Usually I am all for the "everyone-is-crying-cowboys-are-ryding-horses-sex-happens-eight-times-one-night"-Natasha Madison drama but this time it was not for me for one reasons.

Reed and hazel have sex the last night before reed joins the army. Surprise! She gets pregnant. She reaches out to him, wanting to talk but he ignores her, because he "put her in a box he doesn't want to open". Six years later he discovers what happened- tears- confessions- yadda yadda. Then he makes her apologize, that she did not try harder to reach out to him and then he says: WE BOTH MADE MISTAKES.
What is wrong with you? She has your baby, because you were to fragile to talk to her and then you blame the single-mom for not trying to find you? NO!

This simply killed the book for me.

5 stars!

Wow, what a read. A sweet, small-town, family-themed story that is full of emotion and really pulls at the heartstrings, this book is a total swoonfest with a love story that owned my heart. I freaking loved it!

Full disclosure – I almost didn’t read this book. I read that blurb and was instantly terrified that the story was going to go down the path of a trope that I try my best to avoid… the dreaded secret baby. It’s a genre that gets me intensely riled up and I usually get so incredibly angry that I cannot enjoy the story. But I love this series, I’m invested in the characters and their lives, and I was eventually persuaded to give it a try, and I’m so, so glad that I did because Natasha Madison wrote this story in a way that made it work, and it’s so, so beautiful!

Reed is the son of Casey and Olivia, and the younger brother of Quinn. He spent his life growing up in his father and brother’s shadow, and came to resent other’s expectations of him, and felt smothered by life in his small country town. As soon as he was able, he signed up to the military and left. Hazel worked with Reed at his cousin’s bar, and the two of them were good friends who were quietly attracted to each other, and they spent one incredible night together before he left. That night changed Hazel’s life forever.

Fast forward six years later, and Reed has been injured and is home on leave. At the same time, Hazel’s beloved grandfather has died, and she has returned to town temporarily to deal with things, with her five-year-old daughter, Sofia, in tow. It’s the first time they’ve both been home since they last saw each other, and sparks are about to fly.

The surprise baby storyline is really hit and miss for me – usually a miss. However, in this instance, I could understand it. And it helps that it's not overly angsty, and it Reed and Hazel's reunion is honest and beautifully functional.

The chemistry is still there, and the intensity is ramped up because it’s underpinned by this massive secret and the drama that we know is coming. The emotion runs high, and I could not turn the pages fast enough waiting to see what was going to happen. And I was not disappointed, because the feels are amazing! I read those scenes over and over just soaking it all in, and I absolutely love how they both dealt with the life-changing reveal.

It’s all so emotional, and of course Hazel is still hurt by Reed’s rejection of her all those years ago. But she owns her decision, she heartwrenchingly apologises for all that he missed out on, and she holds nothing back from Reed, being there for him and for Sofia as they navigate this huge change.

And OMG, Reed! *swooooon*

“I found my purpose,” I tell him the truth. She is five years old, and she is the best thing I’ve ever done.

What a man! Reed is suchan incredible hero, and from the moment he learns about Sofia he steps up, and he is all in. He holds no grudge, he owns his part in how everything unfolded, and he goes about making amends and making up for lost time, throwing himself into Hazel and Sofia’s life in any, and every way that he can, and he is absolutely perfect!

“Just so you know, Hazel, I’m not going anywhere.”

Little Sofia is just adorable. She steals every scene she is in, and seeing her with Reed absolutely melted my heart. This book is not just a love story between Reed and Hazel, it’s a love story between father and daughter. Reed is a man who is in love with both of the women in his life, and watching him give himself completely over to both of them is absolutely beautiful. It’s a beautifully written family story, and I loved watching it all unfold

“For the first time in my life, I feel fucking whole. For the first time in my life, there is a reason to me.” I point at myself. “For the first time in my life, I can breathe. Fuck, Hazel, I can’t even explain to you how I feel. Because there are no words. The minute I found out that she was mine, everything … Everything changed. That girl,” I point at the window where I know she sleeps. “She owns me.”

And while Reed is finding his place with Sofia, he’s also falling in love with her mother. The feelings between them have always been there, they’ve just been pushed to the side while they went on with their lives, and now that they are back together and figuring things out, all of that attraction and emotion comes flooding back. It has the feel of a slow burn as everything slowly builds between them, and I was feeling all of the longing and anticipation with them, and when they finally take the step, it was everything that I was hoping for – beautifully honest and no-nonsense, emotional and so damn sexy, and I was in a world of swoon as Reed and Hazel find their happy.

“This … is just the beginning.”

Characters from the series all appear, and it was great to catch up with them again. The dynamics between the group are so much fun, and I love the way that Hazel and Sofia were enfolded into the group.

There’s an epilogue which finishes off the story beautifully, and I finished this book feeling content and satisfied, with a huge grin on my face.

This is the last book in the Southern series, but the Southern Wedding spin-off series will follow with the first book for Reed’s sister, Harlow, and I can’t wait for that one!

I loved this book so much! 5 stars.

Natasha Madison, I didn’t think anyone could top Amelia and Asher, but you’ve proved me wrong because Freaking Reed and Hazel have taken the #1 spot!!

Reed was tired of being compared to his father Casey and his brother Quinn, so he decided to join the military to prove that he is his own man. When he gets injured and returns home to heal, he sees how much he’s loved and been missed. What he wasn’t expecting was seeing how much he missed and still loves Hazel. After everything she went through Hazel never expected to return home but when she gets unexpected news, she knows she must return to the place where she loved and experienced heartbreak.

Seeing Reed & Hazel’s interaction after years being apart brought out various emotions and I didn’t know if I could forgive. Experience the beautiful love Reed & Hazel still share despite what life has thrown their way. I didn’t want it to end and need more Reed & Hazel, please 😊 Thank you for such a beautiful love story and for sharing your beautiful gems with us. Kara~ 5 Beautiful Stars

The overall story was okay but I literally hated the main characters. Hazel did only one thing in the whole book and that was crying. In every five pages she cries. I really didn't knew a person can even have so much tears. In every five pages she is saying sorry to someone or feeling pathetic for herself. She hates Reed but literally falls on his shoes when he shows up. And I hated Reed. He was just so immature. He left Hazel, ignored her messages when she literally told him that it was important to call her and stayed away for six years and when he comes back he acts like everything is totally normal with them. And yeah its been six years and Hazel has not even slept with anyone else.... Like seriously!... And I do expect better characters for the next book. And please I don't want the same pathetic and crybaby female character for the next book. But I do think that even in the next book we will get a same pathetic Harlow who is still pinning for her ex who has already moved on and marring someone else. I will literally throw away the next book if Harlow would not have sex after their breakup. And I already know that i'm totally going to hate Travis too. I have to say this that this author totally knows how to right pathetic women characters. I was literally bored reading the whole book.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.📚Southern Sunshine by Natasha Madison is the eight book in the Southern series. Each of the books in the series works well as a stand-alone. Having enjoyed the series in the past, I looked forward to slipping back into this world and visiting with the characters both old and new.

📚Southern Sunshine gave us Reed and Hazels' story.  Tired of living in his father and big brother's shadow, Reed left home to join the military.  However, before he left he spent a night of passion with Hazel, his best friend and crush.  Reed had no intention of returning home.  However, a terrible accident six years later forced him to return to the place he tried escaping. Itching to get back out in the field he silently counted down the days when his medical leave would expire. Fate, however had other plans.

Hazel's life changed forever after the night she spent with Reed.  Her plans for college may have been derailed, but with the help of her beloved grand-father she  completed her studies, became a CPA while single handedly raising her daughter. Like Reed, Hazel had no plans to return home.  However, when news of her grand-father's death reached her, she had no choice, but to go back to the town where her heart had been broken.

Madison did a great job with the surprise baby trope.  Initially, it seemed Hazel deliberately kept Reed in the dark about their daughter, but as the  story developed the reason for his lack of knowledge in this regard came to light. His insecurities played a major role in him not knowing about his child.

Hazel and Reeds' emotionally charged reunion will tug on your heart.  Their chemistry and connection could not be denied.  However, the  scene where Reed discovered he had a child packed the greatest emotional punch. He harbored no reservations, and fully embraced his role as a father. This recent discovery brought new meaning to his life, and for once he didn't feel the need to run from his past.

The slow burn romance fit well into the story. Their feelings for each other may not have diminished despite the loss of contact. However, they didn't immediately pick up where they left off. It took them sometime to trust their feelings, knowing they had major decisions to make.

Conclusions/Recommendations

Returning to the Southern series  proved to be a delightful experience.  If you love second chance romance, then 📚Southern Sunshine would make a great addition to your reading. I recommend the Southern Series without reservation.  This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

I wasn't sure I was going to like this one. We didn't get much with Reed and Hazel in the prior books to make me excited to read a book with them. I was a little skeptical with the military aspect as well. The way things went down in this book, is not how it goes down in real life so that was a little frustrating.

But I loved Reed once he realizes that Sophia is his. I loved the interactions they had. I cried when Olivia and Casey found out. I cried when Billy talked about Pops showing them pictures of Sophia. I cried a lot of happy tears for them in the last half of the book.

I shouldn't have doubted Natasha Madison. She is one of my favorite authors for this very reason.

This book!!! I am truly struggling with just how to put into words how Reed and Hazel's emotional love story sucker punched me! Added to that, this is the last book in the Southern Series, which brings a sense of sadness and nostalgia to it, as well. This is, without a doubt, my fave book in the series...Ms. Madison definitely saved the best for last!!! I'm telling you right here, right now, before you read this one you're gonna need to grab a box of tissues, a DO NOT DISTURB sign and copious amounts of your alcoholic beverage of choice!

Reed and Hazel have grown up together in the small town where "secrets never stay hidden", always the best of friends, telling each other everything, talk about everything....well, everything except the attraction they are both fighting! Until just before Reed leaves to join the military and they share an EXPLOSIVE night of passion. Reed can't wait to leave town, he hates the expectations and comparisons to both his Father (Casey) and his older brother (Quinn) and feels like he can't compete and doesn't measure up, so this is his way of leaving his mark on the world! As for Hazel, she had every intention of leaving to go to college, but that fateful night with Reed completely changed her life, in the best way! Hazel, being the strongminded and determined young woman she is, makes the decision to keep her baby and with the help of her Pops, she goes to college and gets her degree. Neither Reed or Hazel ever want to go back to the town where they were raised...but fate has other ideas!

When Reed is injured on a mission, he decides to head "home" for his rehab. Little does he know that his life will never be the same! At the same time, Hazel has come back to deal with the aftermath of her beloved Pops death with her now 6 year old daughter, Sofia (who, by the way is absolutely ADORABLE!!!)....and the inevitable happens! Oh my heart!!! The emotions, the gut-twisting emotions, Ms. Madison has a knack of producing are all here....and THEN some! Even though I would say this is a slow-burn romance, once the burn is set in motion....it's a 5 ALARM FIRE, CONSUMING EVERYTHING IN IT'S PATH!!! And the heartache? Even the angels were crying! But it was alllllll worth it in the end because the HEA is definitely NOT TO BE MISSED!

I have loved each and every book in this UNFORGETTABLE series and I can't WAIT for the next one to start....I KNOW there are more secrets to unveil in the South...

The Southern Series has been such a swoony delight. I’ve simply adored diving into the small town charm of Natasha Madison- in a series whose pages are chock full of heartwarming moments, dreamy and loving leading men, resilient and relatable heroines, sweet and sexy chemistry, and the emotive and resonance themes of healing through connection and the unbreakable power of family and unconditional love.

I had high hopes for this finale- since I’ve loved the series and Reed and Hazel’s story played on tropes that are some of my favorites. While I still enjoyed this read (and read it in one sitting), it pains me to say that I found it a bit of a let down- not quite the bang of a Southern finale that I anticipated, more of a whimper. But, while not my favorite in the series, the trademark Natasha Madison sweet, long-agnst charm still shone

It wasn’t so much that I didn’t like what I read- more so, I felt like the romance part of this story was somewhat missing. When it came to a story about a man becoming a father, falling in love with the daughter he didn’t know he had- and reconnecting with his family and finding a new path for himself in that family, this story is beautiful. While you’ll need to suspend some disbelief (some of the details of Reed’s disconnection and the secret baby being a secret felt a bit loose to me) and while I still don’t fully understand Reed’s resistance to his family to begin with, his journey I found quite compelling. While stories with similar plots are full of anger and prolonged angst, Reed just takes it on the nose, embraces the miracle that he’s a father, and leans in hard. It’s what makes him such a swoony leading man- he’s kind and giving and gracious and accepts responsibility for his missteps and disassociation, and he shows up in a big way. I loved watching him fall in love with Sofia, and I loved watching him be re-energized as a man as this life changing knowledge causes him to re-evaluate not just where he wants to be but WHO. Reconnecting with himself, with Hazel, and most importantly, with his family- that aspect of this story was really engaging- and all full of feels.

Where this let me down was actually the romance. I adored Reed, and I adored Hazel too. She’s strong willed, sweet, an amazing mom, incredibly patience and gentle hearted- just a really likable heroine. But the romance really took a back seat to parent and family side of this story- so much so, that at times it felt more about two people learning to co-parent than actually falling back in love. The burn is so slow it’s practically non-existent- and
despite their history, we don’t get much sexual or emotional tension at all. Little flirting, no fleeting moments, barely any acknowledgement of a sizzle between them for most of the story. Then, in the last 20% or so all of a sudden they end up dating and falling in love and deciding to be a family in like three chapters. The chemistry and interest actually felt surprising to me even at that point- because it has been so subtle. I feel like I missed out on these two actually falling in love- and all their interactions are about Sofia, so they actually really don’t even know each other as adults, and they’ve both been through so much. We don’t ever get much resolution about their pasts, and with SO much history between them, I guess I expected a bit more emotional processing and a bit of conflict- but we really have none. I like the low angst vibe, but it feels more glossed over than low angst. And I loved these two as individuals so much, I just wish we’d had more time invested in their connection as a couple, vs. their chemistry as a whole family.

S0 I adored parts of this for sure, but the romance aspect just was a miss for me. But, I still really adore this series, and I’ll be looking forward to the Southern Weddings spin-off. And, as always, it was great to spend time with such a deliciously swoony southern hero and this loving family I just adore.

“You, Hazel Bennett"—I smirk—“are the best thing this town has given me."

I enjoyed this book well enough. The pacing in the beginning was kind of slow but I read it in one sitting. Sophia was such an adorable little character and the way Reed fit so naturally into her life was heartwarming. Hazel was strong, independent and capable but she wanted Sophie to have both her parents love. The Barnes family lot were really nice and welcoming and I loved all the side characters. The one thing I admire about this book is that there was really no negativity or unnecessary drama. Things flowed very smoothly, Hazel & Reed had great chemistry and both were mature and understanding. Both of them were good characters and I loved how they communicated their feelings so well without much hesitation. I am very happy to learns that this book is part of a series so I'm very excited to check the other books out!

I absolutely love this entire series and Southern Sunshine is no different. The moment I started reading this one I completely fell in love with it.

Reed always felt like he was in the shadow of his father and his brother growing up and couldn’t wait to get out of town. He wanted to be his own person and to find his reason in life. Hazel grew up with Reed, they were practically neighbors and friends. She grew up with her grandfather. She eventually left town for school and hasn’t looked back. Now, six years later both Reed and Hazel are back in town and face to face after no contact with each other the entire time, but there are plenty of secrets between the two of them.

I loved Hazel. She is hardworking, strong and her love for her daughter, Sofia is strong. She will do anything for her daughter and to make sure her daughter knows she is loved. Sofia is hands down adorable. She is smart, cute and hilarious. I loved Reed a lot, too. He was lost and loved seeing him find himself again throughout this story.

Compared to the previous ones in the series, I felt this was a little lighter but full of all the same love, secrets and emotions. These characters really have you feeling like family.

If you’re looking for a small town, second chance, secret baby romance this is one to read!

Reed never felt at home he hated living in his fathers and brothers shadow.
Hazel is a life long friend, a neighbor to their farm who she lives with her grandfather

Six years later Hazel and Reed return to home one from the military and one from another city.

I am literally obsessed with this small town series and Southern Sunshine is one of my faves. I love a surprise oopsy baby and thrown in an Alpha guy and I am toast. This book delivered on all my favorite tropes.
Reed has finally come home after being in the services for 6 years, who also happens to be in town Hazel the best one night of his life and in tow is a little girl Sofia who happens to have Reed's identical smirk.
The whole book was just butterflies in your belly, hand to your heart so good. It was angsty and heartwarming and just everything I love about reading. you will not regret meeting all these amazing characters and having them interact as a true family. Reed is a keeper The entire series is just unforgettable and I was so happy to see a spin-off series. A Must Read

Casey to his youngest son, Reed: “I thought I was going to have to knock you out at one point." --“You need to thank your mother and your grandfather for saving your life.”

Nostalgic Gifs
That's right, Casey! You tell him. Because Reed Barnes is no where near the man that Casey is in Southern Comfort or the man that his older brother Quinn is in Southern Heat.

Reed does what his cousin Ethan did in Southern Sunrise, which is leave his small town and family for years, because he is having a personal dilemma. However, Reed's personal crisis is much more shallow than Ethan's, and Reed happens to leave more behind than broken hearts and a trails of hurt. So it is a wonder why Reed gets off lighter than Ethan does.

And the Natasha-Madison-heroine he leaves behind? Hazel.
Oh Hazel, girl. Both your predecessors and I want to tell you:
Better You Than Me GIFs | Tenor
Hazel wasn't a bad romantic interest; she just lives in stasis, like many of these heroines, until meeting up with Ethan again, with the exception being that the secret she has seems to be kept more like a shoulder shrug, of "oh well," than out of vindictiveness or hurt. It is all so out of sight-out of mind, with the only truth being that Ethan doesn't deserve much more of her effort, anyway.

Hazel does no pining. Thank the lord. She leaves the small town too, but her life isn't anything to write home about.

Due to the fact that Hazel and Ethan's connection is not given development beyond a whambamthankyou, fade-to-black, night of their youth, there is little detail on their childhood friendship, their grandfathers' friendship, or instances/scenes from which a budding love would grow. When they meet again, chemistry is non-existent, and "the secret" is the only reason for them to be together.

Also, the pain or regret from any mistakes of past decisions is fleeting, both of them chalking it up with a "I didn't know because I was focused on myself" vibe and no need for forgiveness, which is cool, but it made the conflict, the romance, and the story overall...very lukewarm.

I just didn't believe in their love for each other, and in the end, they are neatly woven into the fabric of carrying on the family's legacy and making babies, LOL. Not such a profound ending to the series, a series which has an epilogue that jumpstarts another spinoff series: Southern Weddings.

LOVE, LOVE LOVE this series, and I know it will be a series I re-read annually. Southern Sunshine brings us a second chance for Reed and Hazel and bringing us up to speed on our favorite friends. I love Sundays at Billie and Charlotte’s.

Why we leave and why we return to home means something different for everyone. Reed and Hazel left for varying reasons but returned due to circumstances. Is one of them they are supposed to reconnect? They are both successful, but are they returning home for happiness?

We also get a preview for what is to come, so exciting!

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Natasha Madison stole my heart with Southern Sunshine (Southern #8). This small town, surprise baby and second chance romance is sweet perfection with so much love and heartwarming moments.

I have all the love in the world for Reed and Hazel. Especially since Reed is my favorite of the second generation. His southern charm and good guy personality appeals to me. Reed and Hazel shared one night of passion just before Reed left for the military and Hazel never heard from him again. And when Hazel left for college, she took a part of Reed with her. Sophia, a sweet and adorable little angel was conceived that night and six years later, she and Hazel return to their hometown and Reed returns home from the military. I was so hopeful and really rooting for these two. Once they reunited, their chemistry and connection was undeniable and I was completely invested in their story. When you have great characters such as these two and with a well written storyline that builds in such an engaging way, it’s a real winner.

Southern Sunshine is a lighter read compared to the other books in the series however, it’s still has some intense moments and is packed with emotions that tug at your heartstrings. And of course, Ms. Madison brings it when it comes to the sexy times because she’s awesome like that.

Ms. Madison is the master of creating books with relatable and genuine family camaraderie and they give so much love and support to each other. It’s always a great asset to her storylines. Southern Sunshine is no different and this is what I enjoyed the most about this book as well as the series.

Southern Sunshine is a book that took me by surprise! I got my arc this morning and was finished with the book within a few amazing hours! I was hooked on the story and one more page wasn’t enough I had to finish!

This was a first Natasha Madison book for me in a long time and I was reminded of why I love her writing so much! I related to both Reed and Hazel in different ways! They were both such strong characters and add in Reed’s huge hilarious family and well you’re set!

My one issue was that I didn’t want this book to end!

⭐️ 5 "I Found My Purpose" Stars ⭐️
Awww! Natasha Madison definitely kept the best books for last in the Southern Series. After Southern Secrets being a total winner with me, Southern Sunshine was another mesmerizing story! There's something I really enjoy about secret baby romances, and this one was particularly appealing.

Reed and Hazel had a great connection and shared some beautiful moments. Little Sofia was just so adorable and such a country girl. Every moment she was featured in, she litterally stole the show and my heart. The romance was lovely and touching. I adored Grandpa Billy so much and all the family. They're such a great bunch of people!

The emotional moments were aplenty. My heart was cracking for Reed who felt so misunderstood to the point of escaping his little town to simply breathe freely. I was teary-eyed over his level of distress. His mending relationship with his family in the present was so poignant. I simply loved everything about this book that got to me profoundly!

3.5 stars! I read Natasha Madison’s newest release recently, Mine to Take, and in that book we follow a grown-up Sofia (who is a child in this book) and learn about her family. And I was super pulled into hearing the snippets of her parents story so I found their book and devoured it! Southern Sunshine is a small town, one night stand turned surprise pregnancy, which leads to secret baby romance! A lot of my fav tropes!

Starts with Reed’s last day in town before heading off to the military. After celebrating with his family, he shows up at Hazel’s to say goodbye…regretting they didn’t get to know one another better. Hazel is about to head off to college too and they share a night together…

We then cut to 6 years later, Reed has been injured while serving in the military and since he’s on convalescence leave to heal, he heads back to his hometown for a month. At the same time, Hazel’s beloved grandfather passes away and she heads back to their hometown with her 6-year old daughter, Sofia, who she’s been raising on her own.

This was a quick and easy read! The setup with the one night stand which leads to everything else happens super quickly into the read. I just love a multi generational series and I love that this author has a ton of those. It was fun to see how this story played out, with Reed and Hazel both having to change things about their lives to make their future work. It was sweet seeing Sofia’s relationships with her dad (how quickly he’s in once he knows) and her new-to-her-life grandparents. Things move fast and easy, but if you love these tropes then you’ll have a fun time. This whole series is on audio on hoopla and I kind of want to binge them all now!

Natasha has done it again, Southern Sunshine is a rip your heart out, magnificently painful read, that will give you all the feels.

Reed and Hazel spent one night together before Reed left for basic training and Hazel left for college, one unforgettable night that will stay with them both for the rest of their days, for very different reasons though! For Reed, Hazel is the one he left behind, for Hazel, Reed is the man that left her when she needed him most.

After getting injured in the line of duty, Reed is home for the first time in 6 years, back in the place he couldn’t wait to escape, where he’s only seen as Casey’s son and Quinn’s brother. However, when he meets a precocious little girl with his smirk on her face, he realises how wrong he was to stay away.

Hazel loves 2 people, the grandfather that loved her, cared for her, gave her strength and kept her secrets, and her daughter Sofia. When she gets a call out of the blue, telling her her beloved grandfather has passed, her world is in turmoil, she returns to the last place she wants to be and comes face to face with the one man she never wanted to see again, the father of her child. As the truths come to life, forgiveness is easy, but guarding her heart from falling again, is something she just can’t do.

I experienced so many emotions whilst reading this book, anger at Hazel’s grandfather, sadness for what Hazel had gone and was now going through, love for a sweet girl who didn’t know the power of her smile, a contentment for Reed that he’d finally found his peace, a happiness for them both for finding their way back to each other, but also building their family and a contentment that once the story ended everyone was getting the happily ever after they deserved. I loved every moment of this story, every tear dropped, every curse, every laugh and every sigh was more than worth it. I wouldn’t change a moment of it, this family, this series feels like coming home.

Wonderful characters, an agonisingly beautiful storyline, the sweetest 5 year old you could wish for and the kind of ending dreams are made of. All the ingredients of an epic romance read.

Southern Sunshine is another fantastic story in Natasha Madison’s beloved Southern Series and is one of my favourites. It is sweet, emotional, heart warming and beautifully written. It is the kind of story that pulls you in from the first page and you won’t be able to put it down once you start reading.

Reed, son to Casey and younger brother to Quinn has often felt stifled by small town life. Growing up he often felt compared to his brother and father and was desperate to find his own identity and accomplishments when he enlists in the military. The night before he leaves he and his best friend Hazel share a night of passion and go their separate ways. He to the military and she off to college.

Six years later Reed is injured in the line of duty and heads home to rehabilitate. At the same time Hazel has just received the devastating news that her grandfather has passed away and she must return home to look after his affairs. With 5 year old Sofia in tow, neither Reed or Hazel are prepared for what awaits them back home as it will completely change the course of their lives.

From the moment Reed and Hazel cross paths again their connection and chemistry is as if no time has passed. I loved every single moment shared between them. Their reconnection is a slow and delicious burn and so worth the wait! The moment Reed meets Sofia and learns he is her father he doesn’t want to miss a single minute with her and my heart could barely take the sweet and tender moments they shared. Total swoon!

If you love small town and second chance romance with all the feels you don’t want to miss this incredible story. Highly recommend!

Southern Sunshine is the eighth book in the Southern series by Natasha Madison. Reed Barnes never wanted to be a cowboy. He saw the military as a way out. He enlisted and never looked back until he was injured in the battlefield. Now he is heading back home. Hazel discovered she was pregnant the night before she was supposed to leave for college. While her plans were altered, she was able to keep her baby and built a life for them both. She vowed never to return to her hometown as there are too many memories and too many watchful eyes. However, when she learns about the sudden death of her grandfather, she is forced to return home in order to settle his estate. The plan was to stay for two weeks. In and out before anyone asked questions. She didn’t account for Reed being in town as well.
When I started Southern Sunshine, I was not aware it was the eighth book in the series. As I read, there are numerous supporting characters that came in and out and their interactions with Reed and Hazel had me confused as to the relationships and history. It wasn’t until I started to write this review that I refigured out why. That being said, the main story of Reed and Hazel was still readable as they are both back in town after six years away. Unfortunately, I could not stand Reed as he desired to leave town as he was sick of living in the shadows of his father and older brother. Ok, understandable. However, when Hazel tries to get in touch with him, he ignores her message. Overall, I did not enjoy Southern Sunshine and I have no desire to go back and read the previous books in the series.

Southern Sunshine is the eight and final title in the Southern series, and features reed, the son of Casey and Quinn who featured in Southern Comfort and younger brother of Quinn, featured in Southern Heat. This title is a heart-warming, sweet, and emotional, small town, slow burn, second chance romance.
Quinn is sick of living in the shadow of his older brother and father and is desperate to escape the small town he has lived in his entire life. With feeling like he didn’t measure up, and wanting to be recognised for his own achievements, Quinn joins the military with little intention of returning home, which he accomplishes until he gets injured six years later and returns home to aid in his recovery.
Hazel was Quinn’s childhood neighbour and friend, she’s a sassy, strong and determined single mother, who only returns to her hometown after the loss of her grandfather.
The chemistry between this pair is undeniable when they reconnect, and just as intense as when they were teens.
I highly recommend this enjoyable series, especially if you enjoy a series with interconnected titles and strong themes of family, friendship and love.

5 Star review of Southern Sunshine (Southern Series #8) by Natasha Madison
Just when I think Natasha Madison cannot surprise me, she pulls another out of her hat. This is a second chance at love story for Reed Barnes and Hazel Bennett and it is one I was invested in from the first chapter.

After parting ways 6 years ago, they are now both back in their home town with Reed recovering from injuries sustained whilst on deployment. We have seen glimpses of Reed and Hazel before so I was excited to finally get their story and what an emotional roller coaster of a read Southern Sunshine was.

Meeting back up with Hazel, he is realizes that the feelings he once had for her remain, but he is also shocked to learn the secret she has been keeping and what follows is a journey that at times had me laughing out loud and at others tearing up. I fell hard for Reed, he is totally swoon worthy and his relationship with Sofia was heartwarming.

This book will get to you on numerous levels and is well written, full of love, second chances and family. Family is not always made of blood and I loved how they were all there for one another, no matter what.

4.5 beautifully delicious stars

What a beautiful instalment in this highly addictive series. Natasha Madison has done a brilliant job at giving us this sweet second-chance romance that. Each book in this series I love more and more. Once you start this beauty you will not want to put it down until you have finished.

Reed has always been restless at home, he couldn't wait to leave and enlist, to become his own person. Just before he leaves he builds a connection with Hazel, and as much as he liked her he couldn't let her get in the way of him leaving. When he returns 6 years later after being injured he never expected to find his connection with Hazel being so strong still, he also never expected the surprise he got. How could he not recognise the smirk from the cute little girl that steals everyone's hearts when its him to a t.

I absolutely loved and adored this one. I loved the way Reed just embraced everything, the way he openly accepted everything and realised he has finally found his purpose, his home.
