Even the toughest armor can be shattered with the right leverage...
LINA
Love is a lie. I've had that lesson beaten into me ever since I was a child. Some people might think that's a tragedy, but not me. Because you know what's even better than love?
Power.
I clawed my way to the top of the food chain and became the leader of the Beaufort crime syndicate at only twenty years old. Now, nobody crosses me and lives to tell the tale. There's just one little problem:
You don't build an empire without making a few enemies.
My past is coming back to haunt me with a vengeance, but I have no intention of going down without a fight. Hiring a K-9 handler for added security was a simple business decision.
But I wasn’t counting on Ayla. Aloof attitude, dark hair, tattoos--exactly my type. She’s far more than just a K-9 handler, and I want to peel back that carefully composed exterior and see what’s underneath.
I know I'm bad for her, but sometimes, being bad feels too good to stop. I just hope we both make it out of this alive.
AYLA
I’ve always had three rules for how I handle my work: Get in. Get the job done. And don’t get invested.
When a mysterious client offered me a fabulous sum of money to come work for them, I jumped at the opportunity. I thought it would be just another job.
Turns out I probably should have asked a few more questions.
Now I'm stuck working for a woman who is equal parts terrifying and gorgeous. My new employer has a reputation for being ruthless, and I've seen firsthand what she's capable of. She crushes hardened criminals beneath the point of her stiletto heels without breaking a sweat.
I should be running away from her as fast as I can.
I always grew up hungry for stories that I could see myself in. Even the tiniest hint of queerness would make my heart beat faster, but any sort of media where queer women were the protagonists was a rarity. Even rarer if you wanted queer characters who got happy endings!
One day I decided to start writing the types of stories I wished I could read. Stories where being queer isn't something to overcome, where the main characters could fall in love and be themselves and find joy in each other. I'm mostly writing contemporary F/F romance these days, but occasionally I dabble in fantasy and sci-fi.
I love connecting with readers, so feel free to drop me a line any time you want to talk about books, dogs, or nerdy things :)
A casual read where there's not a lot of depth, despite the serious subject matter. The connection between the women is more lusty than anything more meaningful. But it was still an OK, Average read.
I liked the themes of the book. Who's the rat? I like gala and Linda as well as Nick!!. Yes! I would recommend this book to my friends. I gave this book 5 stars because it held my interest and it made me think!
So, even criminals have hearts.......no big surprise but the tension between the two leading ladies was well managed and exponential and the ending, well, didn't see that coming....loved the interactions with the dog too....a well balanced book with good pace and characters
There was something so wrong yet so right about this book. Ayla and Artoo combined were a formidable duo but Lina was one badass dude. The chemistry between Ayla and Lina pulled this story despite the crazy world that was going on around them. This is just one of those books you need to read to appreciate. A review would reveal too much and ruin the adventure, other than it is worth reading…..
An ok story. Some parts were particularly hard to believe. The lady who is supposed to be the big bad evil boss lady certainly enjoys torturing people. The other MC apparently enjoys watching her torture people. Kind of screwy there.
The people who died were bad guys. No innocents were harmed as near as I can tell. Those who live by the sword die by the sword, and I think most readers accept that as part of the mantle of suspending disbelief.
Writing a story that takes place in the underworld is hard. Cocaine is not a victimless crime. The author frequently used the term ‘morally gray’ but it didn’t come off as morally gray. The Drug Lord lady came off as pretty evil. Yes, she was damaged as a child, but for both the MC’s to sort of write that off as a carte blanche to do whatever they like was very uncomfortable.
Overall it was an ok story. I wouldn’t read it again though. 1 and done on that.
2,75/3 TODAY I'M A HATER😤 So about this book...yeah I HATED I enjoyed some parts but other than that...no Every time I'm trying to remember the plot I have a stroke I hate the cheating trope AND I don't care that "They weren't a couple yet🥺" They FUCKED so this equal=marriage in my mind Overall I'm a hater
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading but I loved ever minute of it. Both women were strong characters and while their jobs weren’t typical, they still gad morals they followed. I can’t wait for more!
Romantic suspense? Yes please! Add a K9 bodyguard and morally gray gangster and it’s a recipe for a wild ride! Easy to read and engaging. Dual points of view are well done and welcome.
I thought I could handle Lina's role as a cartel boss but after that torture scene I was wrong. This is totally a me thing because the writing was great.
