This volume covers through chapter 88 of the manhwa and ends kind of on a cliffhanger. I listened to the audiobook and realized I do not like audio of sexy time (and there’s a lot in this volume lol). This narrator vocalized all the ngh’s, grunts, and moans with enthusiasm and for some reason gave Sangwoo a little bit higher pitched voice 🫣.

-Dual POV really helps understand where both are coming from and how their behavior impacts each other
-Loved Jaeyoung’s patience and waiting for consent but holy jealous much?
-One is jealous and possessive openly and one doesn’t know what he feels and keeps defining it wrong in his head

Time to watch the drama I guess!

Was this a worthy sequel/ending to the perfect first novel? Kinda sorta not really, at least for me.

I had to switch to the Spanish edition because I'm too impatient for the second English novel to come out. I will start by saying that the translation is waaaaaay better and includes more "cultural elements." However, the division of the story between the two books is quite unfortunate, as this second part only includes the third act of the story, which I always found a little meh anyway (dragging on forever and then abruptly ending), barely reaching the halfway mark of the book, and the rest consists of the Extras.

This might be controversial but I didn't love the Extras, I even found some of them boring and repetitive 🫩. I wanted to love them but at some point I just found myself looking forward to finishing the book already because it's sooo loooong.

Anyways, I'm done and I even had time to get over the story and even get tired of the characters while reading this second novel, so I'm not even sad. Thank you for the good time Jae-young and Sang-woo ⭐️

This wasn't bad, but it was definitely a step down compared to the first book in this series. I still mostly enjoy Jaeyoung and Sangwoo as a couple, and it was nice to see how their relationship developed. Story beats from the first book were all picked up and dealt with in a mostly satisfying manner. I still enjoy the overall writing style, I never encountered anything that made me outright cringe or shake my head. However, to explain my issues with this book, I have to go into more detail.

The thing is, I don't understand why this book is as long as it is. After the first half, the story should've been done. Jaeyoung and Sangwoo's relationship comes to a nice romantic high point after they've dealt with all their emotional troubles and there would've been enough left to the reader's imagination to think about how their lives continue. But the book just... keeps going. Like, why? The second half of this book is filled with sudden time skips, artificial drama, and unnecessary complications, which are all just made up to keep the book going. It felt so random! It was starting to feel like I was reading a fanfic where the author kept coming up with random drama so the story could continue. It just didn't make sense to me. My interest in the book declined massively after the first half, and by the last 50 pages, I just wanted to be done with it all. We had a good thing going here, but then it overstayed its welcome.

There were things I praised in the first book that now took a turn for the worse in the sequel. I initially liked how Sangwoo being autistic-coded was being treated. It wasn't seen as something big that needed fixing, but rather Sangwoo simply learning to warm up to certain situations. But now the book phrases it as Sangwoo actually becoming less like a robot, that Jaeyoung was able to change him, and that this changed, more warm-hearted and less socially awkward Sangwoo is an improvement. It just felt like the book was now implying that it's actually desirable that Sangwoo HAD TO change his neurodivergent behaviour in order to become a better person.

There were also some aspects to Jaeyoung and Sangwoo's relationship that felt a bit iffy to me. There were several moments during the more spicy scenes when Sangwoo was feeling uncomfortable or unsure, and Jaeyoung outright ignored that and kept going. This was not portrayed as a problem, but rather as a "barrier" they had to break through to experience even more intense intimacy. I don't know, it didn't feel fully consensual at times (or at least not well communicated)...

Apropos intimacy: there was sooooo much s*x in this book, and it started to annoy me at some point. Like, I get it. The BL gotta BL, and the first book was spicy as well. But in the 2nd book, it just feels like whenever Jaeyoung and Sangwoo didn't have any story-related things to do, they would shag. All the time. They would make out, and 10 pages later, there would be another s*x scene. It was just too much shagging and not enough romance for my liking. The smut starts losing its appeal if it happens too frequently. Literally at the very end of the book, when the characters actually need to hurry to get somewhere, they just start snogging again and then book ends. It just felt too random and uneventful after a while.

The thing is, I didn't hate this. But it was disappointing how annoyed I was by the end of the book. The first half is a perfectly solid end to Jaeyoung and Sangwoo's story, but then the book just keeps going and ruins it all with random bullsh*t. Minor flaws from the first book have become way bigger issues. I still really like the first book, and I like the couple's vibe. I just wish the story had found a better way to wrap up their story.

I'm in love with both Sangwoo and Jaeyoung. They're my lifeblood. I feel most at home when I'm reading about them. I want ten more novels with them as the main characters 😭 It's not going to happen, but the heart yearns for it.

I think my favorite thing about this series is how much fun I have while reading it. I laughed out loud multiple times while reading this novel. I even read passages of it out loud to my best friend and cracked myself up revisiting the moments I found the most over-the-top and delightful. It's one of my favorite BL series because of how much raw enjoyment it brings me. It's part of why I don't want to say goodbye to the characters. I'm usually the type of reader, especially with romance, that finds it absurd when a romance has more than one novel; I find it excessive and unnecessary. These two are an exception to the rule. I could read about them forever!

Sangwoo, as always, is number one in my heart. He continues to be oblivious as ever to his own feelings throughout the majority of this novel, and that's part of why I adore him. He wants things to make sense so much that he's convinced himself that what he feels for Jaeyoung is purely physical. Meanwhile, here he is feeling jealous and even crying with frustration at the possibility of Jaeyoung leaving! My baby is in love 🥺 It's so wonderful seeing him navigate such complex emotions when, up to this point in his life, he'd never really felt this strongly about anyone. I always side with my baby...even when he's being obtuse and insufferable 😌💖 It's his right to be messy!

Jaeyoung in this novel got me back in his little evil clutches. He's so smitten with Sangwoo that I can't help but be obsessed with him too! He wants Sangwoo to confess and ask to be boyfriends SO BAD. Like, he wants that man SO BAD. As he should! Sangwoo's babygirl. To be honest, I don't even care that Jaeyoung was out of pocket at the end of this volume. I don't care that he was livid and full of jealousy. I felt bad for my baby because he was clearly upset and confused as to why Jaeyoung was so mad at him...but I get it. He was just frustrated 😩 Show some mercy to my man! I would also be mad if my situationship (who I'm in love with) purposefully tried to make me jealous AND let some other man kiss him. Hello?!?! Anyway. Yes, I'm a proud apologist for Jaeyoung's actions in this volume. Call me toxic. Blame it on my Scorpio nature.

Anyway ✨

I want Sangwoo and Jaeyoung married with 10 kids. They can do surrogacy, adoption, whatever. I really don't care. I need them to be husband and husband and in love for the rest of their lives.

3.5 stars. Surprisingly, I didn’t enjoy this volume as much as the first one. I already know the story from the manhwa, and I liked that the novel isn’t as tame, but I felt like the plot was a bit lacking in this section. I don’t mind the smut, far for it, but all they do is fuck 😭 Seriously lol. 🙈 It was getting a bit old after a while and the effect was lessened by it. I kind of lost interest. So this is not getting a four from me.

I did like getting their interior perspective, especially Jaeyoung when he misses Sangwoo during the funeral separation (I got straight-up butterflies when he goes home early because he can’t bear to be away any longer), and Sangwoo’s later jealousy. That was very nicely done. They have incredible chemistry, and overall it was enjoyable, but I went into this really excited to read and then the excitement tapered off a bit. Which is fine.

But mostly I think I’m biased because the editing team—if they have one, though that seems unlikely—did a seriously abysmal job. It’s not the translation so much, although I can’t check myself. The prose is fine for the most part. HOWEVER. There are so many typos, like doubled or missing words. It’s a real shame because it completely breaks the flow and immersion. At this point I might as well learn Korean and read the original book. The occasional mistake is understandable, but this is at the level of cheap and unprofessional. I don’t know if they had tight deadlines, which I can sympathize with as a fellow translator and reviewer, but still. There are so many errors. GOD 😭😭😭 I think the one that did it for me was ‘his eyes shined’. I very nearly threw my phone across the room.

I genuinely love the OG story and don’t want to give this a bad rating just for that reason, so I won’t, but…

Shame on the publisher, for real.

I'm reading Publang's digital English release of Semantic Error! Volume 2 of the novel just ended today and there taking a 6-7 week hiatus before continuing into the volume 3 serialization late July 2025.

I've read the full series with the manhwa's digital release, and I've been following the print release of the manhwa as well, and it's been such a treat to get the source material in English!! I'm a big fan of the manhwa and love the art style and character designs a lot, but it's been so nice reading the original novel that the adaptation is based on. I love all the extra detail with the characters' inner monologues, and the extra nuance we get from the emotional descriptors and use of honorifics. Sangwoo flipping between sunbae-nim and hyung for Jaeyoung and Jaeyoung's "Sangwoo-ya" make their teasing and flirting even better!!

Love the developments in their relationship in this volume! My favorite scene of the whole series is Sangwoo getting his excavator tattoo, and I loved how the tension and emotion came across in the novel!! Volume 1 of the novel covered the first volume of the manhwa and half of volume 2, so I'm assuming volume 2 will have covered through the end of the third volume of the manhwa (assuming, because the manhwa vol 3 hasn't released yet!), but looking forward to the next novel volume to start its serialization next month!
