-- TWO FATED COUPLES -- A dangerous society of Hunters has targeted their packs for years, armed to drive their kind to extinction for reasons darker and deadlier than any of the wolf clans realize…
SETH & LANA: Before Seth, Lana had never met the leader of a pack, never knew shifters were real. To be fair, they never knew a human like her existed either. Lana’s a latent—descended from shifters, with suppressed abilities that can protect them all from their most savage enemies. More importantly for Seth, the woman’s also his mate. So finding her means she’s just become the Hunters’ most sought-after prey…
DENVER & ESME: He’s the pack’s resident bad boy. But she’s the one who’s off-limits. Together, Esme and Denver shelter and train newly located latents, their work detail mostly spent fighting the volatile chemistry that’s tortured them from the start. Wolves and witches don’t mate. It’s why Denver ruthlessly keeps his distance—until the rules change when the shifters learn Esme is more than just their most powerful witch…
NOTE: Previously two separate books, the stories of these two fated couples have been newly revised with added content, and combined into one intertwined tale.
The HUNTED MATES Series 1) Mated by Fate (Two fated couples…) 2) Masked by Danger (One lost mate…) 3) Marked by Magic (Zero room for failure…)
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Christa Wick has been hybrid publishing since 2012 (yep, she's one of the O.G. indie authors). She's written 50+ romances starring curvalicious heroines and alphalicious heroes whose stories span the spectrum of: steamy & sweet, steamy & emotional, steamy & suspenseful, steamy & paranormal, steamy & dark, and...well, you get the idea. Her darker, dirtier books are under C.M. Wick, and she also writes general fiction sci-fi thrillers and suspense novels under other pen names.
Oh gosh. Where to begin? This book needs so much work. It starts off okay. I loved how it got right to the action. But that should have forewarned me that there would be zero development. Seriously, plot/story development was super lacking. I found myself confused half the time with what was happening. Also, there were no conversations. After Lana and Seth mare the first time, she needs a break from him. Why? We never find out and they never talk about it. And there’s more than just that. But after their story wraps up fast and easy (again, no development), we jump to Esme and Denver. Esme, aka Em or Ems (why that nickname, we don’t know. Makes no sense) and Denver are mated and he only finds out after she’s been kidnapped and left naked so she isn’t wearing her protective charms. He’s obsessed. But they jump to some hearing with the alpha where they are told that first blood is needed. I had no clue what they were talking about. Why? Because this author doesn’t like to develop or explain a thing. She obvi needs a professional editor. Anyway, first blood is apparently Esme’s virginity. Okay. Whatevs. Fine. It’s obvi Denver that will do it. And I do mean do it. Because the entire scene that follows is basically rape. It doesn’t read like a love scene at all. It’s not sexy. It’s gross.
So why did I keep reading? Well, heck if I know. I skimmed the rest. And surprise surprise, they never have a conversation. Basically “the past is the past, let’s be together “ and that’s it. This is years after he has called her a big girl over and over and talked about how he doesn’t like them. Suddenly all that just doesn’t matter.
There’s more. So much more. But wow. This really is a hot mess. That said, I think there’s potential. But a professional editor is a must. This author needs someone to point out all the plot issues and where her characters need development and conversations.
Hunted Mates (2 Interconnected Stories, 1 Book) Lana and Seth’s story) 3 Stars
Lana has been living her life as a human, having no idea she’s actually a latent wolf. When she is targeted by a group of humans, called Hunters, she bumps into her fated mate, Seth.
I’m always looking for shifter romances and this story was engaging, quick paced and had my favorite trope in paranormal romance, insta-lust/love.
Seth takes one whiff of Lana and he’s wolf comes out to play! Until Lana, latent wolves were through to be a legend or myth. But there is no deny that she pulls out his mating bond.
This would have been an easy 5 star read if the story remained focused on Seth and Lana but it deviates to the secondary couple, Esme and Denver far too quickly.
Lana is new to the world of shifters and magic but she’s thrust in and she kind of takes it all in stride, which is admirable but I definitely felt the story was too rushed and really wanted to see more of Lana and Seth together. Their romance went from zero to 60 in a blink and although they do make little cameos in the second half of the story, it wasn’t enough to really cement their own HEA. The shifter world is interesting but there was too much that was vaguely discussed or briefly mentioned but than forgotten that didn’t bug me. Mainly, Lana finding out her sister was killed by Hunters. It’s devastating news but we don’t get any reaction from Lana, during or after she finds out the truth. There was also no discussion about her sudden fertility? As the reader, you can kind of piece it together but I felt like we were grasping at straws trying to fill in the blanks.
Favorite Moments/Quotes: I loved Seth’s caveman/beast mode that he goes into when he first meets Lana. He was gruff, growly and 100% ready to claim his woman! I loved it

(Esme and Denver’s story)
1.5 stars
Esme is the resident witch and although she works with the wolves, she is considered less than because she is a non-shifter. She and Denver were once best friends but then Denver closed himself off and distanced himself from her and they grew up estranged and antagonistic towards each other. When she’s targeted by the Hunters, the clan decides they need a stronger way to bind her to them and they more or less force a mating between Esme and Denver.
Seeing no way out, Esme finds herself mated to Denver, the only person she’s ever loved and the same person she wants to be far away from.
This story was angsty and more emotionally driven than the first half was. We also interact more with the characters, especially Esme, as she’s a significant secondary character in Lana and Seth’s story. I loved how strong she was, even though you could feel her sadness. When Lana so easily accepts her as a friend and confidant (things she’s never had before) Esme is both humbled and surprised. She was definitely a character that will suck you in.
The big reveal as to why Denver has pushed Esme away for so many years was a huge let down. For one it didn’t make any sense since it wasn’t like the issue was solely affecting him/them. It was a problem for all shifters, since losing the last All-Mother. Having sympathized so much with Esme before even really getting a feel for Denver, it was hard to swallow his lame excuse, especially when his actions hurt Esme so much and for so long!
… the wall between Esme and Denver had become too high and too thick. Like that dandelion seed when they were teens, he’d simply drifted away from her. Randomly at first. Then into the arms of other women, shifters and humans, all of them sleek and beautiful, smaller than she could ever hope to be.
These types of scenes break my heart for any heroine but especially for Esme. She is considered an outcast and as an orphan, so was Denver. To read that they had such a close friendship and that it got thrown away for a flimsy reason was frustrating.
That kiss she had waited for in the field fell on another woman’s mouth and then another’s. His hands had wrapped around another woman’s hips, held them tightly to him as he penetrated their bodies. She’d had a decade of loneliness – a cold hard bed with just her in tit, her virginity the very quality that had led her to this moment, to Coop’s demand that she spread her legs and let a wolf take first blood.
After reading that, it was really hard for me to warm up to Denver. The crack about curvy girls was a low blow and something he never apologizes for, another pet peeve of mine.
He didn’t like big girls. He’d said that in front of her too many times to forget his words.
Meaning he intentionally set out to hurt Esme, over and over again, by tearing down her self esteem and ridiculing her appearance?!? Sorry but I’ve never been drawn to the Bully trope and Denver’s childish antics were the last nail in his coffin.
I liked Esme but she definitely gave it too easily and deserved better the Denver. Also I don’t think it was ever confirmed but is Esme now the All Mother? Why didn’t we get a mating ceremony for Lana and Seth but one was forced on Esme and Denver? Was it because she was a virgin?

This book was okay - but it was certainly for a very specific reader group. Calling this a Romance is a flat-out lie. There is no romance. The book is split into two acts, each with different main characters, but with the same relative problems, so I'm going to treat it as a whole in this review. There's a lot of sex in this book, which isn't a bad thing, but that sex comes with little to no consent, particularly in the second half of the book. Yes, the characters are "fated mates" and ultimately want to be together, but at that time, at that moment, one of the parties is definitely not consenting and happy to be there.
Outside of the sex, there just isn't any romance. The couples are drawn together by shifter hormones, have lots of sex, and then decide to "give in" to being mates and live happily ever after… but they have zero interaction outside of sexual experiences. They barely talk to each other and know zero information about one another. Their relationship is incredibly fast-paced (as was the book in general). I would categorize this as Erotica, not Romance.
That aside, the story just… wasn't good. Sure, it was entertaining, but the lore was flimsy, the characters had no depth, and the story is filled with domineering men constantly threatening to take what they want from the women. The villain is just some guy named Quentin who wants to have all the power he can - and that's it. There's no backstory, no explanation, just some dude.
If you're looking for a quick, dark, and dirty shifter erotica - this book will probably fill that niche for you. If you're looking for a romance with depth and interesting characters… keep walking, because you won't find it here.
First book to be read by the author Christa Wick. This book was actually being described in " Name that book" group and the way the reader described it, I had to get my hands on this. I'm glad I was able to find it, because from start to finish it was soo good. Especially Esme and Devlin' story.
First, the title is all wrong. This story should be entitled Rejected by Fate or by Mate. Both of the female heroines we’re spectacularly annoying and frustrating and most of all that’s all they did; rejecting their mates throughout the story . And for absolutely no reason that the reader can truly understand. I think maybe the author had a reason but she just assumed that the reader could pick up on what it actually was perhaps? In the first story, Lana constantly runs from her mate, Seth and we’re given the impression that maybe it’s because she feels self conscious over her weight. We get this idea because she thinks Seth is putting her on when he compliments how beautiful she is. Furthermore, Denver, Seth’s good friend says he’s not attracted to “Big girls” which makes Lana feel spectacularly insecure since she is a big girl herself. However, when she finally does get together with Seth, she decides to reject him again anyway just because her friend Esme seems to have a spellbinding on her own mate...Honestly it didn’t make any sense to me either. There was no rhyme or reason why she rejected him. It was only when they came close to losing One another, that Lana finally comes to his senses. There are also a lot of holes in the story. This follows into the second story, which focuses on Denver and Esme. I probably hated the story more because we have an obviously devoted couple who are avoiding each other for over 10 years… Again with no rhyme or reason. Denver knows he’s in love with Esme but in his own mind feels that because he may not be able to give her children he stays away from her. He never tells her of his feelings mind you.🙄 Esme doesn’t realize this and thinks that Denver is just a self-serving man whore who decided he just didn’t want her. Neither one of these characters knows how to communicate these feelings at all with each other for 10 years??? Finally, when Denver discovers that Esme is actually his mate he decides he wants to put in the effort🧐 She, on the other hand wants nothing to do with him and it’s only because they are forced to be together that Denver starts fighting for her afterwards. She however, doesn’t explain why she hates him and she just keeps pushing him away. He gets frustrated and he walks away. Again neither one of them knows how to communicate what they’re feeling??? I mean she can’t tell him why she hates him? That would help and then maybe he would give her an explanation.I also hate that he never explains why he keeps saying that he doesn’t like big girls when she happens to be one too. There’s just so much unresolved and then suddenly they just come together in a happily ever after and it’s all very frustrating. It all feels so unresolved even though it’s very lusty and extremely steamy, (I mean the sex scenes are delicious), Which is why I even gave it a three. However, there’s something very unsatisfying about the whole thing. Finally, Esmay’s mother is a witch within the clan and we are never given an explanation as to why she resents Esmay her entire life and also why she would betray her daughter in the end. She’s just this additional villain that the author decides to put in the plot but there’s no explanation for it or for her. And there’s also no resolution on that front either. The chemistry between the characters was undeniable and undeniably hot… I just think that this story could’ve been phenomenal if the author actually took the time to develop background information on each character and to develop her conflict resolution within each story. She can’t assume that the reader understands what’s going on unless she actually writes it out lol.
This book has two shifter stories. One involves Lana, a latent or shiftless wolf unaware of her true nature, n Seth an alpha wolf. Seth n his friend Denver r on the scent of a hunter, an enemy bent on destroying the shifter clans. What they find instead is Lana. A latent, as her scent instantly triggers a mating response within Seth. Confusion, key to the response, as humans r not known to foster or be able to elicit such a strong reaction to generate within a shifter. Only another shifter destined to be a mate can generate such a response. Help is called by them as Lana collapses in Seth's arms after injuring herself from trying to flee from Seth's crazy attentions toward her. Esme, a witch, explains everything to Lana, including her latent abilities. Which Lana flatly refuses to believe until Esme mentions her murdered sisters name n also points out her uncanny ability to assess a person by smell, be they friend or foe. Or how she had a 6th sense of company before they arrived at her door. All qualities only a shifter can possess. Lana finally believes Esme but not the part about Seth being her mate ,even though her body yearns for his touch, her mind cannot fully process all the information being given in such a short time frame. But they take her back to the clan for her safety because the hunter was after her but their presence made him flee. The second story is about Esme n Denver. Both feel the mating urge but both fight their feelings. Nothing can come out of their feelings as no witch or shifter has ever mated or produced offspring. One thing the clans need, cubs as no cubs have been produced in years, n the one thing Esme desires above all else in the world. But Denver, after hearing her confession, withdraws n shuts down his feelings, knowing he can't fulfill her deepest wish. So much wasted anguish n time as the exact nature of Esme's true heritage is withheld by her mother from Esme n the wolf clan. I loved the dynamics between the characters n the energy they portrayed throughout the entire book. For example. Each shifter has his way to subdue n court his intended mate. But once they finally succumb to their mates advances it is so intoxicating sweet n utterly adorable. "You r my ideal mate, I never knew just how much I needed anything until you. My home, my family, my future, my everything. Whatever happens from here on out, we will fight together. Forever". So riveting, so touching, so ignoble. Kudos to the author.
Okay, imagine yourself taking the elevator and out of the blue a macho man starts demanding your name, your floor, and your full attention. With only person to stop him, which might have been a pinky person — you know, it’s there, but does nothing? This fast-pace introduction left very little space for the plot to become clear or even some background. The focus on solemnly on a guy meeting his mate, her confused by feelings, a witch coming out of nowhere, and when you thought more background would come up, you get disappointed. A bit.
Lana is what’s known as a latent: she has the genes of a she-wolf, but it’s inactive; however, it doesn’t mean she can’t fully mate, on the contrary. She feels the pull, but her human logic can’t wrap on it fast enough. She ends up being a latent wolf with powers, too. Complex, yes — I wish it was explored more; what we got however, was Seth behaving like he was in heat. The world building would’ve been nice to have wield its head, a little more forcefully, to enjoy the whole plot. Lana is somewhat kidnapped by a mad man right after Esme, the clan witch, is taken as well by the villain. Bad guy has a plot to harvest the power of witches, latents, and wolves. His madness is all about power and ready to feel like a God, while exterminating the trifecta of beings. While all of that happens, more very important points are made plot-wise.
Esme and Denver were swiftly continued in the story; it didn’t feel rushed, these two were sparkling and starting fires in the first part, but this is their part, and it’s complex and complicated. They love each other, but they have been playing “not interested card” a lot, so… there’s some hated laced with love here. You might get a little angry when Esme is forced to go to bed with a man she wants nothing to do with… but does she really? We learned earlier that Esme is just like Lana (it’s a secret, until their story), the difference is that she’s a clan witch, so you don’t have to read a human trying to fit in, just a witch/latent true mate to Denver to try to wrap your head around.
There are many characters mentioned more than once, you will not like Esme’s mother (you might even be inclined to think she’s in cahoots with the villain — I forgot both their names btw).
If you enjoy just the plot of the chase for the wolf, and the lamb falling hard and fast - this book is for you. If you like all that, good villain, good background and world build, you might lack a few factors — entertaining. And if you like descriptions, you’re in for SMELLS too.
Unfortunately, this one was a did not finish. I stopped at 60% into the book, and here are my impressions from what I have read. This novel is really short, only 294 pages long, and the author choose to cram 2 separate love stories in that book. The first half is Seth & Lana and the second half is Denver & Esme, and I think it was a mistake. The author had interesting ideas. A world in which werewolves had a 'wolf totem' inside them, where their magic came from, becoming a race on the verge of extinction because there wasn't any wolf birth since their all-mother died 10 years ago. She also introduced the notion of latents; people born from wolf ancestor and magic potential but skills that did not necessarily develop if they keep to the human world. Add to that witches; who are basically servants for the wolves, it made an interesting foundation for worldbuilding. Because the author chose to rush the story though, there wasn't any room for character development. Lana went from repulsed and scared (rightly so), to being basically kidnapped and in the snap of fingers, suddenly all-in after he basically raped her... all in 50 pages or so... the author totally lost me there.
After that, she gets kidnapped by the bad guys, breaks herself free because she instantly mastered her *powers* and runs after her mate she is completely in love with, and we learn that, of course, she is pregnant *queue eyerolls*
the whole thing was ridiculously incoherent, even by romance novel standards. And then snap, we start with Denver and Esme's story. Basically, 150 pages for each couple to fall passionately in love. I think it would have been much, much better for the author to take her time, properly build her world, her love story, giving each couple time (each one their own book) building their respective love stories in a plausible manner. The lore and the characters were interesting enough, it just all fell short unfortunately. It was my first time reading a book from this author, and I'm afraid she did not make a good enough impression for me to pick up other books from her.
I expected this to be a shifter story (or stories in this case) with a little witchiness thrown in. Instead, the focus is more on the magical witch aspect although there are definitely shifters. The books starts with a focus on Seth, a wolf shifter pack leader, and Lana. She is human and doesn't realize she's a latent with buried abilities. Turns out she's Seth's mate and when they encounter each other she's scared because she's still feeling the dread from the Hunters. They're a group that is set out to annihilate all shifters.
The second story focuses on Esme and Denver. He's Seth's second-in-command wolf shifter and she is a witch. They have been circling around each other for years and there is a lot of tension.
In both stories, Lana and Esme fight against their attraction to their mates. The reason for this is never really explained and I found that frustrating. It felt like there were some missed steps and it was just assumed the reader would understand but I didn't. This also happened with the jump to the ritual in Esme's story. I didn't understand the sudden need and felt like I missed the explanation for this.
The move from Seth and Lana to Denver and Esme was seamless and it really felt like one big story woven together. There were shifter and magical actions, steamy lust and solid characters. Very enjoyable once I decided to just give up on trying to figure out why they were fighting the attraction. The ending was good and I really hope Camille pays for her actions.
Part I – Lana didn’t believe in shifter and certainly not mates. When she comes into contact with Denver and Seth, two guys that looked more like bikers. She was in for a shock. Seth was drawn to the woman that smelled like chocolate and chili peppers. She was a spitfire too. She fought his advances, even pushed him back. It took Esme, the clans with to set things straight. Esme knows about latent shifters. They were human but also part shifter. It took a lot of talking and convincing for Lana to actually start believing it. But then all hell breaks loose. The women have to fight to escape capture. This is actually interesting. It is a different spin on a shifters world.
Part II – Having been saved by Lana and her mother Camille, Esme is in a spot. The clan now knows she too is a latent as well as a witch. She has also more power than any of the coven. I have to say this story was a bit aggravating at times. For one, she knew her and Denver were mates. She kept him at bay for so long. And then once it is revealed, the alpha makes a demand that pushes the envelope. I get the reason but I didn’t like the way he did it. And she kept on pushing never once saying why. THAT is what I was hoping would be resolved. Denver is a sweetheart. The only issue I had with him was his constant comments. He never said anything to resolve that either. Yes, they FINALLY settle down but man, I just wanted to slap them both.
Lana is returning to her apartment when she meets two, very large guys in the elevator. What Lana doesn’t know is that she is a latent wolf. She has these strange feelings to one of the guys. Seth is pack leader and a wolf shifter. As soon as he scents Lana he knows she’s his mate. There is a group, the Hunters, who want Lana and her powers.
Ok first of all, it really didn’t make sense. I was so confused it was like I missed several books before. It was mostly in Lana’s point of view. A couple of small parts were of Seth.
______________________________________
DENVER AND ESME… 3 stars
Esme is a witch and latent wolf. She is the healer in there clan and her family before her too. Denver is Seth’s second in command and was orphaned at a young age. They were inseparable until they became teenagers when Denver pushed Esme out of his life. Esme knows they are mates but is still hurt because of Denver’s treatment. When it becomes known that Esme is a latent wolf, she must mate or be killed. She mates with Denver but pushes him away. Denver is lured into a trap and Esme helps rescue him.
Just like Lana and Seth’s, it was confusing. Esme should have told Denver her problems with him. He always said mean things about big women and they weren’t for him. Most told by Esme’s point of view and a couple of paragraphs with Denver’s POV.
OMG, I loved this book! I’ve been reading mostly Rom-Coms, but now that I’ve read a shifter book, I’m gonna have to expand my taste in books. Christa Wick does a beautiful job, of portraying the shifter life, and the necessity for clans. Her writing included danger, lust, love, family support, and the workings of a witch within the clan. The meeting of Lana and Seth, in an elevator, was the beginnings of a true romance. This meeting brought Lana, into the middle of Seth’s clan, and also into danger. Seth, and other wolves save the life of Lana, and Esme, and this results in Seth and Lana becoming mates. The second part of the book, was the about Denver, and Esme. They had known each other for many years, but had become enemies, as they matured. When Denver realizes that Esme is in danger, he finally shows his true feelings, but is constantly rejected by Esme. A situation occurs, that causes Esme to choose a mate, and that mate becomes Denver. Esme continues to reject Denver, until his life is put in danger, she is the only one able to save him. This leads to both accepting the strength of their love. Eventually both couples obtain their HEA, with the excellent writing of Ms Wick, and I’ll recommend this book.
This is apparently two stories in one. The first one is about Lana and Seth and the second about Denver and Esme. Seth and Denver are shifters and its the story of how they get together with their respective mates.
This was mostly a meh book. Big reliance on sex scenes but not much on story building. In the first book, Seth meets Lana and immediately refuses to leave her. He either wants her to be spelled to forget them or she has to go with them. He was pretty overbearing, Lana seemed to accept the whole shifter thing and leaving her life way to easily. Esme seemed to have all this knowledge that didn't make sense. Many parts of the world building weren't really explained. And why Lana fell for Seth was never explained.
With Esme and Denver, I didn't like how the fact that he had been mean to her for years was just glossed over. The whole ritual wasn't explained clearly? Why did it have to happen? What was the significance? Why Esme? So much seemed unexplained that one kept trying to figure out what was happening.
Overall 2.5 stars. I wouldn't buy it. It was free on google play.
The first story was about Seth and Lana. He is an Alpha wolf and she is a latent shifter. Latents are so rare that they are viewed as either extinct or a myth. Lana has no idea she is anything but human so when Seth more or less assaults her the first time he lays eyes on her she is naturally resistant to his overtures. He takes advantage of their mate bond which causes Lana distress and unwillingness to deal with him further. Seth learns to be more circumspect in his wooing.
Second story: Denver was brought to the pack when he was found living on the streets as a young pup. Esme is a witch assigned to the pack along with her mother. She and Denver formed an instant bond. They grew up as best friends until he more or less abandons their friendship when she said she wanted to have a large family. He knew wolves and witches can’t pair and procreate so left in the hopes that she would find someone able to give her what she desired. Their mate bond blossoms later but Esme refused to acknowledge it due to what she felt was Denver’s betrayal. She discovers she is also a latent so her dreams could come true with him. She still doesn’t reciprocate his ardor until he almost dies.
Just finished this amazing series starter and let me tell you IT IS HOT! Whoa baby these two stories were so fast paced and absolutely kept my attention start to finish. The first latent shifter has been found and she’s not thrilled about it. However, her mate is very excited. Life has not been kind to Lana and she can’t believe Seth would really be into her plus at first she’s pretty sure he’s crazy. Super sexy and hot but definitely crazy! Their love story is fast paced and the bedroom scenes will light your fire. I absolutely loved their story. Next was Denver and Esmer’s story and it was very complicated. Both secretly in love but holding back for their own reasons. This was a heartbreaking love story that had many highs and lows and was so great! Two people who feel like outcasts but feel whole together and yet can’t seem let it happen. Their story has lots of misunderstandings and danger but such a great HEA. I can’t wait to read more in this super sexy series. I love this author so much, she’s awesome!
I thought this was a great book and an excellent start to this series. A delicious, fast-paced blend of shifters, witches, fated mates, drama, danger, emotions, steam, intensity, suspense, twists, secrets, sweetness and romance is skillfully woven into an engaging web that quickly pulls you in and entices you to linger. This read offers up two different couple's stories in one irresistible package. Once I started reading I had to say up late as I dared and then sneak every spare reading opportunity I could the next day to finish. I just loved Lana and Seth and Esme and Denver. They really deliver the feels and the swoon while tugging at your heartstrings and having you try to anticipate what will happen next. Can not wait to read more of this terrific series. This is my frank, freely posted review.
3.5 stars on this one from me. The positives first: This was a fun read-it's like two novellas that were put together as one. Plot was pretty good and there were some surprising twists in there that were entertaining. For the most part, the sex scenes were well-written, though there were a few cringe terms used. But all in all, it was enjoyable!
Although I did finish this book, and may even read more from this author at some point, there were some editing issues with this book that distracted from the story. Also, story development needs to be done as there are many times where the writing is just not detailed enough to even know what the heck is going on, leaving an awful lot of blanks for the reader to fill in themselves.
All in all, I'd recommend this to someone looking for a light, sexy read, with a few caveats thrown in.
Lana (rhymes with sauna) has no idea what she is. She only knows that her gut feelings and other senses are heightened around people. When she unknowingly gets into the elevator with two shifters, one that is her mate, all hell breaks loose. How will they convince her to come with them when she doesn’t believe what they or she are?
Witch Esme has been on her own her whole life. Her mother, while there, rejected her at every turn. When orphan shifter Denver was brought to her mother for healing, Esme took it on her three-year-old self to help heal him. But she isn’t a shifter so she can’t be with him. Denver knows she wants children, so he distances himself from her. It just can’t be. Or can it?
Two couples for the one in this action paced swoon worthy shifter romance read. Seth is Alpha of the pack and Lana is new to this whole world being a Latent who is also Seth mate, it puts her in more danger when the hunters are set to destroy them all. Denver and Esme, are fated mates but can a witch and shifter really be together? they try to deny it but the longer they protect the harder the fall. well written great story building and character development through out, the story keeps your attention and leaves you craving more!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loved the first story. The second one sucked once I found out Denver had screwed a bunch of other chicks while scaring away esme’s suitors after HE walked away. You don’t screw others when you love someone. Not in the mate world. His body shouldn’t have been able to get turned on by another after meeting her even if he mentally didn’t realize it was his mate. So essentially it’s cheating and sick thing that happened. Especially how he was fine taking her virginity that was ordered by the alpha. As if he hadn’t broken her heart enough. Wrong. And I’m pissed. Why would anybody write something so miserable and degrading for a woman mate. It’s disgusting and now I’m depressed. Thanks a lot.

Two great reads in one book Lana doesn't believe that any man would want her so when a Alpha wolf Seth comes to save her she is scared. Seth has finally found his mate now he just needs her to leave with him before the hunters come for her. Lana is a latent a very rare woman. But can Lana really trust them? Esme & Denver have a troubled relationship they both keep fighting their attraction but that all changes when she is given no choice but to go through the mating ritual. Denver knows that he messed up but he couldn't give her what she wanted but things have changed. Do they get a second chance? Great characters good storylines.
I really struggled to read this! It was just all over the place and I found myself frequently lost with the storyline because it bounced around so much or added in details that I wasn’t sure what was going on. Pros: the witches & power they kinda wielded was cool. I like that the witches were tied to the wolves by a blood pact…that has potential. But I wish the author would have put more time into character development and a solid, steady, unraveling plot so it didn’t read so disconnected and underdeveloped.
Overall: I wanted to like it but, No. Just no…. :(
I have no issue with fated mates, but this book has zero relationship development (or even a freaking ATTEMPT at doing so) and felt way too dub-con for my taste.
He gets a whiff of her, says “you’re mine”, she has zero knowledge of the shifter world and understandably says “no”, and he completely ignores it. He spends absolutely ZERO time trying to get to know her or wooing her, he literally just keeps “pushing his wolf” at her mentally until she breaks down and says ok after he also forces kisses on her. Which he was in a hurry for because he could smell she would ovulate soon and he wanted to impregnate her. I wont be wasting my time on any other book in this series.
Two couples, one enemy. Will either relationship survive the damage or the struggle? Lana and Seth's love is anything but smooth. Unknowing about the greater world around her, an unexpected elevator ride changes Lana's life. Will she accept the strangeness that her future holds? Esme's childhood crush is a hard man to like. His playboy antics and cruel words strike sadness in her heart. Can she trust that he truly wants to be with her? Can either woman believe the animal inside their partner is ready for the drama that comes?
DNF… it’s just not written deep enough. It’s shallow. The beginning was catchy. They basically meet in the elevator, she’s his mate, he knows if and is trying to stop from wolfing out and then a witch friend shows up to talk to Lana to get her to understand it all. Apparently she’s latent and just doesn’t know it and they all have some magic or something. It’s weird. He’s just found his mate but leaves her alone for a few days…. Yeah not my type of alpha shifter. The sexy scene was mediocre and then she still wants to leave? So weird I had to just give up. NOT worth the money at all

This book was very good. This is Seth's and Lana's story. Lana is the human descendant of shifters, she is able to trigger the mating response, and she has done just that with Seth. Seth is the leader of his pack and the pack has been hunted to almost extinction by the hunters. To find Lana, who can trigger his mating response, is almost unheard of. It means that she could help save the packs. But, the hunters know she is out there and are out to bring her down. Lots of danger and suspense. Highly recommend.
3 stars - to be fair, i only read the first half of this story (seth and lana) as i knew i wouldn’t like the second story.
it was an okay story. it was super short and i wish there was more focus on them actually being a couple. i feel like they went from 0-100 really quickly. they go from refusing to see each other, and then all of a sudden they have sex, then lana asks to be away from seth as she made a mistake, and then all we see is the couple being pregnant 2 weeks in the future.
it’s pretty average wolf shifter type beat, super short; and 1-2 steamy scenes for this couple.
