The story covers all the different things a child might do throughout a day, get up, have breakfast, play with parents, go to the park go to bed. And every time the child sees something new it says "hello - " ie: "Hello Car", "Hello Seat", "Hello School" etc. Very reparative, however illustrates words for different things that you would see throughout the day, so very educational in that sense. The Illustrations are beautiful, and the last page with the child hogging mum and dads bed made me laugh out loud for how relatable it is.

A delightful look at an ordinary day in the life if a young girl - young enough to still be sleeping in a cot but old enough to stick her nose into everything. With a mum, dad and 3 big brothers that go to school, we get to see the household from getting up, morning routines, to picking the boys up after school, tea time, story time and bed time - and everything in between.
The text is very simple ad descriptive from the little girls point of view, 3 lines per page with a mix of individual illustration for each line - 'hello drumming" or larger drawings to show more detailed scenes.
I enjoyed engaging with a picutre book presenting a more traditional 2 parent family with mixed gender siblings that basically 'get on with each other". In this age of diversity and difference, and the need for children to 'see themselves' in the books they read, we seem to forget that some families di reflect this more traditional model and this too is normal. Notably though, illustrator Leila Rudge, has chosen to represent a mixed race family relationship with a range of skin colours across the family members. A nice and subtle celebration of multicultural assimilation into our society.
This book is a delight - boisterous, happy and with so mmch to talk about in the busy pictures. I love the cat!

The comfort of the close domestic scenes reminded me a little of the classic Peepo! by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, one of my all-time favourite picture books for the very young. Hello World is very Australian and modern, but covers the same timeless themes of family life.
It is a lovely counter to cynicism and bad news, and a terrific addition to Australian children’s bookshelves.

A little girl say hello to the world around her. A great repetitive read, which grabs the little ones attention - my Lil B who is 10months old loved it.
