Physical growth is automatic; spiritual growth isn’t.
Since you’ve become a follower of Jesus, what are you doing to grow in your faith? Would you say you’re closer to Jesus today than you were a year ago? Some people focus on the event of becoming a Christian and forget the process of following Jesus.
Following Jesus: A 21-Day Journey is a guide to help you experience Jesus and grow in your faith. Some say it takes twenty-one days to make a habit. This book will help you develop the habit of a daily quiet time and deepen your prayer life.
Not only will you experience twenty-one days of Bible study on various topics leading to spiritual growth, but you’ll also enjoy an allegory that introduces each section. This story will lead you to think of important principles for your own spiritual journey.

Dr. Tim Riordan is a pastor, a Bible teacher, and a student of scripture. He has spent most of his adult life in Georgia, though he has served churches in Texas and Alabama as well. He currently serves as the senior pastor of SonRise Baptist Church in Newnan, Georgia. After receiving a degree in music from the University of Georgia, he graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas and a Doctorate of Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tim enjoys backpacking and scuba diving and some of his favorite past times include camping with his family. He and his wife, Sandra, have six children and make their home in Newnan, Georgia.
Tim’s book provides a wealth of information for new believers in order to grow in their faith and establish a solid quiet time routine. I highly recommend it as a discipleship text for new Christians. The review of basic faith foundations is extremely helpful for seasoned Christians as well.
I’m a lifelong Christian and also a Christian author. I was drawn to this book because it’s pretty short and there’s no topic more important than becoming a better disciple—something I’m pondering all the time lately.
The strengths of this book include the organization/flow of topics and the author’s ability to clearly communicate the meanings of scripture, with plain-English explanations of original languages. No academic, lofty tone. Totally digestible and natural. I’ve honestly never understood the Lord’s Prayer like I do now. And it’s a treasure of significance! I will reread a number of these chapters.
I loved the rich, wise insights into what it means to seek and submit to the will of God. Again, the explanation of scriptural root words is so enlightening and the author slides it in without intimidating readers who don’t like that stuff.
Anything that deeply impacts me and brings lasting value deserves 5 stars. Bless you, Pastor Tim.
Final thoughts: The fictional tale brings context to the journey. I’m generally not a fan of fiction but I get the author’s intent. The symbolism was helpful.
The end of the book is full of recommended scriptures to memorize. Love that. Also other books and resources.
A terrific resource for new/tentative Christians! No need to hesitate. It’s gentle, respectful, encouraging and highly effective. Enjoy the journey!
Dr. Tim Riordan, author of several books, including “Immovable: Standing Firm in the Last Days,” “Songs From the Heart: Meeting With God in the Psalms,” and others, has written his latest book “Following Jesus: A 21 Day Journey.”
In this book, Dr. Riordan reminds us that everything we do should come from our love relationship with Jesus, and for those who don’t know Him as their personal Savior, he includes a chapter at the end of the book, on how to accept Jesus.
Dr. Riordan writes an allegorical type story in the book based on a young woman named Journey. We follow her story throughout the book, as she walks through her life, finding Jesus and meeting other Christians who help her on her journey.
Four disciplines are discussed in the book: Prayer, Bible reading, Worship, and Service. Scriptures are used throughout the book to further emphasize the importance of the discipline.
This book will be tremendously helpful in establishing a daily routine of these four disciplines, and if you already have an established routine, this book will give you fresh and new ideas to enhance your devotional time.
Readers will find this book to be inspiring and helpful.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. The opinions expressed here are mine alone.
I read Following Jesus: A 21-Day Journey by Dr. Tim Riordan just after it became a 2022 Selah Award Finalist for Bible Studies. Dr. Riordan’s engaging, clear writing enhances his teachings of how to be a Christian and grow in one’s faith. In his easy-to-read style, he hits all the important Biblical “cylinders” to have a closer daily walk with Jesus. Dr. Riordan begins each chapter with personal experiences that helped me tune in to each chapter’s topic. Because he is a family man and loves outdoor adventures, I found these anecdotal intros interesting. As an experienced pastor, Dr. Riordan provides enriching teaching and important Bible verses, that kept my head nodding, yes, yes, yes, as I read. I also really enjoyed the Pilgrim’s Progress-style allegory woven through the book. I believe the final section, “How to Become a Christian,” is a perfect summary for anyone seeking a Christian faith. I highly recommend this book for those new to Christianity, and those wanting to grow in their faith and focus on their heart relationship with Jesus, as well as those seeking a reminder of the groundings of our faith.
A "How To" Resource for Establishing a Daily Walk with the Lord
One of the most crucial aspects of a healthy Christian walk is spending time with God in prayer and in reading the Bible. It is a crucial step in becoming a true disciple of Christ instead of being a mere convert. However, this is a discipline that is sorely lacking for many believers. Some don't know where to begin. In "Following Jesus: A 21 Day Journey," Dr. Tim Riordan presents a clear "start up" plan for anyone who wants to get in the habit of having daily fellowship with the Lord. He breaks it down in a way that is clear and accessible for even the newest of believers. He also makes good use of a narrative throughout, a "Pilgrim's Progress" type parable illustrating the importance of walking closely with the Lord. If you need help in establishing a daily devotional time, this book is an excellent "how to." It also includes memory verses and a breakdown of how one can put their trust in Christ as Lord and Savior. Highly recommended.
This is an absolute treasure to read. It reminds us that the journey is not over once we accept Jesus into our lives, it is only beginning. I would recommend this book to a wide audience interested in seeing their walk with Christ as the focus of their life, not just one aspect of our busy schedule. Very inspirational.
