The blockbuster co-writing debut of Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman, All of Us Villains begins a dark tale of ambition and magick... Download a FREE sneak peek today!

You Fell in Love with the Victors of the Hunger Games.
Now Prepare to Meet the Villains of the Blood Veil.

The Blood Moon rises. The Blood Veil falls. The Tournament begins.

Every generation, at the coming of the Blood Moon, seven families in the remote city of Ilvernath each name a champion to compete in a tournament to the death.

The prize? Exclusive control over a secret wellspring of high magick, the most powerful resource in the world—one thought long depleted.

This year, thanks to a salacious tell-all book, the seven champions are thrust into the worldwide spotlight, granting each of them new information, new means to win, and most importantly, a choice: accept their fate or rewrite their story.

But this is a story that must be penned in blood.

Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman have joined forces and co written the upcoming YA fantasy novel, All of Us Villains.

I try always try to post my reviews within a few days of the book's publication date. All of Us Villains was next up on my Netgalley shelf, so I got started reading a few days ago. I got to page 86 and the galley ended. It was only then that I remembered it was a sampler copy!

So, from what I did read, it's pretty good. In some time and place, Common Magick is used by the masses. High Magick is thought to have disappeared to have disappeared.....but it hasn't. Seven families in the town of Ilvernath know, use and protect the High Magick. Control of it is determined by pitting a young 'champion' from each family against each other in a Magick tournament.

I know what you're thinking - because I thought that too - The Hunger Games right? Very similar, but with magick instead of food. Indeed, the publisher uses that comparison in their marketing. "You Fell in Love with the Victors of the Hunger Games. Now Prepare to Meet the Villains of the Blood Veil."

Foody and Herman have created a large cast of characters - the seven champions, their families and those who back the tournaments - the spellcasters and makers and someone from the government this time round. The masses are also aware now that High Magick is indeed still alive....

You'll easily find the champion you want to back, decide quickly which family are devious and manipulating, and wonder - what Foody and Herman have in store for the tournament...

And that's where it ended! So, yes my curiosity is whetted! What I've read so far is well written

**Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan-Tom Doherty Associates for making this sampler available for review purposes. This in no way changed my opinion**

I have read the first Ace of Shades book by Amanda Foody and really enjoyed it. So when I saw she had another series coming out and it was described as Hunger Games but with magic, I was sold. I wanted to read it immediately. The extended sampler is both great and also unfair, as it's so long that it gets you deep into each POV character's motives and desires and then leaves you wanting more. The sampler is 86 pages long (!!) which is about 1/4 of the finished book's page count. It introduces us to Alistair Lowe (the favorite to win), Isobel Macaslan (the media darling), Gavin Grieve (the assumed first to die), and Briony Thorburn (the goodie-two shoes). Each of these characters had a strong voice and clear motivation to be their families champion (whether they want to or not is another story). I really enjoyed getting to know them all.

Knowing how long the extended sampler is, I'm excited to read the finished product and also scared to see how this plays out because I'm sure it will end on a major cliffhanger that will leave me wanting even more of these characters. November can't come soon enough!

3.5/5 stars

I enjoyed the start to this dark, magical YA story with even darker players. The story centers around a magical competition to the death between champions of the seven most powerful magical families in Ilvernath all competing for control of the town's magic. The point of view shifts a few times between champions and villains, however I found it hard to like most of the characters. I think I'll have to read a bit more to see if I care if any survive the competition or give the audiobook a try. Overall, a good start to this story with an interesting, dark concept.

I was lucky enough to get a sample of this book from NetGalley and Macmillan-Tom Doherty Associates.

I've just finished reading a sneak peek of All Of Us Villains, and my first thought is that I have to read the rest of the book. It’s also my second thought, my third, and well, you get the idea.

I’m not craving the rest of the book because authors Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman finished the sample with a cliffhanger. I know what will be happening next. I just have to come to terms with what just happened.

All Of Us Villains offers a cross between Harry Potter and Hunger Games, introducing seven magickal families who hold a tournament each Blood Moon to determine who will control high magick for the next 20 years. Each family picks a young member of their family to compete. The goal is to be the last champion standing. If more than one is still alive once the Blood Moon leaves, then the winner is the person who has spilled the most of their opponents’ blood. Kill or be killed.

We meet the families and their champions. Each has their own personal strengths and morbid strategies for grooming their champion. There’s no cookie-cutter champion, but individuals with family pride and different plans for bringing power to their family. Each chapter focuses on a different family/champion and paints a vivid picture of how these children have been trained to murder the other six. Dirty secrets are exposed to show just how much each family will sacrifice to win. Those sacrifices are deep and ruthless.

The sneak peek shows the preparations have been completed for the tournament. Yes, one reason I want to read the rest is so that I can read about the tournament events and find out the ultimate winner. The authors introduced their characters so deftly that there’s not one sticking out as a readers’ favorite. I don’t know which one I want to win because of how well these characters have been fleshed out. Each chapter unlocked a reason to support a different champion, which is delightfully unnerving. I’m eager to see who wins and how all of the families handle the aftermath.

Fans of magick and deadly competitions will breeze through the book.

I received this and as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Tor Teen for giving me access.

More of a 3.5 stars rounded up (for sampler review only)

The thought of a Hunger Games style story was very intriguing. Families that fight to the death for power. Sounds like something that I would be 100% invested in. Unfortunately, I was left a little disappointed. I could seem to connect or find interest in the story until the very end of the sampler when the real story starts. Once All of Us Villains is published, I will happily give it another go in hopes that the full story is better than the opening.

I finished this faster than I thought I would!

I will be completely okay when Isobel dies in the next book. Not if, but when. She was such an unlikeable character.

Everyone else carried me through. Though I almost stopped reading it early on at one point because I was so angry. I won’t say at what, but if you read it you’ll know.

The last few chapters is when things really started rolling and I am excited to read the next one.

I adore this! It's absolutely terrible that this book doesn't come out until November because I desperately need to read the rest right now. It hooked me from the first chapter. I can't wait!

I listened to this book as an audiobook.
This book has a good title for the story. A magical tournament, similar to the Hunger Games since there can only be one victor. Up for grabs is the power of high magic which is only left in this one town and nowhere else in the world. Some interesting backstabbing and previous interactions that come back for the worse later on.

There's an interesting cast of characters here, and an interesting premise. Neither feel particularly novel, but both were still engaging and seem as though they premise a fun, easy read...

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my obligation-free review copy.

Definitely need to read the conclusion in the second book. A little miffed at the love birds but it also seemed like a fitting outcome. Wonder what twists and turns are next!
