Sam must master his connection to the source—and understand alchemy—if he wants to save the Academy.
Sam had come to the Academy powerless and used his wits to keep his place until learning that he can command a different magic. With the Nighlan attacking along the border of the city in the hopes of freeing Rasan Tel, Academy students are called upon to fight.
Having used his power to protect the Academy, Sam finds himself in a new struggle. Somehow, he has to balance his classes, lessons with a new alchemy instructor, all while working on a secret assignment in the war against the Nighlan.
As he begins to learn the truths of alchemy and his unique connection to power, Sam knows that he holds a key to stopping the fighting, but only if he can master his power.
The lessons he needs can’t be found in books, and the only person with the knowledge he needs is the same person he must defeat.
Whole series are easily readable and logical. I also don't get overwhelmed or think too many superpowers or some things have been piled together like it often happens with long series. Sam is strong because he has learned to use his talents and knowledge and power hasn't just been dumped on him. His actions make sense. You will get deeply immersed into the universe and know just enough to have homey feeling around places, but there is always more to discover and you will find yourself smoothly trying to think alternative routes or actions. I recomend reading if you wanna relax and small reality escape.
It was hilarious! Harry went down to the tunnels, heard Voldemort's voice, jumped through the portkey and you know the rest. Tara took a back seat as nearly half of the adventures were solo. Then I found the first spelling mistake, oh the embarrassment. Grammar is debatable, but spelling, ooo. And the dialog was starting to drag like a high school essay, filling the blanks with redundant void just to reach 500 words. If only there were more detail and well thought out ideas instead of this vague sht, this would be a banger series. It's a shame.
I love these books. This one is really good. Sam is really starting to come into his own. He's learning more about his magic and has a new instructor, his sister is doing some shady stuff, and he meets the ultimate bad guy. They are moving right along. I can't wait to see what happens next. I received an ARC and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Each book in this series builds on the last. San & Tara find themselves fighting against the most Alchemist in the world. War against the Nieland, power hungry magic users and disappearing allies add to a traffic mix of problems for Sam & Tara. Will this relationship ever bloom into love?
Book 2 was a total flop, it was a disappointment and not captivating at all... However, if you've powered through that book and book 3 (which was a step in the right direction) then book 4 will continue to impress you again. It's alot better and the story/ characters are improving. I'd recommend this book.
This book was fun to read. It wasn't as bogged down by repetition and Sam's self-doubt as the first few books. I am curious to see what happens with Lilith, and whether they can actually trust her. Mia's attitude toward her brother still bugs me, but at least the two have actually had a couple conversations. Looking forward to the next book.
Sam continues to learn and gain more ability with the Source by accessing more points to the 'river's of power. Meanwhile, the enemy continues their assault on the academy, and their fearsome leader makes a bid to escape his prison. I am very much enjoying this series.
I like reading books by B.K. Holmberg, this series to me gets a little slow at times. I love a fast paced book that keeps you readibg page after page. This book is good and has those part or I won't have read 1 thru 4. Looking forward to book 5.
Plenty of action, and magic included. Book 4 was a definite binge worthy book. Followed along well with the others. Love Sam, such a strong character, just perfect for his role.
This is a well written and developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Kept me reading. Marred by some tense errors and he vs him errors. A little repetitive on his concerns, but not as angsty about them. And like in the other books, overuse of “that was the key”.
How can this book wrap up the series? It doesn’t! When I first started reading the book, I thought this was the last one in the series. As I got deeper into the action, it became apparent that there was no way they could wrap it up now. Happily there is a book 5! But I digress, Alchemist Adept is an amazing book in the series. All the elements of the story are so well-balanced. I love the magic action scenes. Sam is learning more about his particular connection to the Source, which is different from arcane magic and alchemy, but can be used with both, and/or can support both. Characters from previous books we didn’t know if we could trust or not make appearances, and the big baddie has a major role as well. There is still real danger afoot. I’m excited to see where the author will take the story!
This whole series, while slow at times has a completely different spin on the concept of magic.
Something different is introduced in each book.
As the series progresses, you can see the author is rushing; more grammatical errors appear and there are some instances of the wrong character speaking in the midst of a scene.
