CAN DR HARRISON LANE UNCOVER THE TRUTH BEFORE ANOTHER STUDENT DIES?
It all started off as a bit of fun, but somehow it ended with one of them dead. When the student friends attempt to hide the truth, it unleashes a sinister succession of events. The ghost of their dead friend starts to walk the streets of Durham city, risking the exposure of their secret, and bringing fear and ultimately murder.
Will Dr Harrison Lane, Head of the Ritualistic Behavioural Crime unit, be able to uncover the truth as he also battles to find out what happened in his own past?
Dark Order is the third in the Dr Harrison Lane mysteries, fast-paced crime suspense novels full of murder and intrigue, with a little romance and humour included. Harrison travels all over the British Isles as he solves the crimes hiding behind folklore, superstition, religion, and ritual.

The third book in the series revolves around a secret society in Durham university and the deadly outcome of their rituals. As usual, Harrison uses his skills to help the police and bring justice. There is also the ongoing story of Harrison’s past and the quest for the truth about his childhood and his mother’s death of which we learn more but are left waiting for book four with baited breath.
This book sees Harrison at Durham investigating the murder of a privileged university student in unusual circumstances. In addition to the murder there are 100’s of sightings of a monk ghost. Harrison is called in to help unravel the mysterious happenings.
Harrison is a very likeable protagonist. He is very caring and compassionate. Although a bit of a loner he does work well with a team as he works with various police forces. He has a great relationship with Ryan who compliments his investigative work by being the IT specialist.
The book is a quick easy read, the pace is good and the plot has enough going on to hold my interest throughout. There wasn’t a dip in pace in the middle as a lot of books suffer from. Each book has its own storyline so can be read as a standalone although what we get through the series is an unveiling of Harrison’s back story and his relationship with his love interest. But what the hell this book is great, just jump in with this one 😊
In a thread running alongside the murder It delves deeper into Harrison’s past exploring the death of his mother and the life in the cult.
This without doubt is my favourite of the series. What drew me originally is Harrison’s unusual skill set. He is a profiler who specialises in ritualistic crime, and also has tracking skills taught to him by his Native American step father.
If you enjoy crime and like something a little different this series is one for you.
Having read the first two books in the series in record time, I wasn't disappointed with the third. With a mysterious murder and a strange faceless monk on the loose, Dr Lane is off on his next adventure. But all the while, his past is threatening to catch up with him, and the book ends on a cliffhanger. I'll be reading the fourth book as soon as it comes out and can recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a good thriller!
These books just keep getting more intriguing. Harrison is called to look into the case of murder and a ghostly monk. He also becomes a little bit nearer to finding out why his mum died and who killed her. I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens next. I couldn't put this book down. I'm hooked. 🙂
This third book has been another all nighter. Dr. Lane is a psychologist that specializes in all kinds of religions and weird practices. It’s different from most series. I was afraid I wouldn’t like it but it has become a must read series. I highly recommend this book!
Wow what an exciting story. Brought Durham & it’s university to life for me , Dr Harrison Lane a complex character but I find myself liking him more each book . Good plot well thought out . Ended on a cliffhanger for Harrison so I can’t wait to read the next book.
These books just keep getting better Harrison is such a cool person while on a mission although still trying to find answers for his past and into his Mothers death .
This is my third book that I have read by this Author. Another brilliantly written book which once I started reading I could not put down. I would definitely recommend to other avid readers like me.
I enjoyed this latest part of Harrison Lane's experiences with the UK police, helping to solve crimes with psychology and his tracking skills. The only things which spoiled it for me were, firstly, the ongoing backstory of how he got to where he finds himself now - his connections with a cult and the murderous leaders and how they're trying to suck him back into their clutches and do more of their bidding. This is a hugely irritating and - IMO - unnecessary distraction. I know it's there to draw the reader in and make them want to read on through the series, a marketing ploy. Secondly, so is the on-off-on-again relationship with the new woman in his life. Commitment phobe? You bet! And we're told that it's because of his upbringing and the death of his mother at the hands of the cult. This is also irritating to me. Not because I want things tied in neat little bows and resolved tidily. I know life is messy and people have problems accommodating emotions/feelings in their lives if it means they get distracted from what they deem to be their main life's work - in this case, helping to solve crimes linked with occult overtones - but it left me wanting to grab this man and shake the heck out of him. And now, as I know, there are three more books (at least) in the series. I won't be reading onward. The box set was a freebie; I'm not that interested in what comes next.
