All the Pierce sisters want is a secure home with their father. Will their diabolical stepmother’s return destroy their place in his life?November 1864, KansasWhen their mother died nine years ago, the Pierce sisters, Jennie and Ella, went to live with aunts. They became homeless when Jennie’s forebodings brought down her preacher uncle’s wrath. Claiming Jennie, now 12, is demon-possessed, he tosses the girls out. At Jennie’s insistence, all five Pierce siblings join her in a search for their father, Hiram Pierce, who was taken prisoner of war by Confederate General Price during the Battle of Westport. They find him near death, and after they save his life, he promises his daughters a home even though he knows his current wife, Ava, will object. However, while Hiram was off fighting against Price and his men, Ava ran off with a man from her past, deserting the couple’s three daughters, ages three months to two-and-a-half years. Now, Ella, 14, has what she wants a home where she is in charge and not the servant of others. Jennie is respected, not punished, for her ability to foretell future events, and she is thrilled to be a big sister and enthusiastically takes on the care of the little ones. All is well until their father’s wife returns. Ava manages to worm her way back into the home with a bizarre story of being kidnapped.Jennie and Ella know Ava is lying. They have spoken to a detective who is investigating their stepmother for theft and attempted murder, but without proof of her deeds, they don’t dare tell their father for fear he will disown them just as he previously did their brother when Ava made false claims against him. Is there any way to prove to their father his wife is lying, or must Ella resort to an early marriage to escape the demands of a ruthless stepmother?
I had a hard time putting this collection of book down. I would get so involved that I would be late in getting the meals on the table. I enjoyed the time period it took place in and had to admire the children and how they met the challenges they had to face with a father that seen only his side of any situation. I look forward to read more of Hazel Hart's books she can keep you intrigued by the was she tells a story.
Great! I loved the way the author pulled me onto the story. It takes a great author to keep me interested . Mrs. Ava was unbelievably mean and vindictive. I say unbelievable but I could believe it because I’ve known a person like her. I read all 5 books on this series and enjoyed each one. This book deserves 5 stars for sure !
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. It takes us from the early years of Delia's life to the young adult years of her and her four siblings. The characters are well developed and very different one from the other. The stories are believable with just enough excitement to keep you interested in what will happen next.
It took a very long time for Hiram to realize the years wasted on wanting another son so badly he almost destroyed the family he already had. He came to see how much his daughters loved him and how much they cared, even when he treated them so badly. I wish he could have made amends with Cordelia.
Loved this book as much as the rest of the series.
I will recommend this family series to anyone that likes a good clean reading. Hazel's books are always so well researched. Her characters find a way into your heart! Can't hardly wait until November!!
can not stop reading until every title in the series is finished!
Every book in the series is written soo well. I can not put them down and have read 5 books within 3 days. I recommend for anyone wanting a good book .
I found this series so enjoyable, I finished all 5 books in less than a month. I was spellbound until the end . I would recommend this with a rating of pg13, with minimal violence and vice. I will be reading more Hazel Hart!
I love this series, I enjoyed all of the characters and their stories. Strong female role models. So happy that they became a family in the end. Would like to know how things turned out for Cordelia. So glad Hiram came to be a good father.
A great book series during a special time period during the civil war.
I like the interaction of the family members and how thoughtful they are and how they try to help each other with where to live and a father helps his girls find a husband.
All five books were amazing! I couldn't put them down. My only disappointment is that I've finished them all. The characters and story lines were great.
