Japan is known for its natural beauty, distinctive culture, and advanced technology; there is much to admire. It is a land that leaves memorable first impressions. But beneath the surface, there is much to wrestle with. This booklet will help you to move beyond those first impressions to engage with the stories and concerns of Christians in Japan. It is these concerns, and the knowledge that fewer than 1% of Japanese people know Jesus. that have led OMF and Pioneers to produce this prayer booklet.
This prayer booklet was my bread and butter in Japan. I used it as I prayed in Canada before I left, as I overlooked the Shibuya Crossing, as I sat in the Skytree in Tokyo, and even in the trains as I observed the people around me. This booklet helped focus my prayers on the needs of Japan. God really showed me the power of prayer and the need for us to pray for fellow believers and non-believers on the other side of the world.
While I doubted the effectiveness and importance of prayer in the past, I know now at the deepest core of my being that committed prayer is needed not only for our personal lives but for the spiritual breakthrough of the gospel in Japan. I can just envision my brothers and sisters in Christ all across the world lifting Japan up in prayer each day, directing at huge topics like Japan's mental health, social conformity, natural disasters, religious practices, struggling churches, lack of church leadership, etc.
Short story: During my mission trip, the OMF workers would spend an hour praying together every morning with their "Prayer Fuel" document that included specific, informed prayer points from each of the various workers and ministries across Japan. Seeing their commitment to prayer was SO COOL!! I'm definitely inspired to do the same with my ministry in the future.
