Mr. Brown has a very important business job and carries a very important briefcase. He was always busy going to meetings and signing papers. But no matter how busy he is, he always makes time every day to go to the park for lunch with his important briefcase. On this day though, Mr. Brown didn’t notice a little baby grabbing his briefcase. Mr. Brown soon spots his briefcase heading away in a stroller. But before he can reach it, it gets hooked onto an ice cream cart. From the cart, it is soon snagged by a rider on the Ferris wheel. By the time Mr. Brown got through the line and onto the ride, the briefcase was carried onto a bus. Mr. Brown had lost his hat, his jacket and was quite the mess, but he borrowed a tricycle and headed after the bus. After all, his briefcase held very important things. Mr. Brown never caught the bus until it was already stopped at the school. He headed home with his briefcase held close. Once at home, he opened the briefcase to make sure all of his important items were still there. They were! But you may be surprised by what was in the briefcase.

Peacock takes a child’s view of business work in this picture book that is far more about the chase and the briefcase than Mr. Brown’s important work day. The wild chase around a delightful park and then through town is great fun with plenty of anticipation as the Ferris wheel turns or the bus chugs away. Peacock adds tension in the book, some of which is a marvelous surprise when the important contents of the briefcase are revealed.

The illustrations are warm and dynamic. The park is a delightful green, inviting and filled with all sorts of animals enjoying their day outside. There is a sense of community throughout the book, whether it is spending time together in a park or offering a tricycle to a grownup.

A busy book full of friendly animals and one very important briefcase. Appropriate for ages 3-5.

Betcha Can’t Guess What’s So Important!

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW ON MY BLOG: http://bookreadingtic.com/2020/12/18/... YOU!

Join Mr. Brown as his simple lunch turns into a as adventurous day while he tries to get his important briefcase back. He will let nothing stop him as he rushes to save his special bag. From trying to nab an ice cream cart, to attempting to snatch some high-flying balloons, to running to catch a school bus, he tries, but just fails to grab it. But he doesn’t give up!

Children will love this over-sized, hard-backed picture book full of cute, colorful illustrations that help tell the story of Mr. Brown’s quest to retrieve his case. They will giggle at the close calls he has when he almost gets his briefcase, but just misses it. Besides the cute story, this tale can be used as a learning tool about the importance of not giving up.

There is a fun surprise at the end with the revelation of what is inside—that will be sure to cause little ones to have a big smile. It is also a good reminder that the inside of something, OR someone, can be different than what the outside looks like. In other words, don’t judge a book by its cover because you might find something wonderfully, unexpected inside! This 5-star book will be enjoyed by children through 1st grade.

I had to read this book a few times to my young readers because they weren't really familiar with business people and offices, but they did love the large anthropomorphic cast of characters that Mr. Brown meets in one day and they did get the importance of getting back the things that are important and meaningful to a person, even if that person is represented as a tiger. Mr. Brown's day begins like any other, but when he goes to the park to enjoy his lunch, his day takes an exciting turn. From the baby elephant who snags Mr. Brown's briefcase in the park, to the school kids who end up with it on the school bus, and the chase on a tricycle to catch up with them, all we learn that the briefcase contains some very important things. This book has a happy ending, and the very important things that Mr. Brown carries in his briefcase really delighted my young readers, so that as we read the story over and over, they began to relate to Mr. Brown's plight. After all, who hasn't lost a loved object and gone to great lengths to find it? I love when we share a book, talk about it, and the light of understanding goes on for my kids, and I know they have a little more knowledge about the world. The mixed media illustrations are colorful and charming, and Mr. Brown really stands out in his blue pinstripe business suit and hat. There's lots to look at and talk about in each illustration, and anthropomorphic characters always delight my young kiddos.

Upon waking each morning, many of us have daily ambitions. Our choices hopefully aim us toward our desired direction. Although life being what it is, our paths are rarely in a straight line. They are a series of zigs and zags and steps forward and back and back and forward again.

Whether we reach our aspirations for the day, with the fading light and start of night, we all, eventually, crave similar things. Two autumnal titles draw our attention to this special time.

Some of those things we hold closest to our hearts are as varied and individualistic as we all are. Others are daily moments we share in common with a multitude of people. It is in those common hours we find what makes us a part of a larger whole. Mr. Brown's Bad Day (Candlewick Press, Nosy Crow. November 10, 2020) written by Lou Peacock with illustrations by Alison Friend is a comical and ultimately endearing day in the life of a distinguished tiger gentleman.

Mr. Brown is a VERY important tiger and his briefcase is filled with VERY important things. But one day, while eating his lunch in the park, his briefcase disappears! What follows is a series of accidental briefcase stealing with Mr. Brown in hot pursuit of his elusive briefcase. Which - don't forget - is filled with VERY important things. Will Mr. Brown ever reclaim his briefcase? And will we find out what the VERY important things inside are?

I enjoyed this! I was slightly confused by the sudden disappearance of Mr. Brown's jacket - but the author does address Mr. Brown's increasing dishevelment as the quest for the briefcase progresses. All in all, it is a fun and slightly silly story that will delight children. It would work well for a story time about tigers or business or lost things. You could pair it with Mr. Tiger Goes Wild by Peter Brown for a tiger storytime. Or for a lost things theme, try Agent Lion by David Soman.

Mr. Brown’s fun and friendly tiger face jumps right out at you and invites you into a chase to retrieve a briefcase that holds something very near and dear to him (be sure to pay attention to the few little jokes on the front cover.) What is in that case? This silly series of events offers just the right amount of tension and release to keep mind’s engaged and bellies laughing. Love diverse wildlife that makes up the cast of cute and animated characters. There’s a good dose of silly and light hearted fun and I appreciate the message that even grown-ups might have something to snuggle and feel comforted by. This is a lovely, simple way to take care of the self by paying attention to one's own emotional well being. I would add this also to the category of good self image. It is a wonderful thing to stay in touch with one's winner child.

Mr. Brown is a tiger with a very important job, so it only makes sense that his briefcase is full of very important things. On his daily outing to the park for lunch, a curious baby elephant takes off with Mr. Brown's very important briefcase! This sets off an unfortunate chain of events, and as the day goes on, Mr. Brown wonders if he will ever catch up with his briefcase. Thankfully, he's a very determined tiger! This book is a fun journey with an ending you may find unexpectedly sweet. I can assure you that Mr. Brown's briefcase is worth the trouble-- he knows what's important!

Mr Brown is a “very important businessman” with briefcase full of “very important things” but then a baby (elephant) takes the briefcase and his day gets worse from there as he has to constantly track down the briefcase. It’s cute to see how it gets transferred. However, I’m not a huge fan of anthropomorphic animals, especially when there really is no reason for it. Also, I can’t decide if I like what is revealed to be in the briefcase or not.

At first glance I thought this was Peter Brown's Mr. Tiger which I love. Nope, another well dressed tiger.
I wish this books showed more than told. Everything he did was explained...it would be more fun to discover it in the illustrations alone. Cute enough, and I'm sure some kids will enjoy watching the busy tiger search for his briefcase.

Fun and colorful pictures, along with a silly story make Mr. Brown's Bad Day a good choice for a bedtime tale. It certainly is silly to think of a tiger, one with a very important job, riding a tricycle around town in order to track down his briefcase. After all, it has some very important things inside it!

Cute characters and art, but the very adult-centeredness of it didn't feel kid-friendly. The end solved that, but the road to it felt confusing as a book for kids. Maybe this would work for little ones who are very curious about where Mom and Dad go each day and the adults' idea of what is "very important."

Oh no, Mr. Brown's got separated from his Very Important Briefcase, and now he's chasing it all over town! A cute "fortunately"/"unfortunately" structure and kid-friendly illustrations. And I love the darling twist at the end when you discover what is actually in the briefcase.

A cute story about Mr. Brown (who is a very important tiger) and accidentally loses his very important briefcase at the park. A great "cause and effect" story with an unexpected ending when the reader finds out what's really in his briefcase. Sweet and fun.

A very strange twist to this story...WHAT IS IN MR. BROWN'S SUITCASE? That younger children may get a kick out of.

This story is about the bad day Mr. Brown has when his very important briefcase is taken away and he must follow it throughout town.

This was familiar, like I feel like I've read a lot of books about animals at carnivals. But I liked it. Mr. Brown is a very busy business man, but one day his very important briefcase gets taken. I LOVED the ending 🥰. So sweet!
