This was a valuable resource for classroom management. The principles are intuitive and understandable, especially when you start with an attitude of love and a desire to build relationships. In the second half of the book, when the authors started discussing the details of implementation of the Love & Logic program, it seemed like they rewrote what they had said previously, which led me to scan the last third of the book.
Easily 5 stars. As a teacher myself, this book is excellent in efficiently dealing with discipline problems. Will refer to this often, especially in post covid teaching.
Finally done. I am not a fan of how this book is set up. It was difficult for me to understand the big picture. My copy is 27 years old, so maybe they have improved its structure since then.
There are some good takeaways like 1. Give 2 good choices 2. Let the kids do the thinking
Actually the more I reflect on the book, the less I like it. They should modify it into a short pamphlet with the key points and some examples.
The original edition of Teaching with Love and Logic is repetitive, dated and filled with fluff. All that being said I still got a lot out of reading it. I learned the importance giving choices to share control and how to let the natural consequences do the teaching.
If I was reading this edition again I would skip chapter 5 as it’s the most dated and chapter 14 as it’s more for administrators.
This was full of fantastic information. I was thrilled to see so much of what I already tried to practice included but just as excited for all of the new techniques and questions to add to my toolbox.
Every teacher should read this. It was my number one source for classroom management when I taught and it’s been my number one source as a parent. Blessings upon blessings for this book.
