The most tragic thing is how slow chapters release 😭
Update 5.8.25 Chapter 49
This is wild. Trapped in a soap opera indeed.
Update: 2.10.25
I let it marinate for 5 months and have only gotten to chapter 41. What a tragedy. Things are definitely getting more interesting. I forgot how creepy this can be. Especially some of the characters. Clearly not creepy enough to stop me from reading.
I thought that this was going to give me my first real proper cry over fictional characters in a while instead of beautiful kpop boys, but alas it did not. It came close though, I could feel the tears trying to escape.
Ummm but yeah. Of course there was a cliffhanger. Now I have to let it marinate another 5 months.
Up to chapter 29
Official English Name according to Webtoon: Trapped in a Soap Opera
Y'all they weren't lying when they said Soap Opera 🤣 it's craaazy and I kind of love it. The characters all look so sleepy looking and are a little unhinged.
over-the-top melodrama level cliche tropes and scenes. obsessive and aggressive male leads. cunning and manipulative female main character. a sprinkle of business talks. if any of these tick your boxes, read the novel.
the mc suddenly had a heart attack one day and got transmigrated into a crappy contemporary romance drama she had watched. she ends up possessing the body of the main villainess of the drama. mc has to work hard and strategise plans for the three male leads who were responsible for the main villain's bad endings. however, due to her working hard to mend the relationships and to gain back her ruined reputation, the male leads seem to perceive her in a new light. will the entanglement of the male leads be a cheat code or a hindrance to her survivability?
the whole drama was a MESS. when i first started the novel, the male leads were irredeemable to me. the obnoxious characters were hard to sympathize for (aside from the fmc). admittedly, i poured a lot of frustrations into this novel because of injustices our fmc faced and the aggression she endured from ml candidates. what i didn't like about fmc's character was that she was easily swayed by the mls when mls showed their vulnerable side, literally after pushing past her boundaries and doing something without the fmc's consent. though the ml candidates' groveling arc was satisfying.
the plot twists made me shit myself—not in an amazing way but rather in between a line of "what?" and "wtf?". but im not going to lie, i was gagged. it was funny enough to think bout the root cause of the problem.
what made me stay throughout the disaster was to see mc's happy ending. i had grown attached to the fmc along the journey. she had the grievances and the desire to survive and a dream. witnessing her resiliency and perseverance paid off was something made me content and maybe not hate too much the novel
favorite dynamic: the friendship between 2nd male lead and fmc after reconciliation arc / mc and her deadbeat father's right hand man father-daughter relationship
favorite character except fmc: a controversial take, but 3rd male lead (had a crazy tension with mc, is funny, deprecating humor is his breakfast)
