The Shattered Trilogy #1

Daughter of Shattered Skies

Rate this book
Before the Timeline divided Ellorhys between day and night, the Imperial Emperor and Empress ruled justly and with great love for all the kingdoms in their realm.

Under eternal night skies, Imperial Princess Issaria Elysitao is reared by her only remaining family. With Aunt Cate's guidance, Issaria is urged toward conquest of the Daylight cities responsible for the regicide, but she cannot help to wonder if the curse meant to protect her was not the very thing her parents banished long ago. As Issaria tests the restrictions set forth by the Empress Regent, it becomes obvious that there is more to her magic than even she realized. Something strange lurks within, making her powers unstable. As she approaches her eighteenth birthday, it speaks to her and promises more than vengeance.

North of the Timeline, Prince Calix prepared to inherit Hinhallow from his warlord father on one condition: he must eliminate the growing threat of the Imperial Princess before she can receive her crown from the Evernight Witch and unleash darkness upon the rest of Ellorhys.

Worlds collide and Issaria is forced to flee across the continent. With deadly foes on the horizon, Issaria is left with no options and less time. She must find the origin of all magic, the fabled Vera Caelum, and awaken her powers before she loses herself entirely.

UPDATE: it has been a few weeks and I still can’t stop thinking about this book and how much I loved it. You NEED to read it.

Okay let me just saw WOW!

I was excited to read this book, but I could not have predicted just how invested in it I would become!

A story of power, betrayal, and secret identities? Yes please! If I didn’t already know this book is the author’s debut novel, I never would have guessed. It reads like that of an author who has spent years honing their craft!

Issaria is an incredible protagonist. I really loved her character development from demure princess to strong, badass warrior princess. I loved the devotion she had to her people and her moral compass throughout the book.

Elon is adorable and has wonderful boy next door vibes. His protective instincts and love for Issa are so wonderful. I really enjoyed his character development. I really can’t wait to see where his character goes!

Prince Calix may be one of my new book boyfriends. He reminds me of the bad boy with a heart of gold, I just love it. Issaria and Calix also have the best first meet.

This book is full of action and adventure, but it also takes many unexpected turns. I am so excited for the next book in the series!

I think this book should be a must read for fans of Jennifer Armentrout, Sarah J Maas, Elise Kova, and Danielle Jensen.

Thank you Sara for my eARC of the book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

As most of you know, I am a HUGE fan of the Fantasy, but even more so fantasy with royalty.. and this book DELIVERED.

Daughter of Shattered Skies is action-packed and laced with magic, betrayal, power, and secrets.

Sara showcased her talent at entwinining action and adventure with romance and political intrigue.. all while keeping me turning the page and wanting more. I still cannot believe this a debut novel.

Even with incredible world building, at it's core.. Daughter of Shattered Skies felt like a character driven story. Character building is another highly important aspect with any story I am reading. Without it, a book will never have much of a lasting impact, and Sara did not disappoint.

Do yourself a favor and pick up Daughter of Shattered Skies and support this incredibly talented human!

Overall rating 5/5

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book!
I love having kindle unlimited, because I have read some amazing indie books on there, but unfortunately I've also read some real doozies. I tend to go in not expecting much with new to me authors. The blurb didn't really appeal to me, but the author is pretty active on bookstagram, and so I decided to give it a go.
And this is so damn good! It could easily be a traditionally published book, it just isn't. Some of it runs towards the darker side, but nothing overly detailed. (It's mentioned or happens off page, so it's left to your imagination to determine exactly what happens.)
The MC Issaria truly goes through all the trials and tribulations worthy of an epic adventurer. Honestly, she gets put through her paces and lands just shy of torture. I did find her name changes to get confusing in some parts though, especially when she was referred to by more than one of them in the same paragraph.
There's the conflicting love interests like in Poison Princess where you don't really know who to root for (though neither are morally grey characters. Yet.) magic, reincarnated gods, amazing razed lands, and some beautiful sisterhood building. There's a good cast of female characters (not just a best friend and male love interests), a very different fantasy world, and some darker themes like human trafficking and slavery.
All in all it was a very well rounded story with a very likeable MC and plot. Will definitely continue with this one!

4.5 / 5 star rating ))

I want to start off this review by saying thank you so much to Sara DeLaVergne for sending me an e-arc of this book. It exceeded my expectations.
I came into this book honestly not knowing much as I looked at the cover and then signed up for an arc! It is so stunning!
The beginning of this book really hooked me in I couldn’t stop reading. I LOVED the scene in the woods at the start it is probably my favourite part from this book!!
When I came to the middle I will say it got a bit slow but then quickly got interesting again.
I loved seeing how quickly Kai made friends and the strong bond between them all. Also how strong she is to do what she did (I won’t say anymore otherwise I fear I’ll spoil it). When they arrived at the palace I was like
|| SPOILER in the brackets || ( “yes yes Issaria and Calix will recognise each other, then when he didn’t I was like omg noo what’s going to happen now but then she said blaze and yeah” ) || Spoiler is over now ||
The ending AHH. IM SO HAPPY I DEFINITELY SHIP
|| Spoiler kind of in brackets || (I ship Calix & Issara 3000) || Spoiler over ||
Also Calix is joining my long list of book boyfriends 😫
The epilogue was also really good!!
Overall I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it especially if you liked girls of paper and Fire it reminded me a lot of that. Also if you like magic, hidden identities, betrayal and a dark haired prince you’ll 1000% LOVEE this book!

Rating: 5 stars!

First and foremost, I'd like to thank the author of this lovely book (Sara DeLaVergne) for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review :)

Daughter of Shattered Skies is a whirlwind of romance, magic, adventure, and power. It explores a world divided into day and night, where tension and conflict are bursting from every corner.

The main characters are fantastic. Princess Issaria is my personal favorite, because her dynamic nature creates a sense of movement and resilience to the story. The sense of responsibility she feels to save her people is incredible as she takes the identity of “Kai”, but still she forges on. Elon also captured my heart with his endearing personality, and Shairi surprised me with her role in the story.

Be afraid, but do it anyway.

(Also, Prince Calix is definitely going onto my book boyfriend list. He’s got such a nice vibe.)

description

The quality of writing surprised me! There were some minor grammatical errors here and there (e.g. “he” instead of “the”), but they were overshadowed by the wonderful organization of ideas. The reading was smooth and easily hooked me into the intricacies of the plot.

And the best thing about this book, in my opinion, is the worldbuilding! It is so well-thought out—I could imagine every scene in amazing detail. Also, how cool is the Glass?? The purple crystal is such a creative addition to the book!

description

Would DEFINITELY recommend it, especially if you’re a fan of authors like Sarah J. Maas or Sabaa Tahir!

See ya in the next review :)

Received an eArc in exchange for an honest review. Daughter of Shattered Skies takes you by the hand, and whisks you away to a bewitching land full of giant crystals, magic and cosmic wonder. With a rich, magical and whimsical world split into night and day, this world harks visuals from any Hayao Miyazaki film. This coming-of-age story with a female protagonist who is bad-ass, feminine and smart (because yes, you *CAN* be all 3) who is trying to save her queendom. Whilst figuring out her place in the world and sort through her own tumultuous feelings, for a certain loyal bodyguard and a certain Prince with charred hands from the warring nation above the Timeline who has sworn to kill her.

With a voice inside Issaria’s magic, a deity who has sworn vengeance and more, our heroine has a lot to figure out along the way. With this cross map adventure we explore a lot of this amazing world without it being too heavy. The information is rolled out effortlessly, with a high fantasy’s worth of lore and history stuffed into a YA package. Issaria is thrown into all sorts of situations, and you will revel in how it all unfolds.

Prince Calix has a special place in my heart, and I am blaming those charred hands of his.

The only 5* book I read that month. I absolutely could not put it down, I HAD to know what was going to happen next, and I could not predict what was going to happen and it surprised me at every turn. This book has a lot of tiny easter eggs for fans of Sailor Moon, Ghibli films, Avatar the Last Airbender and much more. I can’t wait to see what the next book brings! I need the next book now!

For fans of The Bridge Kingdom, Sailor Moon, Air Awakens and Throne of Glass.

“Be afraid. But do it anyway.”

I really enjoyed this book!!

This story follows three main characters: Issaria, the Imperial Princess; Elon, her royal guard and best friend; and Calix, Prince if Hinhallow, as they navigate their perilous realm that has been split between night and day after Issaria’s parents were killed.

After a steady build up with intricate world building, the plot really gets going and it had me gripped! I thought there was great dynamics between the characters and the whole book is written so beautifully. The plot was highly enjoyable, and that ending!! I’ll honestly can’t wait for book 2!

Thank you to the author for sending me an eARC of this book!

First of all, Sara did a fantastic job with the world builidng! The world of Ellorhys is so rich and I can’t wait to see the main trio of Issaria, Calix and Elon explore it further in later books. Ellorhys reminded me a bit of a mix of the world of Sailor Moon R and Daevabad in the best way possible. I also loved that even though there was a lot of world building it did not come across as overwhelming and did not take away from the plot.

In terms of the characters, I, of course, loved the main trio, but Sara also kept my attention with minor characters like Rhaminta and Maiyra. And there was also Princess Shari, who I have a feeling is going to be a lot of trouble despite seeming to be a minor character at first.

There is also clearly a love triangle brewing in this book and I already know who I’m rooting for. Calix definitely won me to his side in this book. Elon is sweet, but I felt like there was more passion between Calix and Issaria. Also I’m very much a sucker for dark hair and fire power (think Prince Zuko and Will Herondale).

I’ve read a lot of debut novels this year and Daughter of Shattered Skies is definitely one of my favorites. Aside from the incredible world building and characters, the plot had everything I look for in a good book. There was a bit of adventure, a bit of magic, a bit of palace intrigue and a bit of romance. I can’t recommend this book enough especially for my fellow fantasy readers. Definitely a 5 out of 5 star read for me.

Wow. Where to start?!

This book. I’ve been in and out of a reading slump for over a month now, and Daughter of Shattered Skies completely knocked me out of it! I was completely enraptured from the first chapter. A struggle for power, betrayal, secret identities, budding romance, and magical beings beyond comprehension – this story really does have it all!

Let’s begin with the world building. Oh, how I enjoyed every minute of it! If I wasn’t told that this was the author’s debut novel – I never would have guessed it! Sara is truly a masterful world builder. She painted this beautiful, picture of the world of Ellorhys, only to shatter it – not once, but twice as our protagonist discovers how different the world is from what she thought to be true.

Moreover, I absolutely adored the magical system in this book, and the lore that is intertwined with it. The descriptions of magic use are so intense, and really add another level of depth to the action scenes! And the lore is – chef’s kiss – there’s really no other way to put it without spoiling things! I cannot wait to see how this is expanded upon throughout the rest of the series. There is unlimited potential here!

Unlike most fantasy books that I have read with switching POVs, I did not feel like there was something left to be desired with Daughter of Shattered Skies. It hit every nail on the head! The transitions between characters were absolutely seamless. I never felt lost in the timeline, and none of the characters’ narratives overpowered the others. Each character was so distinct, it made the experience delightful.

Speaking of characters, all were well developed – no matter how big or small their role in this story was. I loved watching the protagonists grow, specifically Issaria, and I cannot wait to see where her journey ends up taking her.

This book started out with very distinct relationships between the characters. I loved how over the course of the book these lines became muddled, and were crossed – for better or for worse? We shall see (insert evil laugh here).

OKAY BUT THAT EPILOGUE HAS ME SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT BOOK – I CAN NOT WAIT!!!

Thank you so much for Sara, and Book of Matches Media for giving me an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦

This book firstly for me began like it will be a middle-grade book because it began with Issaria sneaking around from the castle to go to a festival and Elon following her path until she got caught by her aunt Hecate. In the beginning, I had the feeling this might be a very sweet story about a girl and some tragic events, but now I have been wrong.

This story even tho it began sweetly and very childish in a blink of an eye has thrown you to the ground and made your heart race 100 miles per hour. Everything has changed in a blink of an eye and left me to want to know more.

I loved the magic system the author has developed, it was so amazing. The fact that plenty of people were born with magic and each one of them had different powers and they could’ve lived many years over 200 years gave this book a different feeling and so many other complications.

The world-building has made my imagination go crazy, from the harsh worlds in between regions to the slave traders to the crystal world has really played with my imagination.

I loved the character development. Issaria has grown and learned so much from the very few pages to the end, she has been a princess, a slave, a nobody, and from each role life has forced her to play, she has learned so many things. And I loved the fact that so many things were entwined with her life and so many things were related to her and they felt like a domino game, if something felt, everything felt. Another character that I’ve really liked was Xenviera – that girl really knew her guns and I do hope we get to know more of her.

However, in my opinion, I should mention that some things might be triggering such as during a slave sale one of the buyers has mentioned he would like a slave, even more younger next time – age hasn’t been specified but that scene just gave me weird vibes that’s for sure. Another thing that might be triggering is a rape attempt on Issaria by the assassin, that scene wasn’t really triggering for me but it did make me feel uneasy.

Even tho the book might be triggering for some people for me has been really catchy and interesting.
A world full of crystals, cosmos, and divine celestial, and the slow romance between Issaria and Celix has been just perfect. I loved their final moment together and I’m so excited to see what happens more, and in my opinion, if we get a love triangle in this book I’m going to devour it so fast.

Let me just start off by saying, that if I didn't already know this was a debut, I honestly would've never guessed.

It is so easy to get immersed in the world of Ellorhys - it is magical, whimsical and full of cosmic goodness! I love that the world is split in permanent night or day, this and the challenges it represents for the population are unique and rather refreshing for a fantasy binger like myself. Some aspects of the story/magic also remind me of Avatar the Last Airbender and I definitely got some nostalgia out of that! Here for it! 🙌

The characters in this one are also fantastic. I'm already in love with Issaria and Calyx. I was overjoyed when Issaria joined my Badass Book Queens club, even if she's still a princess 😂. Calyx = sexy prince = book boyfriend!? 😲😉. Love the found family developing in this story and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book because the potential for some amazing character arcs is so there! You all know by now how I'm a sucker for that. 😂

Certain bits of this book also just made me LOL so hard because they are just so Sara!!! I adore the fact I can find her and her sense of humour in here. 💖

CW: Violence, death, sexual assault (but none of it is super descriptive) and slavery.

A huge huge thank you to Book of Matches Media and Sara DeLaVergne for the arc in exchange for an honest review!

WOW! Just wow!
I received an eARC for this book and I'm so so grateful to Sara for sending me one! 💜

This book was incredible! Completely different to anything I've ever read before but definitely gave me vibes from some of my favourite books - eg. Strange the Dreamer and Throne of Glass. The writing was beautiful - all the descriptions of the world building made it so easy to feel like I was transported into the world of Ellorhys! The concept of the Eventide, I just love it!
Issaria is a very caring, compassionate and badass MC and I really enjoyed following her story through the lies and betrayals that have surrounded her life. Seeing how her character develops from being a naive child to the fiery imperial princess that she becomes was really exciting and I can't wait to see what happens in book 2!
We have not one, but TWO love interests in this book and honestly, I am so on the fence about who she should choose - we have Elon, her childhood best friend who has been there for her through thick and thin...but then we also have the very charming Prince Calix whose involvement in Issaria's life is quite new but has definitely left an impact...only time will tell what will unfold!

Basically what I'm saying is...you NEED to read this book! You can preorder the ebook now so...GO GO GO! But if you're like me and love physical editions, stay tuned and definitely get yourself a copy of this book when it releases on the 12TH OCTOBER!! 💜✨

OMG this is an amazing multiple POV telltale. The story is quite intriguing. When I started reading the book I got a little lost with history of the imperial bloodline but as the story progressed, I got the hang of it. It has action, betrayal, secret identities and alot of magic, both good and bad.
DoSS is Sara’s debut novel but after reading it you won’t be able to say that, it’s written as if she has a decade of experience in writing. The story develops in such a manner that you’ll feel the depth of the plot and can connect with the characters instantly.
Issaria is a strong protagonist and her character development is good from a sweet kind princess to a strong worrier princess. Her dedication towards her people is appealing, she can go to greater lengths for the good of her people.
Elon is the best friend and secret love of Issaria. He can do anything for her, his life is only for her.
Calix is the prince who is kind by heart but is fierce by nature. He’s the best part of the story and the meeting between him & Issa is just phenomenal.
I want to say so much about this book but have to refrain myself from saying it 🤐 otherwise it’ll be spoiled for you. I highly recommend it, you will love this story from heart. I’m really excited to see where this story goes further. With so much of past, future should be explosive.
It’s a 4.5⭐️ for me. And thanks to Sara and bookofmatchesmedia for the eARC.

I received a free ebook from the author. I was not compensated for this review and all opinions are my own.

Let me start by saying that I did not know much about this book before I received it. I read the description and felt it was something I might enjoy. WOW.....This book blew me out of the water. If I didn't know this was the authors debut, i would have pegged her as an award winning author who has been writing for years! This story grabbed me from the beginning and took hold. I picked it up and could not put it down. I read through the night because I needed to know what was happening next. The twist and turns in this book are crazy and kept me guessing. I cannot recommend this book enough! The main character is Issaria, who is strong and smart and becomes this warrior for her people. Elon is the sweet, boy next door but is also a fierce protector. Then you have Calix....he is off the chart hot and I loved him fiercely. If you love stories with court politics, betrayal, magic and deep dark secrets...This book is for you. Do yourself a favor ad pick it up. You will not be disappointed. This book gets 5 stars. Thank you Sara DeLaVergne for this story. I truly loved it!

When I first started reading this book I was skeptical! To be honest when I saw that Issaria was only 9 when the book started I didn’t think that I was going to have anything in common or be able to connect to the characters. But not was I wrong! Sara really did a number on me with this book. She pulled at heartstrings with this one! I laughed, cried, and threw a fit at some parts of this book! I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Issaria will stop at no ends to save her people and her kingdom. Can she find love in the process? Will it work?? What’s going to happen with the people she left behind? Will she be able to stand up to the only family that she has left? How can all of humanity be saved from the entity that lives within her? What’s going to happen?? I need to know!

I suggest that everyone read this book and get on board with the amazing world that has been created here!

This was a really good debut! I really enjoyed it, and hope to read the next books as they are released. I was really intrigued by the world from the synopsis, and it didn't disappoint. I loved the idea of the world split into night and day - it made for really unique aspects of the story. I adored the main character, Issaria and was pleased with how the love triangle played out in this one. The multiple POVs in this one really furthered the story, and there wasn't a character there that I disliked reading from. I am super curious about Shairi, and hope to see more of her POV in later books. The world building here isn't overbearing but gets the job done well. The middle part did feel a little bit slow, and I wish we could have had a little bit less of the long journey or seen more of the relationship between the 5 girls developing. Overall, a read I would definitely recommend! 4.5 stars.

Huge thanks to the author and BOMM tours for an e-ARC - all thoughts are my own.

I really enjoyed watching Issaria prove to herself that she's a leader. In the beginning, she is controlled by her Aunt and isn't very confident but as she is forced to go on a journey and out of her comfort zone, her innate leadership and queenly-ness definitely comes through! It was great to watch. I especially love her relationship with the girls she befriended, I like seeing women support each other!

The ending captured my attention and I can tell we are getting into some crazy stuff! I am sure the story will expand greatly from here and I am excited to see what happens!

Also, I am team Prince Calix 😉

Please note that this book feels new adult to me and has some trigger warnings to be aware of:
Slavery, sexual assault, implied rape, abuse, family separation, misogyny (not of the author, it is clearly to make characters bad)

This book was really interesting. The plot was unique and filled with lots of magic. (Two of my favorite combinations). There is power struggles, secret identities, a warrior princess, betrayal, and the best possible friend a MC could have. I loved everything about this book.

As I said, this plot and storyline was unique. There was so much great world-building, it's something was hard to believe this was a debut book. It was so easy to get hooked into the story. (I mean I literally finished this book in a day and still wanted more. Cannot wait for the rest of the series)

Elon is my favorite character. I know that Prince Calix will be the popular one, but I just love Elon's character. Anyway, character development in this book was good. The characters were easy to relate to and Issaria is the perfect female protagonist.

Overall, this book was amazing. I would highly recommend to Leigh Bargudo, Cassandra Clare, Sarah J Maas, Elise Kova and in general anyone really.

*Thank you Sara DeLaVergne for the gifted book. I am leaving this review voluntarily*

Thrilling epic fantasy full of twists and turns!

Daughter of Shattered Skies instantly grips you with a tumultuous empire split in half by a timeline that divides day and night. The pace is brisk with non-stop action, and the characters are so well written, they seem corporeal.

While Imperial Princess Issaria is the main character on this hero’s journey tale, she is wonderfully complimented by Elon (her protector with a secret past) and Prince Calix (who’s magic, golden heart, and charred hands have undone me). Issa’s character arc is truly magnificent, and the tension surrounding her survival and coming-of-age evolvement kept me turning pages way past my bedtime.

Author Sara DeLaVergne wonderfully weaves secret identities, betrayals and power struggles, high stakes, an ancient prophecy, and the magic of believing in yourself.

Brilliant debut. I’m vested in this tenuous empire and am in love with Issa, Elon, and (very much) Calix. Can’t wait for book 2 to see what happens next!

I received an ARC from the author (thank you Sara!) and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Can you believe its a debut novel! My God!!! This book is so good. My mind is literally at a loss for words.
I wasn't even in the mood for fantasy so I didn't think I'd read it til the end. Little did I know that I'd be hooked from the very beginning.
I was wonderfully confused when I started this, thinking to myself ' what the hell is going on? '
Then slowly things started to unravel, not a minute went by without some action or interesting tidbit coming up that shook you to your very core.
I loved all the characters!! Need I say how strong and fierce our protagonist was. I loved that she didn't grate on my nerves like some warrior protagonists I've read before.
Great character development, excellent world building and commendable writing, you'd think she has written plenty books before. The juvenile feeling that a writing has for first time authors was lacking here.
Fast paced and enjoyable. I highly recommend!

It has been awhile since I read a fantasy book because the world building can get to be a lot for me. That being said, I'm very happy the author reached out to collaborate with me. All my thoughts are my own.

Daughter of Shattered Skies is a YA Fantasy novel told in different perspectives. That was one aspect to the story that I enjoyed the most. When authors create this amazing world but only allow you one POV, it really takes away from my overall enjoyment. That wasn't the case for DoSS, so I never found myself bored while reading. It switched it up often enough to keep it entertaining, but not so much that it got confusing.

As I said before, world building usually isn't my thing, but DeLaVergne does such an amazing job of not over bearing the reader. The concept of this world is so interesting and I love the story behind it and I enjoyed how the author was able to give us pieces of information until it created the world.

Calix is probably one of my favorite characters in the book. I just loved reading his chapters the most. This book reminds me a lot of Falling Kingdoms, my favorite series ever, so I think that was another reason it really resonated with me.

I cannot wait to see where this story goes!

My favorite part of this book was the bonds and friendships of the characters. This was a page turning read that is 100% worth it! Calix and Issara um OK!! And that ending at me at the EDGE of my seat! Overall, a solid read.

review: okay, the start was a bit confusing but i got the hook of it. The book was sort of a rollar coaster, it was fast at the start then a lil slow and interesting in the middle, and lastly the epilogue was boom, so good! The characters were quite easy to relate to, especially Calix who's now my fictional boyfriend. The writing style is okie-dokie and was easy to get through. Next, the plot was awesomeeeee..... because i binged read it cuz my exams were so close and i don't regret a second of it. Fantasy is my prime genre and this book didn't fail to meet my expectations, the plot was superb twists and turns which i sadly can't mention cuz it will be spoilers. There are quite a few pov's and i have my favourites.

♡ thanks to book of matches media and author for the copy!

Someone once told me that life is not about being fearless, but having the courage to overcome our limitations.

First of all, I want to appreciate how gorgeous the cover is!! I'm not gonna lie it's the first thing that made me want to read this one.

The world building is really fascinating and the magical system in it made me flipping the pages because I need to know more.
I have to admit, it was a bit confusing for me at first but after a while it become easier to understand and the map helps envisioning Issaria's journey.

The character are pretty good and I really like them. I love reading about how Issaria bonds with her female friends seeing she grew up without any of that.
I already guess this one would have a love triangle from the cover of the book, and to be honest I'm not really a fan of them especially in a series because it's going to take too long to figure out who the main character's going to end up with! This book is no exception hahaha but I'm still excited to read the next one and find out what's going to happen to those three.

The story is pretty well written, even though the pacing was a bit slow in the first half part of the book but it will eventually picks up and things are getting a lot more interesting especially with the epilogue!
The multiple POVs really help the readers to know the world building better and get insights on other characters as well.

Overall, for a debut novel this is really good. Fascinating magical system, great world building and well develop characters makes this a good start for a series!
I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!

A huge thank you to Sara DeLaVergne for giving me this digital copy of the book in return for my honest opinion, also thank you to Starlight Tour for allowing me to be a part of the book tour for this gorgeous book!

Sara Delavergne's Daughter of Shattered Skies is a strong opener to the new YA fantasy Shattered trilogy. Readers who pick up the book can expect great characters, a juicy love triangle, immersive worldbuilding, and an engaging storyline.

I loved the mythology, the pantheon, and the magic system that Ms. Delavergne created for this book. The worldbuilding and the descriptions of Ellorhys were immersive - it's so much fun when an author makes it easy to get lost in a new fantasy world. The magic system reminded me a lot of the bending subspecialties in Avatar the Last Airbender (lightning, blood bending, healing, etc.); I personally would choose to be a Whisperer as it sounds really cool.

I would recommend this book to fans of authors like Leigh Bardugo or Morgan Rhodes. It would also be a great choice for fans of the Avatar the Last Airbender franchise. Overall, Daughter of Shattered Skies was an entertaining book and I look forward to reading the next installment in the Shattered trilogy. As a side note, at the time of writing this review (February 2022), this book was available to read for free for all Kindle Unlimited members.

Thank you to the author and Book of Matches Media for providing me with a complimentary review copy of the book. I appreciate the opportunity to read and review Daughter of Shattered Skies immensely! Please note - I voluntarily read and reviewed Daughter of Shattered Skies. All opinions expressed in the review are my own and not influenced in any way.

Daughter of Shattered Skies
By Sara DeLaVergne

Issaria is the Imperial Princess of Ellorhys, a continent that gets divided into eternal day and eternal night when her parents are assassinated. Issa is raised by her Aunt Cate to conquer the Daylight cities when she is of age. But, before her 18th birthday, Issa feels as though her unstable magic is telling her there is more to her magic than she ever imagined. And something within that magic wants vengeance.
In the Evernight region, Prince Callix is tasked with eliminating Issa and Cate if possible. When he comes across ancient powers on his quest he returns home and is forced to help Fate awaken.

I ended up really enjoying this book. Princess Issa goes through so many difficulties on her journeys in this story and she is so strong. I love that she supports the women around her and was really rooting for her to find happiness. Although there is no smut the slow burn throughout the book had me so anxious. This book ends with what feels like 4-5 different cliffhangers and Sara’s website shows she is only 50% done with book 2. I’m not sure how I’ll be patient enough to wait.
While there were grammatical errors, that does not take away from the book for me.

I won this book in an Instagram giveaway hosted by Sara and I couldn’t be happier. I love my signed copy and would recommend this to anyone who likes YA Fantasy.

Thank you so much Books of Match Media and the author for this copy in exchange for an honest review! I found this book interesting, the characters to be engaging, and I can’t wait to see what else this series will bring.

Although I had a little difficulty getting into the read at first, a dramatic and shocking beginning reeled me in and wouldn’t let me go until the very end.

I found the book world to be absolutely fascinating and it almost reminded me of an opposite universe of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe! Instead of endless winter, it was endless summer and being a California girl, it almost made me feel at home! I also found the magical system very fascinating and I am so curious to see what else Issaria’s magic has in store for her.

The story is told through multiple perspectives which allows the reader to get to see a bigger overview of the world and get to know all the characters on a deeper level. But, I found myself liking some perspectives better than others. The plot has so many crazy twists and turns and the ending shocked me to the core! I cannot wait for the sequel!
