Born Bad meets Ash Park in an electrifying and darkly hilarious crime thriller that will keep you glued to the pages.
A brilliant psychopath with a singular goal. A detective desperate to do the right thing—for once. What happens when their worlds collide?
Poppy Pratt has spent years running from what she is. Pretending that her father wasn’t a prolific serial killer. Pretending that she doesn’t crave the stickiness of blood beneath her fingernails.
Pretending to be normal.
Now she’s finally free—if you don’t count the cheating husband she’s currently saddled with and the baby in her guts. It’s not so simple to murder your husband when you know you’ll be the prime suspect, but her new city boasts the highest rate of serial killers in the country. In a place like Ash Park, it should be easy to stay out of the spotlight.
But when a friend is found dead, Poppy finds herself thrust onto the radar of the local police force. One detective in particular appears to have it out for her.
Detective Petrosky has lost colleagues before, and he won’t allow this homicide to go by unresolved—he can’t afford to. Unlike Poppy, Petrosky doesn’t have the benefit of psychopathic numbness; he feels the guilt like a weight around his neck. If he screws up here, that weight might drag him down for good.
A killer with no remorse. A detective with too much. Who will come out on top?
Unputdownable. Unpredictable. A roller coaster of grit and emotion that cements O’Flynn’s place as one of the most talented thriller authors in recent history. If you liked Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects, Chelsea Cain’s Heartsick, or Dexter, you’ll love Born Bad.
With books deemed “visceral, haunting, and fully immersive” (New York Times bestseller, Andra Watkins), Meghan O’Flynn has made her mark on the thriller genre. Meghan is a clinical therapist who draws her character inspiration from her knowledge of the human psyche. She is the bestselling author of gritty crime novels and serial killer thrillers, all of which take readers on the dark, gripping, and unputdownable journey for which Meghan is notorious. Perfect for fans of Dexter, Chelsea Cain, and Gillian Flynn. Learn more at https://meghanoflynn.com!
Poppy's story continues with her husband Josh, and her pregnancy. But things aren't sunshine and roses in this union. Josh is still planting his 'seed' as much as he can. Then Josh's father is found dead. Detective Petrosky is questionable in his work skills and being a human being. This is giving Poppy cause for alarm. When Josh finally gets 'what he deserves' things are really starting to pile up on Poppy and not in a good way. Will she be able to overcome all this? I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
A psychopath crosses paths with a detective, which doesn't bode well. But when it is Poppy who meets Petroski, two iconic characters from two series by author Meghan O'Flynn, it's a match made in heaven...or should I say in Hell. Already in their respective universes, there is no lack of action. Once you get them together, you better buckle up because you can expect a wild ride. I loved this dynamic and the perception that the two protagonists have of each other. Both Poppy and Petroski are broken souls but I love them! Fast-paced and complex, like the main characters, this story will give you a rush of adrenaline.
This was basically a crossover between two of my favorite ever characters. Petroskey and Poppy- they're both unpredictable. And for them to meet up in a story, there's so many ways it could have gone! It's interesting to see the detective from her perspective. And there was a line or two of his that cracked me right up.
Okay so the story was good, and the author excels at having at least one moment in a book that will shock or gross you out. But of course the end- that ending was just perfect. In so many ways.
Petrosky -Friend or Foe? Worlds collide and Poppy ends up living in Ash Park. When she meets Petrosky she isn't sure if she likes him or not. Is he on her side or out to get her? And when people close to her keep popping up dead she's not sure who she can trust. Petrosky wants the truth as much as her but can they trust each other and work together? A lot of what happened in the past comes to light and a lot is explained as far as why Poppy is the way she is. Being back in Ash Park is like going home. Must read!
What a nightmare for Poppy. It was nice to see Petrosky again! I enjoy when characters from other series pop into a book. Poppy didn’t have to do anything in this one, she just had to let things unfold. It was probably difficult for her. I wouldn’t blame her if she had, though. Josh was a disgusting piece of work. He would have deserved it if she had removed him. I enjoyed reading this immensely. I actually really like Poppy, broken as she is.
Another brilliant instalment in the Born Bad series. Poppy has finally met her match in the one and only Detective Petrosky—or has she? The mental chess game that results from these two memorable characters colliding is well worth the read. Seriously, just grab a snack and a drink and sit down with this book for a wild reading experience. Wherever Meghan O’Flynn decides to take you, that’s where you need to be.
This was my favorite of this series so far! Integrating Ash Park into the Born Bad universe and getting to see Petrosky through a fresh lens. Fast paced, twisted and complex, it keeps tricking you, making you think you have it figured out, but no...
This is a fabulous addition to the Ash Park/Born Bad series. The storyline is thoroughly enjoyable, riveting, and unpredictable. The main characters are well-developed and at odds with each other. I loved this well-written book. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
