Cleo's got a secret heartbreak, one she flew across the world to forget. Now he's found her, and he's determined to claim her for his own...
Cleo Chapman serves as a dedicated slave at the pleasure of the Doms at New York’s exclusive Masters Club. But even moving a continent away from the Dom who so casually rejected her isn’t enough to mend her shattered heart.
Jack Hartford spent two years coming to grips with a tragedy that left him a young widower at loose ends. Finally ready to engage in life again, his memories of Cleo draw him back to her, only to find she’s gone. Yet, no matter how he tries, he can’t put the charming, sexy girl out of his mind.
When he tracks her down, Cleo’s cool reception cuts him to the quick. The submissive passion that once burned so brightly in her soul is now barely a flicker…at least for him. Challenged and intrigued, Master Jack refuses to let anything stand in his way. But can Cleo trust that he desires more than just her submission this time? Because she wants it all—heart, body and soul.
Claiming Cleo is the second book in the Masters Club Series. Though each novel can be read as a stand-alone, reading the series order will enhance your experience.

The only story i didn’t have in the Masters Club Boxset was Claiming Cleo, and Claire Thompson GAVE it to me when i asked if i could buy it from her! Just like that….and i’m so happy she did, because it’s such a wonderful story! It brings back together two heartbroken people that need eachother só badly,it hurts. It shows that taking risks sometimes dóes pay off. And second chances with a happy end dó exist.
Chloe fled London after her Master Jack’s wife Annette died, and built a new life for herself in New York. Being a sevice slave at the Masters Club there feels good and gives her purpose. Master Grayson and Mistress Dominique are good owners, and treat her with the care she needs. She’s made friends, and feels at home now that she’s moved on. Until the day Jack is there….at the Club, asking her to scene with him. Here on business,he decided to drop in at the Club to play a little…..with her broken heart! Since she can’t refuse as Club slave, she accepts, but there’s no way she’ll let this man break her again…no way! If only he left it at that one scene, which felt way too good… No,the blasted man keep coming back for more, and he even buys her for 5 whole days at the charity auction! But she’s got this, she’ll manage to keep him out, keep her distance whenever she can, until those 5 days are done. And then he can bugger off back to London, thank you very much!
When Jack finally emerged from the fog called grief after his beloved wife died,he wanted to reconnect with the only other woman that held his heart,Cleo. Only to find her missing…..why did she leave, and why did she go all the way to New York? Without so much as a word? What happened? That was something he needed to find out,and after writing her a letter, and getting no reply,he followed her to New York. Seeing her again was só good, and scening with her showed him they still had that spark, that connection. Until the scene was over, and she practically dismissed him… Obviously, there was something going on and when his good friend Master Hayden came up with the plan to buy her at auction,he grabbed it with both hands.
Finding out the how and why of Cleo’s actions made Jack see what an ass he’d been, and he set about making things right straight away. Because he found he was ready to move on from his loss, and he could admit to himself that he loved Cleo without feeling guilty. But how to show her he meant to stay, when she told him everyone always left? When she admitted to having feelings for the wrong man more than once, and being hurt too often?
Cleo was afraid to open up her heart, only to see it broken yet again. But everything Jack did thís time showed her he was the exception to past experiences. He explained his actions, listened to her,and acted as if she meant something to him. But he was only in New York for a short time….and what would happen when he went home? Her friend Jess was a good listener, and the advice she gave sounded good.
This was a beautiful story, and i loved every second of it! Even with their heartbreaking past, they still found a way to listen to eachother when it mattered. Talking,as always,is só important, and when they finally did,the beauty they found after that was more than worth the risk of opening up to eachother. The way forward may have had it’s potholes, but talking helped clear the air.
Losing a loved one is devastating ,and dealing with it is só hard. But with help from the people around you,the ones that care, you wíll find a way forward eventually. One day at a time, you slowly start to feel human again. And slowly, you start making plans again. Showing you, that yes, there is still a life to be led. And that’s what Jack and Cleo found….together.
This is the second in a series set in an exclusive BDSM club with branches in NYC & London. Because it begins in medias res, with characters whose backstories were more fully explained in the first book, I'm not sure this works as a standalone. I also want to advise potential readers troubled by OW/OM drama that the author writes herself into a corner when depicting the MMC's attitude towards his dead wife. On one hand, we can't see him totally forget her (or he'll look like a jerk); on the other, we need to see him totally invested in the MFC (or he'll look like, well, a jerk). Readers will have to decide how successfully they think she navigates this.
Here, we get club service submissive/slave Cleo, a young British woman who left her country and moved to NY to start over again after she realizes that Jack, mourning his dead wife, can't return her feelings for him. Unaware of this and wanting to explore a relationship now that his grief has waned, he visits her at the NY club. The rest of the book details their second-chance romance.
Short Version: I had very mixed feelings about this book and wished for the umpteenth time that GR allowed half stars. I do think that if you're looking for consensual, well-described BDSM scenes between two very likeable people you'll grow to care for, you'll probably enjoy this. The strength of this book is Jack and Cleo: despite carrying steamer-trunks' full of baggage, they were nevertheless kind, caring people who learn from their mistakes and grow. I also liked that Cleo, though a "slave," had her own goals and aspirations that she refused to give up for orgasms a guy. And I particularly appreciated that Jack wasn't the usual all-knowing, unfeeling dom: his vulnerability and concern for Cleo were welcome changes from the other doms who treat subs as little more than receptacles for their enjoyment (indeed, the club has an extremely off-putting vibe; it certainly isn't a place I'd want to visit). Because Jack is a vast improvement, this book was much warmer than the first and I was much more invested in the couple's HEA.
Long Version: I did, however, have three problems with the book; the last two seriously affected my enjoyment and meant that I couldn't rate it more highly than I do:
1) Problematic Set-Up: To help Jack explore a possible future with Cleo, the club arranges for him to "buy" the unwitting sub in an auction, thus giving him complete access to her for five days. I have no words for how wrong this was. Let me offer an analogy: Imagine that you have a friend so affected by unrequited feelings for someone that she leaves her country, moves across the ocean, and goes into therapy. Imagine that this friend is now forced -- with no warning or preparation -- to have contact with someone who had such a negative effect on her life. Imagine that they come to you for help, what would you say? Well, I can tell you what I wouldn't say, which is some version of "Suck it up, Buttercup: you're a club slave and have to do what they tell you; besides, wasn't the sex so hot?" Everyone's nonchalant attitude towards Cleo's fragile mental health was disturbing (really, her best friend and supposedly caring masters didn't even consider how exposure to a man she'd tried so hard to get over might affect her?). In addition, all these supposedly intelligent characters thought it was just fine to put the cart before the horse, BDSM before vanilla, kink before communication? What Jack and Cleo should have done was actually sit down and discuss their past before engaging in all the smexy times; instead, this isn't something they do until more than half way through the book. Thank god Jack finally realized how bad his friends' advice was and that he was going about winning Cleo all wrong.
2) Repetition: This author's writing style consists of presenting plot points three (3) times: once when we read about it; the second when the MFC recounts it to her friend; the third when the MMC tells it to his. Not sure why Ms. Thompson thinks this is necessary; I certainly don't. (On the plus side, the prose is error-free.)
3) Padded Narrative: This was my biggest problem with the book. The climax (plot, not sexual) actually occurs about 60% into the story; thus, the very long final 40% felt very anti-climatic. While it's true that there's another climax towards the end, that one felt completely artificial and unnecessary, and didn't carry the emotional weight of the first. While I understand and appreciate that the author wanted to show us the couple's burgeoning relationship, there are only so many times I can read about food or clothes or showers before I get bored. Indeed, if you stop reading at 60%, I assure you that you'll miss absolutely nothing.
3 1/2 stars. We are introduced to one character whose arc is left open here; I suspect she'll be the MFC in the next book. If so, this neophyte will be a nice change from veterans Cleo and Jess.
This second book has a different vibe! It feels more, I don't know ... personal? Heartfelt? Honest? I can't really put my finger on it but it feels like a soft sweater on a cool day. In spite of all the sizzling, inventive scenes Ms Thompson does so well, it's still just a couple days in a loving relationship!? Babbling along here, do you get my meaning? You will, believe me!
Cleo (h) is a submissive slave at the new york masters club, we met her previously in At His Mercy. she's still recovering from recent heartbreak; she was in love with a master (Jack, H) in london but he was married and then widowed - so he never had romantic intentions towards Cleo, despite him frequently performing scenes with her at the club. this book begins with Jack coming to new york so that he can reconnect with Cleo and see if she has any lingering feelings for him, now that he's had time to grieve his wife.
Despite Jack knowing full well what his intentions with Cleo are from page one, it takes HALF of the book for him and Cleo to finally talk to each other about what in the fuck they both want. he spends the bulk of this book being worried that he's misread her or misunderstood her feelings - but does he ASK her what she wants? nah, of course not. *side. eye. 😒*
similarly to At His Mercy, if these two would just talk to each other, the book would be about 100 pages shorter, not to mention a thousand times more enjoyable. it's so frustrating that the author went this route, particularly since Cleo and Jack are in a master/slave dynamic - healthy communication is the only thing stopping the entire ship from sinking. if they can't speak to each other... girl, i'm calling the cops.
The kink scenes are great! the non-communcation thing is doubly frustrating because i feel like there's so much missed potential. if Cleo and Jack could figure out their shit sooner, the time that they spend together (particularly when he "buys" her at the auction) wouldn't feel so draining? taxing? awful? if they'd spoken to each other from start and cleared the air, the kink scenes would be more entertaining, and their relationship could actually progress through the book as opposed to being stagnant for the majority of it.
aside from that major bug, i also didn't like the way Jack's wife's death was handled. i thought Cleo was really immature regarding the whole thing, and it seemed to me that she couldn't cope at all with Jack having residual love for his WIFE who DIED UNEXPECTEDLY. Jack had to constantly tell her he had moved on from his wife, but like... one year is not a long time to grieve at all?? bizarre choices, won't lie.
i wish that i wanted to read the third book, because it seems promising; like it might move away from this communication rut. but honestly, i'm so drained from reading these two books back to back 😩 i just don't think i can do it yet.

Ms. Thompson NEVER fails to bring her best & superior writing skills & 'Claiming Cleo' is no exception. Smooth, superb & deft writing perfectly coupled with a plot that intrigues & sizzles as well as characters the reader cares about & is interested in join to make this an unputdownable read. Absolutely wonderful!
'Claiming Cleo' is the second book in Claire Thompson's "Masters Club" series and it's one that was easy to relate to the heroine of the story. Bless her heart, Cleo was the third play partner with a married couple while in London and then caught herself having feelings for Jack. When Fate steps in and deals a devastating blow it truly shattered their happy triad. Cleo couldn't deal with the changes in Jack's personality after all that time so she put in a transfer from the London Club to the Masters Club in New York. But after years of trying to get him off her mind and out of her heart, Jack shows up in New York wanting to pick up where things left off. REALLY? This was a second chance with all the emotional feelings. sizzling chemistry, and a Dom who goes through growing pains. I'm anxious to read 'Freeing Rowan' next.
So I want to say I totally enjoyed both books. I downloaded the second book before I could leave a review on the first one so this is for both. I loved the characters and the emotions between the two main characters, and also liked the secondary characters as well. I really would have given a higher rating, but reading so many other books I had to base my rating on how these stood up to many of those. I recommend reading these for a short, quick and happy ending when that is what you are looking for and need at the time.
A lovely, hot story. It had its moments when I wanted to smack Jack up side the head. He was your typical oblivious male. But then, Cleo was your typical heartbroken female who also needed a smack up side the head. Finally, they talked to each other. Some very hot scenes getting there. I mean wow! *fanning self* That scene in the bathroom . . . Hmmm. Although mostly satisfactory, the end felt a bit abrupt to me. Now my question is, does Rowan get the next story? I am curious about her story.
Somewhat long and repetitive but a nice story arc and HEA. I didn’t like how often the author used “c*nt”. For some context I understand, especially the master slave dynamic of the story, but it was use like 95% of descriptions. She demonstrates a great vocabulary everywhere else but there. It might just be my personal preference not like the word except very rare instances, but it seems excessively used to me.
I have enjoyed this great continuing novel series. It gets better and better the further you get into the story. The characters are well devoloped and you want to see what will happen to them tomarrow. You can’t put the book down regardless what ever else is going on in the readers world! Terrific Book !
I mean her writing…I don’t know her personally. This story, like her others, does not disappoint. I like her characters and care about what happens to them. She gently lets you know how it will end rather than summing up in one paragraph like far too many writers in this genre. Keep on keepin’ on, Claire.
I don't know who actually writes the book blurbs but this one is spot on describing this BDSM romance. It's pretty romantic the way Jack comes to New York with the express purpose of finding Cleo and convincing her to give them a chance. Cleo is really sweet and Jack is a decent guy and I liked them a lot. I like the author's writing and am looking forward to reading Freeing Rowan.
Cleo leaves London after a broken heart from love she never should have had. Jack comes to NYC to claim Cleo after recovering from his grief. Together they find their way to a relationship. There is a good mix of story and BDSM in this story. This is the second book in the series but is a standalone and has a HEA.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that this book was about Chloe and Master Jack. Can you love and receive love twice? This story is about finding each other again. A must read.
I have always enjoyed Ms. Thompson's books and Jack and Cleo's story is no exception. Ms. Thompson combines great characters, enjoyable story lines, and wonderfully handled kink it engaging stories.
I loved reading about Cleo and Jack. I enjoyed reading about their history and how they came to be where they are at the present time. The relationship between these two was HAWT! While Cleo was the perfect slave, Jack was definitely the right Master for her.
Cleo had been in love with Jack for a couple of years, but when his wife suddenly dies in a car crash, Jack closes himself off and ignores Cleo. Heart broken Cleo moves to New York. Jack is now aware of his second chance love with Cleo and won't give up on her.
This was a delightful love story against a BDSM Master/slave theme. Hardcore TPE isn’t really my cup of tea but this story had the perfect amount. I will definitely read the next book in this series.
This is the second book in the Master Club Series. "At His Mercy” is the first. I did not read the first book yet, but I will. I normally like to read the books in a series in order, but I received a free copy of “Chasing Cleo” for my honest review.
* How did the book make you feel?: I liked this book. I felt connected to the characters and I was able to get lost in the book. The kink scenes were hot and steamy, just how I like them. Particularly the restaurant scene. Although some of the things that happen is not my kink, it didn’t take away from the scenes themselves.
I felt this story was a whole story, it didn’t feel rushed or incomplete. Yes, the characters had a history, and this book didn’t go much into it, but it didn’t take anything away from what I was reading. I know you meet Cleo in the first book so you may get insight of her past there, but you didn’t need it for this one.
There are parts that I didn’t like but it wasn’t from the writing, I got frustrated with the characters. It seemed that Cleo kept forgetting that Jack lost his wife not long ago and did the things he did because of his loss. I would get mad at Cleo and want to scream at her, ‘DON’T TAKE THINGS SO PERSONAL! REMEMBER WHAT HE WENT THROUGH WHEN YOU LAST SAW HIM!’.
* How do you feel about how the story was told?: The story would jump back and forth between the perspective of Cleo and Jack. I like when authors do this because I can get connected to the main characters more deeply. The author can tell exactly what the character is feeling rather than finding out third person. It made me feel a part of the story rather than an outsider.
* What did you think about the main characters?: I liked the characters because I felt connected to them. I really like Jack and felt the heartache he had from losing his wife. Cleo bugged me that she couldn’t cut Jack a little slack for the way he treated her shortly after his wife’s death.
* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: As always the BDSM scenes stand out for me. This is why I read this book. “Claiming Cleo” did not disappoint in this respect.
* What did you think about the ending?: The author tied all of the loose ends very nicely. Although I would like to know how they are in the future, I don’t feel like it was a cliff hanger.
* What is your impression of the author?: I’m really liking this author. The details in the story were spot on. There wasn’t any fluff that made it distracting and want me to skip paragraphs. The last book I read from this author had too much detail, so I was glad that it wasn’t becoming a trend in her books.
I saw these questions on another reviewers post and thought I'd use them. Serial Romance Librarian
Having met Cleo in At His Mercy I was very much looking forward to reading her story and I wasn't left disappointed. Claiming Cleo can very much be read standalone, though I do recommend book #1 in the series too! Whilst this features a Master/slave type relationship it didn't feature the level of TPE I've witnessed in some M/s stories. Cleo retained a level of autonomy and independence and we were repeatedly reminded of how she also held the power to stop everything should she need or want to.
The main theme of this second chance story was communication and Ms Thompson demonstrated good character growth in this respect for BOTH parties involved. Whilst there were no huge surprises or twists I felt the story didn't need them, as the focus remained purely on this couple learning to trust and commit, and for Cleo to truly let go and submit.
The backstory of each main character gave credence to their actions and the journey they took during the story felt very believable. We are treated to some incredibly hot BDSM scenes, some of the sex scenes in the second half were more vanilla but this only strengthened the story for me, since you could see a life time relationship developing. We didn't just get told this couple had a deep connection and great chemistry, we were shown it again and again in a very believable way. A particular strength, more noticeable in that second half, was how this explored the mindset and trust of an M/s relationship.
In short this is another well written, well thought through story of romance within a kink relationship.
I absolutely loved this book! This is the second book in the new series by Claire Thompson and it is a must read book! Cleo (who has deep feelings for Jack) was in a BDSM relationship with Jack and his wife in London. An accident leaves Jack a widower and he while he is grieving, Cleo feels a relationship is out of the question and she moves to New York - without telling him. After Jack climbs out of his grief, he heads to New York to see if they can actually build not only a BDSM relationship, but possibly more.
Cleo has worked hard to "get over" Jack, but when he shows up at the Masters Club in New York, she discovers she really isn't "over" him. Jack realizes he's going to have to work to get Cleo to see that they could have something and he starts with the D/s connection. He has to be sneaky though by buying her at an auction at the Club - she will be his and only his for five days - and he hopes that is enough time to get her to see that he has deeper feelings and he hopes that she does too. During the five days new things come to light...and Cleo blurts out why she left London, leaving Jack with hope that what he believes could happen, is actually going to happen!
I enjoyed this book tremendously! In fact, in my humble opinion, book 2 was even better than the first book, and the first book was awesome! The author does a fantastic job of allowing the reader to see all of the emotions from both Jack and Cleo and the ins and outs of their D/s relationship, as well as their budding love relationship.
The ending was fantastic and I am looking forward to reading more books in this series! If you haven't read the first book yet, you should! You are going to love it! Claire Thompson knows how to hook her readers!
Cleo Chapman is a trained service slave at the Masters Club. She left England for the U.S. to escape a Dom who broke her heart. She's happy serving the club and it's two masters while doing the books, keeping things organized and helping fellow subs.
Master Jack Hartford lost his submissive wife due to a drunk driver. He's grieving process led him to hurt the one other woman in his life that mattered to him. The problem is he didn't realize how much she meant to him until after she'd gone.
Jack flies to New York to see if he can salvage his relationship with Cleo and possibly win her back. Second chances are notoriously bumpy and Cleo's past relationships make it even more difficult trusting again. These two clearly belong together, but old hurts and the last remnants of grief still must be dealt with before they find their happily ever after.
Thompson gives us another intimate love story steeped in a Master/slave dynamic making for an engaging, steamy, BDSM second chance romance.
A short time ago, Master Jack, his wife Annette, and Cleo spent time together in the London’s Master Club as a threesome. When Annette died, Jack needed time to recover. While doing so, Cleo felt yearning and a deep sense of rejection based on his responses. Slowly, with some therapy, she was able to move to the Masters Club in New York and become a happy, caring and compliant slave girl.
Meanwhile, Jack has slowly recovered from the loss of his spouse and realized how very much he misses and craves Cleo. When they scene together, he can feel her intense attraction, but it disappears quickly afterward. Something must be done, or all will be lost. Jack and his fellow Masters figure out a plan to urge Cleo into a five day slave session with Jack. Will she agree to participate? Will Jack be able to dominate her appropriately? Will she be able to overcome her barriers to submit fully? Will her true sensuality shine through? Will Cleo be able to accept Jack’s subtle, erotic control as well as his pain and restraint? Will her comfort zone be reached and perhaps even expanded? Darn!!! This book is excellent!
Another wonderful story by Claire Thompson in her Masters Club Series. Like the first story in the series, “At His Mercy,” it is set within an exclusive BDSM club, the Masters Club. Cleo is a sub at the New York club, having left London and the London club because of an unrequited affection for Jack, with whom she had scened with in London. Jack was widowed and decides he wants to establish a relationship with Cleo, so he comes to New York and meets with her at the club. Most of the story is taken up with the development of a new relationship between the two of them; one filled with various BDSM activities which both participate in with great enthusiasm, and with a lot of sensual loving between the two of them. Some of the characters from the first story make their appearance in this one, but this story stands completely on its own and can be enjoyed without having read the other story. Both Cleo and Jack are likable, intelligent, and react in a believable way to the problems that they face in trying to build a relationship together. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Claiming Cleo Claire Thompson has done it again by intricately weaving a BDSM love story. As crazy as those two words together sound this story will grab at your heartstrings. I actually cried real tears and laughed so hard it brought tears to my eyes.
Cleo ran to the New York Masters Club with another broken heart. She no longer trusts her choice of men.
Master Jack has been mourning the tragic death of his wife. He now feels ready to move on. He, his wife, and Cleo used to scene together at the London Masters Club. He left London for a short vacation to visit the New York Masters Club. Master Jack needs to see if there is still a connection between himself and Cleo.
There are many twists and turns in the road for these two. I loved every minute of this book. When I came to the last page I couldn't believe it was the end. I even silently yelled No. Definitely left me wanting more, but had a fulfilled ending. Can't wait for book 3. Bravo Claire Thompson!
