Yes! This is so adorable and perfect for the youngest readers to start thinking beyond recycling and consider ways to reduce and reuse. Yes, it's fairly simplistic but I think it does a good job of getting the ideas and conversation started. The lift-the-flap format is great here because you see the garbage (for example, old jam jar ... old jug... old cans) but "WAIT! Don't throw that away!" says our young environmentally-conscious supergirl, you can turn it into.... [lift the flap] (vase for flowers... birdhouse... musical instruments) Positive and upbeat while delivering an important message.
This book is a perfect introduction to recycling and reusing waste materials in our house. The creative engagement tool, lift-the-flap, attracts young kids to learn about the topic more. Moreover, all the reused waste materials in the book are the ones that familiar to children - some food containers and clothes. These objects help kids to understand that many things that they always use can change into other useful things. The book also uses a "superhero" figure to give children the signal that recycling and reusing is a "noble" action to do. The illustration of this book also plays an important role to "silently" establish the benefit of recycling to the family as well as to the world community. Children will learn that "action is louder than speak" when they know that the book that they read came from reused cardboards. Overall, this book can serve as a tool to teach our children about self and world cleanliness, which is a vital aspect when living in this "old" world. "Plastic is one of the most persistent pollutants on Earth. It's made to last - and it does, often for 400 years or more" and it "creates greenhouse gas emissions that are contributing to the warming of our world"(WWF). So, this book is totally comprehensive, attractive, and worth it.
I loved so many aspect about this book. The illustrations were bright and very well done and I also loved how this book had interactive flaps on the pages that revealed new things you can make out of trash. I thought that would be a good way to keep the kids engaged. I also loved that this book was made out of 100% recycled paper!
I would use this in my classroom as a way to promote the importance of reusing and recycling at home and in the classroom. I want to show them that something you might deem as trash could really be transformed into something quite beautiful if you have the imagination!
i love the entire little green books series. They provide a platform to discuss serious topics with infants and toddlers that many shy away from. Plus offer the interactive flap lifting to keep the curious little ones engaged.
Very cute book that talks about recycling and reusing common, everyday items after you're finished with them. There are flaps for kids to life up to see how the item could be used again and my boys loved taking turns doing this. Liked the ideas for reusing such as using a milk jug as a bird feeder. This would be a good book to read to younger students during Earth Day/Earth Week activities.
I think the illustrations are visually stimulating and varied. The text has a nice, repeated unifying theme. However, my baby wants to rip off the lifting flaps. Perhaps that will pass as he ages. Also, I think the texts promotes a little too much reusing. At some point your apartment would be too full if you save every bit of trash!
Super cute little cardboard board book with ideas for reusing cans, bottles, boxes. My only qualm is that one of the suggestions is to reuse cans for food to make musical instruments. Those things are SHARP. Not a good idea.
It's a perfect book for kids up to age 6 to introduce them to the idea of reusing items :) And it's made of 100% recycled content! Really great illustrations and printed with soy ink. The flaps are what make it really great since kids at that age are wanting to interact with their environment :)
Such a fun little book about recycling and repurposing items. The flaps inside this book are very adorable too. Great way to introduce recycling to young kids.
