Bella Rose

Life is a series of little moments. From the rising sun to the sweet smell of freshly cut grass to the discovery of a beautiful baby girl. Abandoned like forgotten garbage, it is up to me to keep her safe, even if it’s from her crime boss grandfather. I’m in a constant state of fear and anxiety with each passing day. Until Pennington James breaches my world and my soul.

Pennington

When my grandfather left me his house and asked me to take care of the home next door, he failed to mention anything about the woman who owns it. From the first time I met her, I knew BellaRose is beautiful with a caring heart. It’s that caring heart that has her hiding from the dark underbelly of our town. Keeping Bella safe is the perfect cover for my investigation. Falling in love with a baby and her savior is the last thing I wanted, but the heart is the ruler of love and mine wants Bella.

This was such a good story. Filled with suspense, romance, and a bit of underground criminial activities??

Bella was out walking one day when she found a baby. Taking the baby home she later found out that the baby could be the grandchild of a criminal. And he was offering a reward for the return. So she decides to leave town and go to a safe place. Miller Creek, Texas, a place she’s been going to for years. And her next door neighbor is like a grandfather to her so she knows she and the baby will be safe. But when she gets there the house is now owned by the man’s grandson, Pennington. And Penn is a undercover DEA Agent on assignment…

I loved this quick read. The chemistry between Bella and Penn was HOT. And I thought they were perfect for each other. You will get hooked with this story form the first page and wont stop reading till you get to the end. A fast paced excited story. My first by this author and will definitely be checking on more of her books 😊

The premise is a bit odd, so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I loved every minute of this story. Bella finds an infant abandoned in a dumpster and something tells her not to turn the baby over to authorities so she flees with the child instead. She meets a sexy stranger and they develop a friendship that blossoms into something more. Penn and Bella are both great characters. We meet a bunch of their friends here and I really truly hope the author was setting up another book in the series with the final interaction between two of the secondary characters.

I can’t get into much detail without being a spoiler but this book is worth your time. This story has everything: suspense, romance, heat. Both the author, Hollis Wynn, and the Everyday Heroes series are new to me but I couldn’t put this book down and devoured it in one sitting so I’ll definitely be checking out more from both.

**I won’t say too much as I don’t want to give anything anyway - so no spoilers here!**

This was my first Hollis Wynn book and I really enjoyed it. I liked the way it was fast paced and full of action.🔥

Pennington, or Penn, was dreamy! A delish DEA agent in town to take care of a house he was left when his Grandpa died. That’s when he meets BellaRose and Ainsley.♥️

BellaRose or Bella, has been through so much in her life. Grief, loss and so much anxiety.

Meeting each other was kismet. They are perfect for each other. It was a beautiful love story that had me crying at the end.♥️

Thank you, Hollis 🙏🏻📚♥️

I'm not sure this book sparked a lot of emotion out of me like I normally like but I did enjoy the story. It was fast paced from the very beginning and never really slowed down. I finished this one in a day which lately is quite the feat as I just haven't been reading as much so that should say something. The story definitely got my attention and held it until the very end.

The writing is simple which I think helps keep the pace of the story pretty steady throughout. The characters are enjoyable and the secrets big. I think anyone who is looking for a good beach side read will enjoy this one.

OMG! This book is off the freaking charts good. The suspense, the characters, the chemistry, the plot! Absolutely freaking AMAZING!!!! I without a doubt loved it, Penn and BellaRose are exactly what each other needs as BellaRose’s world is about to turn upside down and she has no clue. You’ll have to read this phenomenal story to find out exactly what happens and see how amazing Pennington is during all of it.

Let’s just say, I need me a Penn because… SWOON😍

This is my favorite book by this author!!!!!
5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I can’t wait to see what comes next from Hollis! ❤️

4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ I have yet to meet an acquaintance or friend of the Malone families who I haven't loved. Pennington James is no different. Hollis Wynn has written a perfectly gentle yet strong hero that fits our heroine in every way.
BellaRose is independent strong willed, and by her own admission not usually overly emotional until she starts hanging around Penn. But once they meet as neighbors at the lake where she spent time with her deceased parents and Penn just became the owner of his grandfather's home next door well Bella quickly discovers something about Penn makes her feel safe and vulnerable, and we weepy.
And let's not forget the surprise garbage we find one sunny morning. That's right someone put a baby in the garbage.
Can Bella be a caregiver, can Penn handle the emotional woman next door, and will the three of them be able to survive the dangers surrounding them on all sides?
Along with the danger and excitement we get to meet great side characters and friends. Laken, Bella's BFF is like a sister she's been with her through every tragedy. And Penn well he's got his team and friends like Ford and he's also got old friends like Grant he's known since he was young.
I spied at the end to that maybe there will be a story for Ford 😉

So grab a copy and enjoy.

BellaRose Rogers is out walking one day when she hears the cry of a baby. She finally realizes that the sound is coming from a trashcan. Horrified, she lifts the lid and looks in, and finds a baby. She obviously can’t leave the baby there, so she picks it up and takes it home. Later on, she discovers that the baby is potentially the missing grandchild of a horrible criminal. She decides that it’s her responsibility to keep the baby as long as possible, to keep her away from this horrible man. Since he has offered a reward for the return of the baby, she feels like she needs to leave town, and go someplace safe. That place is a house on a lake in Miller Creek, Texas. She’s been going there for years, and the man next-door is like a grandfather to her. However, she’s in for a surprise, as the person who now owns it is the man’s grandson, Pennington. Penn is charged with taking care of his property and hers. Penn is a DEA agent, and is there on an undercover assignment, trying to clean up the town of Miller Creek.

It doesn’t take long for Penn and BellaRose to develop a friendship. That’s actually one of the best parts about this book. It’s not an insta-love story, but rather a ‘let’s get to know each other before we hop into bed’ story, and that just seems more authentic. There is a low-level tension at the start, and then it quickly ratchets up, once she finds the baby. The pacing is well done, and it really makes the reader want to hang on for the ride…And it’s a wild ride! The author provides a clear set of conflicts, so each character’s motivation is clearly aligned with these conflicts. The story is well-written, and well-edited. It includes an amazing ending, that will leave readers feeling content.

No matter how I write this review I feel like I'm going to spoil it for everyone. So, I'm not going to write a "synopsis" for this one for fear of giving everything away. You'll have to pick this one up and read BellaRose and Pennington's story for yourself. This book will have you on the edge of your seat from chapter one until the very last page.

If you loved the Everyday Heroes series by K. Bromberg, you will love diving into the world she created and the fresh stories that these authors bring to the table. Hollis Wynn really brought a fantastic suspenseful story to the world of Everyday Heroes. The chemistry between Bella and Penn was off the charts, the plot left me guessing, and there are even a couple cameos by Mr. Grant Malone. As I am new to Wynn's work, I am very excited to dive more into her work and can't wait to see what she gives her readers and fans next.

Bella was taking a walk one day when she came upon an abandoned baby so she took that sweet baby home. Come to find out, that baby may or may not be a criminal's grandchild, and has an award out for any who finds her. Bella decides to take that baby to a safe place, Miller Creek Texas, where her neighbor is like a grandfather to her, and knows that he'll help keep them safe. Little did she know that when she got there, his grandson now is her neighbor making things a tad more complicated. Pennington, aka Penn, who has some things going on himself so we get a double edged suspense sword which delighted me to no end. The twists are coming in hot while I was on the edge of my seat waiting for different things to happen so I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Hollis Wynn totally gave us an exciting read that I couldn't get enough of, a hero & heroine who I loved, and everything else in between so I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! {4.5 STARS}

Hollis is quickly becoming a One-Click Author for me. She really brought it with Aegis.

Hollis's spin off was an amazing addition to the Everyday Heroes world. If you are a fan of romantic suspense then look no further.

Penn is an intense character just as you would expect a DEA to be. Penn gets way more than he bargained for when he receives an assignment to assist in cleaning up Miller Creek. He also gets quite the surprise when he agrees to take care of his Grandfather's home. Can he be a safe haven for BellaRose? The more secrets that are revealed the more he wants to protect her.

BellaRose is also such an amazing heroine. She is caring and insightful while also seeking comfort and safety. What she did not expect was Penn. Fate definitely has other plans for her when a baby is discovered and needs protection. Be ready for one amazing ride. The chemistry between BellaRose and Penn is incredible.

Be ready to be on the edge of your seat and experience ALL of the emotions.

I highly recommend this book. I do hope there will eventually be more.

Bella Rose is out for a walk and finds a baby in the trash. She brings the little one home and calls her bff who helps her out. Deciding somehow in those few hours that she was keeping her. In walks her new neighbor Penn, who is her previous neighbor's grandson.

Unbeknownst to her, Penn's grandfather has been looking out for her a long time. Now Penn has been left with the task, but more than that develops. As the two get to know each other. When Penn learns her secret he keeps it and protects her and little Ainsley. The two have a sweet chemistry and the little one just adds to the story. A great read of love, and intrigue.

Hollis brought the suspense, drama, and the tender moments in AEGIS with Penn and BellaRose. I love the world of Everyday Heroes that K. Bromberg brought to life and the author's that have put their spins on it like Hollis have made me love it even more. Penn and Bella are strangers at first but once these two met you can't deny the connect these two have.
Bella is just a teacher about to take a moment of summer fun but fate and a baby change all that. Hiding and protecting this child is what any god fearing woman would do and my heart pull for her. Bella past is heartbreaking and makes you want a bright future for her.
Penn works for the DEA and always goes by the book but with Bella is willing to break the rules and follow his heart. Penn's grandpa Owen was a protector for Bella but when he dies he leaves that task for Penn. Secrets are revealed, bad guys will show their faces, and love comes when you less expect it especially a epic love like Penn and Bella's.

Aegis draws you in from page one & doesn’t let go of your heart or adrenalin until the very end! An unexpected suspenseful love story and a big departure from Wynn’s normal niche—and yet, all the reasons you love her writing are still felt in every word and every motivation. There are some liberties and unethical choices the author has taken for the sake of the story and may cause you to pull your hair snd scream “Why?!” 😆 but just sit back, open your mind, and go along for this fast-paced, exciting ride. When you read it’s epic conclusion you’ll understand the why and won’t be left wanting. Because this is a complicated love story involving deceit, secrets, divine timing, and a love that could only be fated from the start.

First book of this Every Day Heroes but not my first from Hollis, I’ve read every single one of her books and she seriously surprises me more with each one, she is one of a kind!

And this book first of all where can I get me a Penn lol

Just loved the chemistry, loved both of them so much, the story was freaking amazing, the suspense was killing me seriously, this was not what I was used to reading from Hollis but she knocked it out of the ball park.

Aegis is a fast paced read full of suspense and intrigue. BellaRose and Pennington are perfect for each other. These two meet when Bella decides to go to her parents lake house and Penn is the caretaker at the cabin next door. He's intrigued by her and wants to know more about her. She likes him and thinks he hot. When he helps her out, this is when things get real.

Wow!

Talk about convoluted and suspense!
One crime lord, one crooked Sheriff and dept, one killer heroine who decides her way is the way, and one DEA hero who is perfect for the heroine!
This really was a story within a story within a story. Truly, keeping up was not a problem, just the bombs kept falling! Bella and Penn were such cool characters! Penn is DEA and realistic, not it's by the book and only the book! Bella is a surprise, an enjoyable one! She promises her best friend to do the right thing, and she does, then goes to her vacation home, left by her parents. At this point, things become interesting and frankly, rather strange for Bella, but she is capable and takes nothing!
Honestly, not just convoluted and suspenseful, but enjoyable, I loved these two characters, and their family histories! The histories mean a great deal in the book and you wove them in so well!

Fast paced read with a lot of intrigue. Lots of secrets come to life.
Many of the decisions made by the main characters, I wasn't really a fan of. They didn't make a bunch of sense to me. But, everything seemed to work out and, I really enjoyed the ending of the book.

ARC….

What does a girl do when she is dubbed “Trash Can Momma” by her best friend?

BellaRosa seems to meet Penn at wrong time but she makes it oh so right in the simplest way she knows. A little suspense and lots of humor with baby fumbling, Aegis pulled me in quickly! Bella is hiding out at her parents’ summer home when she meets her former neighbor’s gorgeous grandson and he starts helping her fix the house up, while doing his own renovations, and take care of the baby she unwittingly found but fell in love with anyways.

Just imagining this man holding a baby will make your heart explode, along with other parts 😉. A quick mystery and suspense pushes it along until the very end!

Loved Hollis’ recent addition to her amazing library!!

Penn and Bella – I honestly didn’t know what to expect with this book especially when I started reading it but as soon as a baby got involved and then a supposed escape from the situation. It definitely piqued my interest for sure.

Penn is intriguing and I love his protectiveness of Bella for sure. I like how both characters felt relatable and a steady pace within the story definitely kept my interest. It was interesting to see the twist and I really did think it worked well.

Definitely would read more by this author for sure.

Aegis is a contemporary cis M/F romantic suspense with a heroine that inherits a summer home in a quaint small town from her parents. During her summer break as a teacher, she goes to the house to try and make new memories there. She also happens to have a baby with her — a baby that is the grandchild of a known criminal. The hero is a DEA agent who inherits the surrounding property from his grandfather and becomes the caretaker in his grandfather's stead.

The premise of this had a lot of promise. Wynn's voice is clear and easy to read. The plot here is just too expansive for the word count. So many big concepts that would create a lot of external conflict get treated as though they're nothing — like, the heroine literally has a criminal's baby and they don't get worried when he shows up in this small-af town clearly looking for said baby. There's also a whole plot around the heroine's parents and who they really were which also gets waved away. Combined with the fact that the romance isn't really that romantic (there's almost no chemistry or internal emotional development with the characters, individually or as a couple) and overall it just felt like this book was a letdown.

I'm still interested in trying more of Wynn's work. I could see her doing well with a larger word count, or maybe just doing straight contemporary versus contemporary romantic suspense. This is part of a shared world, so it's entirely possible that Wynn's work may seem different here.

“The ironic part is I rarely cry—about anything.” - Bella pg 53, Aegis by Hollis Wynn. This part is fine because I read fanfiction so I’m used to inexperienced authors/writers. One piece of advice I can give about this would be to show me not tell me something. This tidbit feels forced because I’m only on page 53 and Bella has cried multiple times. If her crying is unexpected to her, I wish I could see that in the writing. If she is an emotional woman, cool. But her crying, not reacting to it, then dropping that just feels conflicting. Then, throughout the book, she cried constantly. I probably wouldn’t have been bothered by it if not for this one line. Because of the line, all I could do was take notice of every single time she cried.
I’m not a huge fan of when a serious discovery is going on and still, the characters are distracted by the “hotness” of each other. When reading, it pulls me out of the moment and makes me roll my eyes at how superficial the characters are. I get that’s just who Bella and Penn are, but Bella is trying to be a responsible adult who just found a dumpster baby and is laying low. She just got a major bombshell about her parents and is still “His hotness is totally wrecking me,” (pg 64).
I find the progression of the relationship to be stilted and awkward. I’ve read romances before where the characters fall for each other in a matter of days and it felt more organic. I just don’t believe Penn and Bella. It’s hard to explain exactly what it is, but their relationship feels like when an author uses “suddenly”. I don’t feel the chemistry, just “suddenly” they are crazy and need to touch. It’s particularly strange because this isn’t a supernatural universe. There is no magic pushing the two together. The characters don’t even really mesh for me.
I stuck around through the book, hoping with all I had that it would get better but it just didn’t. I know I said Bella and Penn’s relationship felt sudden, but so did the whole book. It was one big story of “...and suddenly.” I wasn’t impressed by this book. I can’t say I’d ever recommend it to anyone. The characters weren’t even likable. I just… I didn’t care for any of it.

This is a wonderful addition to this amazing series and is Bella and Penn’s journey. Bella is out walking one day when she comes across a baby that has been left abandoned, and she takes it home with her, only to find out that this may the grandchild of a criminal who is offering a reward for the child. Bella takes the baby and leaves town to go to the place she has been going to for years, and she knows that the grandfather next door will keep them safe and protected. Only problem being when Bella arrives there, she finds out that the house next door is now owned by Penn, who is an undercover DEA agent. The chemistry between them is combustible and undeniable. This is a well written story which is fast paced, and filled with suspense, intrigue, conflict, danger, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Oh, this story is full of suspense like no other. Bella Rose is just minding her business while out and hears a cry. When she finds a baby she can't believe it and what's worse is when she finds out whom the baby belongs to she will do what she can to keep it. When she goes off the beaten path to hide and protect them both she doesn't realize she's about to get more than she bargains for. The neighbor's grandson drops a bomb and her heart will hurt. But sometimes old men whom you think of as a grandpa will drop a bomb so large from the grave you have no idea how you will survive. Aegis is trying to piece together why he is so drawn to the neighbor. He's law enforcement and is at the cabin to work and relax. Now he's watching over the beautiful woman and her baby. When the truth comes out about who she is and who the baby is well you won't see it coming. Find out if they all survive the outcome.

A cute addition to the series. Loved this Insta love story. BellaRose's life gets turned upside down when taking a walk results in her finding a baby abandoned in a trash bin and to find out the baby is the granddaughter of a drug lord. She decides to hide out at her family summer house to keep the baby safe. There she runs into Pennington the owner of the property her summer house is on grandson. There is an instant connection between these two. I enjoyed BellaRose and Pennington's story. It was entertaining from start to finish. Not only do you get their romance story but then there are a couple twist that thrown in and discoveries uncovered from the past. The ending also ends in another discovery that seems we all be getting another story that I look forward to reading.

I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review.

When BellaRose comes across a baby that has been abandoned her only instinct is to protect her even if that means hiding her to keep her safe. She decides to leave town and spend some time at the home that holds so many happy memories but finding out her neighbor is Penn instead of his grandfather was a complicated she wasn’t expecting.

Penn is drawn to BellaRose and her daughter from their first meeting and those feelings and the need to protect them only become stronger as secrets are revealed, and the danger escalates.

Intrigue, surprises, romance and two characters determined to do the right thing make this an entertaining story you don’t want to put down.

I absolutely loved this book!!! Bellarose is out one day and finds a baby crying in a trash can. She takes her home carrying for her and then sees the worst of them all on the news’s claiming his granddaughter has been taken. Knowing how bad of a man he is she cares for the baby and goes to the family cottage where she gets a shocking surprise. Not only is there a hot new man in charge of the land but she finds out sooooo much about her parents and their deaths. I highlyu recommend this book to everyone! It’s funny and sassy and suspenseful!!

I don't really care for the writing style although the storyline has promise.
It's also clear the author has no clue about babies even tho one of her characters is supposed to be a pediatric nurse lol
She also doesn't keep facts the same throughout. Her best friend's husband's name changes a few times

". Missy—you’re extraordinary with edits. I hesitate to even wonder what this book would have been like without you."
The author actually has an editor? Hope she's not being paid because she royally sucks lol

What a great story!
I always love when babies are involved, but in this case even more since not only the baby was abandoned but she might also have ties with the criminal world. Bella Rose is determined to keep her safe and as luck would have it she finds Pennington as her neighbour.
The story is fast paced and got me hooked right off! It has everything you need to keep you entertained and hooked until the end!

This was a book that I wanted to like more than I did. I liked the story but I thought there were big gaps in information that could have made it even better. It had a good amount of twists, but because of the way everything was kind of breezed over, it missed the mark. I liked both the H and the h, and I loved the side characters.

Overall, this was a quick read that could have been expanded into a great book.
