Dean arrives in the nick of time and finds Kai and his pipe in the brutal hands of Weston Bonner.

Weston has crucial information about Badger Lowell, a hoard of gold, and Dean’s long-lost parents. Information that has the possibility of changing everything. Unfortunately, Weston will lie, cheat, and commit murder in order to rewrite history in his favor.

Dean and Kai are forced to return to 1869, but in order to exact their revenge on Weston and survive the past, they must travel to the mining town of Helena, Montana, break Badger out of jail, and evade capture by the vigilante lawmen.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the first book of the series, I read this with anticipation of possibly going back in time to find out more about Badger. The twists and turns that take place, that conspire to bring Dean and Kai back to the 1860s again had me on edge, from the start with a weary Kai meeting Weston to trying to get back to the present again. Can you really go back in time to change history?

It seems there's another reluctant trip back to the 1860s for Dean & Kai as the dragon pipe and Kai go missing. This time at the hands of Weston Bonner and even more unprepared for the trip then the previous summer in The Night Medicine. With this second book, Dean Wolfsblood, Anna-kai and Badger Lowell have their histories elaborated on and the stunning descriptions of the lands of Montana from 1800's put you right in the thick of the pursuit to find Badger and try to stop Weston. With Weston trying to change history in his favor, and holding on to information about Dean's parent, can you trust a thief and con artist? Will Dean and Kai be able to survive another month in the past, waiting for the next new moon to take them home. I received an ARC for a voluntary and honest review.

Having read and enjoyed the first book in this series, The Night Medicine where we were first introduced to the characters I was eager to read this one. It did not disappoint, the familiar characters personalities were improved upon and given more depth and new characters were introduced as well. The storylines are linked so I was glad I had read the first book but at a push, I supposed you could read this one as a standalone story but I would urge you to read both books in order.

Montana 100 years ago is vividly described, you can picture it and sense the danger. Kai has been kidnapped and forced to return to the past which means Dean has to follow. Fortunately, Dean's problems with alcohol seem to be under control now, he's given up drinking which is good because he not only has to rescue Kai he has to free Badger from jail as well!

I enjoyed this one more than the first book, I didn't want to put it down, I loved the interesting twists woven into the story. I would recommend both this book and series to fans of historical westerns and the paranormal.

This is time travel at its best, going 100 years back in the past to Montana where it is still the Wild West and dangerous. Kai is kidnapped and forced to return to the past, Dean follows them and learns he has to free Badger from jail. I really enjoyed this book and the first book too. This book has Dean getting better and not drinking anymore. You meet a lot of the same characters and a few new ones. A riveting story with an interesting twist to the end. I would recommend this book and series.

When Dean discovers that his medicine pipe is missing, as well as Kai, he's forced to return to the past and release Badger from prison.
Dean discovers that Kai and his pipe are in the brutal hands of Weston Bonner, who holds crucial information for Dean.
As Dean and Kai return to the past to try to change the future, they must face the cruelties of fate and history.
This is a very well written story with exciting twists. I highly recommend the reading.

No ending

The book was enjoyable. BUT, she stopped it where the next one is going to start. I feel cheated when I read a story that is left hanging. I will not read anymore of her books because I don't trust her to not do it again.
