This is Love

Rate this book
All of us are looking for love. We carry enough pain, frustration, and doubt in us to crush us. And only the comforting embrace of love can save us. We look around and see a world embroiled in so much greed, racism, inequality, and cynicism. We have become more suspicious of each other, more intolerant, and crueler. We need change. Many sing the praises of love and tout it as the answer. But they do not tell us what love is, what to love, and how to love it? Each imagines it and lives it differently. Which one is right? Which path should we follow?

No one understands love better than the One who created it. He knows how much we need it and how it can be nurtured. He sent His Books and Prophets to teach us what love is so we can love Him and each other. And He warned us against distorted and toxic love. Islam is the handbook of love. It is the best, fastest, and most comprehensive way to it.

This book presents the Islamic message of love through forty hadiths on loving Allah, His Prophet, and His creation. It explains the indispensability of divine love in human existence, the centrality of love in Islam, and the means to attain and spread love on earth. It also clarifies common misunderstandings about love in Islam, affirming that Islam is the religion of love par excellence.

“…what is divine love? How do we know what loving Allah is, and what is appropriate and inappropriate in that love? Do we love Allah like a father, a friend, or a spouse? These obiections conceive of love in human terms, as romantic attachments, and require Allah's love to conform to these molds…
Allah's love is in a league of its own. And the mention of Hell and punishment in the Qur’an only highlights how precious this love is, where some could have had it but lost it because of their disobedience. Loving Allah is not carte blanche to act as we wish or to imagine Allah as we want to. Such conceptions of the divine only feed our ego. When we conceive of Allah as approving of whoever we are and whatever we do, we change Him to fit our needs instead of changing ourselves to earn His pleasure. The love of Allah is there to elevate and edify us, not to demote the divine to the human plane. If we want to love Allah on our terms, we would be loving ourselves, creating a fantasy that does not exist. But if we are going to love Allah on His terms, we should be willing to listen to Him to understand who He is, who we are, and how to love Him.”

i think this passage perfectly summarises why this should be the book u would want to pick up if u want to know more about divine love and its attributes (instead of another very infamous book on the subject (u already know which one)). the author has beautifully laid out the concept of divine love throughout the book, backing it with authentic sources from the Qur’an, sunnah and scholars of the past.

may Allah swt reward the author abundantly, i genuinely feel like he deserve so much more recognition and love for his books, they are both so amazing <3

This is love.

I have so much to say about this beautiful book. After the previous book by Dr Ali, The heart therapy, this is definitely another gem.

It goes without saying that love is complicated. Love exists as part of the complex array of humans emotions, all connected and interdependent. However, if you were asked to define what is love, it's not easy to do so. Ibn Hajar in Fath Al-Bari agreed that the definition for love is elusive and that it is something felt and not fully articulated.

Love is very powerful, and love can run to the opposite ends of the spectrum: too much of it or too little. If we fall too deeply in love with the wrong person or things, it can destroy us to the core. That's why we need to guide this emotion properly, and only Allah's guidance can help us. Through this book, we learn the tools to channel our emotions towards the pleasure of Allah. And we will be able to explore the reasons why Allah deserves our utmost love.

I love this book so much.

My first book ever by Dr. Ali and i love it so much !! this book has changed my perspectives about love, its definition, to who you should lies your love.

love is great, love is pure, love is ethereal. but once you gave all of your lifetime to a wrong person, it technically will change how love supposed to look a like. you will look down at love and perhaps quite hard to believe it. therefore mankind, give your love to Allah only.
