Prescription for Mystery is the 2nd book in the Miracles & Mysteries of Mercy Hospital fiction series.

While digging through dusty hospital archives, Anne Mabry discovers a box tucked away in the darkest recesses of the windowless room. The contents of the box compel Anne, Shirley, Evelyn, and Joy to join forces and find out whatever happened to the promising young ER doctor who went missing thirty years before—a young doctor whose family had long roots in Charleston society, roots that pre-dated the Civil War.

When Dr. Byron Wellington disappeared without a trace, no one knew what to think. Was he forced to leave without saying goodbye? Or was it something worse? Something even more sinister? As the ladies search out tidbits of information, they discover much more than they were looking for.
In this lingering mystery of the past, the women realize that all is not what it seems on the surface and that, in the end, the truth does indeed set you free.

The ladies are at it again. This time they find the will of Richard Byron Wellington and his bequests will expire in 30 days and everything goes to the Greater Charleston Preservation Society. The majority of his estate is bequeathed to his oldest grandson, Dr. Byron Wellington, who has disappeared. Why is a metal box with a will, pictures and papers in a file drawer in the hospital records room? Where is Dr. Wellington? Has he been killed? I especially liked the name of the place for unwed pregnant woman-Shifting Winds Home for Erring Women. The women find out that the Wellington Mansion is being kept up-but by who? I had to laugh at the part where Shirley and Anne are going thru the vines and Anne jumps when Shirley speaks in a normal voice. I've had that happened to me before. A couple of mysteries to solve. I don't know if I missed something, but at the end Dr. Wellington shows up. Abe Jackson, his cousin supposedly hired top notch investigators to find him, and they couldn't. Tula knew where he was and contacted him when Frank Connors, one of the relatives, started making threats. So how come the "top notch investigators" couldn't find him? All in all another enjoyable read.

I read about this series in an old Guideposts magazines. Somehow I ended up with book 2 instead of book 1. Sadly, I don't feel inspired to request or find book 1 or later books in the series.

It's a gentle cozy mystery with 4 friends, all of whom work at Mercy Hospital. You can read book 2 as a stand alone but I have a feeling you'd understand the characters more if you started with book 1.

An accusation of bad care in the hospital's past sends one of the administrators into a tizzy about finding proof to refute it--which leads to cleaning out an old records room and the discovery of a hidden box. This leads the 4 friends into investigating what happened to Dr. Byron Wellington, who disappeared years prior.

There are several authors who write books for this series. I'm not sure if it's just this particular author or if it's the whole series idea--but it just didn't gel with me. I do appreciate that the ladies have faith and that the historical characters in this one have faith also.

Wow, what a great mystery surrounding happenings at Mercy Hospital.

This was an enthralling story with Anne discovering a box while cleaning in the old records room of Mercy Hospital. Summoning her three friends, Shirley, Evelyn and Joy, she knew they had to unravel the mystery surrounding the box and contents plus the disappearance of Dr. Wellington. Each character had unique traits that made them compassionate, loyal and respectful of history in Charleston, SC and the hospital. This action filled, descriptive and true to life events made this a worthwhile read.

Ruth Logan Herne never disappoint me with her stories no matter the genre. She tackles issues that are prevalent in our world today that can be changed with faith, love, hope and God.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author without any obligation to write a review. I have expressed my own thoughts.

I'm not one to usually like Guidepost Christian books but I bought #1 and #2 of this series because it's a mystery series about a hospital. I'm pleasantly surprised with this series! I read and reviewed book #1 last week. I liked book #2 even more! It involves a 30 year-old mystery involving a Dr and an inheritance and 4 older ladies, who work in various departments of the hospital, who put their heads together to solve as mystery. Some elements reminded me of my favorite juvenile mystery series, like Nancy Drew, when two of the women crawl through the window of a deserted mansion to sleuth.

Prescription for Mystery by Ruth Logan Herne mingles the past and family history with a present-day mystery.

Ann Mabry is the protagonist in this story. She discovers a mysterious box shoved under a Mercy Hospital archive shelf when searching for other records. The documents inside the box bring back to memory a promising young ER doctor who disappeared amid a looming malpractice lawsuit about 30 years ago.

What I love about these Miracles & Mysteries cozies is that these middle-aged main characters, Ann, Joy, Shirley, and Evelyn, are not afraid to act and investigate scary places. Not afraid to place themselves in danger to do what’s right in the eyes of God and justice.

This is a story about helping others with your gifts. Your talents. And placing others’ needs in front of yours. And of course, knowing when it’s time to set things straight. I love that cozies tie up the loose ends. Life isn’t always like that.

If you’re looking for an historical-type mystery, then you’ll enjoy Prescription for Mystery by Ruth Logan Herne. Have a beautiful weekend!

I enjoy reading Christian novels, but mysteries are my favorite. This is the second book in the Mercy Hospital. The four main characters are Shirley, Anne, Evelyn, and Joy. Together, they solve the mystery.

100% bought this for the title. Physically could not make it past page 30 or else I risked my face being permanently stuck cringing.

I'll state upfront that I read only this ONE of the series, as someone had shoved almost all of the immaculate "mystery" novels into one of our local little libraries, and the very fact of them being pristine and seemingly unread tells me either their former owner was as anal with book care as I am, or they were bought with the specific goal of filling up a little library with thinly veiled propaganda (I assure you I would be just as offended by any other group claiming so much real estate for the exact same book).

Ok, I guess since they're all different titles, it could also be someone was gifted them and they said "nuh-uh" and dumped them all there, but the point is they're so SAMEY and no one was taking them, but heck if I'm reading more than one.

...to be fair, this one wasn't BAD, but neither did they actually solve the thing so much as put pressure on the person who was in contact with the main POI. Like if Nancy Drew were a group of old ladies who'd watched Murder, She Wrote and thought they could do the same. It just felt a bit... I don't know... "They meant well."
