Disappointing
The MC lived an unsatisfying life before returning to the time of a major crossroad in his life. With youthful exuberance he immediately attacked a 3 ring mage and only got slapped down, rather than getting annihilated (like he should have). He then obtained his first ring, but thereafter proceded to make a series of poor choices. He sought a mentor, but was thrown out on his ear, so he received a day of instruction from his bonded spirit, then joined a fight club.
Really?
Ok, he won his 1st battle then left town to be set upon by 5 thugs; surprise, surprise from the fight club. They bop him in the head with a club, yet he recovers enough to overpower them all. Really?
Next he goes to the Shogun's city with the intent to get into the mage academy to gain power so that he can, in the future, initiate a coup and remove the Shogun. He then picks a fight with some student mages, thrashes them and convinces them to take him to meet the Shogun.
Sure!
If you went to a major city and picked a fight with some police academy trainees, would they take you to meet the mayor or more likely drag you off in handcuffs to meet the warden as a "guest" of the state?
He makes up a cock and bull story about being an expatriate from a rival Shogunate, yet he knows nothing about the other Shogunate speaks with the same accent as the natives but everyone buys his bull. Navigating the politics of a court alone should have made everyone skeptical and revealed his inept lies to the Shogun and his advisors. But no, the Shogun decides to admit him for training, where he immediately makes himself stand out by telling others how he treats his sprite and suggests that they treat theirs better too. Really, thats the true secret to his power and he's just blabing it to his enemies, even if they wont listen to him... yet!
Nuff said, the MC is an old fool in a young man's body, who is convinced that he's smarter than everyone else. This is called hubris! He constantly makes himself stand out, when he should be keeping a low profile while building his power to prosecute his strategy.
I have read some of the authors other series and they do not have this level of incompetent MC. The supporting characters here seem like shadow people, without depth, so the worldbuilding is substandard. For example, in what reality do mages and their students hang out together and throw back a few cold ones?
In the last few chapters, some of the inconsistancies are addressed as the village killer is revealed, but its too little, too late. Sorry to say that this story misses the mark. Its got an interesting premise with the MC going back in time to correct his mistakes, but then the ship sinks. I would not be interested in reading a sequel to this story.

I did enjoy this book. However, there were some continuity problems with wording and or phrases used for the time period, ancient Japan. They were somewhat distracting and took me out of the story for a short time. I’m pretty sure the words ‘cool’,‘dueshe’ and f**k were not used in ancient Japan. A little research probably could have found words comparable to these and would actually have added to the authenticity of the story.
That aside, it was enjoyable but I am not sure where the story is going as there was no clear direction for the team to take at the end of the book. The MC had a hazy kind of goal but no first steps for us look forward to in the next installment, hmm.

Shallow, sloppy non cultivation book!
I have so much to say about this trash of a book. But it just makes me pissed off.
So in short. Shallow story. There is almost no cultivation or progress. Get a ring and get the power, get one more and your level 2. The MC is stupid and all characters are one dimensional! A lot doesn’t make sense for a human being and a lot isn’t logical. So sloppy.
I have read books from the author before. Don’t he wrote this. The author of this book seems like an amateur, doesn’t know any thing about martial arts or sports for that mattered.
Save your money! Don’t let it get stolen from garbage like this.

Another excellent story!!!
As always an exceptional story by a true master author!!! Yes, the adult fantasy action is first class but more importantly the story its self is a wonderful read!!

great start
Great start to a series, really enjoyed it a proper page Turner no list of upgrades or how the mc evolves so no percentages to study just action story and harem with sexy fun times thrown in.

Terrible
First off the random Japanese romaji words were annoying and jarring, not everyone knows the language. The MC was an idiot and for someone that lived an entire life before made stupidly reckless decisions. The Plot Armor was to thick did not finish.

Good read
Took a few turns I was not expecting, and if you like the romance side as well, I think you'll find this book pretty engaging. It's even left open for another book. Hope the next one comes out soon.
