But when her childhood sweetheart leaves for Canada he leaves Evie with more than just a broken heart. Her father agrees to keep the pregnancy a secret but is determined to marry her off to the first hapless fellow who’ll have her. This book is set in post WWII and focuses on Evie, a young woman who ends up pregnant just before her boyfriend leaves for Canada. Evie wants to keep the baby but faces shame and has a difficult road ahead. I truly felt for Evie as society treats unmarried mothers cruelly, and men are able to avoid the stigma. Overall, this was an easy read but not my type of book.

I am a big fan of this author. This is her best book yet. Wonderful characters and a beautifully told story. A rollercoaster of a read. Heart-warming and romantic but gritty, and so compelling. Brilliant.

Another enjoyable easy read. Few more twists and turns in this book than the previous two and as a result I like this more than the last book.
