Newborns change everything—even when they haven’t arrived yet.

The birth of a baby raven is expected any day now, and Ghost Mountain Pack is kind of falling apart, or at least their dominants are. A tiny ball of fluff calls on some of their most powerful instincts—and slices into their deepest wounds.

Rio knows it’s his job as sentinel to walk alongside those dominants as they struggle.

Which would be easier if he wasn’t one of them.

Happy happy happy dance

I was planning on pacing myself, savoring the story. Nope, didn’t happen. One big bite and done.

Then I had a hint of a scene from an earlier story pop in my head and went chasing it. So before I knew it I was back near Banner Rock with Rio, Kel and Hayden with his backpack full of watermelons and engrossed all over again.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend the series, a great escape to a different reality.  Anyone new to Sentinel stumbling across this book and review, do your imagination and heart a favor, find Alpha and start reading.

Wish I could tell you to start the series at any book but as the author herself states the series is not meant to be read as individual stories. So many characters, so many interwoven threads. So much healing and growth among some members of Ghost Mountain, so many more who are ghosts stuck in the shadows.  A continuing saga of healing, growth, relationships, humor...

Ghost Mountain junkies, don’t let tales of the ending keep you from reading Sentinel.  The book is packed with so much detail about events and people other than those in the last few pages that you’ll be upset with yourself if you wait until the next book is released in order to read both together. And what if it’s another year, then you’ll really be upset with yourself.

A year in our time since Elder, though with covid19 feels like it was much longer.  In book time, Raven and Ben's chick is due any day.  Bringing with her/him the joys and difficulties of any baby. Though a baby raven in a pack still healing and part of a family of psychics may have a few unique problems.

So hard to avoid spoilers. Hints: Hayden and Lissa and Robbie have a big surprise, Ivan made himself an honorary uncle, Kelsey pulled off another wonder, the interaction that was needed to settle dominants happened, and  Rio’s wolf finally did what I had been hoping for since Rebel.

The latter brings me to the fascination of characters where wolf and human are different personality types, and there are many like this at Ghost Mountain. Rio and his wolf also have to abide by the desires of their third, the Sentinel. Fortunately all three like gummy bears.

Ends on a positive cliff hanger and I’m glad the resolution is going into another book. Those two need a lot of room for their story. I’m so looking forward to a tale with fireworks, gold to improve on the broken shards holding together and so much more.

As I read this series each book really gets to me. I like that with each book the pack heals a bit more, that there is more fun and family and all the younger ones know they can go to anyone for help, for support, for cuddles, something that wasn't true before Hayden, Kel and Rio came along. I also love how the larger pack world is taking such a strong interest in this pack, leaving Ghost Mountain to have some unusual allies and help that comes from all forms. Due to the large cast of characters, sometimes it was hard to keep up with who was narrating each chapter, but we needed to get all the points of views, needed to see where the trouble spots were, needed to see who all the helpers were going to be and needed to see what was going on at the base camp as everyone waited for Fallon's cub/chick. When the baby came...how great was it to read about her meeting everyone and how loved will this little one be. But the new baby was just the start, it created a bit of a domino effect and caused 3 pack members to freak out a bit and an alpha challenge. The fight at the end was horrible, maybe because of who the fighters were, maybe because you knew things could go very wrong if it wasn't handled with care. Luckily things were handled the right way and an unexpected thing happened. I really look forward to reading the next book, can't wait to see how the courting goes with this new potential couple.

I loved it, but the stream-of-consciousness style of the narrative doesn't work as well when you're not reading all the books in a string, because I lose track of who is who. But that's okay. I love the series, the world, the characters ... so I'm jumping into a re-read starting from the beginning.

This is a beautiful slice of life series. It's like going home after a long time away. I love it.

I really enjoyed the first few books in this series, but the stories seem to have disappeared and the author has gone overboard on making everything as sweet and cosy as possible. I quite like a little sweetness, but this is overwhelming and I’m afraid I just couldn’t face it after a few chapters.

I've loved every book of this series and this one was no exception. The Ghost Mountain pack is healing, but that doesn't mean they're quiet! A raven baby is on the way, other babies aren't all that far off, and some of the broken wolves may be coming home. The pack is torn between excitement and anxiety. Rio, the sentinel, has his hands (paws?) full, the elders and submissive wolves are trying to calm and distract the dominant wolves who burn with the need to protect the pups and pregnant women from unruly wolves and outsiders, and their Alpha has the Alpha of all Alphas looking over his shoulder. I've said it before, and it still holds true: no one writes characters like Audrey Faye. They feel like family and it's easy to get totally wrapped up in their world. If you like stories about shifters, love, loyalty, and healing from past abuse, with an undercurrent of tension thrown in (plus a surprising twist or two!) You'll love this book. But please note: there are a lot of characters and threads involved here, so it would make the most sense to read the series from the beginning to get the backstory of the pack. The series is on KU and is a wonderful read, well worth the time.

While I did have some tearjerker moments in the book, overall, this wasn't one of the better books in the series IMO due to the pacing. Although there was some new romance, most of it wasn't significantly introduced until the last few chapters. The first 80% of the book was just preparing for Fallon's birth with barely any relationship progress between all the pack members mentioned. Too much writing was spent on following who was making food and Reilly's reporting rather than the details of how everyone was encouraging the estranged members of the pack to rejoin and heal. Similar to the romance, most of the healing progress was done at the very end of the book.

Hopefully the next book focuses on relationship development for more of the book rather than minutiae of the pack lives.

Well, I haven't quite finished this installment yet... but I just had to share my feelings. I finished rereading the whole series for the 3rd time; and it just hit me...these books take me to my happy place. I'm not sure I even knew that I had one. Battling depression for way too many years before finding out that was what I was fighting, made things in life that might have been easier, extremely hard. Change is REALLY hard... routine is pretty necessary; reading has been a lifeline, and reading about change for other characters has made it a little easier. (Yes, for me, I spent over 40 years thinking of myself as a character, or a paper doll) The last part of my life has knocked me to my knees, from the loss of my soulmate, best friend, my parents, and almost one of my children... well, let's just say I understand how boxers feel standing up after what could/should have been a knockout punch. Then my health started playing games with me a little at a time, until the year before the pandemic, when I had something new every few months to deal with; that knocked the hell out of anything routine I'd scrambled to build. All of us know what the "year" of COVID-19 did to our lives, so I don't need to explain it. Reading about Ghost mountain, has finally opened my eyes some, and I actually am eager to see what else it will show me! I have chafed waiting for this book, but I don't think I was ready to read it until now. I needed to read it all again and be open to it's wisdom.

Funny, how a sort of urban fantasy series could teach me so much and still feed the need I have for fairy tales in my seventies. I hope that maybe there are others out there, who have little children deep inside of them, find these books. I'm sure there are others who need to know that they have a place in life, who maybe need to know that thinking of themselves is not selfish, but nurturing. I could go on, but I am trying to say all of this without any spoilers, and maybe, I'm saying most of it for my own honesty and to Audrey Faye, so that she knows how important her books are to me... sometimes the authors need to know that what they write is not just entertainment (though it is), but that it speaks deep into the souls of some people who might be too battered to tell them.

Feathers, and fur fly in this epic installation...

To prepare for the arrival of Sentinel by Audrey Faye I excitedly leapt back into the world of the Ghost Mountain pack, starting with the glorious 1st novel Alpha.

I laughed... again. I cried... again. And again I have been so thoroughly floored by the depth and truth in the amazing characters that make up this damaged but healing pack.

If the title isn’t a big enough clue, this book places the steadfast Rio at the centre of the Ghost Mountain packs shenanigans, and there are plenty of those.

Things are all stirred up with new life due, family nearing home and the teeth and claws of the pack facing one of their biggest challenges yet. But as always with Audrey’s books, Sentinel isn’t just about the dangers and trials the Ghost Mountain wolves face.

It’s about a pack that welcomes diversity, and makes space for each individual. Whether that be a giant polar bear, an angry mum, a soul who fears letting the fight go, or a baby chick who will want to yell really loudly.

These books make me believe that there is little that sock flavoured tea, peanut butter biscuits, or a hot soak with friends can’t fix. And if those things don’t solve your problems, the Ghost Mountain team will arm you with the support you need to do so.

Throw in a bunch of teenagers, cute pups, flowers, romance, cats, birds, bears, humans and of course wolves.... and there is nothing you can do but hold on and prepare for a wild ride!

I highly recommend that a new reader start with Alpha. This is not a stand alone book, and won’t make a lick of sense if you haven’t soaked up all the lessons from Reilly’s ever changing class rotation, and newsletters.

Again a masterpiece, thank you Audrey Faye!

Audrey Faye is back with the Ghost Mountain Pack.

Audrey Faye left the Ghost Mountain Pack for a while whilst she wrote the colour Purple trilogy which are worth a read themselves.
As always it is important to read this series in order and this, the 8th book in the series continues the recovery story of the pack.
We find out how the friends of the pack rally around as Fallon gives birth to the first baby of the recovery era. The climactic events of the book are disturbing as Milo Xander and Ruby return and it results in a dominance fight born out of trauma which is truly disturbing. I think this is the most nuanced book so far. Read it and enjoy

How can these stories keep getting better?

As I blow my nose for perhaps the 10th time during my reading of this story, I am reminded of why Audrey Faye is my favorite author.

I began reading more than 50 years ago, and in all that time I’ve had the same favorite writer whose books I’ve read over and over through the years… at least he was my favorite till I started reading Audrey Faye’s work.

I loved Robert Heinlein’s stories so much because in all his tales he tried to write about what was best in us. When I finished one of his stories, I stood taller and walked prouder because I felt inspired to step up to the examples his characters set.

When I finish an Audrey Faye novel, I am moved to finding a way to open up my heart.

It’s impossible to grow to adulthood in this life and not grow a thicker skin. We’re taught to develop and work toward goals so that we have accomplishments we are proud of and/or that help others. Very often, the second part of that plan gets a little mangled because the help that most of us end up accomplishing is for our immediate families… nothing wrong with that, but the stories that Audrey tells make me want to help so far beyond that…

She makes me want to stop all the polite mannerisms and rituals we enact that says we have to ignore the little ills that happen to and around us every day. Things like ‘here’s a little something I made for you “ when what we really mean is "I took the time and energy and thought it needed to do this thing for you because it mattered a lot & you matter a lot.”

Audrey makes me question why we develop such isolating and unproductive ritual in the first place. How did denying something or someone’s importance ever prove helpful??? and yet it’s how we conduct business every day.

We’ve separated ourselves from each other, and I think it’s why we’ve lost touch with how connected we actually are to everything and everyone around us.

Every time I read a Ghost Mountain book, I try to hang on to the memory of heart a little longer because we need to remember who and what we were meant to be.

If this book doesn't deserve a 5, I don't know what does.

Audrey is a quintessential story teller. I have never read a series in which the story line runs so seemlessly from one book to the next. How she manages this without it feeling like a cliffhanger every time the books are over, I have no idea. This book has what might be called a bit of a cliffhanger, but to me it feels like more of a pause in the story than anything else.

I'm usually sad when a book I'm reading is finished, but with Audrey's books I am also supremely calm and oddly satisfied. It's a good feeling. I like it.

I cannot emphasis enough just how important it is to read these books in order! You will only be extremely frustrated if you try to start with this one.

I highly, highly recommend this entire series. When I'm feeling really stressed out or depressed, rereading these books usually helps a lot. I adore them.

I discovered Audrey via the kindle unlimited program and I thank her for participating in it.

A joy to read

I love this series so much. I have now read it four times. There is so many twists that I just didn’t see coming. I have loved Rio and Bailey from the beginning but getting to know them more and experiencing them see each other properly was amazing. And the changes in some of the more broken pack had me in tears. I love how in each book the broken ghost mountain pack gets stronger and stronger. It is a pure joy to read and I can’t wait for the next one.

Sentinel - Rio's story
Rio's Sentinel has a lot of work to do for his new pack. The Pack is anxiously awaiting the arrival of Fallon's Chick. He has to contain the dominants. He worries most about Ruby, and Milo, who is still making his way home. Kendra and Finn are watching them.
Kennedy has laid claim to a young female Raven, Devlin. She has been working hard at being a good baby Alpha. She is watching Hayden, Reese, Tressie, Kendra and Adrianna. Learning from Kel and Rio. Helping any way she can to help the pack get ready for the new chick.
When Xander and Milo make it to the outside Raven Territory, Teesha, their human member, with a soul of a wolf, is the one who goes with Rio to make contact. He has strong teenage ties to the men.
She is already planning on taking Xander into her little Pack of the ones who are having a hard time staying in their wolf for any length of time.
The yet to be mated Alpha pair will add another pup to the pack.
Ivan and his bears bring a gift for the soon to be mama's of the Pack. Lissa makes him welcome in their Territory.
Ivan and his bears have found fulfillment in being the jailors of Eamon and he wants to help in a different way. Guarding Rennie, who has found comfort in Ronan's presence. while they await the arrival of the newest Dunn. If need he will offer a place for Ruby where she can safely work through her rage.
When little Flynn makes her way into the world. A powerful Dunn psychic. She meets her family and then her Alpha. Ruby and Milo need to protect defies reason and they are determined to keep the newest pack member from the new unknow Alpha's hands. Bailey has to step in to save them both, by issuing an Alpha Challenge.
Bailey loves Hayden, but her wolfs need to win may be a price their pack can't afford to pay. Hayden was ready.
Ruby and Milo are given a way to come back, and be the protectors they were born to be.
Rio's wolf lays claim to Bailey while Teesha dose the same to Xander.
Great series. Not a stand alone, series must be read in order, looking forward to the continuation of Rio and Bailey's story in Shield.

Another great book in this series

This series is very intense . I fell in love with this pack's story from the first book and I was addicted. This book was long awaited but it didn't disappoint. It delivered . Like all the others you can't help but get sucked into it and feel and see the words unfolding from the book. This series broke me as much as it lifted me up because that's what is about the rise of this pack after everything they've been through. And how their deep ties together are what bring them back on their feet cause they work as a whole .
I can't emphasize how much this author is good at making you go through the emotional turmoil her characters are going through. These books are heavily loaded with lots of sadness and hurt and PTSD and depression and self blame . I love that we get to see all different perspectives of the characters involved or at least as much as the author can insert of them. And although each of these characters are broken in one way or another they always try to be the hard rock for the other to stand on. This series is about the rise of this pack with the help of it's own members and others that came to love and feel responsible for allowing the tyranny and the gruesome events that bestowed this pack before Hayden became its Alpha.
This book concentrates on Rio this pack's sentinel who has a heavy weight on his shoulders with the obligations he has as a man, wolf and sentinel towards his pack and packmates. He puts so much pressure on himself but his pack are not blind and as much as he is their rescuer , they are his.
I loved the twist at the end. And I'm looking forward to see how things are gonna play out in the next book which I'm hoping won't be too long to release.

Unexpected New Twists and Turns

This book was definitely anxiously anticipated, the author took a break from this story line so when I saw that a story was available I was very excited.
There was alot of small side stories going on in this book so I wasn't mad at the cliffhanger ending because the author is very good at giving the follow up story in the next book.
The pack is expanding in more ways than one, which is exciting!
Now the reason for my 4 star review, is there are too many characters to keep up with, especially when you go a long time before releasing a story. Please create a character tree and brief description of each character so we can refer to it, or put it on your website. That would be very helpful because it's hard to remember everybody.
2nd downfall of this book is like most authors, they have so many thoughts in their head but when it translates to the written word it's often muddled and needs more description. There were some points in the book where I wasn't sure what was being talked about or why it was even in the book.
Overall great story and I think one of the better ones because it wasn't as heavy as most of them.
Definite read if you're a fan of the series.

So great but had room for improvement

There is so much I love about this series! Beautiful writing, fantastic characters, complex relationships and deep emotion really pull you in and keep you reading.

However... There are two problems that I struggled with more and more as the series went on.

1. The constant switching of perspective and voice just gets to be too much. I lost count of the number of times I would have to flip back a page or two to check the heading because I couldn't remember who was talking anymore. Each book needs to focus on more on the driving characters of that specific book, and not try to tell everything from every direction. It just ends up confusing the reader and diluting the impact.

2. These books are driven by relational and personal development, which is great. I loved the powerful introspection and rich connections. But a little more plot and a little less sentiment would be a better balance. It felt like the majority of each book was just hanging out with the pack, and only a small portion was actually driving anything forward.

I've finished my re-read and I has a sad. This book is relatively recent, so it will probably be a good while before the next one. This is not a happy thought!

I adore this series mostly because of the things other people don't like. It's almost all about relationships and character development, although I disagree that nothing happens. It's just that there's little violence/bloodshed. Although this is one of the few entries that has a little of it.

I just want to add that I'd like to see Kel get someone of his own. He both needs and deserves it.

A small example of the humour; I hope it makes sense out of context. Rio is the Sentinel in the title. Sentinel is a special class of pack member; they're psychic, outside of the power structure, and their advice is always taken seriously.
I haven’t been brave enough to ask Rio, just yet. He’s a little out of sorts. His wolf’s courting song has become the stuff of pack legend. Especially the part where his intended mate turned and ran herself headlong into a tree.

I enjoy this series immensely. The heart of the matter is the pack diversity and outright respect and love between the different groups. Whether they want it or recognize it! Great things come to pass and are revealed in this one. Again, the storyline seems to bring out emotions unexpected each time.
With this series it is vital to start with Book 1 - Alpha. Also to pay attention to the names at the top of each chapter. The multiple voices speaking throughout the book can get very confusing if you aren't alert to the changes. Lots of characters and it's important to recognize the names and contributions of each. All are important in the story. It seems this plot might continue further in the next book. While not a real cliffhanger, the next step in the relationships is definitely teed up to continue.

Lots happened in this book, just like all the others. Though not exactly what I was hoping to happen. Or I thought certain things would happen or be the focus that weren't really.

This book, based on the title, should be a little more skewed towards Rio's perspective, but it isn't really. Not in the same way as it was for the others when it was "their" books. I still feel like Rio is a bit of a mystery to me. He does his sentinel woo, keeping the pulse of the pack under his paws, and doing what he can to help everyone get steady. But sometimes the metaphors the author is trying to throw out there are a little confusing.

Regardless, I still *liked* it. Maybe less than the previous book, which I liked a lot. Maybe *because* what I liked about the last book didn't really come to fruition much in this book like I had thought it would. Hoping we get to those things soon!

I received this as a review copy in exchange for, well, providing a review.

I’ve been reading these as a reviewer ever since I first noticed the opportunity. I love the character growth and revisiting old friends that a series provides.

This book was a bit different. Actual stuff happened. A baby is born, several traumas collide at once. It feels a bit different. Good different since this is what we’ve been waiting for in the series.

Oh and fair warning, this one ends with a bit of a relationship cliffhanger. Not usual Audrey Faye style but rather necessary in this case.

It just came out this month and I’m already trying to figure out when to start stalking my inbox for the next one

Heartbreakingly beautiful

Amazon, as always, didn't tell me of this new book despite following the author so it was a complete surprise to discover it floating around in the next in the series suggestions. My heart feels like it's been through the wringer. I have felt all the emotions. Have no idea how the author makes me feel achingly sad and then make me laugh. All the kudos. I've never felt the synopsis quite captures this series, I went in thinking it was going to be a cliche paranormal romance and 8 books later I am astounded at the depth that I've encountered. Reading these is like reading a squee, a warm hug and a punch in the throat all at once.

Beautiful & Poignant

This book illustrates the soul in the deepest truest sense. It tugs at the heart with the beauty and struggle of rebirth & growth. I highly recommend this series, even to those who don't like the shifter genre. I think every family has a grandpa like Cleve, an auntie like Bailey, loving mothers, or sweet loving children, etc. Family is as individual as people are, and the "animal" half of these characters show the instinctual side that resides in all of us. There is joy and childlike silliness that had me laughing out loud as well, and that is a treasure to me.

Wonderful

I love this whole series! This is my second go through, this time reading one after the other so I could keep all the characters straight, and just enjoying all the diversity, love and caring that is created continually. The psychology is not wasted and I feel very fortunate to be able to read Audra's books because they pull you in, include you and take care of you. I can only pray that the world would become as kind as the books. I wait impatiently for the series to continue.

More please!

It's my fervent hope that there are many, many more stories to come in this series!
I am an avid reader, and can honestly say this is one of my all time favorite series. I just finished reading it for the second time, and caught some things I missed the first time.
I couldn't turn the pages fast enough when I first got caught up in the story.
I read it more slowly this time, savoring all the things I missed. Also just enjoying the characters and getting to know them better.
I am eagerly waiting for the next book!
Please keep them coming!

looking forward to the next one

Can these books get a family tree added. Keeping up with everyone after it’s been awhile since you’ve read early books is hard. I tried to pull forward the memory of Ivan and Fallons history and didn’t completely succeed. The book where grandpa Cleve came home is still my favorite, I adored my grandpa. This one was about the high emotions the birth of Finn and Fallon’s daughter stirs in pack members. Especially dominant ones. A dash of a shocking love connection or two was squeezed in at the end. That should be fun in the next book.

Tender, bold, and full of antics

If you like this series, you’ll love this book. It’s entirely wonderful to see Rip caught off guard in so many ways. The ending is precious and I’m practically falling on the floor in giggles and laughter with the mischief the next book promises will follow.

Thank you, Audrey Faye, for another book that gives us glimpses into belonging and caring that take so many forms, from tender to raucous. I can’t wait t reread them all now.

Absolutely lovely

I just love this series (read in order or you won't have a clue) and it is an absolute delight to visit the Pack again. Comp!ex characters and threads that wind the ongoing story together. Several resolutions in this book, but more storylines opened up. Ms. Faye says it takes an enormous amount of work to keep this series together and coherent, and I love her for putting in the effort and talent. Truly enjoyable.

One of my favorite series

I absolutely love this series. It is heartbreaking, heartwarming, full of of unexpected twists and turns, gives you the sense of adventure you crave yet isn't full of knock you dead violence. It has tender moments, love scences hinted at but it leaves most to your imagination and doesn't knock you in the head and with sex scenes burnt on the inside of your eyelids. It is fun to read and hard to put down.

Amazing series!

I have honestly read these too fast to leave a review before now. With respect to the author, trauma trigger alert! But in the best way. I have cried through these books, but I feel better not worse. I find myself wishing for a wolf pack to help me fix my broken places, but seeing others face theirs and doing the work to heal them has brought me just as much joy as of has tears. Hugs!!!

One minute you're reading about silly purple yarn and terrifying zucchini and the next, you're sobbing over the birth of a new pack member and what it means. Sentinel was the perfect addition to add to the series after Elder. I've found so much of myself in the shifters of Ghost Mountain pack. My heart grieves and celebrates joy with them and I'm so glad that I get to read about their journey to healing.
