Special Agent Margaret Lark is nothing if not tenacious. She’s tracked aliens on Earth for years and now she has the Rose Syndicate in her sights. Then she meets Erlend, the mysterious and undeniably sexy half human, half Khargal. He might be just the one she needs to get the job done, if she can keep his dark side in line.
Erlend has other ideas.
Determined to avenge the brutal murder of his father, Erlend has vowed to hunt down every known member of the Rose Syndicate, the ones responsible, and he doesn’t care who gets hurt. From the moment he lays eyes on Special Agent Lark, Erlend knows she is his destined mate. She’s irresistible, but can he trust her to help him eliminate the Rose Syndicate, once and for all?
This is an OK sci-fi alien romance, with an OK couple, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3.0 stars from me.
Erland was OK, but I thought it was weird that he knew Meg was his mate -- yet he didn't tell her, and just assumed she would realize it on her own. I also thought it was a bit unlikely that he would have agreed to follow Meg's rules about not killing members of the Rose syndicate. After all, he had sworn revenge against them for killing his father.
Meg was OK too, but I thought her instalust for Erland was just strange. He worked for her, and she knew it was unprofessional to have sex with him -- but she kept doing it anyway. Anyone who cared about her career as much as she did would have tried really hard to resist, and it didn't seem like she really tried much at all.
I also thought the ending to this book was really weird. It introduced the story for a new character, and then just ended. There is no book for that new character yet, though, and I don't know if there will be.
For those who care, this book does contain some steamy sex scenes -- which is typical of books from this genre.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
Erland is only half Khargal and decided to stay behind after the other Khargals returned home as his father is dead and there would be no one or nothing for him to go there for. Besides he has unfinished business to take care of. Business in the form of the Rose Syndicate. This is a like a wrap up book for the series, but with that epilogue I do wonder and hope there could be more or a spin off series. We briefly met the couple from this book earlier in this series so I am glad they got their own happy ending
I loved this additional book in the series and hope there is more to come. Erlend wants to kill every last member of the Rose Syndicate for killing his father. Erlend's father was Khargal and mother was human. When he meets the Special Agent Lark (or Meg as she likes to be called), Erlend knows she is his mate. They go through a lot, being shot at and all, to finally get their happily ever after. Lots of action, steamy romance and very entertaining. Hard to put down.
They’re gargoyles! Yes, w wings and the ability to turn to stone! This is a great story, so much going on. And when gargoyles fall in love? Sigh…oh, yes! 😍
