Barbara Elsborg

Barbara Elsborg lives in Kent in the south of England. She always wanted to be a spy, but having confessed to everyone without them even resorting to torture, she decided it was not for her. Volcanology scorched her feet. A morbid fear of sharks put paid to marine biology. So instead, she spent several years successfully selling cyanide.

After dragging up two rotten, ungrateful children and frustrating her sexy, devoted, wonderful husband (who can now stop twisting her arm) she finally has time to conduct an affair with an electrifying plugged-in male, her laptop.

Her books feature quirky heroines and bad boys, and she hopes they are as much fun to read as they are to write.

I really enjoyed reading this. It was super sweet and entertaining.

There was a lot of party planning and Jonty's ideas sometimes had no boundaries, but I didn't mind. I just loved seeing him and Devan again. They are still the same characters I met and loved in book 1, with the same chemistry and banter between them.

I loved that they were back at The Dunes in this one. It was a perfect setting for a Halloween read.

If I had to pick one character to read about for the rest of my days, I always wondered who I’d pick. Until Jonty Bloom. Now? There’s no question, I would read about Jonty here, there, and everywhere…and it still wouldn’t be enough! I know it’s trite, but he has this magical way of turning a frown upside down. He makes me happy. He makes me laugh until I cry and sometimes I just want to cry. Because I wish I could kick the shins of every horrible person that hurt him. Don’t worry, there isn’t any reason to cry here, although you might want to join me in one well-deserved shin striking. But I digress…

Jonty and Devan have been traveling and filling up memory buckets. Devan is trying to make up for lost time and wants Jonty to experience the world with him. Their extensive itinerary was placed on pause when they had to unexpectedly return home. While Devan was tending to his ill mother, Jonty decided to surprise him with a little party at The Dunes. Well, it wasn’t for Devan, it was for Halloween. And it wasn’t little either, more like THE massive bash of the year. But that’s Jonty for you. He doesn’t do anything half-hearted or half-assed. He’s like an overgrown puppy sometimes and just can’t help himself. And even if he goes slightly overboard with party planning, it’s impossible not to love him. Personally, I think he planned and executed the party like a pro. The creativity and attention to the smallest details paired with his grand ideas and contagious buzz of excitement came together in a sensational night. I loved all of the special guests and cherished seeing everyone together. If you adore Jonty as I do, mark your calendar…you don’t want to miss this spooktacular story.

Beware of: Family can be both chosen and blood…their love is evenly matched. Order dependent…this cannot be read alone. And an ending that will take your breath away…from giddy swooning or possibly sidesplitting laughter.

This book is for: Jonty fans, Devan fans, Jonty and Devan fans, or anyone vested in the Unfinished Business Series…I’m so grateful we haven’t hit the Finished button yet!

*pssst. If you aren’t familiar, you’re truly missing out. Start at the beginning and I’ll be here to squee, laugh, and melt with you. You’re welcome.

5 stars ⭐️ This is an easy peasy 5-star read for me. If there is a Jonty in a book, I'll spontaneously give it a 5-star, and that will say how much I adore this sassy guy.

I can read about Jonty forever, and I never will be bored. He is such a sweet, heartwarming, and magnificent character that I couldn't help but love him endlessly.

In this book, we can see that how Jonty organizes a Halloween party at The Dunes (their hotel). It was so fun to read. How Jonty freaked out when things went upside down, and how Devan, the best boyfriend in multi-universe supported him through everything were the best parts of the book. That means the whole book is a chef's kiss.
I couldn't love Jonty more. He is so childish and naive, but he is the strongest person you could ever meet, and I want to hug him so tightly. Jonty elicited my emotion. Yeah, he can do that for everyone. I love Jonty F-O-R-E-V-E-R!

“Who else would have cried when he saw the Mona Lisa?”
“I cried because I was so disappointed.”
“I know. And I loved that even though I don’t like to see you cry. The painting is a bit disappointing. Small, dark and muddy.”
“And that smile. Sort of smug.”
“She does look smug.”

The author did an amazing job writing this story where we could see Jonty is being himself as in his first book. This is not standalone. You have to read ‘The Making of Jonty Bloom’ of Unfinished Business to know who is Jonty, and I highly recommend Jonty and Devan’s story to everyone. Just read. You’ll never regret it.

Looking forward to reading more of Jonty's journey!

For the ending alone, this is a must for all Jonty & Devan fans!!! I only wish I’d popped a few mberries before I started as it would have sweetened my experience considerably. I never saw myself as a Halloween hater but if I never read another Halloween themed book again, it would be too soon!!! There was way too much party planning/preparations for my liking, and I struggled to finish. I did get more into it towards the end but not enough for me to justify a higher rating. Jonty & Devan are one of my favourite couples, so I’m really disappointed I didn’t like it more. I’m very much in the minority, however (as in the only one 😅😬) so just ignore me and check out all the glowing reviews instead 🤡

“I could never love anything or anyone more than you,” Devan whispered. “Northumberland will always have a special place in my heart because this is where I met you.

This is where my life changed forever.”

Let's ignore the fact that I read Jonty's Halloween a day after Halloween. 🙈 Still, no harm, no foul - well, except for Jonty, of course. It's not every day he gets the overly-ambitious and rather enthusiastically challenging idea of hosting an extravagantly entertaining Halloween party at The Dunes. And even thought he does end up with a few more scrapes and bruises than he would have liked and bitten off more than he can chew, one thing is always for sure - 'Life is never not fun with you.' It was, indeed, a very much Jonty Halloween and I very much enjoyed being invited to it. ☺️

“There’s nothing I love more than you, Jonty Bloom. See you soon.”

The thing about people like Jonty who have lived so much of their lives without really having anything - is that when they finally have the chance for it to mean something - they strive for it to have everyone else experience the very best of everything. 'We’ve never had Jonty run a Halloween event before'.🎃👻 Under that shadow of always being neglected and put-down, I loved seeing the creative side of Jonty shine - 'never short of ideas', well, even the over-the-top and ridiculous ideas had a magical appeal to them - he was always trying to solve the problems for a logical perspective side. 😊 He was so dedicated and focused for his project - so very passionate about having the party being an incredible success, because he didn't want it to reflect badly on Devan - for his extravagant ideas.

He never wanted to burden Devan with his problems, because he knew how many troubles were already resting on Devan's shoulders. And he really made Halloween come alive! It was a party I would have loved to have attended! Even with all the hurdles he faced, he overcame each of them with such great resolve! I felt so bad for him when Brian happened - ugh, what a clown! I wanted to kick that guy's ass to kingdom-come. 😤

Fortunately, Devan was there - he's always there - he 'made him feel safe, made him feel as if he belonged. Devan was everything.' 💟💟 Seeing the two of them together - the gentle reassurances over the phone with some wild Zoom calls (Jonty's sexual prowess - yeah, those are some impressive skills! 😅), the reunion that brought Jonty to his knees (no, it's not at all what you think, although there were still plenty of steamy times 😏), those soft but ever-so firm kisses that made Jonty feel 'full of love, full of gratitude that Devan could want to be with someone like him' and that beautiful ending to an action-packed and eventful night of Jonty's Halloween that they would always remember. 🩷🩷

It was so ridiculously sweet and so perfectly summed up their relationship perfectly. When 'the laughter ebbed away until they stood staring at each other, smiling, slightly breathless', I couldn't help smiling along with them. It's that back and forth banter, that understanding that Devan has accepted that life without Jonty in it was not what he wanted - he was that missing piece, his future, his everything. 🥹 🥹 He's always so patient with Jonty - fully loyal to him and knows better than anyone at how special a person he is.

I know Jonty can come across as exhaustive at times, or his comments seem more grating than endearing, but that's what makes him Jonty - the one Devan fell in love with. That easy way of replying back to him and understanding that even Jonty's teasing comes from a heart that is full of love for him - never one to take it personally and destroy anyone who ever hurt Jonty personally. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

“Every time I wonder if you really are the Best Boyfriend in the Entire Multiverse, you show me you totally are.”

It was a wonderful treat seeing so many familiar faces together again - like one big, extended family that embraces everyone with affection and warmth of kindness. Cato and Tay, especially, had their lovely moments with Devan and Jonty that I really appreciated seeing how much their relationship has grown even stronger over time. 🤗🤗 They offered their help so easily and willingly, just being a rally of troops - giving Jonty free reign of creativity with their support. I loved the teasing repertoire Cato and Devan spewed, still offering soft encouraging words when needed, I loved the brief but very much appreciated thoughts of reflection Jonty had about Tay. It wasn't touched upon in Tay's book - as it hadn't included his POV - but just that one little nod of understanding brought so much closure to where their friendship stood. 🥺

And the cover art was so deliciously appealing! 🧛🏻🧛🏻 Those bloody fangs were a character all on their own - haha, Devan really had it rough - the bane of his existence! 😉 I was so very happy revisiting these two again. Their love for each other - even if they don't look like they belong together - they're exactly where they want to be - together. 🥰

Jonty Bloom is joy personified

This was a fabulous longer novella with so many funny moments it's hard to think of them all.

It also had a sneaky bit of a suspense subplot which I felt worked beautifully into the narrative.

I also loved seeing all the other pairs from this series pop up, along with Alexis and Katerina from Jonty's Russian adventures.

I would have LOVED to have gone to a Halloween party just like this one 😁

Unfinished Business fans rejoice; Barbara Elsborg reunites all our favorite characters in Jonty’s Halloween! You don’t need to be familiar with all the novels in this series, but at the bare minimum, reading The Making of Jonty Bloom is required. Plus, each of these stories are five star reads, and I promise you won’t regret it.

Taking place shortly after the latest in the Unfinished Business series, Devan and Jonty are joined by Tay and Ink, plus Cato and Vigge... to help bring Jonty’s dream Halloween bash at The Dunes Hotel to life. Even Ru and Jasim can’t resist the invitation, and make the journey to the rugged coastline of Northumberland, for the event.

Centered around the preparations for the party, Jonty’s Halloween shows Jonty at his best. His madcap antics, unfailing sense of humor, and irrepressible joie de vivre are on full display, and sometimes even Devan can’t reign him in. Of course he hits a few stumbling blocks along the way, but it’s going to take more than a creepy clown to keep Jonty from saving the day.

Barbara Elsborg never fails to deliver the most spectacular setting for her characters’ social events, and I think Jonty’s Halloween ‘do tops them all! Guests delight in all manner of surprises which Jonty rigs up in the (temporarily) haunted hotel. Mechanical monsters, werewolves and zombies serve a spooktacular menu of eats and drinks, and the piece de resistance? A bloody hot tub filled with man eating fish!

We’ve seen tremendous emotional growth in Jonty over the course of this series, and it warms my heart the way this courageous young man handles himself throughout the planning of this event. No doubt Devan’s love and support are great bolsters, but the foundation of Jonty’s singular character comes from within. Barbara Elsborg’s message of self-determination, perseverance, and acceptance is always welcome, and I wish we had a few more Jontys in our world.

I’m pretty sure Barbara could write about Jonty and Devan forever and I’d never get tired of them.

This Halloween story has all Jonty banter and endearing snark with a touch of vulnerability that make you want to keep him safe forever. It’s why we love Jonty. Throw in friends from other books and the usual shenanigans with a touch of drama, and this is the perfect little holiday read that leaves you with a stupid grin like all of the stories about these men. I seriously cannot wait for more

“Look at the stars,” Jonty whispered. “They’re so bright tonight. Makes me feel small and insignificant and a bit dull.”
“You’re not small, dull, or insignificant. You’re the most important thing in my world.”

We could read about Jonty’s shenanigans till the cows come home. He makes us laugh, we want to hug him and wow did we want to go to his spooky Halloween party! If you haven’t met Jonty yet you need to go pick up The Making of Jonty Bloom which is standalone! Jonty’s Halloween is a follow-on and should not be read as a standalone. Jonty’s adorably endearing, he gives us whiplash, he has the biggest heart and he speaks at warp speed. He’s one of our favourite characters by Barbara Elsborg. We are loving these catch up’s and hope there’s more to come as it gives us a chance to catch up with Tay and Ink, Cato and Vigge as well as Ru and Jasim whose book we’re yet to read.

In Jonty’s Halloween, we find Jonty home alone as Devan’s had to go home due to his mum being sick. Jonty being his true self decides to organise a Halloween party at the hotel, and as we know he does not do things by halves. Whilst planning and plotting the ultimate spookfest, he also manages to uncover some underhanded funny business and gets embroiled in criminal drama. There were some real laugh-out-loud moments again because….Jonty!

“There’s no point spending your life feeling angry about stuff that’s happened. It doesn’t change a thing, doesn’t make you feel better. No one should let their past define them. It’s the way they handle the present and deal with the future that’s important.”

Devan is the calm to Jonty’s storm, he is the quiet to the exuberant. He is the perfect soulmate for Jonty. Their relationship is still swoon-worthy, cheeky, and hot. The love they have for each other is so intense, loyal, protective, and filled with sexual chemistry. There’s no more perfect case of opposites attracts, it just works and we still believe in their love! The banter between them had us in stitches, the tender moments and vulnerability had us melting into puddles. This was another wonderful installment of Jonty’s escapades with the gorgeous Devan standing a few steps behind ready to catch the love of his life. Sigh……

‘Jonty deserved to be happy, and Devan’s life mission was to make that be the case for the rest of their days.’

The only redeeming aspect of this is Jonty being Jonty.

The sheer amount of details regarding the party planning is ridiculous. Pages upon pages of it. I don’t really care to read about all the decorations Jonty is buying, what the menu should be, how many napkins need to be riding into bats, etc.

The focus of the Day of the Dead and the movie Coco was odd, especially after Jonty specifically saying that he knows the Day of the Dead has no relation to Halloween. He also worries that it may be seen as distasteful, but Devan reassured him there likely won’t be anyone from Mexico at the party to offend… because apparently something can only be in poor taste of the people it is in poor taste towards are there to witness it. So, even though Jonty was concerned, that didn’t stop him from direction multiple people to do their makeup à la Day of the Dead, and performed multiple songs from Coco (that, having not seen Coco, seem like poor song choices for a Halloween event).

The book reads like a reunion book, with any character of note making a reappearance: the Major, Devan’s parents, Ru & Jassim, Cato & Vigge, Tay & Ink, Mike & Willis, Marcus and Wayne, etc.

This could have been a really good short story, but the bulk of the full length novel would fill the pages of a party planning how-to handbook.

Wow I really loved Jonty’s Halloween it really adds to the series and shows us just what amazing people Jonty and Devan.
Devan is just such an encouraging, caring as well as loving partner who really compliments Jonty they are truly made for each other so I was extremely happy when I realised that he was going to propose and the way he did was just perfect for the two of them.
Lastly I think it’s great how throughout the books that Barbara writes you never get bored as they are filled with drama, laughter and sweetness this is the reason I continue to read what she puts out.

I just love these two.

I also love Cato and Vigge so it was nice to see a decent amount of them.

I didn’t care for a lot of the party planning descriptions but it didn’t matter because Jonty and Devan made up for it.

Not sure why the author insists on torturing Jonty with people who are horrible to him though. Also, anyone else not sad Devan’s mom had a stroke?

Absolutely LOVED the ending. So perfect.

Absolutely spooktacular!! I LOVED it 🧡💛💚💜💜...for me this is probably the best Jonty story since the original one The Making of Jonty Bloom. Why? Because it shows that Jonty is not the simpleton that some people think he is [finger pointing at you Georgina Smith!! 🤬🤬🤬]. He seemingly can't do anything much other than mess things up and be as thick as two short planks BUT he can also create beautiful sea-glass images and loves Devan to bits. He's full of wonderful ideas and [mostly] carries them out to perfection...he is kind, generous, AMAZING and inspirational and could well be my most favourite character EVER!! And that ending?? Yes, tears in this house, I was possibly a teeny, tiny bit overwhelmed for him. He has finally gotten something to go his way, and I couldn't be happier for him.

Thank you SO much for creating him Barbara, he is truly a gem!! I could read about Devan and Jonty forever and a day. 🌈🌈🌈

Barbara Elsborg is BRILLIANT. This lady always has me in awe!! Jonty's Halloween was pure fun!
I enjoyed it from start to finish. I actually never wanted it to end. Jonty is such an incredible character. I could keep reading about him FOREVER! Him and Devan could not be more perfect. They continue to give me butterflies and make me swoon. My love for them is ridiculous!!! In this book, Barbara added in one of my favorite holidays Halloween into the storyline and I was like a kid in a candy store. What she created was absolutely bewitching!

When Jonty decided to throw a huge Halloween party at The Dunes Hotel, I must admit, I was nervous? Could he pull it off? It figured it was either going to be a disaster or a smashing hit! All I can say is I wish I were a guest!! I was certainly there in spirit. If you have read the other books in this series, you are in for a treat! All the guys/characters from the previous books are IN THIS ONE! I loveeeeed catching up with them. They all warmed my heart.

Jonty's Halloween was pure entertainment and romance sprinkled with a bit of intrigue. What will Barbara do next? Whatever it is, I am on board and waiting for more!!

This whole story was a scream, from start to finish.

Jonty let loose on the hotel during Halloween could only mean one thing, yep non stop belly laughs.

There were so many moments where I kept saying wow, followed by omg that sounds amazing. The whole Halloween concept
was just brilliant, Jonty came up with some truly creepy ideas. It was a true extravaganza, full of disgusting sounding food and
jaw dropping acts for the guests. The costumes are also worth a mention, some fabulous, some unexpectedly indecent lol.

Of course the family members all help out and add to the chaos and sublimely ridiculous situations (especially Devan's dad)
The love between Jonty and Devan is still as hot as ever, even with Devan's unfortunate struggles with speech looool.
Yes, Jonty has a Flake, involving some contortion of epic proportions, and Devan is still as smitten as ever.

This story is guaranteed to make your day, if you've met Jonty already then you know you are in for a treat.
Thank you Barbara Elsborg for giving us more of Jonty's brand of love and outlook at life, as always it's a pleasure.

now that’s a party

The reunions with the series couples was nice. There was so much of the party planning details, it felt dragged out at times and even Jonty’s stream-of-consciousness verbosity got to be a bit much. Still fun story overall.

This was ever so lovely, and freakin' hilarious. The reader feels like they're smack dab in the middle of Jonty's Halloween party at The Dunes. Lots of guest appearances by characters introduced in The Making of Jonty Bloom. Can you imagine a Halloween bash dreamed up and realized by Jonty? And then delivered by Jonty, Devan, their fabulous friends and family, the hotel chefs and many of the hotel staff? Sensational, spooky, and so much fun! The ending was a hoot. On to the Christmas novella soon!

I could never tire of Jonty, every book has been a total delight, a warm, cozy read that has me chuckling all the way through, except for the more serious moments that is, and this story has some. Devan has a heart of gold and the patience of a saint! This was a gorgeous read, it was nice to revisit Ink and Tay once again, as well as other people from Jonty and Devan's previous journeys.

I really can't remember the last time I've had so much fun reading a book or otherwise - and that's not saying so much about me, but a lot about this author. Jonty is one of my favorite characters in MM - ever - and so are him and Devan as a couple. At the end of this book I was laughing so hard that I was literally wheezing. If I had to choose the best proposal ever it would be this one - so in character! Jonty, with his runaway mouth will make you smile on every single page and at the same time will touch your heart on the deepest level. To learn about what he's had to overcome and still be that incredible person he is, you absolutely need to read The making of Jonty Bloom in Unfinished business series first and if you want to binge on Jonty this should be followed by Jonty's Christmas and Jonty in Russia. Although if you want to catch up on all the characters that appear in this book you should also read the rest of the the series, but it's not absolutely necessary, although I recommend it. Every single book and couple is amazing and their lives are intervened so it's probably best to read the books in order.
As I've said before, for me, Jonty is one of the most captivating characters in MM. So brave and talented and he doesn't even realize it. Despite the horrible childhood he made the best of his life as he possibly could and never lost the spirit and the heart of gold. He's hiding his insecurities behind the humor. He has friends he made for life (how could he not) but he's missing a partner that will recognize him for what he's worth and love him unconditionally. For him that's Devan. Their relationship lifts "opposites attract" trope onto another level. Devan gives him the courage to bloom (pun intended) and in return Devan gets to enjoy life like he never even thought it's possible. I can't recommend this book or series enough, or any of Barbara Elsborg' books for that matter. You can't miss if you choose any of them. This could be an almost perfect ending for Jonty's stories but I really hope that isn't so, because I think Jonty and Devan have so much more to offer. So to the author : Pretty please!? Should I send coffee, wine, cake... You name it. 😁

Jonty’s Halloween
I’ve just read another gem from Barbara Elsborg about our beloved Jonty and his “best boyfriend in the Universe”- the impossibly gorgeous and devilishly intelligent Devan, who has a big surprise for Jonty, which I can’t reveal for fear of giving you a spoiler. He does love Jonty more than anything in the world and proves it every time.
In short, you will love and laugh at:
Cadbury Flakes, stashed pretty everywhere Jonty is at the moment. You can find those in abundance, tempting and irresistible, which usually lets to sexy times that …oh, so sweet.
Jonty’s driving skills and the tricks he used make that Devan is less nervous about his precious baby, Aston (the car).
Jonty would try to come up with ridiculous ways to try to keep himself from blabbering the truth, the inconvenient one at that, did someone mentioned ball gags? Not to laugh at all his hijinks is a tremendous effort, you’ll see yourself.
Oh, and the word of advice- don’t eat Mberry tablets before supper…
You’ll also learn that KY Jelly is really helpful when putting on a wetsuit (according to Jonty, whose “wisdom” is boundless). Poor Jonty’s friends, his TMIs give them stomach cramps from laughing.
Did you know that Jonty has a fear of clowns? I didn’t and neither had Devan. There was a villain, who tried, of course, to use it against poor Jonty!
And check out the tactics Jonty will employ to survive the zombie attacks; you would be amazed. Or his efforts to learn how to protect Devan when is in life-threatening situations, courtesy of Wikipedia.
The Halloween extravaganza at The Dunes would blow you away. The artistic, creative side of Jonty’s character will shine very bright, guests will be overwhelmed and delighted! It will definitely become a night to talk about and remember for a long time.

I loved meeting all the characters, who played some role in Jonty’s life, all the people we met in other books related to Jonty and Devan.
And of course, the most perfect ending, that involves the beach and T-Rex costume, that needs to be worn without any clothes underneath, including underwear…
You are in a treat, with some witty, funny, sometimes snarky comments from characters, sticky situations with glue, and most hilarious circumstances only Jonty can create, and Devan can survive.
After finishing this brilliant book, one of the feelings you’ll get- the craving for another story, involving our boys, and a wish to go to the beginning and re-read all the books from the Unfinished Business saga.

Don't Make My Mistake Part 4

This review is identical to the ones for "Reinventing Cato" and "Waiting For Ru," and "Jonty's Halloween."

I so much adored the first thee books in the series because Jonty, the brilliantly unique character who centers them, just made me happy enough to skip the next three and get to the last one--"Jonty's Halloween." Halfway through i found so much of the plot involved the characters in the other three that I stopped reading it and went back to see what the other three were like.

After starting "A Long Way Back" I realized I'd made a mistake by jumping to the Halloween book because Tay and Ink grabbed me from the start with their equally snarky and obsessively secret personalities. Then when Ink's secret was revealed I was astonished by how author Elsborg managed to deal with a tragic situation and bring it full force. No spoilers!

Not wishing to miss anything else, I immediately plunged into "Reinventing Cato" and was swept away by the incredibly well developed Scottish detective Vigge, whom I bonded with despite his truly awful situation, one which is salvaged by Cato, whose personality and lot in life could not be more different than his brother Devon, who by now is Jonty's boyfriend. This was a bit of a struggle here and there but in the end I could not put it down. No spoilers!

The fact that "Waiting For Ru" features the brother of Ink from "A Long Way Back" was a risky proposition for Elsborg, I am sure. However, she handled the situation brilliantly when it came to dealing with the fraught and tragic lives of both Ruari and Jasim. This one suffers a it from being a bit too wordy with far too many scenes that deal with routine tasks at a horse training center, but in the end it, too, works. No spoilers!

By the time I was ready to go back to "Jonty's Halloween" I was ready for the absolute lunacy and delightful developments that this completely unique character managed to dream up. In short, it was an absolute hoot. No spoilers!

Jonty is as entertaining as ever

Ok Devan’s Mom had a stroke at the beginning of the book and I gotta say I was hoping she died. Not even sorry I said that… She’s a VERY C U next Tuesday kind of person. I loathe the way she treats Jonty. Also, I wanted Bruce to die.
Why must everyone treat Jonty poorly.
Bruce doesn’t exactly get the punishment I was hoping for. **sad sigh**

Jonty is planning a Halloween party at The Dunes. What could go wrong?

This was an entertaining Jonty adventure. Jonty being Jonty. Devan had his hands full!Characters from previous books pop up which I loved.

The ending is The BEST!
