Will his daring debutante rescue reveal the traitor to the crown?
Lily Davies' first—and final, if she has anything to say about it—Season in London is mercifully coming to an end. Exhausted by the parade of balls, importuning gentlemen, and the endless dismissal of her suspicions about a certain captain, Lily wants nothing more than to return to her quiet life of country walks and intensive study. Unfortunately for this bluestocking, she is besieged en route to Derbyshire and kidnapped by a highwayman.
In London to assist his brother, the brand new Earl of Talbot, Captain Nathan Jones is on the hunt for the traitor to the crown. But when it becomes clear that Miss Davies' life is very much in danger, Captain Jones is dispatched to ensure the reluctant debutante travels safely. Escorting her safely home will also give him the perfect opportunity to question Miss Davies about the highly dubious gifts she's been receiving from the French.
As Captain Jones becomes the unlikely hero to a very uncooperative damsel in distress, he quickly learns that rescuing Miss Davies is only the beginning of his troubles. One unfortunate compromise leaves this pair with no choice but to head for the altar, and the unnecessary distraction just might ruin his opportunity to uncover the identity of the traitor once and for all.
Golden Angel is a USA Today best-selling author of heart and bottom warming romance.
She is happily married, old enough to know better but still too young to care, and a big fan of happily-ever-afters, strong heroes and heroines, and sizzling chemistry.
When not in front of her computer writing, she can be found sewing her next project, hanging out with friends, or wandering the grounds of the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
This one is my favorite of the series thus far! I really liked Lily and Nathan, and this story had a lot of twists that made it move very quickly.
Lily Davies is the goddaughter of a Duke which elevates her status significantly; thus, she was sought by gentlemen all season long. While she could be considered a beauty by most, all of her suitors were less than complimentary about her intelligence as they considered her too much of a bluestocking. Heaven forbid a woman in this time have a brain and be able to carry on conversations about things other than balls, charity work, and the latest ton gossip! Needless to say, the season was a bust for Lily and she is looking forward to some time in the country. However, as she is being escorted there by her lady's maid, they are accosted by a highwayman that decides to take her captive! Soon Lily discovers that this was no robbery, but an intentional kidnapping as she is taken to a hidden cottage and interrogated.
Captain Nathan Jones is the second son of an Earl; the earl has just passed on, and his brother has inherited, so he was sent to London to handle affairs there as their father grossly mismanaged the estate's funds and things are in shambles. Captain Jones is also a trusted agent of the British Spymaster, so his duties in London are twofold: help his brother and find the traitor among them. As he is enjoying his morning ride, he is shot at. The perpetrator narrowly misses him, and he manages to make it back to the Spymaster's home safely only to learn that numerous assassination attempts are being made that morning. When concern is expressed for Lily Davies' safety knowing she was heading out of London that morning, Nathan immediately jumps into action to locate her. He has had some suspicion about Lily, especially as it relates to her correspondence with the French, given that they are high on the suspect list. Is she truly in danger or is this ploy? Will Nathan be able to find Lily in time before the villain gets his hands on her? What will happen if her reputation is ruined as a single, now unchaperoned lady? And is the danger lurking much closer than any of them imagined?
What I liked: --- Likeable main characters --- Revisiting the characters of the earlier books and getting to see those relationships develop further --- Some twists and turns thrown in to keep things interesting and moving forward --- Steamy goodness, early and often!
What I didn't like as much: --- It was ridiculously obvious from the start who the "bad guy" was in this story (and by from the start, I mean from the start of the series); I am hoping there is more to it (like maybe a badder bad behind it all) bc it was disappointing --- Lily went from virgin who knows little about sex to being into harder core BDSM in a week. Um... not very realistic. --- Nathan's suspicions about Lily
Overall, I liked this story with the fast-moving plot and the steamy goodness, and I am very much looking forward to the last installment (despite the author giving the H for the next book a "short and stocky" description in this one).
Please note that I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Plot --- 4.25/5 Main Characters --- 4.25/5 Supporting Cast --- 4/5 Steam Level* --- 4/5 Violence --- nothing graphic Language --- some POV --- 3rd
*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all
The plot thickens in this season’s hunt for traitors, and i was more than ready to find out more. So,when the ARC of A Season for Smugglers arrived,i couldn’t wait to dive in. And what i got,was even more than i hoped for….even if things looked véry bad at first!
The Season is coming to an end,and Lily is more than happy to leave London and go home. Only,on the way there, her carriage is stopped by a highwayman and to save her poor maid, she’s forced to go with him….. Luckily, captain Jones finds her before anything bad happens. Not so lucky is the storm forcing the two to stay at the cottage the highwayman took her to. Forcing the good captain to tell the people that find them the next day they’re engaged to be married. That’s a good thing….right? This way she can find out if he’s the traitor or not….right? Not that she’s attracted to him…..even if he’s so damn goodlooking!
Nathan liked to go out for a ride in the morning, and with the Season nearly done, the park is finally a little quieter. Until someone fires a shot…..at him! Finding out he isn’t the only target is troubling, and making sure everyone is safe is most important. With Lily missing,Nathan is the one to go after her,and he’s relieved to find her unharmed. After being forced to spend the night together,he has to protect her good name by marrying her. That’s a good thing….right? That way he can find out what she’s been up to….right? Not that he’s attracted to her….even if she looks so beautiful after he spanked her!
Married life starts with more trouble when his brother is killed, making him the Earl of Talbot. Their friends join them at Brentwood Manor, lending their support. They soon have to admit everything that happened, happened for a reason…. But who is responsible? Who is the person that planned it all??
Lily and Nathan’s journey to happiness was a rocky one,but they were só good together! Once Nathan realized Lily liked what he did to her,was in fact eager for more,he lowered his defences and saw her for who she was. And once Lily realized she liked what Nathan did to her,she wanted to explore. And she found she trusted him with her body….and her heart.
Even though the traitor is still not caught,i loved this story. I ám hoping Evie and Anthony will be able to save the day in their story,A Season for Spies, though!
A steamy mystery full of intrigue! Enough heat to light a fire but that’s not to say that it lacks in story. The ongoing plot of treason and murder leaves a great mystery nestled into the steamy romance of Lily and Nathan. Like a true gothic novel, the events of the first week of this relationship are so unbelievable that they work completely. These two can not be anymore caught unaware of their own feelings. Both believing the other May in fact have some part in the treason, it is truly remarkable that they are able to come to such a quick understanding of trust. This story is not for the faint of heart, but definitely enjoyable.
I enjoyed this book. The storyline was fun, the chemistry was seductive and the sparks fiery! Lily and Nathan made a great couple that was easy to root for. This book delivers a delectable combination of drama, suspense, emotions, action, mystery, humor and steam that I found simply irresistible! If you like your historical romance with a kinky twist, you don't want to miss this series. I am posting an elective, candid review.
This was the first book in this series that I've read by Golden Angel. I do not typically read this trope in the romance genre, but was wanting something different. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Although it is the third book in the DECEPTION AND DISCIPLINE series with a thread running through the series, I didn't feel completely lost. It was a good standalone, but I do want to go back to read the first two books as well as continue the series. The storyline was good with steamy parts and great characters. I smiled and laughed several times, but my heart squeezed at other times. Good read.
*Thank you Netgalley, The Next Step PR, and Golden Angel for the ARC of this book. This is my voluntary and honest review.
Golden Angel has kept us guessing these past few books of just who the traitor to the country could be. BUT boy am I enjoying the relationships that form during this challenge. Lily is so fabulously strong willed and snarky. Nathan is not sure what hits him…… But together they make smexy times, knock heads and personalities and generally make a fine mess of things…….but boy are they fun to read as the work towards their HEA ;)
Following a kidnappping by a highwayman, Lily and Nathan end up getting married to save Lili's reputation. In search of the traitor with her three friends, Lily is suspicious of Nathan and his family as rumours are they delt In smuggling during the war, and they smuggled more than just contraband goods. Nathan is suspicious of Lily because of her vast net of correspondence. When they end up being married, both are determined to investigate each other. While visiting Nathan's family eastat, they get to know each other better and even fall in love. But the traitor they are trying to catch had launched a series of attacks on the the life of the people they care about and it will be up to Lily, Nathan and the other couples of the series to put an end to him. We also get to know Evie and Anthony, the couple of the last book in the series, a bit better. Nathan and Lily are more suited than both of them thought they would ever be; both of them are scholars, readers and tend to think things through. Nathan is also an inventor, and the scene where he uses one of the sex machines he had built on Lily is hot AF! This is a lovely book with great characters, good dialogues, and an interesting story line. It's a great addition to the series.
A Season for Smugglers, by Golden Angel. Well what can I say about all the interesting ways that this book has entertained me? I absolutely loved the exciting suspense that was peppered by some steamy, hot, intense, electric flying, pulse pound, sensual entanglements that Nathan and Lily really enjoyed together. I thought having all the characters from the Sin club was an awesome idea. What better way to hunt down an assassin then to have the people their that you know will have your back. I always appreciate it when the writer creates a lady’s character be of a strong, mind and body. Lily’s character was great. Having pairs with Nathan was perfect. Both of them had a naughty mind that suits with this book. The hunting and chasing down the assassins provided great entertainment that keeps the book moving. The excitement of the wicked interludes was saucy and very wet. I believe that the book is easy to read and the subject or plot of the story keeps the reader engaged with the book. I loved the book from beginning to end. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!
I love the characters and the setting, but you're just dropped into the story. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've last read the series so it took a while for me to remember who everyone was, their relation to one another and the over-arching plot going on.
However, once I did, the story moved at a good pace, the characters didn't behave in ridiculous ways and the steamy moments were indeed steamy.
My favorite part about this book was in fact the bedroom scenes because Golden Angel incorporated some new devices so it wasn't just the same old wham-bam historical sexy times.
I will say, that even though I believe that the two leads fall in love with each other, I did not feel it as much as the past two pairings which was a bit of a disappointment. That being said, I would still recommend this historical kinky romance because the writing is still engaging and you'll still probably have a good time reading it.
It's time for more historical spying, romance, heat, and of course love. I have loved this series from the very first book and could not wait to read Lily's story. She is what they called bluestocking; a very well read female... in other means a woman I can relate to. Lol.
The season is over and the ton is read to leave London. However a turn of events changes Lily's attempt to leave and she is forced into marriage to Nathan. Nathan wasn't looking for marriage. But after a few assassination attempts, Lily's kidnapping, and a stormy night they are found the next morning by a man of the ton who loves to gossip.
I have always found Nathan intriguing. He's been friends with Elijah for years. He's a bit of a mystery and invents the most interesting machines. He's also a member of the society of sin (which since the season is over we don't get to visit). We get to know him a lot better. He has his own turmoil to deal with. In one weeks time he goes from single, to married, to dealing with a funeral and becoming an Earl, to falling in love. That's a lot. But he takes it in stride and with Lily's help and the help of their friends he gets through it all.
Lily is a force to be reckoned with. She’s smart, kind, beautiful, and has a good right hook. This marriage isn't something that she wanted but it helps make her a better woman; a stronger woman. Not to mention she starts to discover the benefits of martial bliss and everything her friends, Mary and Josie, have told her about. She's not afraid to ask for what she wants and to explore the things that scare her. She's Nathan's perfect match.
I just loved getting to know these two. From the first page, to the very last, they have buried themselves into a warm place in my heart. Now to wait patiently for Evie's story... that one will be the end game!
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review*
The search for a spy gets too close; murder attempts, kidnapping and more. Lily and her friends are also looking for the spy - as the men are not sharing their information. A forced marriage may be just the thing both parties needed.
A delightful journey back to old England, with folks who may not necessarily follow all the rules of the ton, but who support friends and country. When each pair in this series falls, they fall hard. Will this be the case for Lily and Nathan? Pure entertainment.
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
I reaaaally like this series. Historical romance with spankings is definitely my thing. Nathan and Lily were perfect for each other and they didn’t even know it. Everyone else saw it coming before they did. I was a little sad not to see another get together of the Society but this was most excellent and Nathan is quite the inventor. 😏💜
A Season for Smugglers is the third book in the Deception and Discipline series. While the romance stands alone, there is an overarching storyline that will make best sense if read in order. Lily is on her way home when she’s kidnapped by a highway man! Even more scandalous is when her rescuer, Captain Nathan Jones, must stay with her overnight in the cabin due to rain. With her reputation ruined, they must get married, but with the traitor breathing down their backs, can they learn to trust each other and find love and keep each other safe in the process?
Oh my goodness, I felt like I was on the edge of my seat right from the very beginning of this book! Nathan and Lily completely captivated me, and this series has seriously left me on pins and needles! I need to know what happens next! With that in mind, this romance does have a happy ending! Okay, I have to admit that I was really excited about this book because Lily and Nathan seem to rub each other the wrong way, but they’re also really similar. Both are practical, logical, and scientific in their thoughts. Lily is fun because she won’t take crap or superficial from anyone, especially her husband and best friends. Nathan is almost wicked with his intensity and passions, but I loved that he had a vulnerable side that he wouldn’t show to anyone except Lily. I loved their passion, their relationship, and their trials they needed to overcome in order to find their happily ever after. This book pulled at my heart, swoon over the steam and heat and heart from this couple, made me want to become besties with these amazing ladies, and desperate for the next book!
Lily Davies and Nathan Jones are both involved in the hunt for a traitor to the crown and they are suspicious of one another… When they are forced by circumstances to marry, will their mistrust ruin the possibility of a happy marriage and hamper the discover of the traitor? I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this book! It’s entertaining, fast-paced, full of plot twists and, of course, steamy! The mystery plot is perfectly mixed with the more erotic side and there’s emotion and a little angst as well. I liked the characters, especially Lily. I liked that she’s not shy, not ashamed of what she likes and of her desires. She enjoys the “punishments” and that’s a must for me, since I must admit I’m not a fan of nonconsensual spankings and excessively “stern” heroes. This book can be read as a standalone, but admittedly reading the previous two helps quite a lot. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Hold onto your seats, this is going to be a roller coaster of a ride reading this story. It never lets up (okay for a few pages in the middle) and never lets you go. Pay attention because something is bound to happen just around the corner. Not only is this story a bit sexy, it is also full of what I like in a story – spies, smugglers, military, and spymasters. Nathan and Lily are a perfect couple. No shying away from what they want and need. I really like how Lily understood Nathan’s needs and was there for him. Looking forward to the next book which should be a doozy.
Book three in the series and it starts off right where the previous book left off. It took me a few chapters to get back into the story, trying to figure out who was who again.
So far for me this book is the least of the series. I really enjoyed the first two books because it had great interaction between the two ‘ lovers’ and it made me laugh a lot. In this book there is a lot going on, people are dropping dead left and right and because of that I missed real interaction between Nathan and Lily. Of course there is interaction, but I felt the book was more about what was happening around them and the interaction between all the friends than the ‘lovers’.
That being said it was still a fast paced enjoyable read and I look forward to the last book.
I think this has been one of my favorite of this series so far. Picking up right where the last book left off, the group is still in search of the traitor. Nathan and Lilli each are suspicious of the other, so of course they end up compromised and forced to marry to save reputations. I loved how these two, who had an attraction, but certainly didn't want to necessarily marry, figured out their roles with one another. They both needed to communicate more and of course there was a ton of upheaval in their lives as so as they said their "I do". But they genuinely cared for each other and just seemed to work. Next up is the last story and the one with the most secrets I'm sure.
I received this book from the author and I'm voluntarily leaving this honest and unbiased review.
Book 3 and this is Lily and Nathan's story. We're getting closer to finding out who the traitors are so things have "stepped up" quite a bit. There was so much going on in this story that I honestly had to reread in several places to remember what happened! Normally I read the whole book in one sitting but it took several days to get this one finished. Not because it was bad but because there was a lot happening and I expect that with the end coming soon. I loved the connection between Lily and Nathan and watching their relationship develop into something neither of them expected. Oh how I want the next story as I honestly have no clue who the baddies are!! LOL I'll be eagerly waiting for the next book in this series!!!
When danger lurks, it's best to keep your secrets close. But secrets are what causes the most damage, especially in a marriage of convenience. For Nathan, stepping up and doing the honourable thing by proposing marriage is the only option when discovered by a notorious gossip. For Lily, following the foibles of the Ton, is exhausting. But needs must when she is abducted by a highwayman and found in an awful situation. But can this unfortunate situation come to mean more than first glance?
I love this series so much, and this book didn't disappoint! I've been interested in the machines since Nathan was first introduced, so finally being able to read about them in action was awesome, as was the development of Lily and Nathan's relationship (especially the obliviousness of them both). Can't wait for the next installment, and will probably be re-reading this one a few times too!
The plot just keeps getting thicker in this series. I think that this is my favorite book so far. Lily and Nathan are forced together but also skeptical of the others involvement in the treason that's going on. Lots of mystery, action, love and a bit of humor make this an intriguing read!
This is a continuing arc through the series so we see more mystery and suspense along with more heat and spankings galore. Lily and Nathan don't start off on the right foot but their chemistry can't be denied.
The plot thickens and the danger increases in this 3rd book of the series. Two of our "ladies who spy" are married now, with over-protective husbands that want to keep them from joining the investigations. Honestly, as if the men would ever solve this case of treason without the women and their insights. This time it is bookish Lily that meets her match - or rather, has her match decided for her after she is kidnapped, then rescued, and her reputation is ruined. Don't you just hate malicious gossips? All turns out well in the end, Lily and Nathan are a love (and depravity) match after all. So much intrigue and danger, assassination attempts and successes, this story just gets better and better. I can't wait for Evie's story and for the traitors to the crown to finally be caught (I hope). Don't start with this book - go back to the beginning and read A Season for Treason and meet the characters and the plot from the beginning. So good!
The h a quiet achiever is underestimated by the H at first. They are compromised and discover they are pleased with each other. We see all the characters in the series, with the baddie still lurking in the background. Good balance of adventure with kinky steam.
Lily Davies has never enjoyed the Season, with what seems like an endless parade of balls and potential suitors. Yet when she is kidnapped by a highwayman, on her way to Derbyshire, Captain Nathan Jones is sent to save her and in doing so finds himself having to save her reputation and marry her. So, when married life brings more adventure than Lily could hope for, it soon seems that their romance, may be shortened as their lives might be in danger.
The third book in the series and not having read the earlier two books, I felt that the connection to the previous book could have been made clearer. However, this book was fast paced and the romance between Lily and Nathan, passionate! An interesting storyline that was aided by the many great characters.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really loved ❤️ this book. I love Historical Romances in general and I especially love them when there is spanking included. Also since this is a story by Golden Angel there is a lot of 🔥 and some butt stuff too! I just love ❤️ all of the books I have read by Golden Angel and this is yet another winner. This has the Forced Marriage Trope, but the H and the h get along quite well from the start as they are really quite well suited to each other. One does not really have to read the previous books in this series, but I strongly advise one to read the entire series starting from the first book as this book continues the story line and it has most of the characters from the first two books in this one as secondary characters. I can hardly wait for the final book in this series in which we get to read about Evie. I hope that you enjoy this book as much as I did. I do not think we yet know who the Spider Master is, one of the traitors was revealed, but I strongly suspect that he has someone behind him as his Master, just my opinion and I have no real evidence. Smugglers and Spies and Spanking, oh my!
I received an advance ebook copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for review.
A Season for Smugglers by Golden Angel is the third book of Deception and Discipline. This book follows Lily and Nathan. When debutante Lily is kidnapped by a highwayman, Captain Nathan Jones comes to her rescue. There is a traitor to the crown who may be involved in all the events happening recently, and both Lily and Nathan are determined to discover who it is. Lily is uncooperative during her rescue because she is suspicious of Nathan. Nathan is also suspicious of Lily. The two are forced to wed to avoid scandal.
This is a very different historical romance. I enjoyed the spy aspect a lot.
Nathan and Lily's love story was a lot of fun. The drawings and machines were awesome editions. I liked that the men are learning to include the women more even for the wrong reasons. Eventually maybe they'll learn that the women are their equals.
Where I felt the book was not quite as good as the last two because the villain is not part of much of the story. I missed the dramatic tension that existed in the first two books with the traitors antics. I really wanted to see a showdown between Nathan, Lily, and the traitor. The begining scene with Lily and the kidnapper was so frightening with heightened tension but then the ending didn't have that.
Lily and Nathan found happiness so quickly that I missed the byplay between the main characters. There was fun interplay between Ellie and Anthony.
So while this book is enjoyable and, definitely necessary to read if you love the series as much as I do, but it's not as exciting as the previous two books.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
A fun quick read with spice. I like how the stories in this series work together to introduce the characters and the overarching and entwined story that connects the characters. I do enjoy that each story in the series gets to the love connection in different ways and the characters are all individual.
