For as long as Aries can remember, training to become a knight has been her life. She needs to be the best, if she ever has hopes of being the first female of Avalon. Especially if she intends to do it without using her magic. After all, only the marked are allowed to wield such powers. When Aries comes across a man who needs her magic to survive, she finds herself at a crossroads.
Will she risk everything she’s been striving for to save a handsome stranger?
Akuma has been talking his way in and out of trouble for most of his life. When trouble finds him once more, Akuma knows he’s in too deep. This time, he can’t talk his way out of things - he needs magic. Healing magic that is - something that is in short supply. When a beautiful stranger offers him aid, Akuma can’t refuse her, even though she is unmarked. Even though he knows danger follows him wherever he goes.
When worlds collide, will there be an alliance? Or will magic and secrets cause more destruction than Aries and Akuma can bear?
The scene with David was where I'd had enough. I tried to give this book a fair shake but it's all over the place in grammar, tense, and pronouns. The idea was interesting but the execution is just not enjoyable to read. I think this author needs to work on their skills a bit more and then edit the shit out of this and THEN they might have a good book.
I made quite a number of my highlights public as examples of the issues found in this book.
I was so happy that the MC knew how to fight. She had great aspirations. She did not take crap from guys. This book had massive potential.
Then she (and all females) saw a pair of abs and all common sense left. It is not ok to make women seem stupid just by being around hot guys.
If this book left the sex for the next book, it would have been so much better.
Spoiler
Who sleeps again with someone who takes your virginity, steals from you, and leave without a word the next day. No apology. Definitely not a strong female character. These and the gaga attitude toward men reduced the characters credibility.
I absolutely LOVED this book. It was amazing and I don’t think I could fall in love with characters as much as I fell in love with these! Aries is just chefs kiss to perfection and so are the guys! If you’re looking for a fantasy novel that’ll keep you on your toes, has the spice, will make you cry AND laugh then this is definitely your next read.❤️
Book needs some editing, tbh. Wasn't enough to distract me from the story but a bunch of little things that can easily be fixed.
Story itself seems interesting. FMC kicks...faces...and takes names. There's some mystery surrounding exactly what she is and what she can do-same with the 3 men we assume will be hers. So far she has only "connected" with one of them but she has some brain melt, almost to an annoying degree, going on for the other 2.
They've encountered some demons, the men have shown some jealous behavior, her village was burned down, FMC has suffered sadness over loved ones and now she's got her brave face on and they're off on a quest to uncover what she truly is.
I'm a sucker for those big reveals so I'm going to keep on reading when the next 2 books are released even if they suffer the same snags.
Note to self when writing a book makes sure the character names aren't super similar. Don't use names such as Aries, Ares, Alistair and Akuma (all used in this book).
There were lots of places where the dialogue didn't make sense. Overall, I could get what the author was trying to convey but the sentences by themselves didn't work.
The FMC and the first man for her harem had bratty, dysfunctional, toxic chemistry. The flirting was the equivalent to punching some you like. I think the author was hoping for witty banter but ended up with bratty/emotionally toxic banter.
One character is introduced as being 29 but later it is found that the character was in the demon wars that were a super long time ago. Lots of inconsistencies with the plot, age, character development. There was enough editing issues to be noticeable and affect the overall book.
I had to DNF at 50%. The premise of the book is promising, but there was nearly something wrong on every page. Single sentences held multiple grammar issues and switched tenses. More editing should have gone into this because it kind of reads like a Wattpad story that was put onto Amazon, no offense to the author. I believe if it was refined more it would be worth more stars and a second read. I just have a fixation problem and egregious errors in that abundance just puts me at a stop. I can’t look past them when they’re so common. Hope to read more by the author, however.
I really like this book. Love all the guys. Aries is a strong female lead!! This is a good start to a series.
It had some issues. For one, the same descriptive words were continuously used, “lust bubbling”, “hard abs and a deep v”. I’m also confused about the world this book is set in. It seems like modern earth by the characters speech, wearing jeans and referencing bills but then there’s a king, she works at a blacksmith shop and they’re riding on horses.
I'm gonna start off by saying that I've been been much into magic/fantasy type things... Until NOW. Woah!
I love the world that Rune has built, the way her characters interact with each other, the mystery and intrigue of what all that magic can do. The seggsy scenes are hot, I love that each male is and does something different for her; Akuma was her first, Kill is the more Dominant yet sarcastic type, Mal helped her with her magic, Doc was all cuddly and sweet - and together it was all perfect.
I was so excited to get into this book as I haven't read a paranormal RH in a while, and I definitely wasn't disappointed!
Rune has created such an interesting magical filled world that I got completely lost in it. Aries is an amazing character, and her men are definitely interesting characters! This is the first book in the series, and I'm buzzing to see what Rune does next!
If you're looking for an interesting paranormal read, I highly recommend this :)
The writing was different. Not bad but different and maybe that’s due to the time period or something. Either way I really liked this and can’t wait to figure out: what Aries is? What the other guys are? And what happens next. This isn’t a total cliffhanger and I like that. I’ve been excited to read Rune’s work for a while now. It’s very enjoyable thus far.
Enjoyable story but slightly ruined by just how many silly spelling errors there are. In the end I gave up reporting them as errors to Kindle as it was starting to feel like I was spending just as much time reporting them as reading.
With that said, if spelling errors, none major just silly things, are something you can ignore this is an enjoyable read.
I feel like the storyline has potential, but it definitely needed to be edited before being released. I love the characters, and I like where the story is going. Like I said, has potential! For me personally, the spicy scenes were def lacking and there were some pacing issues I noticed… but I do tend to be more critical, so take my option with a grain of salt.
I really liked this book and have already downloaded the next two. I am really hoping that there is a change with the cousin and that her power is not fully extinguished. I think that would be an awesome part to the story line. A sleeping beauty! The author did a great job on this book, for those looking for a good page turner, then Enjoy!
OMMFG I'm in love with this book and I cannot wait for the next book to come out!! I 💙 our FMC and the side characters are great. Towards the end something devastating happens so prepare to 😭😭😭😭!! #RIP.Rhys
We as women always doubt ourselves. It's great to see the strength and bravery Aries show's but also the softness and how feminine. I also liked the fact that her male friend encouraged her to do what she wanted to do and advocated for her.
I couldn’t put this down, I was completely mesmerised by the storyline. The suspense and twist- you never knew what would happen next. This book has highs and lows and some great steamy scenes The magic, the usual powers - perfection.
Maybe if this story was part of an anthology it would be sufficient but this is really just the first part of a complete book. Truly this just is a prequel to what I hope to be a good story but I am annoyed that this is considered book one.
These books start out strong, but after the first book they just go from a strong independent woman to straight spoiled brat porn star. Not saying that sex is bad, but I'd like a little more strong woman and less cry baby whore.
