Have been waiting for a long time for "Mark's story." and this is worth the wait! From the first page this saga had me hooked into overdrive. High stakes, action-packed, good against evil plot paired with an amazing romance between two seriously flawed and damaged characters. The story wraps up all the questions from the series perfectly. Highly recommend!

Very excited about Shadows and Light

Another amazing book by Lark Brennan! Her story telling and detail create intrigue and paint amazing pictures. I highly recommend the entire Durand Chronical series.

This is book five of The Durand Chronicles series and the main characters are Mark Durand and Lily Powell. Mark has been searching for Lily for the best part of a year, after she and her friends were kidnapped whilst on holiday in Europe together. Mark is following a trail of sex traffickers, who have abused her and sold her on, until she ended up in the hands of one of his biggest enemies. Mark has taken a powerful ruby with him, which enhances his powers and his death touch, allowing him to kill without touching someone. The person trying to draw him in with a huge bounty, thought he was protected by a large number of Dissemblers and was going to broadcast Mark’s death to his boss, the Brazilian Sentier. He vastly underestimated Mark and Mark managed to get Lily back, damaged though she was, but at a great cost to himself, as the ruby stops working for him and he gets hit with a massive burst of dark magic and the pain of all the souls he has killed. This time, the ruby won’t clear him of the pain and dark stain, leaving him in pain and unable to touch Lily, who wants his touch, but that of no other man after her experiences.
They set off to a healing place in Wales, to help her heal from her trauma, after she refuses to go to the Durand stronghold in Paris, nor return to her mother’s clutches. He also hopes to find some way of gaining his powers back, from all the ancient papers and research at the location. His initial attempts fail and Lily makes it obvious she wants more from him than he is willing to give. He has spent his life as a Protector and the Field General of their forces, doing things he doesn’t want her to know about and that he feels make him untouchable by someone pure like her. The attraction goes both ways and as her powers grow, so does her realisation of how he reacts when she is around. She refuses to be left behind and ends up at the Source in Paris, with him, Adrien and his wife Tate. The research has led him to one possible method, but it will involve the Guardians and the Source, if he is found worthy enough. Their enemy is trying to gain a foothold in the ordinaire world and show Mark to be a trafficker who kidnapped Lily himself, putting a large bounty on both Mark and Lily, dead or alive. A battle for good over evil, with innocent women and children being used as pawns and only the advantage the Durands have with their technology, is helping them to stop the drug and human trafficking operations of their enemy, which Lily was caught up in. A tale of perseverance and determination, leading to love in difficult circumstances. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

An Enticing, Paranormal & Captivating Read

Lark Brennan has done it again. Grabbed me from the 1st page to the very end with the mystery and intrigue of The Durand Family. In this 5th book of the Chronicles, finding Lily is Mark’s only focus but the path there has left many scars and life altering changes! But then you get to meet Daisy! The suspense and thrilling moments keep you reading till dawn. Read all five Chronicles and immerse yourself in the journey!

Lily and Mark

Lark Brennan once again brought to life some wonderful characters. The love story of Mark and Lily is a delightful read. I enjoy all of Lark’s characters, she makes them strong, lovable , and forces to be reckoned with. I would strongly recommend this series.
