Wow. Underwater explosions, mysterious illness and more. What else could happen. One women’s fight to save her family. Once you start reading , you’ll be caught up in the story. More by these fantastic authors.
A fabulous start to this post-apoc series. Fascinating characters and events and an imaginative take on the apocalypse without going down the too often trodden roads of EMPs and viruses. Its always fun to watch humanity get what it deserves from nature. Can't wait for the rest of the series.
Near Mauritius, a MOHO island explodes; a seabed exploration vehicle scanning an enlarging underwater crevasse, which is releasing huge amounts of methane gas that could prove fatal to the submersible, as well as marine life and the global ecology. Even more deadly though, is the huge eruption of scalding thermally-heated seawater, near the Indian sub-continent, followed by clouds of poisonous methane gas. The pyroclastic surge causes an unimaginable loss of life and property on the coast of America and the east coast of Africa, as does a sonic boom that shatters windows, eardrums and more, while traveling at incredible speeds across the globe. Wherever the disastrous results of the explosions and gas are felt, survivors start to riot, realising that most stores of food, water and medical supplies will soon be diminished, if not gone altogether, making a terrible ordeal even worse. Where possible the National Guard are deployed to try to restore law and order, though not always successfully. Ships are swamped and aircraft unable to fly safely, due to the huge ash clouds reducing visibility to a few metres at best. It seems like Armageddon and as Tara Ellis and Mike Kraus so skilfully portray, a catastrophic reality that could happen at any time in real life.
If you like survivalist, end-of-the-world scenarios, and tales of bravery, loss and sacrifice, contrasted with mankind's abuse of nature and her resources which we take for granted, get your copy of Point of Extinction today - it will really grab your attention and make you realise how we all need to respect our planet, while we still have a chance to save it!
Just when you think current events couldn't be worse, guess what? This book will prove that wrong. The amount of scientific detail given to the events is amazing. The characters are so easy to become involved with. And if you've ever worked in an engineering field, the personalities hit the nail on the head. Each one contributes to the story. The mega event involves a mistake by large corporation. After the tsunami in Japan you can see the after events happening! Are they more than just money hungry, do people disappear when they work for the company? With the ending you find yourself more interested in the people, leaving the company hanging in the back of your mind. I finished the book and can't for the next one when it hits the press in February.
While this had a different premise for disaster, there were a lot of very familiar elements in it- a guy with PTSD and a nefarious shadowy company in cahoots with military types. On the subject of the PTSD guy, if he was a Marine, wouldn't medical personnel be corpsmen and not medics? The writing was decent and I gave it a 4 because I learned something new. I had not heard of the Mohorovicic Discontinuity so this was an opportunity to look that up. I do look forward to the next book.
This is a really good book. It's the beginning of a series so this one sets everything up for the rest of the story. It introduces you to the main players all while things are going wrong all over the world. It keeps you captive as these people interact about the volcanoes going off all over. But this is not the worst. The worst is still to come.
This series pulls you in from the first chapter. I read books 1&2 in 1 day. I love this series and can't wait for more. It has everything I love....volcanoes erupting and a pandemic!!!
This is most definitely a most unusual and exciting apocalypse. It’s mind spinning how much disaster can be had in a short period of time. There is nothing tame! The characters are coming together and they’re a richly drawn bunch that stand out on the page. I can’t wait for book 2!
Wow. The Indian Ocean, underwater volcanic eruption. And all that follows causing a cauldera, eruption. Starting in Seattle, slowly the Pacific ring of fire, and other underground activities.
A lot of interaction throughout the first book has set the stage for continuing the story several ways. A great collection of players for future books. Great reading.
Interesting characters, lots of action, and the author does a great job at introducing each characters part of the story. Really good first book in series. I'm off to read the next one.
Book 1 of this series is amazing by Tara Ellis and Mike Kraus
What started out as a new island and has evolved into a cataclysmic chain of events around the world has some scratching their heads. The who, why and where of these seemingly unconnected disasters will shock many.
A fantastic book! I am a huge fan of Tara Ellis and Mike Kraus. Love their books individually written as well as a team. I am totally into this series!! Looking forward to starting book 2!!!
A volcano eruption nd underwater explosion cause earthquakes throughout the ring of fire. Can people work out how to save the word? Meeting up with men fron Icons Peta and Dylan run for the helicopter to try and keep ahead of the Ash cloud. They need to refuel and pick up two passengers before reaching the boat and relative safety. An excellent read for all lovers of apocalyptic books.
The science, while unlikely is not impossible and the characters are believable and well developed. New twist on post apocalyptic thrillers definitely worth a read,
So many characters, following each as they survive or not. With the world feeling the effects of the anomaly . Read the next thrill book in this series.
I was up all night to find out "what happens next"! One event just rolled into another, so, I had to keep turning pages. Anyone familiar with apocalyptic/dystopian novels knows that the cast of main characters is just important as actual circumstances, maybe more important. The characters in Point of Extinction are extremely well developed and very interesting. I'm looking forward to reading the remaining books in this series to see how all the strands come together. I highly recommend it.
Very well written scary story of greedy people and the effect on nature and the human race all over the world. You got to wonder if it’s worth surviving the devastation. Will see in the next book!
Fast-paced and realistic, this action-packed story of the struggle to survive a global disaster will keep you turning pages late into the night! Good read!
Interesting premise, set in many different locals which made keeping track of the characters a little complex. So far, a promising start to the "Extinction" series.
Beware there are a lot of pieces moving about in this novel. People and places around the globe are effected from an underwater volcano and seafloor collapse.
I have read many earthquake apocalyptic, volcano and earthquake books. This one topped them all. The way it happens make you really think, because it could occur that way. The methane gas clouds from oceans or lakes are responsible for many boats and ships going missing. Bermuda Triangle maybe? Anyway, I recommend this book, I could hardly put it down once I started. I hope the second one in the series is out.
Point of Extinction is a brilliant first book in the series. It’s not a 100mph book but it’s just got something that seems to hold me and keep me reading. I loved it and I really recommend everyone to read it.
Enjoyable reading which makes one think what if. Have read a lot of Mike's book and now the combination of him and Tara keeps you on your toes. However it's costing me hours of sleep😂
A solid start to what should be an interesting series.
Personally, I enjoy books with lots of characters and perspective changes. I actually felt like I was reading (and visualising) a movie or TV series with all the characters and quick scene changes. I don't think the multiple characters were confusing or harmful to the flow of the story. It was a really fast paced book that kept me interested right from the first pages. My biggest hope is that there will be more character development in the future books and look forward to getting to know some characters more in-depth, like Peta.
I really appreciate books that teach me new things and I found myself putting the book down on several occasions just so I could go and research more about the things I was reading, for example - the MOHO and the Davarza Gas Crater.
I also enjoyed the mystery being weaved into the dramatic story of survival and look forward to seeing how it all unfolds.
