Magic and mystery are only part of the Southern Charms of Honeysuckle Hollow…
After everyone returns from Charleston, Honeysuckle Hollow has been growing by leaps and bounds with new residents seeking magical sanctuary. All the residents of the Southern supernatural small town try their best to be welcoming. But when Charli Goodwin notices that small changes in everyone’s normal lives are adding up to bigger problems, she has to hurry to find out who’s behind the chaos before the body count increases and it’s too late.
With Honeysuckle Hollow and everyone she loves at risk, will Charli be able to save the town from this new threat?
I love this series. It was one of my first introductions to the Cozy Mystery genre. Charli is currently with the man I was shipping her with, though the other isn't completely out of the picture, and I won't lie, I'm a bit worried.
Another great story - but that ENDING!!! I swear if I waited all this time for the relationship I wanted Charli to have and it ends, well I will be DEVASTATED lol Onto the next!!
I love the other this series is moving down. Seeing true character development based on the actions of the characters and others in each book is so nice and not something I see in every cozy mystery.
I wish that communities like the one in this book were more common. It would be nice to have so many people willing to look out for each other despite differences of opinion.
Cons:
I don’t love that the author has brought the love triangle more into play again but it did truly make sense it’s just a personal pet peeve.
Just as things are starting to get better and even out, nothing can stay quite in a small magical community like Honeysuckle Hollow, right? Of course not.
Following the events of the last book, Honeysuckle Hollow has started to be overrun by the fae as they flock to find a new home in a town that will actually accept them and let them be actual citizens instead of bound help or second class. But when Gran falls ill, the town's expanse rate is the least of Charli's concerns as she races against the clock to figure out what's wrong with Gran and save her.
Probably spoilers below.
The book starts out showing the growing concern in the town because far more are flocking to the town than Charli had expected. What she finds out is because you have to speak carefully to the fae, when she'd invited them to Honeysuckle Hollow, her words had invited everyone. Not just those who were being mistreated in Charleston. Which is leading to the town expanding at a rate that's starting to be hard to contain not just in housing but also jobs and everything as well.
It's also started to pull out some of the same issues in some of the older witches of Honeysuckle, like Aunt Nora who's making her unhappiness at her quite little town turning into a buzzing city very well known. In order to try and help the newcomers mingle with the town and everyone have the ability to get to know each other, the town's welcome committee - which Charli is part of - creates a pot luck that everyone can enjoy.
Leading up to the potluck, we're able to glimpse Mason and Charli's relationship budding more and the two of them really connecting in this new space. At the welcome we get to meet some of the new fae as well as the new shop owner who's opening a massage parlor on main street. Mysterious, flirty, and covered in strange tattoos, what's to be suspicious of him at all.
While Gran isn't feeling well, she's seeming okay so Charli and Mason take a small trip to his home town to get away. Which was a sweet edition for the couple. But when Charli comes home, not all is right. Gran can't be woken up and no one knows what's going on. Aunt Nora is moving in to take over her position as Head of the town council. And Charli is upset with her brother for not calling her sooner when Gran fell ill, because now she feels guilty that she and Mason had a good time while things were happening in the Hollow.
Mason is stuck still back home because he's been asked to assist on a case he'd started working on before he moved to Honeysuckle, but Charli has her friends, her brother, and even Dash is back as Charli works to try and figure out what's wrong with Gran. But also, what's wrong with her friends, because they're starting to act funny or have changes that don't quite make sense. Things become especially dire when the town closes it's borders and wards itself in so that no one can come or go from the town, trapping Mason on the outside at Charli's time of need.
With no other choice, she has to turn to Dash to help her in a dangerous power move in order to save Gran and the town as a whole.
Over all, I think this is one of my favorite of the series so far. I will say, I'm getting to the point between Dash and Mason where I wish the author would just pick one already. We're six books in, Charli seems to be picking Mason, but we're still throwing Dash into the mix to stir the pot, turn her head, twist her heart, and make her second guess some of her choices. And I feel like at this point, if Charli is choosing Mason - then let her choose Mason. I thought, with the shifter being engaged, that would have been the end of that, but nope, he's no longer engaged when he pops up in town, so if course it just stirs the pot between the triangle even though Mason and Charli have shared 'I love yous' with each other.
Not only do we stir the pot with him being in town, but at the end Charli has to bind her soul to his to outwit the crossroads demon, so she's now magically tangled and tied to Dash. And while the author does do a really good job of the whys and it completely fits in the story as plot. The constant back and forth pull between the men is officially getting old.
What I did love too though, was the introduction of the crossroad demons and the lore with them, as well as the deeper dive into the fae since they are a smaller problem that have to be dealt with as far as housing and the like. As well as using them to bind the crossroad demon to her word when she can't claim Charli's soul for the deal. It's a good mystery, a deep and wonderful lore to burrow into and a fantastic edition to the series as a whole.

Charli world is shaken with everything that happens in this book. Charli relationship moves in a bigger direction but Dash is back as well. She has to deal with that. Something strange is going on with the citizens and will take Charlie and others to fix it. Charlie will have to do something that might affect her relationship. Charlie also learns just what her Aunt will do to get power.
I really enjoyed this story of Charlie and the characters of Honey Suckle Hollow. The best part of this series is the way the relationship of Charlie and Mason, I can't wait to see where they go from there. Looking forward to more adventures for Charlie. I didn't want to give any spoilers, I recommend reading this book.
I love this author and enjoy this series as well as her "Southern Relics" series! She has the talent to create characters and situations that thoroughly grip the reader; her villains are perfectly villainous and the core characters charm one into wanting to know them better. This storyline and the magic is complex, and the "love is all" theme is both sweet and powerful. There are new concerns, such as what's up with the cousin, what news do the Grey sisters have, and how will Charli's current reality with Mason and Dash affect the future; however, one of my favorite aspects to these stories is the "happily for now" endings... because with Charli, trouble always rears its head!
Lots of mysteries are to be found in this book. I'm so glad Falls has continued with new books in the series. The complete cast of characters are diverse and each is creative in their own way and bring something to the series. This is my favorite series by Chase and love catching up with where Charlie and her friends are. I like that the book has a real world lesson included of accepting others despite our differences. Our world needs a little more of that even if we aren't living in a magical town.
Why. Just why? Nana is still one of the best, hands down. Even when placed into some kind of coma, she still manages to connect with Charli. When Charli returns from vacation, she begins to see friends acting strange and with the help of Dash, learns who is responsible and needs to figure out how to fix things. It would appear that Honeysuckle Hollow is facing yet another catastrophe.
I just wish we could let the girl's relationship be now. Why do we have to keep dragging crap out?
There is no doubt who is at fault in this current mystery. I am so over this character I feel deep seeded dislike as if she were a real person. I can't remember disliking someone so much. In the end... I hope it's the end. This poor town has been put through enough murder and mayhem. Unfortunately, the love triangle has also been re-opened and I am dreading the outcome. I am completely Team Mason so this new situation has me dismayed. Loving narration by Johanna Parker!
Cornbread and Crossroads, by Bella Falls and narrated by Johanna Parker, is the 6th installment in her Southern Charm Cozy Mystery Series. This one starts off with a bang and keeps on rolling. Filled with adventure, twists and turns, danger, intrigue, subterfuge and romance it will have you laughing one second, angry another and close to tears a moment later. Overall, a great addition to the series. I highly recommend it!
I don't know how it happens but I get wrapped up in the town, characters and relationships in this series. I miss Charli when there is a long lull between adventures. Please continue writing these for my quarterly escapes! Wish I could get an airbnb in the Hollow!
This one is my favorite in the series. Charli and Mason are together as a couple, although I prefer Dash, they work better together. Granny has fallen into some sort of sleeping spell that Charli and the gang can't figure out how to get her out of it. Meanwhile Charli's aunt is up to no good again and is trying to take over the town. Everyone is acting strange and Charli has to figure out a solution before it's too late.
The author weaves this story with Southern Charm and Magic.. And much more forgiveness than I could ever manage. Well done Bella! There were many typo/grammar/proofing mistakes in this one, but we all have our off times.
Charli is once again faced with obstacles that seem impossible yet she always finds a way. There are great gains in her relationships romantic and familial. It was a great book.
This was so good! I love all the twists and turns this story had. Charlie had a rough go and Gram wasn't able to help. With her brother and friends, she stays strong and plows thru to the end.
It's hard to find what to say after binge reading through a series, but it would be wrong to say nothing. I've really enjoyed getting to know Charli and all of Honeysuckle Hollow. The stories are short but funny and sweet.
This story had me on edge the entire time!!! I tried reading it as quickly as possible to find out what happens. In the end it was worth it. It was amazing and full of twist and a pinch of karma for Nora.
You can never go wrong with one of these books. I love the intriguing dialogue. And the ending is so good. You should get all of Balls Falls' books. A great author is one that writes so well you can't put it down! Just ask my Husband!
This was my favorite in the series so far! I love the characters and the different types. I really love how the stereotypes for some of the creatures are broken, like Horatio the Shakespeare loving Orc.
Ok,but….. finished but just could not get into it. Don’t know yet if I’ll readmore. Depends pretty much on how much trouble I have getting a book I want to read. I know, I know, but I’ve 86 yrs old and I fumble a lot. I hate excuses as much as you do, but sometimes…
Love this series. Charli and the other people of Honeysuckle Hollow are like old friends now. Great story. Fabulous characters. Hope to have more soon!!
