Vi is one of those women lucky enough to have good friends. In fact, Kate, Rita, and Lila are closer to Vi than her own sister. With children arriving and what feels like an endless cycle of trouble, their friendship has been pushed to it's limit. It's long past time to get together--just the girls.
Is it even surprising when things go sideways? Or when they find themselves looking over their shoulders? Or when they find, one again, that they're stronger together?
This was poorly written and sloppily edited, as others have mentioned. Beth Byers is just phoning these in now, which is a shame.
And now it's just a question of time until we have the "Maternity Blues" -- oh, can't wait for that one! Will there be a murder in the hospital nursery room, for goodness' sake?
I have enjoyed all the books in this series until this one. It was a lot shorter. There were sloppy proofreading errors that any decent beta reader should have caught. And, unfortunately, the mystery was just not satisfying.
I’m so disappointed because I really love all of these characters so much. I’m primed to love the next one and watch anxiously for it because I have been sucked into their little circle. I sure hope the next one is more like the earlier ones than this one.
I used to enjoy these books, but honestly could these people be any more self-centered and whinging! If they spent as much time investigating as they do feeling sorry for themselves (that's mainly the women), these stories would be half the length they are! For goodness sake give them some backbone or pack them off to the country in a bath chair. It's about all they are fit for!
While I enjoy Violet books, this one was less than I expected. Normally there’s a clearly thought out reason for ‘whodunnit’, but this story seemed to just grasp at the culprit, with no real reason. It went from chalkboards to ‘it was him’ and was much less plausible than most of the other stories. It was almost like the way a child would write a story, don’t know how to end the story? Just write ‘and then they died’ at the end?!
I have so many questions about this book. Why would these women even pay attention to these obnoxious girls and why would they even go to the park to play hide and seek? This doesn’t make sense to me. I think they are too smart to do that. I understand that they may feel constricted by their lives, but I just don’t believe they would do that.
Why isn't Violet maturing? She's an idiot at times, this one included.
Sorry - hated this. What are grown, married women closer to thirty than anything, doing having a girls night out after spending a whole day together? Vi is getting dinner the older she gets. I think all the cocktails are messing with her brain cells.
I’ve read every book this author has written in this series. I’ve never seen any of her books with this many errors. Story is great , editing is horrible
Quick pace and upbeat mood (except for the murder)
I always enjoy catching up with Violet and her confederates; it feels like meeting up with old friends. The reasons for the girls' night out ring true, thinking about my own experiences as a young mother. But, of course, the group wind up with more than they bargained for and wind up investigating a murder as usual. This book seemed more like a novella because the murder was solved pretty quickly but I didn't mind that. It felt like a nice little visit with friends that was just long enough.
Rather darker in tone than usual. Characters who cause original problem are not pleasant-----rather nasty and pretentious! Girls night out ends up with 3 of them jailed after rather stupid actions! Woman wanting their help to solve a friend's murder is rather silly, unhelpful, and pathetic!
I read a bunch of cozy series but Violet and her friends are the only series that I actually pay attention to when the next one is due. This one meets all my expectations once again.
Grab a cup of cocoa and give yourself over to a pleasant afternoon
I enjoyed this Violet Carlyle book; however, if you plan on reading this series, this one is more serious than others and has, at least for me, a sad and disturbing resolution. I applaud Byers for addressing a social issue in each book. It’s one of the attraction for me, but warning, this book ended on a much more somber note. I still recommend it and the series, but I thought a heads up would be helpful.
Being an an adult is hard and sometimes Violet and her friends want to go back to being a kid again. But, playing “hide and seek” in the dark , in the park, with people they only just met doesn’t really work out very well. So, now Violet, Jack, and their friends must solve the murder. So, curl up in a comfy chair with a cup of tea and enjoy the mystery.
Violet and friends get into mischief again. There are new characters that lead Violet and her crew into trouble but they rally and manage to rescue the new friends. My favorite part was Violet and Beatrice deciding on a race .
It started out as a girl's night out for the girls and went downhill from the first trip to a new restaurant. The plot is easily followed, the gang discovered the real murderer, and the " race" is on. I highly recommend this book.
I do not as a rule buy books. Cannot afford that luxury. However this series has been so special I didn't want to miss a moment. Love all the characters.
The girlfriends are antsy. Stuck in a rut. Taking care of the babies and acting like staid old women. They decide to have a night out. Let their hair down. Have fun. Be careful what you wish for...Of course havoc ensues. Has baby fever finally hit Vi and Beatrice?
The usual suspects, some slightly different sides of them and a — gasp — conundrum! Of course. But a curious and clever one to be untangled. A treat for fans.
