ELIZABETH BRECK is a state of California licensed private investigator who writes the Madison Kelly Mystery series. A native Californian, "Harriet the Spy" was her favorite book as a child, so it was no surprise when she grew up to become a PI. She has worked mainly in the field of insurance investigations, making her the real-life version of Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Millhone. In 2013 she went back to school, earning a bachelor’s degree in writing, summa cum laude, from the University of California San Diego. Currently there are two books in the Madison Kelly Mystery series: "Anonymous" and "Double Take." They each stand alone, but if you want to read them in order, start with "Anonymous". The books are available wherever you buy your books, including audiobooks and ebooks. If you enjoy holding the printed book in your hand, she hopes you'll buy from your local bookstore--who would love to see you! She lives with a black Labrador named Hubert who is her best friend.

Figured it out 20% of the way in. I picked up this book because the second book in the series was recommended at Kepler's books. I'll give it a shot in hopes the first was a fluke.

I couldn't put this put down! The tension is so intense at the beginning that my stomach was in knots as indeed there have been real-life instances of creepy Uber drivers, who could provide the basis for a story about a sociopathic killer! Also, the setting was local, which added a lot of interest and realism to the plot--the Gaslight District of San Diego and neighborhoods in La Jolla. Madison is a very compelling main character and even though the reader may think they know who the prep is, the story evolves to create a lot of doubt and leads you to suspect others. It begins with Madison discovering a note nailed outside her home that says to quit investigating or be killed! She is in a quandary because she currently is not investigating a case, but she has been tweeting possible solutions to a podcast involving two cold cases. This eventually leads her to investigate the two cases as they might be tied to the anonymous author of the note on her door. Highly recommend.

Anonymous is a gripping mystery thriller that keeps readers engaged with suspense, twists, and a compelling investigation. Elizabeth Breck crafts an intriguing story around danger, secrets, and determination, led by a strong female protagonist. With steady pacing and an atmosphere of tension, this book is an enjoyable read for fans of mystery and detective fiction.

It was fun because it was the first of a local San Diego writer. The private detective in this mystery lived in La Jolla and her story unfolds in the surrounds of San Diego County.
