Profiles depraved sociopath William James Bland, who raped and tortured women and children, including his own stepdaugthers, and recounts his flight from the law, capture, and trial for the brutal murder of seven-year-old Phoebe Ho. Original.
This one was so horrifying that I could just about feel my hair turning white as I read it. Grisly, gory, heart-wrenching story of a serial sex offender who was let out of prison over and over to see if he could get away with it better the next time. The way 30+ years of victimized people came forward from all over the country to testify against him was awesome, in the most literal sense of that word. I was reduced to tears several times. I wish there were some way to make the Ho family feel just a little better. With all that said, I wish Pinnacle would break down and hire a copyeditor to clear up distracting misspellings like "coronor" and "consistant" and tidy up some of the clumsy usage. This story was carried by the sheer force of its own ugliness, but it could have been a genuine classic if the editing had been taken a little more seriously. HIGHLY recommended -- for the not-so-faint of heart.
I must check if I still have a copy of this book but I do remember that I've read it.
This is what I wrote on September 2005 to a US friend of mine.
Hi, I started to read this book and could not stop and finished it this morning. O these cases really make me so angry. How come a guy like that who tortures young kids and women, who was caught so many times, still gets away from jail!!I don't understand this. On the other hand our justice system is worse. If you get life here you are free in 10 years.thank you for sending this book to me.
