be read in order. The series follows Danny and Rhys’ saga. The book is full of adventure, twists and turns, and some romance. It was a good read with an interesting story.

Daniel and Rhys’s story wraps up in a one heck of a story.
I couldn’t stop turning the pages as everything unfolded. My heart was in my throat a few times.
I am so happy that these people managed to fix their problems and how their arc ended. The magic and mysticism in this world is fascinating and I can’t wait to read more.
● The ~magical aspect where some people have powers in this world.
● Legitimately I shed a tear in the last book (I might’ve just been really tired by then though) when Daniel was slipping away due to blood loss and Rhys was still with him, at the back of his mind, feeling all of it. If I’d been Rhys, I would’ve gone nuts.
● I liked Daniel’s mom a lot, regardless of how brief her role had been.
Sure, this series can be popcorn, but it’s still nice to have quality popcorn. I can count on Cari Z to have an interesting idea and to write it well, and write entertainingly. Thank you, Cari Z.

This is part of a series, but the first one I have read. I could see where reading the others might have been helpful, but I didn't feel like I had to read them. Nor did I ever feel that I didn't understand what was going on in the story. For a quickie read, I thought the world building was good and the story clever. It was sweet with just enough uniqueness to keep it interesting.
