Opposites attract, right?

Felix had always been a relaxed, go with the flow, make no plans and see what happens kind of guy. He lived, he laughed, he spoke to ghosts. Pretty standard if you asked him. To the rest of the population? Not so much.
But once a spirit calls him to Daydream, he gets caught up in a race to find out what happened to him. The quest for answers throws him right in front of Daydream’s uptight librarian, and while riling him up is a lot of fun, the secrets unraveling in Daydream might be much more sinister than Felix expected.

Nicholas had always had a perfectly quiet, perfectly organized, and perfectly mapped out life. He got up, he worked, he spent the day ignoring the lies told around him. Anyone who envied his gift was welcome to take it. Any volunteers? He didn't think so.
When a random guy breezes into town with ridiculous claims about mysterious ghosts, Nick knows he’s telling the truth. When he finds out that the stranger might hold the key to unlocking the chest of mysteries plaguing Daydream, and Nick’s heart, he’s forced to confront a truth of his own.
Tangled together they'll try to navigate ghosts, mysteries, and feelings neither of them were prepared for.

**This book is the third in a series. It contains magical settings, cozy mystery vibes, a grumpy character falling for a sunshine one, and a whole lot of fun characters you've met in previous books. While it can be read as a standalone it's best enjoyed with the other titles in the series.

This was amusing and frustrating, sexy and a little annoying, full of action but also dragging. Well, overall a good book, I had more moments where I was chuckling inside than being bored. Still, the book would certainly have benefited if the plot had gotten going a little sooner. As it is, most of it is crammed into the last 100 pages and feels a little rushed.
The remaining pages before that are mainly there for Nick and Felix to get closer to each other. Which isn't an easy thing to do, because they are completely different and Nick can't admit to himself for some time that Felix's annoying nature is actually quite amusing.

Who hadn’t had a librarian fantasy in their life? He just needed to loosen up some of those shirt buttons and get his hair messy. Felix was enthusiastically volunteering himself for the job. 🤩

“So… I was thinking,” Felix said after only a few minutes of blissful silence.
“A shock to your system, I’m sure,” Nick said, and Felix snapped his head up, an almost maniacal grin spreading on his face.
“Did you just make a joke? That was a joke! Oh my god.” He pretend-swooned, making Nick regret ever opening his mouth.
😂

Another thing that doesn't quite come across is that Nick is actually completely attracted to Felix.
It only really becomes clear when they are already close to having sex ... that is perhaps the only point of criticism that really carries weight for me. I can brush everything else aside because the book as a whole is convincing in the end. But somehow there are a few hints missing that Nick is attracted to Felix. They are just too well hidden, at least I had the feeling that I was missing something.
As for the plot: I KNEW IT!!! I already had that feeling before. That fucking stupid asshole. Poor poor West ... Sooo, now of course I have to read the last book, because I absolutely have to have a happy ending for West, otherwise I won't be happy anymore.

“Define adorable.”
“Adorable. Delightful. So cute I want to squeeze you until your head pops off.”

I love the world of Daydream, Colorado and enjoyed Whirlwind but… and it’s a BIG but… I had serious problems with the main characters and their relationship development that drastically affected my overall enjoyment of the book and which I just can’t let slide or overlook.

I’ll start with the good:
I LOVE the world and the world building! I am always immersed and entertained by and in Daydream and Daydreamers.
I enjoyed the mystery and the search for clues and answers.
I always love and am entertained by the side characters. And I always want more of them.
In my review of Heartwood, I mention that I want Malachi’s story and while we don’t get that in this book, we get more Malachi and I appreciated that. I also mentioned that I was intrigued by and wanted more West and we definitely got more West which I loved.

In these ways, it seems like we should be well on our way to a 5 star review, right?

Unfortunately the entire story was spoiled by what I feel is hugely problematic. It’s such a disappointment because this series and story had the potential to be great.

Individually, I didn’t like either Felix or Nick. I didn’t believe the attraction or understand it. But it gets worse…

Felix is really outgoing and seems extroverted. The kind of guy that’s always on and is the life of the party. Nick is uptight. He’s a perfectionist and obsessive compulsive and as a obsessive compulsive perfectionist myself, I appreciate that. But he also seems to perpetually have a pinecone up his ass. When they meet, Nick makes it clear he’s not interested in Felix and is annoyed by him. The next time they see each other, Nick is having lunch at a restaurant and Felix walks up and takes food right off Nick’s plate, pops it in his mouth and sits down at the table, refusing to leave despite Nick’s protests and pleas to be left alone. He proceeds to invite himself to dine with Nick and continues swiping food off his plate and eating it. In real life, if someone, a STRANGER, did this to me, I would NOT BE OK. It’s invasive and rude and presumptuous and CREEPY AF!

It doesn’t stop there though… Felix persists not only to push Nick’s boundaries, but bulldoze right over them again and again and again. On its own, this is extremely problematic but it happens in every early interaction between the two and outwardly Nick doesn't indicate that he enjoys Felix’s pushing or presence, he resists it.

He’d noticed the shiver that went through Nick when he’d caged him in his chair as they searched for West. Nick might not like him. But he wanted him anyway. And Felix had nothing against hate sex.

This is so gross! IRL this would be sexual harassment and presumptuous. He CAGED Nick in his chair and presumed the shiver was lust rather that revulsion. I don’t care that he presumed correctly, Nick is equally attracted to and LOATHS Felix at this point. I would be furious if some near stranger TRAPPED me and assumed my shiver was anything but FEAR. WTF?

It was the face you made when someone pushed you so far you were contemplating either murdering them or fucking them.
Felix hoped for the latter.
“Are you just here to harass me?” Nick growled.
“I’m free for the rest of the day if you have another alternative. I’d do anything with you, to you. Either or.”
Nick flushed scarlet. “Goodbye.”

Here’s the thing, if a person is looking at you with annoyance and/or loathing, jumping to the conclusion they want to hate fuck you is wildly delusional, creepy and just gross. In the day of MeToo and toxic masculinity and entitlement, the messages in this book are really out of touch.

The uptight librarian could front and pretend all he wanted. Felix felt the way Nick responded to him. No amount of snark or glaring could hide it. Nick wanted him.

Do people actually say no when they really mean yes? If they do, they’re part of the problem because it reinforces the problematic and false belief that if you just keep pushing, they’ll relent. And even if they do, can anyone feel comfortable and good that they didn’t just cave? That they truly want it rather than were simply tired of being harassed? I’m sure there are people with great boundaries that would find my observations and musings strange, but I’m one of those people whose boundaries used to be super fucked up, who caved to pressure and felt sick and awful and violated. Granted there’s no power dynamic happening here but the point still stands, relentlessly pushing other’s boundaries is incredibly problematic.

Both Felix and Nick recognize and admit that Felix eventually wears Nick down. Felix says directly to Nick “I wore you down once” implying he can do it again. NO, just no.

I could keep going and going with the quotes because basically their entire relationship and interactions are Felix pushing Nick and Nick either genuinely resisting or eventually admitting only to himself that he thinks he should resist and that he wants to resist. Nick also thinks to himself that he should play hard to get which is equally problematic because it’s the kind of behavior that encourages others to question and doubt your boundaries and your sincerity when you say no, reject their advances or act disinterested. Seriously, these messages are so fucked.

It did my head in!

And in the middle of all this problematic, gross messaging that encourages rape culture and is wildly out of touch, Nick invites Felix in while slightly tipsy. Felix declines because he doesn’t want to take advantage of Nick while he’s not 100% sober. It’s great messaging thrown into the dumpster fire of Felix being obnoxiously and relentlessly pushy and gross and Nick playing games and hard to get.

Beyond all that, I never did understand the attraction between Felix and Nick. Felix was obnoxious and pushy and didn’t respect Nick’s boundaries and Nick was uptight and cranky and genuinely finds Felix overbearing and exhausting.

So yeah, as you can probably tell, I hated the relationship. I hated it so much that if the rest of the story wasn’t so great, I’d give the book negative stars. Past pushing Nick’s boundaries, Felix is a charming character but that doesn’t negate how offensive and problematic his relentless pushing is and I just can’t in good conscience overlook it. Messaging like this is damaging, it reinforces the idea that if you’re just persistent enough, if you just push enough, you’ll entice the other person to like you, to want you, to be with you. It’s the idea that if you bulldoze someone’s boundaries instead of taking them at their word, you’ll discover they really didn’t mean it when they show no interest in you and when they outwardly reject you. And I’m not here for it.

So aside from the “romance” (I just threw up in my mouth a little), I actually loved the story and I want to continue the series. From the author’s note at the end, I know who the next couple in the series will be and REALLY want their story, so far I’ve LOVED both of those characters. I just hope the next book is not riddled with problematic themes and toxic masculinity given the problems I had with this book and Blindspot.

I struggled to get through this.

The connection between the MC’s was just… off. By the end I didn’t feel much. And I don’t understand why these authors insist on leaving the big relationship conflict until the VERY END. Like, last 10%. It feels rushed at that point and I couldn’t enjoy the big gesture.

The mystery in this wasn’t really a mystery. They wrote it so that when the characters in the book are all shocked about their discoveries, we as readers pretty much knew it all from the beginning so that was kind of a bummer.

There was also a lot of repeated words and phrases, sometimes in the same scene. Usually when it came the description of physical interactions between MC’s. Just felt a bit amateur and I didn’t notice that in the other books.

I like this magical world so much and I will keep reading but I will say the strength in the writing is the world, the magic, and the characters, but the relationships have been the weakest part of every book so far.

I love a good grumpy sunshine book. Felix was a chaotic golden retriever who loved to ruffle feathers, especially Nick’s. Nick was obsessive about order, very much written as a classic white autistic guy. They both had oodles of compassion, though Felix was better at showing it. The plot wasn’t necessarily shocking because the hints were dropped with a heavy hand. They did well together as a couple in the end, though Nick dragged his feet like crazy.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: discussion of death and after death, grief, missing person, violence, blood, captivity, memory tampering

Yet another exciting read form this duo with interesting twists and compelling romance.

The book is the third part of the main instalments in the Daydream Colorado series. It can be read alone, but you will definitely get the best experience reading them in order. It’s worth it especially for those moments of “aaaah, I’ve noticed that in book X, that’s so clever”.

I love the concept of this small magical community and everything it brings to the table. The authors created a world that is almost as alive in real life as it is in the books. Every character matters, they are there to make the town feel full of energy and comfort. Not once did I think someone was put there just to further the plot and then disappeared forever.

Speaking of the plot - it’s so good! It can be split into two parts - the romance and the overarching narrative that continues throughout the books. Both stand firmly on their own, but combined give the reader a fantastic combination that never gets stale or dragged-out.

Felix and Nick are perfect for each other (especially if you believe in opposites attracting). They play well off each other and both have their ups and downs, but also their moments of growth.

The authors managed to juggle many plots and twists in this book (if you thought the second instalment was a bit slow then this will be the book for you) and they’ve done this exceptionally well. Everything is connected, there are no loose threads or unresolved plot points. I also love that every character has it’s own variation when it comes to writing, makes every single one of them unique.

Wait till you meet Emerson - he’s by far my favourite and I can’t wait for his story to come. Won’t tell you more, you’ll have to read to find out what I mean.

Lastly I’d like to note two things that aren’t specific to this book, but more to the authors:

- I love the way they go about consent. It’s the second time they’ve made sure to include it properly in situations that otherwise might have seemed sketchy. Well done!
- I can’t stress enough how much I appreciate the fact that they listen to our (reader’s) feedback and clearly incorporate it in their later works.
5 stars is a no-brainier. Put it near the top of your TBR today!

(I’ve received a copy of this book from the authors before its release in exchange for an honest review. They had no say in the content of my review. I’ve also pre-ordered my own copy with my own money.)

Uptight Nicolas finally comes undone.

Nicolas and Felix are both wonderful characters who are polar opposites. Felix is pretty much a human version of a happy puppy who goes where his intuition tells him whilst Nicolas leads a very rigid and organised life and he’s a tad uptight if anything rocks that boat!

The overall story arc continues but this time the mystery surrounding what is causing all the problems in Daydream is finally solved with all the characters from previous books helping out. (I’m avoiding spoilers so I won’t say more than that)

Whilst working together Felix does get Nicholas to loosen up a smidge and it turns out that Nicholas doesn’t really hate him. So begins a bit of back and forth before they give in to the chemistry and heat things up between them.

I enjoyed this engaging read and how the mystery and the romance were well balanced. There’s a dash of angst, some steamy times, some giggles from the antics of Felix and a HEA that made me smile. Loving this series and there’s still more to come when Emmerson gets his story told.

something I forgot but was just so weird to me

Another thing I just find so weird and what always brings me out of my reading flow is the characters, even themselves, being referred to with their profession.

Let me give you an example:
Let's say an adult male (hairdresser) goes to a restaurant with his father (a bank teller).

Scenario 1: How I would write it eg. => POV the "him" is the adult male
The older man was leaning back in his seat looking at him expectedly. He had been daydreaming and didn't hear him ask a question.

or

His father was leaning back in his seat looking at him expectedly. He had been daydreaming and didn't hear the older man ask a question.

Scenario 2: POV still the adult male how it was often written in AM Rose' books
The bank teller was leaning back in his seat looking at him expectedly. The hairdresser had been daydreaming and didn't hear him ask a question.

Now... What does being a bank teller have to do with anything?????? Or in the books case being a librarian or a clairvoyant or a baker or a handyman? Saying "the librarian" would only make sense if the person you are referring to does something according to his or her persona . Like: It was not his father sitting there anymore, instead looking at him was the school teacher, all stern and proper.

Anyone else feeling the same?

original review

*** 3.5 treating it as short story book stars as there are some damn good books in my regular 3.5* reads***

So, I liked this one best for now. Even though most of the story hinges on people not asking the right question or giving people the whole answers. Tell me, if you realize that people are people, what would be the first people you would talk to? Head witch, yes, witch doctor, yes. And what would be the first thing you would do? See what they all have in common, do they go to the same places, do they interact with the same people, do the eat or drink the same things? And please... they were asking one of the right questions right at the start and we were even given the answer right at the start. What happend about a year ago, at it wasn't just poor Tate that stumbled into Daydream. So why would not one person say something to that affect when musing about who might have come to town in that time frame or what might have happend there.

Before I tell you that I liked Nick and Felix' relationship, just let me get the following off my chest. Please, please, please... stop making people stupid just so to keep tension in the relationship between the MC's.

"Does that mean he's staying for the foreseeable future?"
"Who, Emmerson?"
"No, Felix. He's got a job here now." He chuckled. "That's how it started with me. Daydream draws you in."
the question touched a nerve because Nick had no idea. Felix's very nature was transient and spontaneous. It wasn't his place to pry, but he couldn't say the question had never crossed his mind.

Now let me ask you... Why is it not his place to pry?????? If someone is interested in you, flirts with you, tries to get you in bed, tries to date you I would think it is a very valid question to ask someone, especially if you are not someone who likes to sleep around – which Nick isn't.

Also, I have to agree with another reviewer Quietly Kat on that how Felix flirted and inserted himself in Nick's life was rather questionable. I'm and extraverted introveret, meaning that I can enjoy being around people to an extent but love my privacy and being alone. Oftentimes I actually need that piece to recharge and settle myself. So when I read how Felix just invites himself to a dinner with Nick I could just fume. In Nick's place I would have stood up and ordered my dinner to go. She also makes some other great points that I have to agree with, like insinuating Nick means Yes when he actually says No and go away. This for me would border on stalking and harassment which would turn me off so fast you would get whiplash.

Other than that, Felix is truly a whirlwind and a breath of fresh air. He is respectful when need be and crossing boundaries the same. His general outlook on life seems positiv and he takes everything in stride... magic really exists - cool ... bedsheets folding themselves - practical ... driving into town without reservations or clue what he will find - everything will work out how it should ... dead end - I'll just post this flyer and clues will find me. Nick on the other hand is not negative but rather likes everything just so and while being in Felix' company can sometimes be a bit exhausting for Nick he also gives him purpose, makes him experience a world outside his set parameters - after they got together, I already wrote my thoughts on how they came to be -.

I love this series so much! So this is book 3 & really shouldn't be read as a stand-a-lone as there is an ongoing story line. So we have Felix who sees ghosts & tries to help them & is drawn to places before finding out why he is needed. In this case, he is pulled to Daydream. I liked the quiet, OCD Nick from the first time we met him. There is an overall ARC in the book with the woods dying off & Darian trying to stop the spread of whatever it is that is killing them & healing what is dying. So Felix meets West, our ghost, and is having a hard time trying to figure out what is needed. West isn't able to give him any clues on how he was killed or a location so he can find the body. And what is even worse, no one seems to know who West was. So while Felix try's to break down Nick's walls, with the snark & humor that so fits Felix, there is the investigation on what happened to West & why. I did not see what happened coming. The person behind West & forest didn't immediately jump out at me & nor the reasoning behind it. It was a good slow romance & a really good mystery. I love so many of these side characters & hope we get more books from Daydream.

I received a copy of this book from the authors and this is my honest opinion.

I loved Felix and Nick and how their opposite personalities meshed together. Every interaction was a joy. My new favorite couple from this universe. Plus, seeing Daydream though Felix's eyes and child like curiosity and wonder made the magical world shine.
The mystery worked less well. I figured out the bad guy and the memory loss source before 50% mark and it was frustrating how everybody was missing the obvious.
Looking forward to Emmerson and West story and hope for more Mal and Hawthorne.

Whirlwind is the whimsical third installment (plus prequel) in the Daydream, Colorado series. It combines a sweet love story with a magical mystery. If you’re new to the series, Daydream is a charming (pun intended) little burg where everyone has magical abilities. It’s not on any map and non-magicals don’t know of its existence. Each book features a newcomer or returning resident and an existing townsperson whose special gift is the focus of the story. In this book, a new aspect of the paranormal is introduced with Felix, a clairvoyant who sees and talks to ghosts. He’s the first clairvoyant in nearly a century to grace the sidewalks of Daydream.

Felix is a nomad, traveling to help one spirit after another wherever they may be. He feels a “tug” pulling him to a new destination where a ghost needs his assistance. He relies heavily on his strong intuition which is always correct. Felix is spontaneous and carefree, and never plans ahead. He ends up in Daydream after his instincts lead his car to the small town, but it’s days before he discovers why he was drawn there.

Felix is immediately mesmerized by cute librarian, Nick, and directs every ounce of his flirtatious nature toward him. They are opposites in personality: Felix boisterous and impulsive, Nick reserved and orderly to a fault. Felix puts the full-court press on Nick to try and win him over, but mostly just annoys him. It’s a slow burn to get there but eventually Felix wears him down and Nick's annoyance is all pretend. The UST builds up and by the time they hop into bed, they're ravenous for each other.

Whirlwind has more of a mystery element when Felix, Nick, and head witch, Malachai, realize that Felix’s not quite normal ghost, West, is somehow connected to odd occurrences in the town, including Mason’s glances in Blindspot, and Tate’s arrival and Darian’s forest dying off in Heartwood. The town must come together to solve the mystery and stop the evildoer.

The authors have several strengths in their storytelling that have been consistent throughout the series: imaginative plot development incorporating the enchanting magical elements; wonderful world building; and standout characterization. The leading men and the side characters are all some combination of intriguing, sweet, sexy, and quirky, and all are highly memorable. Each is utilized in subsequent novels to create an ever-increasing cast interwoven into the narrative. Sage, Ben, Drew, Mason, Darian, Tate, Dylan, and Jamie all appear in varying degrees. Malachai, his partner and inn owner, Hawthorne, and Nick's roommate and witch trainee, Emmerson – and their outré personalities – play pivotal roles. Like all of their predecessors, Felix and Nick are unique and wholly lovable.

I need to give a shout-out to another creative, illustrated cover, this time depicting the interior of Nick's library with floor to ceiling bookshelves, dual spiral staircases, and levitating books.

Each installment of the Daydream, Colorado series begins at the town's magical population sign which changes with the arrival of each new resident. It began at 3,047 and with the additions of Ben, Drew, Tate, and now Felix, the population has reached 3,051. I’m not sure if any future books are in the works, but I would love to see the sign roll over again. There’s certainly the groundwork for at least a short story featuring Emmerson and West (please!) This book can standalone but I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t want to read the entire series from the beginning in the prequel, Daydream. (It and the short story, Mischief, are available on Prolific Works.) If you’re in the mood for something cute and different, give this charmer a try.

One of the most difficult things for me to do is to write a review for a book that I loved so much that I'm lost for words. So I'll keep this relatively short. First let me say that this is not a standalone. Well, it is as the romance goes, but the plot is unraveling from the book one and mystery of the woods is resolved in this one. So if you haven't visited this quirky, magical little town yet, full of intriguing characters, please do. You are in for a treat! In this series you'll meet an array of different characters, but you won't be lost for a second. Every character is unique with a voice of their own and a story just begging to be told. Each book ends in a HEA for a couple introduced but at the same time opens many new possibilities. I can't wait to read Emerson's and West's story.
Frankly this book caught me by surprise, because Nick was not one of my favorite characters in this series. I was rooting for Mal/Thorne story (still am... 😁), but I couldn't be more wrong. I wasn't even through half of it when I realized that it became my favorite in the series so far. Opposites attract trope was done perfectly, with just right amount of humor, some angst, action and heat (Nick hides some surprises up his perfectly fitting, immaculate sleewe...) and it was a perfect balance between developing relationship and mystery. The ending was moving and so fitting! Probably one of the the most perfect endings I've read - ever. It made me feel, brought tears in my eyes, it made smile from ear to ear - all that without of an ounce of exaggeration and suggary sweetness that I can't stand. Writting is exceptionally good, that's what reeled me in from the first chapters of book one, because this is definitely not the trope I usually go for. And I picked up book one out of couriosty - the cover was out of the box, intriguing, and when you read the books you realize how amazing this cover artist is. She was able to capture this author's duo imagination and the gist of the stories in perfect detail. It's something I would be proud to hang on my wall and enjoy on daily basis. Let me finish with a comment of the best selling author - I think she won't mind if she's reading this by any chance. She made that comment in a chat after reading only a tiny fraction of the book one: "That's some gorgeous prose! The world needs your books."

I need to start out by saying I love this series! The cover of the very first book was so intriguing I had to read it and I am so glad I did.

Welcome back to Daydream! If you have not read any of the other books in this series, LEAVE NOW! DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER! Stop what you are doing and go read this amazing series, then if you must, come back and read my little review. This series has a continuing story line and reading in order is very important.

The characters that we have met and loved are all there, and sadly the woods are still dying, but another soul has been drawn to Daydream and he just might help. I love Felix, the new MC. He is everything I have always wished I was. He is spontaneous and intuitive and follows his gut. Sadly I am much more like Nick, the librarian.... I actually was a librarian in a former life. But I digress, Felix blows into town and Nick's well ordered and color- coded life is suddenly off-kilter. In fact, my new favorite book quotation comes from this book and sums Nick up perfectly, "the post-its weren't even color-coded. It was mayhem." Another great quotation shows us just how Felix is going to stir up a whirlwind....(see what I did there) Felix, when responding to Nick's outrage over not following Bulletin Board rules says, "TLDR I'm just looking for someone and libraries are usually a great place to start" Side-note, anytime you want to see a librarian's eye twitch tell them TLDR!! This book is as good if not better than the books that came before it in the series.
The characters are very well developed, not just the MCs but also the secondary characters.

Having said all that, I am one of those book nerds who must reread the entire series any time a new book comes out. This time, because of time restraints I could not do so. I really wish that I had done so, this series has such a continuing story line that I felt that I had forgotten important bits, and felt out of step.
And I hadn't even had any tea!

I was so excited to read Whirlwind after meeting Nick the stuffy librarian in the previous book. I wanted someone to show up and cause chaos in his perfectly ordered life and Felix was exactly that person. In fact the title could sum up the progression of their relationship perfectly. Felix came into Nicks life like a whirlwind of sass. He was the spontaneity to Nicks careful planning. The two couldn't be more opposite, but despite all that they can't help but fall for each other. It was absolutely adorable. All the times Felix made Nick blush kept a smile on my face.

The mystery moved along at a good pace too. We finally have the answer to the question of what is going on with the woods in Daydream. Not to mention quite a few peeks into Thorne and Mal's relationship. I know the authors said they don't plan on a book for Mal but this is me begging them to. I need more of the mysterious head witch, and now I need more of Thorne. He might be even scarier and mysterious than Mal and that's quite a feat. Fingers crossed Mal starts talking.

I am also super excited about the next book in the series. Emmerson is SUCH a sweetie pie. I want to be his friend and cuddle him all the time. He's so exuberant and I loved how much him and Felix got along. I also loved how Thorne and Mal doted on him like he was their son, not just Mal's apprentice. It was sweet seeing the ice melt for a moment when either of them looked at Emmerson. I can't wait for him to fall in love in book 4.

PS: DO NOT READ THE BLURB FOR BOOK 4 WHEN IT IS PUBLISHED BEFORE YOU FINISH THIS BOOK. There are reasons and I need you to take my word for it. You will thank me after.

Sweeping changes

Someone has once again stumbled into Daydream, but this time the person has a type of magic and a reason to be there. Felix is a medium and follows where he feels called by his magic to help, which has lead him to Daydream. But Felix doesn't actually know about the magical world so finding out is a delight and a bit confusing because his current ghost to help seems to be affected by magic. And where better than to figure out this problem than from the magical librarian?

Nick loves order and organization and is very particular about his life. With his magical ability to tell if people are lying he finds it hard to really be comfortable at all times with people. When Felix blows into town, full of chaos and energy and unusual questions about ghosts and person that doesn't exist, Nick is annoyed by this disturbance. But Felix is persistent in his work and Nick does feel an attraction to the human whirlwind. When the magic covering up Felix's calling starts to show a wider connection to all of Daydream and maybe even to the problems that have been occurring the two find that they are in it together if they hope to get all the residents through what is going on.

The couple at the core of this book were really fun. They have a bit of an antagonistic relationship with how they are opposites, but not without matching well. They can be serious and truthful with each other and never push past into something either of them don't want. They work better as a relationship than as colleagues so the work being a puzzle that they are trying to solve was perfect, bringing in each of their strengths. It was a great thing to watch it all build and grow, all while the mysteries of Daydream were finally uncovered!

Whirlwind is a very sweet grumpy/sunshine story. It took a little while for me to get into it, but by the time I had about 40% it was getting good!
Felix is definitely a happy go lucky, outgoing, ray of sunshine. Nicholas is a buttoned up, stuffy, OCD, creature of habit. I really disliked Nicholas at first, he was kind of an a**hole. But as the story develops and we learn more about him he becomes a more enjoyable character.

I loved the mystery of West Park’s ghost and the fact that no one in daydream remembers him is intriguing and wrapped in mystery. The path the main character is Mustique to unravel the mystery is well written, well developed and has a somewhat unexpected conclusion.

Overall I enjoyed the story, I loved the way Felix tried to stay on the down low but was really bad at it. His purchasing of random items at the magic shop was pretty hysterical. I loved Emerson and I hope his and West's story is available soon.

MC development: 10/10 (well developed, each character had a distinctive voice)
World Building: 8/10 (easy to picture, some of the rules of this universe were unclear but I suspect they will be developed in future books)
Heat: 6/10 (once Nicholas finally goes in the heat level definitely rises but only enough to move the story along.)::
Humor: 6/10 (definitely had me chuckling in a couple spots)
Length: 9/10 (There were a couple short sections that seems to drag on but overall it was good)
Meet cute: 9/10 (I had my suspicions about the culprit but the story was written in a way that I was not positive)
Overall: 8/10 (would recommend)

This was such a engaging mystery combined with a fun grumpy/sunshine romance pairing.

Felix had arrived at Daydream convinced there was a ghost that needed his help. Instead, he found West, a not so typical ghost, he discovered a magical town and he met broody and standoffish Nicholas. Felix and Nicholas were amazingly written. Felix's joy of living reached me from the pages as did his delight for every small thing. It was actually his happy go lucky attitude that grated on Nicholas's nerves, also because he couldn't fight the strong pull toward Felix, who he'd initially considered superficial. I couldn't get enough of these two men together. They were complete opposits, the itinerant ghost-talker and the firmly rooted librarian, with Felix that just breezed through life and Nicholas who needed the comfort of routines and plans...opposites yet undoubtedly perfect for each other.

As Felix tried to win Nicholas over, he also got himself involved in the mystery of who wanted to hurt Daydream. That meant working together with some people from town that soon became his friends, and with the resident ghosts, in an intriguing hunt for clues that eventually led to the discovery and confrontation of the villain.

I had so much fun reading this book. The romance between Felix and Nicholas was entertaining and sweet, and the mystery kept me engaged. The best part, though, was seeing all the charming characters from the previous books and the new ones introduced, watching them interact throughout the story. With magic or not, I love them all and I can't wait to meet them again in future books of this series.

It's great to be back in Daydream and have Nicholas get his own story. Felix really brings the rigid, slightly OCD Nicholas out of his set ways as well as shedding light, and many more questions, on the issues that Daydream has been having over the past year or two.
Felix is a clairvoyant and follows his instincts to Daydream where he's confused by what he finds regarding the ghost in need who no one remembers but then excited by the sexy and intriguing librarian. Felix has a totally different personality and energy level to Nicholas which puts them at odds straight away, definitely makes for entertaining reading. It has a slow burn feel to their developing relationship as Nicholas denies that he wants the other man but it's very hard to ignore the chemistry between them.
The mystery and plot regarding what is going on in Daydream has slowly been building across the series and things comes to a head here as Felix uncovers another aspect to what's going on. It's really interesting and has you thinking about the who, how and why.
I loved everything about the story and I really got into everything that is going on. I enjoyed getting interaction with characters that we've met in previous books and seeing Nicholas meet his match, Felix definitely knocking down his walls over time.
A great book and series to dive into for those that enjoy a good romance and paranormal characters with witches, ghosts, psychics and clairvoyants.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

The romance in here stands alone with no problem, but it's helpful to read previous books in the series not only because they're awesome, but also because they offer helpful context on the town of Daydream, many of the characters who inhabit it, and the larger plot arc that involves mysterious corruption (answers forthcoming in this installment, too!). I liked watching the resolution to said larger mystery, although the hints are such that readers will know what's going on and who's to blame, at least in broad strokes, long before the characters involved do, which is its own special kind of maddening. On the romance I was a bit less sold, mostly because Nick got on my nerves a bit-- I like the neat & organized one/ sparkly intuitive walking disaster pairing in theory, and I loved Felix to bits, but Nick was so uptight that he didn't really contribute much, emotionally, to the relationship Felix was working so hard to have, and watching him stubbornly refuse to admit his feelings, have fun in any way, or acknowledge the possibility of some kind of spontaneity, was somewhat draining. I did love seeing all the other characters though, and couldn't be more excited to see West and Emerson again in a future work.

Daydream Colorado is a fascinating place that I would love to live in. Felix is drawn there in his travels to help people and ghosts. Nicholas lives there and has a perfectly fine life until Felix shows up and upsets the proverbial apple cart. I have loved all of the books in this series but this one really touched me for some reason. The mystery of the “ghost” that Felix has been drawn to help is excellently woven through this story as clues come and go. It was lots of fun feeling as if I was going through this journey to the real truth with the characters. The main romance in this story is a definite opposites attract one and Nicholas and Felix reminded me of “The Odd Couple”. The more books I read about this town the more I enjoy reading them, as past and future couples show up as side characters. I particularly enjoy series where this happens because I find that this adds more depth to the portrayal of the town and series as a whole rather than just one romance. All that aside you could definitely read this story without having read the other books, but I would recommend that you read them first, both because they are great reads and because you will get more out of this book. Here’s hoping that A. M. Rose keeps Daydreaming for a long long time. Grin.

Daydream books are always a delight but this one left me even happier than usual. Lighter on romance, heavier on mystery, it finally brings a satisfying answer to the questions remaining from previous instalments. Even being able to guess the villain pretty early didn’t detract from the engaging ghost story, and the quaint charm of Daydream and its quirky residents was a lovely backdrop to grumpy and sunshine learning to navigate their differences.

Bonus points for little gems like Felix trying to explain his research board to Nick that made me laugh out loud. Not sure if I should feel extremely seen or ruthlessly called out but yes, some of us need lots of colorful threads of yarn to track our thought processes, some of those lead to nowhere but are still important, and the whole thing makes so much sense but only to us. Nick, you tried to understand, it’s the thought that counts.

As much as I loved the main couple though, nothing beats Malachi and Hawthorne in terms of perfectly fitting impossible pairings. It’s a sheer delight reading glimpses of them on their own, but that crazy family unit with Emmerson being doted upon by both of them is a stroke of genius. Apparently even perfection can be improved if you throw a disaster twink into the mix. Emmerson and his ‘child taking sides in the divorce’ vibes? Pure gold.

Can’t wait for the next story in this magical world.

ARC provided by the author, I have chosen to read and write an honest review.

Another wondrous adventure in the town of Daydream. I cannot get over this cute town and it’s residents; it’s quirky and vibrant. The descriptions of how magic is used in their everyday life are fantastical, hilarious, and refreshingly fun. And Felix - as the new guy in town - only adds to the excitement. He is cool and relaxed, and just a little bit chaotic. When his chaos meets the town’s rigid, by-the-rules librarian, sparks definitely fly. Agitation and clever barbs are shared before exploding into undeniable chemistry. Try as he might, Nick is definitely not immune to Felix’s charms...

There is a little bit of angst stemming from the uncertainty of whether they can have a future. But mostly, the tension in this book comes from the inexplicable and frightening events that are occurring in the town. The problem with the dying woods continues, and on top of this, Felix uncovers the mystery of a ghost no-one can remember. Said ghost - West - is utterly adorable! He’s shy and sweet and so enamoured with the brightly energetic witch, Emmerson. West stole my heart as soon as he was introduced and I ended up being just as invested in him as I was with Nick and Felix.

This series is one of my favourites, and I cannot wait for the next book!

Felix and Nicholas . . .

Felix was able to speak to ghosts. He also tries to help them if they need him and he is drawn to Daydream to find out what happened to one of them. Felix meets Daydream’s uptight librarian and enjoys the challenge of rattling Nicholas, but they need to find out what is going on in Daydream and why the woods are dying.

Nicholas has a unique gift where he can determine if someone is lying. So when he meets Felix who tells him about a ghost and his own abilities, Nicholas realizes what he is saying is the truth. He could be the answer to helping to unravel the strange things going on in Daydream. And while they are trying to solve these mysteries, they both are experiencing feelings that took them by surprise. Felix and Nick are perfect for each other, although very different in personalities. Felix is lively, spontaneous, and fun; Nick is more straight-laced, organized, and serious. (Just reading about the color-coded post-it notes and the bulletin board will plainly reveal a potential battleground for these two.) Will they give a relationship a chance? Will they be able to help the ghost and discover what else is plaguing Daydream? You will love these characters! They are amazing and fun, so don’t miss this one!

{I received an ARC copy promising to leave an honest review). I gave Whirlwind a 5* review because I really enjoyed this book. It is a low angst MM romance with a mystery to solve. While reading it on the first evening I received my copy, it became an "I'll just read one more chapter" read. Then it was just another chapter and another chapter. I finally had to force myself to stop reading as I needed to get some sleep! The verbal play between the MCs was fun to follow. If I had read this as a standalone I probably would have given it 4*. The authors did a commendable job giving information that appeared in the previous books without getting bogged down in the details. Having read the previous books (Daydream, Blindspot, Heartwood, and Mischief) I had a better understanding of the information presented in this book. If I hadn't read them I think I would have enjoyed it but felt I was missing some pieces to the puzzle. The authors include a link in the book for the book Daydream and there may be a way to search on that site for Mischief. The books Blindspot and Heartwood are available on mainstream retailers (I bought them on Amazon). In summary, this is a fun book!

Whirlwind is an excellent continuation of the Daydream, Colorado series. It was great seeing characters from previous books and meeting some new ones.
The mystery, which began in a previous book, is well done. It kept me on the edge of my seat as they tried to find the clues that would make sense of it all. This was both frustrating and scary.
The premise for this book (and the series) is well thought out and easy to get lost in. The overall idea of Daydream is compelling, and it seems like a beautiful place to live. The characters carry the storyline along, adding color and depth as they live their beautifully magical lives.
Felix is a great addition to Daydream. His fresh eyes see magic and the community in a new way, and it helps put it in perspective for me.
I love Nick's buttoned-up character. Watching him deal with Felix and his slap-dash ways is hilarious.
These two make a wonderful couple. Their romance is passionate, whimsical, humorous, and engaging. And their HEA is believable and satisfying.
Whirlwind gave me all the feels.
I look forward to more from these authors.

I want to move to Daydream, CO! I love this small magical town and all of its quirky inhabitants. Nick is the OCD librarian whom we have all come to love and Felix has just breezed into town following his gut to take him to his next ghost to help. These two couldn’t be more different, but sometimes fate has its own designs. Felix quickly realizes that magic is real and AMAZING and that West is no ordinary spirit. In trying to solve the mystery of his reluctant ghost, he gets drawn into the problem Nick and the others are trying to solve, namely the woods dying and people’s magic acting up in strange ways. These two things become connected the more our unlikely duo digs in the problem. This series is so much fun and I enjoy seeing all of our favorite characters again. I can’t help but wonder if Malachi is going to get a story before we are through. Anyway, I highly recommend you visit this quaint and quirky town, if you can get past the town borders that is!

This book starts with a quirky introduction to Felix who is instantly a likeable ball of nuttiness. Nicholas we’ve met in the previous books. He comes across as someone who needs order and finds peopling hard. Being the towns librarian was a draw for me as a book lover and a tea drinking Yorkshire lass. The introduction of a ghost starts the story’s journey entwining with the series arch. Felix is just the match for Nick. They make a hot couple with a fun dynamic that works as a partnership. It’s great to see the other characters back and learning more about their relationships and the hints for the next book’s couple. It would be good to see more of Malachi and Thorne together and find out exactly what Thorne is, and their relationship. But overall enjoyable read.

I really loved it!
Felix is a delight. Energetic, bold, adorable. And he is exactly what the collected Nick needs.
The moment in the bar? The way he just came up with a drink for Nick and called it "REASON NUMBER ONE"?! *FANGIRLING*
I love Felix and Nick and the mystery that is finally unfolding itself!
Parts 1 and 2 were hints but 3 is the main business and part 4 is about beautiful wrap around it all.
And the ending? OMG! ADORABLE - CUTE - CREATIVE!
Still sulking about not getting full story about Mal & Thorne T_T
There was also this moment with Mason... The moment when Nick playfully blocked Felix's lips with magic and he got so angry because it reminded him of Drew. It was sooo... vibrant.
I went to West and Emerson in a speed of lightening and... oh gosh...

Felix is a clairvoyant following his instincts to help solve issues for spirits who haven't crossed over yet

when he finds himself in an unusual town, he discovers magic- in practitioners in the town, and between some of the folks in town and himself

an unusual ghost tied to a single location, has Felix perplexed- especially since folks cannot remember him, and keep forgetting him

What forces are in play that make the woods so damaged? why can no one remember the missing farmer?

can the ocd and sexy librarian admit to himself and Felix that he has feelings for Felix? will he push him away?

intense paranormal action, adventure and drama

It’s after midnight and I just finished this story, and it was wonderful. To tell the truth this is the first book I’ve read by this author, but I have several others in my TBR list that have just moved up in priority. I was so caught up by Felix and Nicholas’ interactions and chemistry that the night quickly passed by. This book has magic, ghosts, and two men meant to be together. Despite the hesitation on Nicholas’ behalf the HEA is heartwarming and made me tear up it was so sweet. If you want a romantic story filled with danger and mystery, then read this story. You will not be disappointed and it will have you searching for Daydream, CO.

Felix is looking for the next ghost to help and enters Daydream, Colorado. Nick is the OCD librarian and the two are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Talk about the odd couple. These two start to work together on the mystery, adding more information and depth to the mystery. The storyline has great banter and situations with previous characters while the surprises and twists keep coming. Loved the developments and relationships among the characters as they learn more of what is happening around them. Very well written and I can not wait for the next book in the series.
