AZAD : THE INVINCIBLE is a BIOGRAPHICAL NOVEL (based on letters, autobiographies written by the revolutionaries of their times like Ram Prasad Bismil). Besides, there are other sources -- articles and news published in those times etc.

The form is anecdotal -- that is told in the form of a story.

Chandrasekhar Azad was the brightest among luminaries who fought for India’s independence. Born in a small no-name village to poverty-stricken parents, Azad ran away from home when he was very young boy and became a coolie in Mumbai, living on the streets. He then went to Varanasi to learn Sanskrit, participated in the non-cooperation movement and suffered flogging as a punishment. He then became a revolutionary and commanded a revolutionary movement in North India for the next decade. He would become the bosom friend of many families, inspiring thousands more, leading and guiding a band of revolutionaries like a brother. He struck terror in the hearts of his enemies but was a darling of his leaders and elders. A relatively uneducated man, he spread the message of patriotism everywhere he went. One day, he created history when he fought an unprecedented battle that had no parallel, and he left this earth one day in Allahabad’s Alfred Park.

Azad was that tall leader who worked from underground to stitch together the remnants of a fractured revolutionary movement that had broken up after Ramprasad Bismil and other notables were imprisoned after the Kakori raid. Bismil was eventually given the death penalty. Azad was chosen to be the commander of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) by his peer revolutionaries. He achieved some amazing feats of valour in the short time he was on this earth. Azad was responsible for the political assassination of Saunders as retribution for killing Lala Lajpat Rai. He was also responsible for orchestrating the bombing in the legislative assembly to protest the introduction of two highly oppressive and unpopular bills designed to increase the dictatorial powers of the British in India. But much more than that, Azad inspired and organized many young people, inducted them into his revolutionary organization, and built a fighting force that stood up to British rule. He shepherded his organization through a period of ideological crisis that threatened to destroy it. Azad valiantly battled to hold it together, sometimes by discipline and at other times by diplomacy and negotiation. Then he fought a thrilling historic gun battle with the British and gave up his life at an incredibly young age of twenty-four.

He was not a philosopher, but few understood the philosophic necessity of a revolutionary path in liberating the country better than him.

He was not a propagandist. He could not hold a candle to Gandhiji’s magical powers of persuasion. Yet he managed to attract his own sizeable following of bright, idealistic young men.

He was perhaps not the greatest organiser, but the way he stitched together an organization and ran it was in no way inferior to the achievement of a Mazzini or a Garibaldi.

Chandrashekhar Tiwari 'Azad' requires no introduction. He was an important contribution to Indian history. Azad was not just a man of action but also a man of ideals (and deserves to be remembered that way). He was a great charismatic leader as well as a great revolutionary who believed that no man should be treated badly, everyone should have equal rights and everyone should be treated well, because of such great thoughts he is still a motivational figure. The book tells you how the greatest revolutionary of our country has been presented to us in a very narrow-way all these years! Azad was not a revolutionary only, He was a revolution himself.

This is one of the best books I have read after a long time. It’s a herculean task to write a historical biography. The writer should possess the qualities of a novelist and a biographer too. The biographer mainly has the mind that of a researcher. The number of references the writer has provided, concisely documented in form of a simple novel is something which every researcher should learn. Thanks to the author for mentioning all references and sources, which helped me to look for some more history books.

The life of Chandrasekhar Azad is commonly misunderstood in view of his mustache twirling photograph, which willy-nilly projects him as a merciless killer rather than an idealist revolutionary. The book unfolds the humane, farsighted, mature, sagacious dimension of his core personality. You can actually visualize the scene while reading this book. It’s a soul-touching story of the courageous Azad. It’s a journey to read this book. A personal journey where you experience and grow with the story, see from the perspective of one of the great leaders, planner and empathetic towards his members. Your outlook will never be the same after reading this book. Babu Krishnamurthy truly is one of the greatest writers of our generation. The writer of this book has written in such a way that you will feel that you are in that century and once you start reading it, you will not feel to keep it down without completing it. The author has done a commendable job of bringing to the readers viewpoint that even Azad was a human being of flesh and blood. He has covered the events through the eyes of Azad. Not a book can come closer where I lived, breathed and swayed by the protagonist's life. The most charming facet of the book is its sensitivity.

I admired the way this book also showed the various characters who were with Azad such as Bhagwati Charan Vohra, Durgawati Devi(wife of Vohra) Shivaram Hari Rajguru, Yashpal (Hindi writer), Bhagat Singh. They all used to work for Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) under the leadership of Azad. Azad took it upon himself to organize revolutionary movements groups under a single umbrella. He carried the baton forward from Ram Prasad Bismil. Revolutionary movements by secret organization used to be called as terrorism by the British Government. HSRA slowly began spreading tentacles across Kanpur, Agra, Delhi and Lahore and satellite branches in Calcutta, Banaras, Jhansi and other places. I loved the way how Durgawati Devi helped Bhagat Singh escaping in disguise after killing John Saunders. What a brave lady she was. This book also showed the back stories of Ramprasad Bismil, Surya Sen and Sachindra Nath Sanyal. Azad wanted to free Bhagat Singh and other fighters from jail, sadly that couldn’t happen. HSRA member Durgawati Devi even begged Gandhi to request the British to free Bhagat Singh and their friends but that didn’t happen. Azad met Master Surya Sen in a secret location. When Surya Sen spoke about his organization and discussed his plans at great length, Azad offered his encouragement and support. I find Yashpal behavior quite egotist, the way he was behaving was harming the organization. Just a few months back I read that Yashpal was a British stooge, now after reading this book I am able to connect the dots that why he was behaving in a certain manner.

Azad dedicated his life to the noble purpose of liberating his countrymen from British tyranny. He was a man of incredible character and determination. It is quite sad that he died at the tender age of 24 when he was only developing as a thinker and a leader. This book reveals the true character of Azad whom people don't recognize beyond guns and bullets. My heartfelt naman to him. As the book moves towards the end, you know what's coming - the death of Azad. There are no happy endings here, much as the reader may wish it. Despite the foreboding, the narrative kept me glued.

Babu Krishnamurthy is a Kannada writer who has written several very popular and critically acclaimed biographies of revolutionary heroes. Can you imagine he wrote books on Bagha Jatin, Srila Prabhupada, Ramunjacharya and Vasudev Balwant Phadke as well! All these books are only in Kannada. Hope they get translated. Thank you Manjula Tekal for translating this amazing book. Thank you for introducing Azad to us. I recently came to know that she will translate Bagha Jatin and Vasudev Balwant Phadke. All in all, do read this book. You guys are really missing something. This book will give you lots of goosebumps and tears.

ಸುಧೀರ್ಘ ಒಂದು ತಿಂಗಳು ಕಾಲ ನಾ ಓದಿದ ಒಂದು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಗಾತ್ರ ದೊಡ್ಡದು ಅಂತ ಇರಬಹುದೇನೋ ಆದ್ರೂ ಇಂತ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಓದುವಾಗ ಮನಸು ಕೊಂಚ ಭಾರ ಆಗೋದು ಸಹಜ ಆ ಭಾರದ ಮನಸಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಓದಿ ಮುಗಿಸಿದೆ. ದೇಶದ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಒಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಏನೆಲ್ಲಾ ತ್ಯಾಗ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು ತನ್ನ ತನು ಮನಗಳನ್ನು ಧಾರೆ ಎರೆಯ ಬಹುದೋ ಅದರ ಒಂದು limitations ಗಳೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ಮೀರಿದ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮಹಾನ್ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿಕಾರಿಯ ಕಥೆ.ಸಮರಸವೇ ಜೀವನ. ಸಾರ್ಥಕತೆ ಅಂತ ಜೀವನಕ್ಕೆ.ಅದರ ಅಭಾವದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಹೆಜ್ಜಗೂ ಒಡಕು, ತೊಡಕು. ಧ್ಯೇಯ ಜೀವಿಯ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತೂ ಇದರ ಬೆಲೆ ಅಪಾರ.ಇದರಿಂದ ಹುಟ್ಟುವ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಅಜೇಯ.
"ಮೈ ಅಜಾದ್ ಹೂಂ,ಅಜಾದ್ ಹೀ ರಹುಂಗಾ" ಎನ್ನುತ ತನ್ನ ಕಡೆಯ ಉಸಿರು ಇರುವವರೆಗೂ ಹೋರಾಡಿದ "ತಿವಾರಿ ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರ ಶರ್ಮನಿಗೆ" ಅಥವ " ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರ ಅಜಾದ್ ಗೆ ಜೈ"..


ಬಾಬು ಕೃಷ್ಣಮೂರ್ತಿ ಅವರ ಅಪಾರ ಶ್ರಮ ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಇಂತ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮಹಾನ್ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿಕಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಮೂಲಕ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲಬೇಕು. ತುಂಬು ಹೃದಯದ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳು!!

So this is a biographical novel on Chandrashekhar Azad, the embodiment of courage and patriotism, based on letters, articles, books by revolutionaries and many more proves. The book starts with a march in Kashi by freedom fighters, that got attacked by the police. A boy threw a stone to a police inspector and ran away. He got punishment of flogging. He got offered for getting rid of this punishment, but refused. He enlisted his name as Azad, forever free.
Then the story of the journey of this brave boy starts from a small village named Bhavra. Then his life takes him from Alirajpur to Bombay and then Kashi. After the Chaurichaura incident, he lost his trust from political parties like Congress or Swarajya party. So, he joined the revolutionary group HRA of Pandit Ramprasad Bismil, an organization inspired by Vivekananda and Ramakrishnadev.
Then his new life as a revolutionary starts. The descriptions of Kakori robbery, assassination of Saunders, bombing at legislative assembly are heart trembling. But, at the end, he became almost alone. The end of this book is very tragic and it makes tears roll down from our eyes. A man, who respected women, was very truthful, always protested against any injustice, always wanted full freedom for his beloved country, is depicted in this highly readable book. I think this book should be a must read for every patriotic Indian.

ಭಾರತಮಾತೆಯ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯ ಪುತ್ರ, ಭಾರತ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಹೋರಾಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿಕಾರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಧೀಮಂತ ನಾಯಕ ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರ್ ಆಜಾದ್ ಅವರ ಜೀವನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೆಣೆದಿರುವ ಪುಸ್ತಕ.
ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಬರೆಯಲು ಲೇಖಕರು ಪಟ್ಟಿರುವ ಶ್ರಮ ಅಪಾರ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆಂದೇ ಸುಮಾರು ೩೦ ಪುಟಗಳು ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೀಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಜನರನ್ನು ತಾವೇ ಖುದ್ದಾಗಿ ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಆಜಾದರ ಬಾಲ್ಯದಿಂದ ಕಥೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಜಾದರು ಚಿಕ್ಕವರಿದ್ದಾಗ ಮಾಡಿದ ತುಂಟಾಟ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳಿಂದಲೇ ತಿಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ ಅವರು ದೇಶಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದವರೆಂದು. ಚಿಕ್ಕವರಿದ್ದಾಗಲೇ ಮನೆಯನ್ನು ತೊರೆದು ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಹೋರಾಟಕ್ಕಿಳಿದು ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ಸಂಘವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಭಾರತವನ್ನು ಬ್ರೀಟಿಷರಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತಗೊಳಿಸಲು ಶ್ರಮಿಸಿದವರು. ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಓದುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದಂತೆ ಆಜಾದ್ ಸಂಧಿಸಿದ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ವೀರರನ್ನು ನಾವು ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಪುಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಮಗೆ ಕಾಣಲು ಸಿಗುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ.
ಒಂದು ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಂತಿ, ಅಹಿಂಸೆಯಿಂದ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ದಕ್ಕಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಜನರು ಗಾಂಧೀಜಿಯವರ ಜೊತೆ ನಿಂತಾಗ ಆಜಾದರು ಒಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ ನಿಂತು ಅನೇಕ ಯುವಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿಕಾರಿಯ ಕಿಚ್ಚನ್ನೆಬ್ಬಿಸಿದರು.
ಓದುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದಂತೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಗುವ ಹೋರಾಟಗಾರರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ನಮಗೆ ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯಾಗುವುದು ಖಂಡಿತ, ಕಾರಣ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ನಮಗೆ ತಿಳಿದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ನಿಖರವಾಗಿ ಅವರ ಹೆಸರುಗಳ ನಮೂಡನೆ ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ಲೇಖಕರ ಶ್ರಮ ಮೆಚ್ಚುವಂತಹದು.
ಆಜಾದರ ಶಿಸ್ತು, ಸಮಯ ಸಂಯಮ, ಚಾಲಾಕಿತನ, ಅವರ ಖಡಕ್ ಉತ್ತರ ಮತ್ತು ಆದೇಶಗಳು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ಅವರ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಬೇರೂರುವುದು.
ಭಗತ್ ಸಿಂಗ್, ರಾಜಗುರು, ಸುಖದೇವ್, ಭಗವತಿ ಚರಣ್, ರಾಮ್ ಪ್ರಸಾದ್ ಬಿಸ್ಮಿಲ್ ಹೀಗೆ ಅನೇಕ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿಕಾರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡಿದವರು. ಇವೆಲ್ಲ ಅವರು ಸಾಧಿಸಿದಾಗ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕೇವಲ ೨೩ ವರ್ಷಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ. ಭಗತ್ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಬಂಧನವಾದಾಗ ಅವರ ತಂದೆಗೆ ಆಜಾದ್ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು-ನೀವು ಭಾಗ್ಯವಂತರು, ನನ್ನದು ಕಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಎಂದು. ಅಂದರೆ ಅಷ್ಟು ದುಃಖವಾದರೂ ಅದನ್ನು ತೋರಿಗೊಡದೇ ಮತ್ತೆ ಮುಂದಿನ ಹೋರಾಟಕ್ಕೆ ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಲು ಮುಂದಾದರು.
ಬಾಂಬುಗಳ ಅವಶ್ಯಕತೆ ಬಿದ್ದಾಗ ಆಜಾದರು ಒಂದು ಕೋಣೆ ಬಾಡಿಗೆಗೆ ಹಿಡಿದು ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಬಾಂಬುಗಳನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು. ಆಜಾದರ ಸಂಘದ ನಿಯಮಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ತಾವು ಗಳಿಸಿದ ದುಡ್ಡು ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಎಲ್ಲೂ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಬಾರದು. ಇದನ್ನು ಕರಾರುವಾಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಅಕಸ್ಮಾತ್ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಿದ್ದಾಗ ಆಜಾದರು ಕೆಂಡಾಮಂಡಲವಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.
ಈ ನಡುವೆ ಸಂಘದವರಿಗೆ ಆಜಾದರ ಆದೇಶ ನೀಡುವಿಕೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಗದೆ ಅವರ ಇರುವಿಕೆಯ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ಪೊಲೀಸರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿ ಆಜಾದರ ಬೆನ್ನಿಗೆ ಚೂರಿ ಇರಿದರು. ಇದ್ದ ಕೊನೆಯ ಗುಂಡಿನಿಂದ ತಾವು ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವವನ್ನು ದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದಾಗ, ಅವರ ಮೃತ ದೇಹದ ಸಮೀಪ ಬರಲು ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಅಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಹೆದರಿದ್ದರಂತೆ. ಅದು ಆಜಾದರ ತಾಕತ್ತು. ಇಂತಹ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿಕಾರಿ ಹೋರಾಟಗಾರರನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ನಾವೇ ಧನ್ಯರು.
ಯಾರ ಹೃದಯ ಭಾರತ ದೇಶಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಮಿಡಿಯುತ್ತದೆಯೋ ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಒದಲೇಬೇಕು.

Chandrashekhar Azad's name is inscribed in golden letters in the history of Indian freedom struggle. His original name was Chandrashekhar Tiwari. Even though people do not know his contribution in the freedom struggle completely, but they do know that he was one of the leading revolutionaries of this struggle and even the big British police officers used to tremble in his name. In his childhood, he protested the brutality of the police and threw a stone on the head of an English officer. n his revolutionary life, Azad gave a tough competition to the British at every step. He chose the thorny path by sacrificing a happy life and sacrificed his life for the country. Even though he could not see the sunrise of freedom in his life. Great revolutionary, unique patriotic and determined Chandrashekhar Azad's unique work showing complete personality with untouched life stories.

ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಜನತೆಗೆ ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರ ಒಬ್ಬ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿಕಾರಿ ಭಾರತದ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ ಹೋರಾಟದಲ್ಲಿ ವೀರ ಮರಣವನ್ನಪ್ಪಿದ ಅನ್ನೋ ವಿಷಯಕ್ಕೂ ಮಿಗಿಲಾದದ್ದು ಈ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಿದೆ.

ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಕೇಳಿರುವಂತೆ ' ದೇಹ ಬೆಳಿಸಿದಿಯ ಬುದ್ಧಿ ಒಂದು ಚೂರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ' ಎಂಬ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಅಪವಾದ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಆಜಾದರ ದೇಹದ ಧಾರ್ಡ್ಯದ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ತೀಕ್ಷ್ಣವಾದ ಬುದ್ಧಿ, ಚುರುಕು ಯಾರನ್ನೇ ಆಗಲಿ ರೋಮಾಂಚನಗೊಳಿಸುವಂತದು.

ಕ್ರಾಂತಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ಚಂದ್ರಶೇಖರ್ ಅವರು ಯಾವಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಚರ್ಯೆಯನು ಅನುಸರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು ಮತ್ತು ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಭಂಗ ತರುವ ಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಎದುರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದನ್ನು ಕುತೂಹಲಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಓದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Being a reader I just want to cherish such a magnificent life changing person's biography without giving my own opinions or thoughts because as I told before we can't even imagine to take step a forward like him that what he did for our beloved motherland.

Being armed always showing enormous bravery is not all about him but it's the way he struggled against the mighty Britishers is what always be focused.

He died at a very young age of 24 but what he did is quite commendable. It's not the final result but the initiative he took to free our country from the irons of Britishers is always remembered.

Another beauty of the book is that it's not focused only on Azad but his friends, his near & dear ones & other freedom fighters too who dedicated their respective lives happily for our motherland.

So it's a suggestion from my end not to read the book to just it, read it to feel proud for the efforts our freedom fighters put to make our motherland a free one
