A Daddy’s Guidance

Rate this book
Ajax
I’m a mess, a literal hot mess.
I keep telling myself I'll get through this, I'll figure it out, but I never do. Push comes to shove when I'm about to be homeless because I can't seem to take care of myself. I need a Daddy to call the shots, push me to be the functional adult I know I can be, and handle me when I'm in middle space. When my older friend agrees to take on that role for me, we agree it's just temporary.

Falling in love was not part of the deal Ren made with me. When I'm back on my feet, will Daddy let me go or call me his own?

TAGS: crime lords, Ajax is a mess, Ajax can't handle adulting, Renzo just wants to take care of his sweet boy, Ajax has no idea that Daddy loves him, so much pining, seriously this is all pining, There is a Russian mobster too, but he's not all that important yet, Ajax is adorkable, Daddy Ren is so swoony-sweet, crime lords aren't THAT bad, are they?, I've decided they aren't, author says so, mobster might kidnap the sweet boy, for like five seconds, Ajax has ptsd really bad, Daddy makes it better

4.5 stars. Dang, that was a great story with an amount of hurt comfort, awesome!

Ajax is derailing on his own, he desperately needs a Daddy to take care of him. He had one, but the man was abusive and threatening. Actually, Ajax doesn’t know how a real Daddy behaves.

Renzo, his best friend, who’s forty-nine, takes the reins and will help Ajax get back on his feet until he finds the right Daddy. He’s been in love with Ajax for years and would love the be the one but he can’t, he’s way too old for the twenty-seven-year-old boy.

Ajax is traumatized, has anxiety and panic attacks, and needs all the help from his interim Daddy. Oh boy, he wished Renzo would want to be his real Daddy if only the man knew about Ajax's feelings for him.

I absolutely adored this story, it has a lot of moments of hurt, Renzo is not perfect but it is the perfect Daddy for Ajax. There is some angsty moment to find but overall is about how Renzo takes care of Ajax, how they get closer to the moment Ajax can stand on his own feet and they have to stop their agreement.
It’s an intensely written narrative, I immensely enjoyed! Maybe it’s a bit narrow but who cares, it’s the content I love, good focused, age-gap, hurt comfort, age play, ! It had such a great Daddy boy dynamic!

This book had potential. There was an idea. It reads more like an outline of a book than an actual book. A rough outline. There's a lot going on.

There's Ajax who is a "middle" but honestly acts more "little" in my opinion. Either way, he's not adulting very well which I get. Then there's Renzo who is his friend and also a daddy. How convenient. And Renzo is in love with Ajax. Huh. Also convenient. And Ajax is in love with Renzo. And they're both what the other wants. But neither admit it. Also ajax apparently is recovering from some trauma from his ex? Again this is just sort of a brief overview and it doesn't go super into it and instead of getting therapy for his VERY CLEARLY PTSD he instead gets Renzo to be his Daddy for a short time and then they fall in love and that's lovely (meanwhile I can't even get a text back) but then Ajax's ex comes back into his life to kidnap him to settle his gambling debt but actually his ex gives Ajax to this Russian mobster who is enemies with Ajax's brother (who is also in the mob) and Ajax doesn't really like his brother. Then uhh his ex gets tortured and I'm assuming killed (rip I guess) and Renzo and Ajax start dating because they both admit they want each other and then 2 years later Renzo proposes?

I guess?

This story had so much potential. It could have been deliciously dark, hot, and could have ended with that sweetness that I love.

It did not, however, go that deep into any of those things. It just lightly touched on the fact that the previous Daddy was bad, that there was a kidnapping, and the torture of someone off screen that was not the main MC. There was no therapy, this was literally a Daddy Dom that solved all the issues on his own with the help of a brother that was in the canadian mafia to get him back after being kidnapped again. At least I think that was what he was, there was not a lot of explanation on the people in the book.

And the non stop whining about how "he could never love me like I love him" was so overdone.

Not to mention that they didn't even have sex until 70% into the story, which for me, is an automatic mark against it. If the story isn't great, sometimes good sex can get you through it.

Melt my heart

When you have gone through so much and don’t even realize everything you want is already there if only you reach out and take it. This was a hurt comfort friends to more style book. They were absolutely perfect together. The best daddy boy couple I’ve read. My heart broke for both of them and it was nice to watch them get their HEA. The writing was good, the smexy was nice and he side characters were nice. I hope we get another story. One maybe about a certain brother.

This type of Daddy kink was a new genre for me. I've read and enjoyed lighter versions of Daddy/Boy relationships, but this one was a lot more intense than what I've read before. Ajax is a sweetheart, but from the very start of the book it's clear that he isn't able to manage his own life. His apartment is a health hazard, he's falling behind on his work, and he isn't even able to stay on top of his own personal hygiene.

The story is really well written, and I liked both Ren and Ajax a lot, but I'm not sure that kind of dynamic is one I love. The fact that Ajax was dependent on Ren for EVERYTHING seemed to me more like a parent/child relationship than any other Daddy kink I've read before. In previous books I've read, while the boys were definitely submissive to their daddies, they were all able to function as actual adults when their Daddies weren't around. There was a clearer line between a true parent/child relationship, and the intimate relationship between a Daddy and his boy. I had a little trouble getting past my feelings about Ren taking care of Ajax in an almost parental way, but then also having a sexual relationship.

I know it's a popular trope, and I think if you do like this dynamic, this is a really great book. The story was really well written and both characters are likeable and sweet. Even though I was slightly uncomfortable with their relationship, I was really invested in their story. I'm really glad I read it, I think it was probably a great portrayal of this kind of relationship.

The story about Renzo and Ajax was sweet, Renzo was the perfect Daddy, caring and stern.
I liked to see how poorly Ajax managed on his own since it showed then how much his life improved with having someone guiding him.

While I have read the prequel for the series it still kinda made me feel like I had been dropped in the middle instead of the start of a series.

There's plenty of hurt/comfort after Ajax experience with a previous bad Daddy, some ptsd which he needs to work through and also learn to trust again. It was all a journey from beginning to end.

New author for me

While I enjoyed the overall storyline here, there were bits that unfortunately dragged me out of story. Set in Toronto, Canada. A wide age gap with Daddy, his middle, and a whole host of issues they need to overcome.

Couldn’t put this down

I’ve liked all of this author’s books, but with “A Daddy’s Guidance”, I feel like the author has really found his voice. I loved this book so much. I couldn’t put it down, and I am impatiently waiting for the next book. The MC’s were so fantastic together. You knew from their first meeting, though complete opposites, they were meant to be together. You could practically feel the sparks between them right from the pages.

Renzo is nearing fifty, has a good job, a condo, plenty of money, and lots of daily responsibilities. He has his life together. He’s contemplating cutting back his hours, and really looking for what it is in his life he wants. He’s a Daddy and he wants a 24/7 boy. He wants Ajax but has convinced himself that Ajax wouldn’t want the same things Ren does, so he becomes his friend, knowing he can’t be more.

Ajax is riding the hot mess express daily. He’s a complete mess. He’d much rather stay in his Little/Middle mind space, than deal with any of the many adult responsibilities he faces. He’s also dealing with a traumatic situation from a year ago, suffering from PTSD, and trying to deal with it all on his own. He loses focus, can’t remember to pay things like rent, even with more than enough money, and which much rather just hide away with his books and games.

When an old threat rears his ugly read, and Ajax can’t process, Ren steps in to help the man he’s come to love over the last few years. Ren offers Ajax a temporary solution, that benefits them both. They both agree it’s just temporary. Ajax needs a Daddy, someone to take on his burdens, protect him, and teach him what a good Daddy looks like.

Despite Ajax’s issues, I absolutely adored him. If anyone needed a big strong Daddy to swoop in with cuddles, this boy did. Daddy Ren was perfect for Ajax, and you could feel these two falling deeper for each other, as they are trying to keep each other at arm’s length and not develop “feelings”.

This book delivered on all the good stuff: a boy in need of rescuing, sometimes from himself. A big, caring daddy ready to take him on with all his challenges. Some angst and danger. Hot, sexy times between these two, and a lovely HEA.

This will definitely be a book I will come back to and read again and again.

Story: 4.5 Stars

"A Daddy’s Guidance" combines my favorite tropes - hurt/comfort, age gap, Daddy/boy - and delivers them in an at times heart-wrenching love story with characters to care about. I thoroughly enjoyed this book - and its gorgeous cover (hello, Daddy Ren!) - and can't wait for more in this new series.

Brilliant but emotionally damaged Ajax (27) and business associate Renzo (49) are friends who are secretly in love but think they aren't enough for the other. With Ajax's life in a downward spiral, Renzo's caretaker Daddy instincts kick in, and the two enter into a 24/7 live-in "temporary Daddy" arrangement that quickly grows to more as Ren shows Ajax (who's a middle) all that a truly loving Daddy/boy relationship can be. They are both so endearing, have terrific chemistry (and smokin' hot steamy times), and the secret longing each has for the other to make their temporary arrangement permanent is palpable at times.

There's a ton of hurt/comfort in this story, largely stemming from Ajax's horrible past relationship that has lasting repercussions for him emotionally as well as in still presenting very real dangers. It builds up to some suspense near the end, which did feel rushed and resolved too quickly given the seriousness of the situation, but it all leads to a sweet HEA.

There were also times it seemed readers were expected to know more about Ajax's difficult backstory - namely his family situation with half-brother Marco and their strained relationship - than was actually presented on-page. Perhaps some of that is addressed in the prequel, "A Daddy's Patience." I received an advance reading e-copy of this book and have left this honest review voluntarily. (Also read in KU.)

This is a fantastic Daddy/Boy story by Jamie Luther. Ajax and Renzo are two best friends. Renzo has been in love with Ajax since the first day he met him, but Ajax, though attracted to his friend, can't see what is right in front of him. The Perfect Daddy! Ajax is a young man who has suffered a severe mental and emotional trauma. That traumatic experience is tied into his last relationship, which was not the best example of what a true Daddy/Boy relationship should be. Due to the emotional abuse he suffered, Ajax just doesn’t think that any Daddy would want him for a long-term committed relationship, he thinks he’s just “too much”. Enter his best friend Renzo, an older daddy who wants to show Ajax what a good relationship can offer to both parties. They agree to enter into a temporary relationship when Ajax is so unstable that he loses his apartment and is living in his car. Renzo wants to support him and help Ajax see that he’s capable of being a “good boy” and finding a loving partner, preferably Renzo himself! You will fall in love with Ajax and have your heart break with how tough he is on himself but cry happy tears as you see Renzo helping him become the Boy he is totally capable of being. I love Jamie Luther’s writing style because it shows that relationships are not cut and dry. They take work, from both people involved. When you put in that effort, there is nothing better!

Thoughts: Ajax needs an ADHD diagnosis, meds and therapy. The author went way overboard with some of Ajax's "oopsies" (how do you turn on a microwave for 50 mins?! It's not like an oven where you can leave it going indefinitely.). Ren keeps talking about what an amazing daddy he is while never suggesting Ajax go to therapy for his trauma.

Ajax is a boy in desperate need of a daddy. He’s been through a pretty rough time and just needs a safe and loving place to process and start to re-emerge as the person he once was. Enter Ren, a friend and a daddy. Once Ajax and Ren embark on this journey together, Ajax starts to really heal.

I really loved Ren. He was exactly the type of daddy the Ajax needed. Strong, stern, tender and loving. Ajax was a mess! But he was also adorable and endearing. The progression of the relationship didn’t feel forced at all and I really enjoyed their dynamic. I did feel like there were parts where time seemed to skip ahead fairly quickly though.

There is some angst in the form of an ex-boyfriend/daddy of Ajax. While I appreciate and love some angst, the resolution was glossed over and we never really know what happened off page. I am hoping this comes to light in a future book.

I love daddy/boy books and this was no exception. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

Sweet care for his middle.

I absolutely loved this book, the storytelling was so well done. Renzo just wants to take care of Ajax, who is a middle and so much younger, the time they meet he is taken with Ajax. That evening Ajax his world turns, due to a jealous an manipulative partner at that time. Fast forward two year and he and Renzo are in contact again, but Ajax is flailing in his job and his social life and just wants to play and read books. Renzo and Ajax become a Daddy and boy to give Ajax more structure. They both are unaware of their mutual love. The story has it twists, in which Ajax his mob family comes through for him, but has a hea. If you love daddy and boy books this is your book. Triggers: past abuse, partner violence.
I received an ARC from the author to leave an honest review.

Oh, my heart!

I'm so glad that Jamie Luther has entered the daddy genre! He's done a fantastic job creating this world. And I love that some of the found family we meet in this book will get their own books!

Ajax and Renzo are the sweetest couple ever! Although Renzo has been in love with Ajax for years, Ajax has no idea. And after a disastrous last relationship, Ajax is in no hurry to rush into a new relationship.

On the angstometer, this ranks a solid three (1-5 scale). There was a little more angst than I usually prefer, but Jamie resolved it rather quickly. And the HEA he provided was more than satisfactory!

I am so happy that I got to read this as an ARC. I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series! And I definitely recommend A Daddy's Guidance.

Ajax has undiagnosed ADHD, anxiety, and PTSD, and a lot of problems keeping up with his activities of daily living. When he gets evicted from his apartment, he ends up in a temporary daddy/boy relationship with one of his friends, who has coincidentally been in love with him for years.

I found the book a little tiresome because

I was excited to read that that Ajax is a middle, rather than a little, but I feel like they never really got into the age play thing in the book. Like, the author mentions him feeling like a middle fairly frequently, but they don't really do anything with it.

This story was full of so many emotions..it had me laughing, crying, and wanting to hug Ajax and never let go. Ajax's suffering and emotional pain and scars just pull at your heartstrings. Ajax needs a Daddy badly, his life is out of control but he is so scared of placing that trust on another Daddy. Ren is everything Ajax needs to heal and learn to trust again. They are so sweet and hot together. There is also some suspense with Ajax having a stalker; however, the main focus of the story is the relationship between Ajax and Ren which is so emotionally raw. I am addicted to this new Daddy series and I want more!

Freakin fantastic! I seriously loved Renzo and Ajax! They are best friends with the complication of Renzo being in love with Ajax! When Ajax has a problem with his past coming for a nasty visit, Renzo steps in a helps him out. I loved every word in this story!! I’ve read all of the author books to date, and I feel that he has grown so much, I cannot believe he’s only been publishing for a year! Fantastic!! Overall the story was really well written with realistic, complex characters, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My review is solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

What a real Daddy should be

All in all, Ajax and Renzo were *chef's kiss*. Is not often you find a middle in age play stories, but they are just as important. Renzo was everything Ajax needed and more. Is love and care guided Ajax they this trauma and their him become the happy boy is Daddy wished he could be.

If you haven't read the prequel to this series with Daddy Cruz and little Emmie, to find it and check it out first. You don't want to miss the amazing world being build before your eyes. I loved the prequel and I love, love, loved Ajax and Renal. I'll try my best to patiently wait for the next book in this series!!

I enjoyed the first half of this, but skimmed the last 40%, so I'm torn about whether to put it on my "DNF" or "Read" shelves. The writing was good, the story was good... I just lost patience completely with the drawn out lack-of-communication-as-conflict trope. Worse, when I skimmed through the last half to jump to the satisfaction of a big climactic reveal of each other's feelings, I didn't get it. I think that moment got skipped over, in terms of emotional impact; lost in the side plot of the sex trafficking etc.

I can see that this story hit the right notes for a lot of readers, it just wasn't really for me.

I love me some daddy books

This is my first book by this author and I have to say that I couldn't stop turning the pages fast enough. I loved everything about this book and can't wait for book 2. Ren loved Ajax for so long but doesn't think he could be a good daddy for him especially after the trauma he suffered. He does agree to help Ajax sort his life and be a substitute daddy but Ajax wants more. There is plenty of drama but also you get to see Ajax blossom and thrive under Ren's guidance you can't help wanting them to get their HEA. Top it off with an epilogue and I'm a reader for life.

I love reading stories where an mc can mess up his life to the point of eviction and just being a filthy mess in general, where life is a swirling mess to you-know-where and all is hopeless...and then...and then... and THEN (whew breathe) Daddy is there to clean it all up. I've had my life go swirling a little bit myself but alas no Daddy for me, but that's why I read and then take care of those pesky obligations. Book Daddy can temporarily be my Daddy. I digress. If you read Daddy/boy stories then you will love Daddy Renzo rescuing his boy Ajax. ***ARC review***

Ajax is a brilliant young man with a job he loves. What he doesn't have, and desperately needs is a Daddy. Losing his apartment because he forgot to pay his rent for two months, he's taken in by his good friend, Ran. Ren is a Daddy who wants a full time boy. He also wants Ajax, but hasn't pressed for a relationship as Ajax's previous one was a horror that he can't get over.
Their relationship is a little rocky as Ajax learns to trust again. But it's also very sweet. There are underlying issues here, but with patience and the love of a real Daddy, Ajax gets his HEA.

Fun Daddy/boy story

Jamie Luther writes terrific mm age play books and this is a great example. I especially like the way characters cross over from one book to another. I really felt for Ajax, the boy in this book. I have often felt overwhelmed by life and Luther captures this so accurately. This is a fun story with some angst both from a physical and emotional perspective but not extreme. Enjoy.

Trigger warning should have been more

I read the blurb and yet didn't see a trigger warning. It wasn't until I was reading that I was surprised to see what happened to the MC. Honestly it was hard to keep going and enjoy the book. Some books start you on the trigger warning page this does not so please read before you buy I would have liked to have been prepared like I said some books put warnings in their blurbs.

DNF 8%. I liked the premise, but to me, the writing was rough and wordy, the pacing was off, the characters were neither likable nor interesting, their meet cute was… not cute, and the overall flow was choppy. I feel like this had potential but still needed work, especially editing. To me, it felt like a rough draft, at least the parts I read. And I’m usually fine with errors and can overlook them (I mean hey they happen), but this one had a lot; some that made me think it wasn’t proofread. I also skipped ahead to see what kind of daddy Renzo would be, and I wasn’t feeling it. Not a fan. Did not have the vibes I wanted. Just couldn’t get into it. Wasn’t for me.🤷🏻‍♀️

Sometimes what you are looking for is closer to home than you think! Ajax was in urgent need of a Daddy while all Renzo could dream of was to be able to comfort, care for and protect Ajax.
Yes there was a time that I was troubled, but the author covered my issue in the history of the trauma that occurred. Although it doesn't take away the pain, it does lessen it a bit.
Once again I could fall into the writing by Jamie Luther. A style that is easy and comforting to read.

Renzo is looking at his life and figuring out how to make the changes so he can have what he truly wants. Ajax...well, he's trying not to look at his life as it burns around him.

This story showcases the author's amazing writing skills, full characters that you think you'll see at the local store, and a story that pulls you in. Amazing!

Not to my taste

This storyline is just a reminder of many of the horrible things that happen to real people. That is not entertaining to me. The main character is so traumatized and is never empowered to protect himself, a forever victim for such a sweet character. Just not the type of book I could describe as great for pleasure reading for me.

I felt a little bit of an affinity for Ajax, I understood how easy it was for him to let everything go and for it to spiral out of control. While I've never felt the need for a Daddy, I could see how Ajax needed one. Knowing what Ajax had been through, I'm surprised he was able to function as well as he did, especially holding everything in, my heart went out to him. I loved Renzo and adored how much he cared about Ajax. I wish he'd felt age wasn't an issue and had told Ajax how he felt. These two made an adorable Daddy/boy couple and though they both thought it was just a 'for now' situation, it was obvious they were meant to be together. A sweet sexy hurt/comfort read.

A Daddy's Guidance is the first book in the Age Play Daddies series by Jamie Luther. This book is about Ajax, who really needs a Daddy and Renzo, who just wants to take care of his sweet boy. I really loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, hot, fun, full of feels and very well written.
