Kim Vermaak always had a pen in her hand. Whether doodling, crafting poems, or writing letters.
Born into an abusive family, Kim's first heroes were her adoptive parents. Through them, she learned the gift of new beginnings.
She also learned a love of reading and how she could be transported to a place where ordinary people could find the courage to rise above insurmountable odds. Through books, she found her courage.
But it was not until South Africa faced its first series of power cuts she found her talent for storytelling. In the dark, with a frightened daughter, she began to create heroes that could tap into their inner strength and win.
Through her love of reading, history and young people, Kim crafts stories that embrace the true purpose of storytelling. Stories are designed to impart wisdom.
But in today's fast-paced society, we often reduce stories to entertainment value. This leaves little room for us to grow and forces us to relive the painful lessons of the past. But this author's passion is to see communities create a legacy that will empower future generations.
The map at the beginning could use a more professional touch with better detail. The book cover is good but I would like a less dark color back ground. I received a free copy in exchange for a review.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. The saga of Nadine becoming the last Silver Wing Dragon Whisperer continues within these fast paced pages. Will she succeed in hatching the last Silver Wing dragon egg, and finding the others that have been hidden or will the Masked Man create enough diversions to spoil her quest, and let the evil king gain access to them to create dark war dragons. There is plenty of action, betrayals, dangerous rescues and emotional turmoils to keep you reading well into the night. I would have to say this is another must read. The story continues in book 4
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Oh soo good!!! You get some history and backstory to some of the characters. All while moving the story forward. So captivating and heart wrenching. I absolutely loved it. I cannot wait for the next book!! Highly recommend to dragon lovers!!
Love the way that Kim brings dragons to life - I've always had an affinity with the thought of them, and trust that the regression I did many years ago that showed me as a "keeper" is true. Nadine has grown into a strong warrior and her relationships with the characters that support her are enlightening and continue to inspire. My favourite characters are Nadine, Lady Christine and Elizabeth. Book 3 starts with Ciommed, an Emerald Forest Dragon birthing an egg and the story weaves the tale of how Nadine, through many trials, finds the dragon egg. King Radolf is ever vengeful and cruel and, if you read the prequel, A Mother's Warning, you would understand the extent of his nature and obsession, firstly with Christine and then with finding Nadine and the hatchlings. I really enjoyed these first 3 books and look forward to continuing the journey in the next saga
I was really excited to get back into this world with Nadine. I love these characters and the beautiful world Kim has built. The ending was a bit disappointing. Although not a true cliffhanger (by my own definition, that's only if the main quest or storyline is not completed), it definitely leaves you wanting more! I can't wait to see where this epic tale goes next.
Kim Vermaak takes on the challenge of re imagining a medieval period with intelligent dragons and magic. Her heroines are vivid and strong, this alone would make her work worth reading. That she does it within the framework of a deeply spiritual Christianity is quite remarkable. The language is clean, though there is no lack of vivid action. It can seem "preachy" to some readers who may not be grounded in the many biblical references. That said: in book two of this series she takes on the difficult task of portraying abortion with sensitivity and a fair balance of women's health and well-being. The medicine woman providing services has no happiness in performing her task, and yet knows that without her services these women would suffer more. Given the limited scope of a medieval platform, this is about as nuanced as can be expected. Modern medicine has made the decisions far more complicated.
As to the story, it is told well, edited professionally, and nicely published. The weakest aspect is dialogue. All characters sound alike. The language is a bit over sanitized (common folk should sound a bit more common than royalty. Not vulgar in the way of cursing but vulgar as in everyday. ) it is advanced writing to recognize speaking patterns and create differences between characters without resorting to accents. Few writers make that transition, these characters are a bit too homogenized even giving allowances. I would hope that the editor will make a better effort in the future to catch such minor flaws.
Worth reading, I am following the Author and making use of Kindle Unlimited books for free to get as much as I can from this talented writer.
The dragons almost extinct . They hide their eggs to protect them from the evil people. Nadine, being the only female dragon whisperer, is the only one who can hatch the eggs .But Nadine is not the only one trying to find the eggs . The king is after them too. Now Nadine must find eggs before the king or else death will claim her.
It's the third book in the Chronicles Of Nadine series. This book reveal some interesting past events .I loved reading the history between the masked man and the dragon whisperer. Some new characters emerged in this book .Most of the time, nothing turns as I expect . I liked Nadine more in the first book than in the third book. The scene where the eggs hatch was a bit weird for me to read to be honest. But the author did an amazing job in this book.Definitely going for the fourth book.
I will recommend it to fantasy genre fans . Dragon lovers are definitely going to love it .
I would love to give this more than 5 stars. This is just a great series. There are so many great characters & a dragon hatchling. This has so many twists and turns you won't be able to put it down. Secrets, betrayal and anger are a big part of this one. Nesta is an angry girl that really ticked me off because she was a bully. Then when the source of her problems was revealed, I felt bad for not liking her character. Nadine had some great hurdles to overcome. She is a very strong character with a huge task. Elizabeth was busy fixing all Myra's injuries and trying to find the dragon eggs. If you like epic fantasy with plenty of action, then this one is for you. I love this author and it has the perfect Narrator. A series that must be read. Can't wait for the next one.
The Call of the Ancients: An Epic Medieval Fantasy (The Chronicles of Nadine Book 3), is my fourth pulse-pounding read from author Kim Vermaak. A 380-page-turning read, the third book in The Chronicles of Nadine series. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." I look forward to reading more from this author! Next up is The Tears of the Crystal Heart: An Epic Medieval Fantasy (The Chronicles of Nadine Book 4). The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
The Call of the Ancients is an incredible book written by Kim Vermaak! This book drew me in from the very first page and I admit I had a very difficult time putting it down. The plot was very well developed and had a very nice twists hidden within that the author unraveled throughout the story. The pace of the book was just plain perfect. There was always something happeningThis fantasy she wrote is very well done and I really enjoyed this novel.
Events are moving along … will they find more of the hidden dragon eggs, and more importantly, keep them from the Masked Man? King Radolf steps up his game …. As does the Masked Man. Help comes from unexpected quarters … All I can say, is that as it ended, I was thinking, “Nooooo. Not yet!” I can’t wait to read book 4. The series is getting better and better. I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation
I started this series with this book on accident. I either got a copy that needs some serious editing or there are a lot of little errors that confused me i am going with the first premise. Based on that, this is a good book. I liked the mix of real world and fantasy. I hope to go back and read the rest of the series! This book is worth your time!
I really enjoyed the third book in this series! I feel like with each book there are so many new revelations and adventures. This truly has been an epic tale! I am excited to read the next book!
I appreciate that the minor storylines are continued throughout the series. That way, we can get to know the characters better as well as follow their growth.
