A week ago, I was just Jesse Rafe, a music major and a major nerd. But then I discovered not only am I a werewolf, but I am an alpha. No, I’m The Alpha. The prophesied uniter of shifter-kind who can impregnate every species and put an end to a centuries’ long secret war. But to do that, I must continue to grow my pack and find omega mates. And the werecoyote pack in the next town over is my next target.
This is a fun book, but it's for grown ups, yet it is still great fantasy. It's very easy to read, and there was plenty to hold my interest. The action scenes are good, but it's full of sensation.
2.5 Stars Better than the first book, but that wasn't a high bar for me. Plot holes continue to abound, and the MC is still a clueless idiot who stumbles his way into success rather than it feeling like he earned anything. I really want to like this series, I guess I'll give it one more book to see if I should just give up or not. Kudos to whoever does the covers for this series, that's probably the only thing keeping me reading the series at this point. *Sigh*, I'm going to hate myself if the third one isn't better.
As stated in my review of part 1 of this series, Eric Vall's quality is all over the place. In this second book in this series I still liked the concept, writing was ok, but it started to become annoying how 'slice of life' everything was. Every word, gesture, action is described literally, without skipping over any of the boring bits. Ok, some of the boring bits are cute but by the fifth time Jessie is eating pancake breakfast with his pack I'm starting to wonder if this is on purpose because the author wants to spread his original ideas as thin as possible to produce more books from what's essentially a single story with multiple chapters?
Quickly becoming my favorite series of Eric Vall's coming just after his Duelist series.
Alpha concept is brilliant and Eric Vall has bought a new and awesome revival to the idea of Shifters that has me unable to put the book down once I start.
The characters are brilliant and well thought out and there are a few unique concepts that make things interesting.
As always, the author delivers a well written and edited story of the Alpha of Alphas. And I look forward to the next.
He continues to show his mastery of this genre. I'm looking forward to his deciding to take his writing to the next level in fantasy and scifi and compete with the existing strong authors in the field.
Becoming a werewolf is hard, but becoming The Alpha wolf is much harder. The only way yo grow is to kill other alphas and that their packs. Jesse's issue is that as a Werewolf of Legond he will mate and mix race pacts. Ware-lions, coyotes, wolves, birds,& more. Go Jesse, mate with more beautiful ware's and grow your own pack.
1Alpha to unite all the shifters, wolves, cats , coyotes, avians. There has been tension between the types of shifters and no unity. Jessie Rafe, a very talented music student, knew nothing of his heritage until the day he witnessed a crime and nearly field in a struggle with one of the criminals. In a rage he'd never known his life changed forever!
Again Eric brings the life of Jesse Rafe into focus. Mire intrigue more violence. More of the drama of college life. A new woman in The Alpha's life, this how you bring the clans together. Be prepared for mid terms ladies and gentlemen.
Jesse learns more about being an Alpha. Its great to see pack dynamics at work and the pack building become an integral part of the story. There is mid-terms to deal with, family to meet and threats as well as a new Omega to claim. All in all another great addition by Eric Vall. Bring on book 3
Truly enjoyed this second installment of The Alpha. Interesting, satisfying plot, great character development, and no magic users! Not that I dislike that element, but it’s refreshingly different that were folk aren’t enslaved and terrorized. Really looking forward to the next installment!
Book 2 was as enjoyable as the first book of this series! The read was fast, action and dialogue was sharp, and the storyline was logical and we'll thought out, I wanted to find out what was going to happen next...I enjoyed this, after so many books that are found lacking, this was a winner!
I like the way the main character is learning more and growing more into his role. I also like the way the girls are developing more personality and becoming stronger. I feel that there are more interesting things going on and therefore a more Fuller story for me. I enjoyed reading this second book and hope a third one comes soon. 😁
I really like the improvements on this one and how this plot went with the new pack. I do want more interaction with the pack it self like is he allowed to have fun with a beta? Can you take one of them as a woman too? I want to see more of the pack as well but i love it all so far and will start the next book right away!
This was pretty good hoping the next one pushs the story further with a bit more danger maybe so the mc needs to fully be who hes ment to be and stop worrying about other human things
I've read a few series of Eric's, and this one is quickly becoming a favorite. I've always liked books about shape-shifters and he is doing a great job building a modern world with them
The first book in this new series promised to be one of his best. Far exceeding my expectations this new series really grabs my interest and I don't think it's going to let it go. Cannot wait for the third installment!
This is another great concept from a great story teller. Hopefully this series goes for many books. I enjoy many of the authors series but really like the storyline of this one.
This is a truly incredible story, the world we are introduced to along side our protagonist is fascinating and without compare! Everything from the characters to the action is amazing! I cannot wait for the next one!
Vall tells an exciting story with interesting characters. Lots of action with an appropriate amount of sex that shows our MC bonding with his Omega is. Bring on #3!!!
Such an amazing read! Can't wait for the next one!
This is an amazing series and I am excited to see where it goes. The author really creates am amazing world with his writing and it makes you wish you were the main character! Can't wait for more!
The series is really starting to get rolling, I love that the Alpha is taking out the à-holes left and right. A bit slower than the previous book, but I'm enjoying the way the story is opening up.
Happy shifters, put down the jerks. As the world unfolds, will be interested in how Jesse handles other groups who don’t want to join, but don’t deserve to be put down hard.
Made it so it wasn't a straight confrontation, but showed the other Alpha as an egotistical asshole. So great story line so far. In the future they can't all be asses and may even join thinking best for the pack or one about to retire
This is your basic "your the one" story with a harem. It is what I expected coming into, but I look forward to seeing how the author will put their own spin on it. Please don't make me wait as long for part 3!
Entertaining story. I like how the pack dynamics work. Would have loved to see some coyote and road runner jokes made at the expense of Gray. All in all a fun book to read. Hoping for the next one to come out.
The Alpha book two. Is as impossible as it seems. Even better than book one. Which it's self was really fantastic. Jesse and pack. Now include werecoyotes. As well Jesse gains a second mate Arielle. I truly wish book three was out I can't wait to read it.
Jesse only recently realized that he was a werewolf. Not just that, but an Alpha of Legend. His newly formed mixed pack of lions and wolves still has challenges from a larger lion pride. Jesse plans to incorporate a coyote pack to increase his numbers and have a chance against the lion pride. I like the action, humor and lust/love. I look forward to the next book.
At the end of the first book I was a little put off by the MC’s abrupt change in attitude, but I ended this book feeling like the character buildup was improved. I’m glad I gave this series a second chance with book 2.
This is s new premise, maybe not for others but I love the idea of one Alpha bringing all the clans together. Fortunately, the next book is already out!
Jesse isn’t perfect, I liked that. He is frustratable, and rash. His interactions with the full fleshed out characters is enjoyable. The side characters appear to Juliet be waiting on Jesse to think for them, which was much more pronounced in this book.
