I hate losing and I appear to be on some streak.

Dorian Gray’s painting was never in the vault of the library. We currently have no idea where it is and the only person who can track it is probably being held hostage in a storage yard with all kinds of cursed objects. Balthazar’s dick is still cursed and there’s no easy way to remove it. I already made it worse once. I hope it doesn’t fall off this time. I was totally against marrying Reyson when he woke up and announced I would be his new wife, but my resolve on that is starting to weaken. I’m starting to care for the damned god.

The only people who know where Dorian’s painting is at are Dorian and Bram’s demon master. Even if we find Dorian, we can’t kill him without his painting. I know better than anyone that when a witch really doesn’t want you getting into their things, the results are usually fatal. I get we need the demon overlord, but if we are all risking our lives to get him out of that trap, he’d better grant Bram his freedom because I like having that Hellhound around.

I’m starting to care for all these people that have crashed into my life and library, but I miss the normal days here of helping with curses, spells, and territory disputes. I’d like to disappear into our erotica section for a little while and pretend Dorian Gray isn’t building a supernatural army.

This book somehow takes a wonderful concept to a forgettable book so forgettable that I forgot to copy and paste this review from my Google Drive into Goodreads. I did not notice for two months. The forgetfulness stems not from a lack of originality in the concepts but the repetitive nature of the writing - we get it dick jokes especially superhuman ones are funny?? and Professor Krauss is a legendary badass, making this read a slog. I love literature references and have since the beginning but my love of Oscar Wilde and mythology can only take me so far in liking a book. 2 out of 5 stars. J.B. Trepagnier can and has done so much better writing and narrative wise. I think I'm going to have to give her the My Beautiful Monsters series a reread so it can remind me of why I read her books and to overcome the discouragement to continue this has left me with. Nonetheless I am going to finish whatever comes out in the series because I mentally need conclusions and my mama ain't raise no quitter.

Oh… in the first book review of the series I left out one of the men from the list accidentally. Bram. The hellhound. Has a demon master and is functionally a slave / literal dog. It deeply disturbed me how hellhounds’ human sides are virtually ignored and are studded out with other hellhounds like breeders do with dogs on earth. I know it was the point to criticize how we view others but this was a step too far especially since in Trepagnier’s other novels involving Hell there have been changes to the political structure of hell . My understanding is that most of her works fall in this universe and for some reason Serafina, Sauron and River haven’t done jack for the hell hounds? Well… either they are terribly ingenuine in the prior books or this was a literary oversight by Trepagnier.

Final verdict… 2 stars.

I loved this one just as much as the first book.
The guys are amazing and I really love them. Fun, witty, sexy and just a good time read.
Now I have to wait forever for the next book. I will wait not patiently but I will still wait none the less.

4.5 stars.
Things are heating up.
Both plot wise and relationship wise.
And I’m excited.
That ending was really abrupt, but I’m not worried about it because I know there’s another book.
I do need answers though.

I like how things are progressing.
I’m gonna go read that last book now.

Considering the last book was the introduction and start of a middle, I expected this book to pick it up straight in the action, but nope. It took until 18% for them to even talk about the issue, and halfway through to do anything. And then it’s over at 60% and they sit around and talk for the rest of the book.
There’s harem building and sex scenes, but little in the way of moving the plot forward. The sex scenes were weird. It reflects back while in the scene and tells you about their lead up and whatnot, but they don’t actually do it on page. It’s like the author shied away from anything too graphic, then goes and does it anyway.
There are a few instances where it contradicts itself or characters in the literal next line and paragraph, and some odd time jumps that maybe weren’t jumps but read like some.
It's just not doing it for me.

This book was so amazing! JB has done it again! What I also loved, was that the author brought in Beyla and Kaine from the book “Final Curtain”! It so unique and awesome when authors do this.

The characters are very unique and their personalities are so different, but all them compliment each other to the point where everyone is family.

I just finished the book was longer. It was 181 pages, but I wanted more. I will also admit that I kinda wanted more prolonged, more detailed romantic scenes..!

Ripley’s males: Reyson, Balthazar, Felix, Gabriel, and Bram are so so sexy and yummy! All of them care for Ripley, and I find their actions and thoughts toward her endearing.

Book 3 needs to be released sooner rather than later due to that shocking, yet a little frustrating ending!!!

Review is of my opinion.

Great next entry in the series, but a shame it wasn’t longer and we have to wait until September to find out what happens with that little cliffhanger.

Like the first book, this one was chaotic (in a good way) with fast pacing and a mix of the serious and the humorous. All the guys are distinct and interesting, helped along by the multi-P.O.V.s. I loved that we got introduced to Ripley’s twin Ravyn, and I suspect that she’ll have her own spin off at some point. Kaine and Beyla were interesting and I believe are characters from one of Trepagnier’s other books (Final Curtain possibly?), though I haven’t read that one.

There’s also some terrific worldbuilding in this entry, specifically in how god powers work and about demons, hell and Hellhounds.

As I had my kindle reading the complete set to me I honestly don't even know where this book ended and the third began. Ripley continues to be a badass librarian with one goal in mind: protect the library. If she can have fun with the guys at the same time she's all for it and I really enjoyed her carefree attitude. Though things between the group move almost too fast, each guy was given enough of a unique personality that they were easy to differentiate between.
Making a deal with a demon is something we all should know better than to do. It never ends well and there is 0% chance of you screwing them over. You will lose your soul and that's that. Of course the never dying Dorian Grey of all people thinks he can screw over the system and Ripley at the same time. The guys each provide something essential to the story but I kinda think her big bad Chaos God is my favorite. Here's to hoping they all make it out alive and in one piece.

Made it through the first book without too much of a struggle. Could not finish this one. Too much repetitive exposition, felt like half the book was written to fill pages and space rather than be actual content. Characters and plot are transparent. Only requires around a 3rd grade reading level, and could very much have used some more editing.

Recensione in italiano
A presto, S.

English review
The first book ,which could have been a little more introductory, was more structured than this 🤷‍♀️ I expected a little more action , instead there is the construction of the harem, sex scenes but not much else, the plot does not advance. The sex scenes perhaps even stranger than in the previous book, and the characters shallow and immature. The writing is repetitive and in some cases contradicts itself, but... something compelled me to continue and finish the book 😂 it may be that some of the guys in the harem were cute, it may be the curiosity to find out who is behind the call for the resurrection of the god and figure out what is going on, is it going to war? I don't know, some question marks I wanted the answers to so I went ahead and read the third one as well, even though the series is turning out to be more trashy than I expected 😜
See you soon, S.

**This is a review of the series. This review will be posted for all three books. NO spoilers**

Starting off, I liked the books. I like the storyline and I liked the characters (besides maybe Lilith. I'm not that forgiving and she should have stepped up way sooner). It was interesting and compelling while successfully merging some serious and funny moments. It’s nice reading about people who are free in who they are. It makes that much more entertaining when they shake the view of people with a stick up their asses.

With that said, there were definitely some editorial mistakes that were very annoying. It didn’t help that it got worse with each book released.

Main problem? The typos. There would be words added that were in the middle of a sentence that should have been. There were also quite a few words that had the wrong verb tense attached to them (ex. smile, smiled, vs smiling). The most common mistake seemed to be the author combining two different formats for a sentence. Ex. The dog went to fetch the stick. vs The dog fetched the stick. This gets turned into The dog went fetched the stick. This happened way too much in the last book.

There was also this repetitive nature in the books. The same thing was said again and again, word for word. Straight up copy and paste. It takes away the fluidity of the story when I go “Wait. Didn’t I just read that? Word for word?” Yes, people tell the same story over and over again, but each time it’s told, there is always something a little different. No one says the same thing word for word unless they’re reading from a script.

And the last thing is becoming one of my BIGGEST pet peeves when reading rh books. I can't tell who’s saying what sometimes! For whatever reason, the author doesn’t clarify who is speaking. Like a page will look like this

“blah blah blah”
“blah blah blah”
“blah blah blah”
“blah blah blah”

With no mention of who’s speaking! It should look like this

“blah blah blah”, said Ripley.
Bram said “blah blah blah”
“blah blah blah,” said Felix.

Or one of the many different ways there is to do that. I don’t know why so many authors (especially rh authors), don’t specify when they have five characters conversing at once. If it’s just two characters speaking, then fine. Whatever. One speaks then the other speaks. But that’s not what happens! It’s so annoying!

I really enjoy reading this series. As I said in my first review, this series is meant to be my "breaker" from the series, I read before.

So, the aspect, that is on one hand a fast read and in the other hand, in some parts of the plot, slower, suits my needs perfectly. I know for some that's bad.

But even if this book isn't a "breaker" for me, I think it suits the style. Sure, there are flaws. Or said otherwise: Things, I don't like much. Like a not properly made character development. For this book it means, that you can differ the characters from each other, but you don't get much on the background and about their lives before and the families. And it has insta-love. Which isn't per se a bad thing. But I like it, if the relationship building is more natural. That means slower, but not slow burn. I don't like that either. The perfect book, for me, has in the best case a mix of a slow burn and a fast burn book. Simply means, they could find each other attractive from the start, but don't have to jump each other directly. More, they could have time to learn about each other and develop feelings. And the plot could go along with that.

But from time to time, as you see with this series, I enjoy a more 'fast burn' book. As long as the story is interesting enough and the characters are loveable. And that's the case. I like the idea and the plot - even if not really much happens - and the characters are funny. I like Ripley. She doesn't take crap from anyone, and she loves her library. And Reyson is something else. The same goes for each of them. They all have unique traits, that makes them authentic and funny in some ways.

I'm exited to know the end. Especially after the little cliffhanger.

A fun read

This was a pretty good read. There were parts where it dragged a little for me but for the most part I enjoyed it.

I love that Ripley is a sexual person in nature and I liked most of the men. Especially, Felix and Reyson. I’ll have to say however, that it did get a little annoying being in the men’s heads, and hearing them talk about their past conquest. Not by name at least but it got to the point where I was like I get it, you were tricked by a wench who you thought you were going to sleep with, yes you screwed a warlock and a witch at the same time, oh you’ve screwed every supernatural being out there?

Cool, personally I don’t think we need to know about who the men have been with in the past, because it does nothing to enhance the romance or the story at all. I was however, able to bear with it, because we also kind of hear about Ripley’s (conquest) in passing too though not as much as the men’s, but at least there’s an equal playing field on that. There’s also no ow drama, and the men are loyal to the fmc so there that, but it did get annoying to me after a bit. Especially since I’m the type of person who gets jealous on behalf of the fmc.

Other than that it’s a pretty fun read. I really enjoyed the concept of a necromanced Egyptian god wanting to make a witch his wife and a familiar turned human.

Ripley’s risks everything when she bravely and brazenly joins forces with Reyson, Balthazar, Felix, and Gabriel, to break Bram’s Demon Master out of a trap in “Discord”, The Library of the Profane, Book 2. Brilliant, imaginative, entertaining and engrossing, I loved every single minute! I loved all of these characters! So beautifully developed! So filled with personality! So sassy and so much FUN! The story is fun as well, filled with humor, heart and oh my, scorching hot, perfectly timed, perfectly placed, and at times why choose, heated perfection! No spoilers, nuh-uh, not gonna tell zippidy do da - nada! The story moves along smoothly, held my interest throughout and made perfect sense! The multicast narration that brings this book to life is truly fantastic! Every character in every scene, every line felt like it was actually happening, taking place live! It was believable and it was breathtaking! I listened at 1.0 and I will be listening again. This one was THAT good. Five fantastic stars!

This is the second book in the Library of the Profane series by JB Trepagnier. Besides me being obsessive about my series reading, I highly recommend you read Chaos (Book 1) first.

As I said in my review of the first book, Ripley is a witch who runs the Library of the Profane. I will admit that I am jealous of her in this library. I would LOVE to spend some time there! So now Ripley has a god, a vampire, two warlocks, a hellhound and her familiar and they are trying to save the world! Or something like that.

The only problem I had with this story is that I forgot who everyone was initially. That’s why I recommended reading the first book! I loved how Kaine and a younger Beyla (from Final Curtain) have guest appearances in this! Ms. Trepagnier is so magical creating these universes and characters. I love them so much! Anarchy is the third book of the series and releases in September, 2021. I can’t wait, but now I’ll re-read both Chaos and Discord before reading that one!

I borrowed it via KindleUnlimited before I was given this ARC from Booksprout in exchange for an honest review. As I’ve said before, I always give honest reviews whether people appreciate them or not.

I have been waiting for this book since I read the first one and picked it up right away. As usual, this book doesn't disappoint. I had so much fun reading about the characters learning more about each other, correcting the misconceptions they had of each other and the most important: bonding over food. Honestly, this book was just as chaotic as the first and that was what made it fun. Serious moments were balanced with moments of hilarious antics and caring for sentient books. Makes me jealous of Ripley, no other librarian gets to have this much fun in real life. I can't wait to see what else Trepagnier has in store for the Profane universe she has created for us. I even did a whole blog post for the book. Check it out if you want to read my full thoughts on the book!

In this second book in The Library of the Profane Series by JB Trepagnier, Ripley our leading witch and librarian continues forming her group of a God, a hellhound, a vampire, a warlock, and Felix her familiar now in human form, to continue their battle against Dorian Gray who has made a pact with a demon and now refuses to pay the price for it, along with his evil counterpart, witch Silvaria who was forming her own army of demon-tainted souls. The action gets more intense as does the frequency of the sex in this reverse harem between the various members of Ripley's group of men. The writing is fun and very entertaining even though it is about a rather dark subject. Also on a positive note, this book ends with an intentional cliff-hanger which is much better than the earlier book did. I look forward to reading book three of this entertaining supernatural series. I couldn’t wait for the audio release so I’ve plowed ahead lol. Wow, this went in a way different direction than I was anticipating! Still really enjoying it though! I think if I was reading it before the other books had been released I would be pretty angry with how the books just drop off. Like it’s not even a traditional build up and devastate you cliff hanger, it’s like they decided the book was exactly long enough mid-plot and just ended it until next book. 😅

I still love the FMC and her H; I love that we see more of her sister & that her familiar is changed too! The subplot with Bram & the hellhound slavery is upsetting, but in a “I really hope they fix this” way. I love the dynamics growing between the men too, Felix is bonding with a few, Balthazar is charming his pant off with everyone, Reyson is a riot and incredibly sweet, and Gabriel is finally becoming a little less bitter and joining the shenanigans.

*Audiobook Review*

I love a multi-POV and this definitely benefits being a full cast duet. It really brings out so much of the snarky humour and banter between the characters. The chapters are a little on the short side for me but there was still enough action and development to keep me engaged. Reyson is still my favourite but Felix and Balthazar are closing the gap. Bram and Gabriel didn't feel as prevalent but hopefully we'll get more of them in the next book. And the villains! I did enjoy the introduction of Raven and Cain but I'm ready for a face to face now after all the build up.

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read.

I loved this story even more than the first! Great world building and wonderful characters. I absolutely love the harem vibe here! None of the guys are possessive (in a restrictive way from the others) or jealous of each other. I like the relationships and bonds forming between them and how they all interact with each other. Ripley continues to be awesome and I love her personality. The main plot continues to be both exciting and mysterious.

This audiobook is fantastic! I love all the narrators. They suit their characters perfectly. And I can't stress enough how awesome it is to have each narrator voice their character regardless of whose chapter POV it is. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite audiobook series to listen to! It's a long list of narrators, and I don't know which one voices Reyson, but he continues to seduce me with every word. Someone please tell me who it is- I have to find more of his work!!

I absolutely love this series and all the characters in it(except for two obviously). Once I saw the second book in the series was out I got it immediately and started reading. The several month wait was agonizing but so so so worth it. The relationships between everyone in the group are coming along nicely. I absolutely adore when Rayson and felix hang out together, I Stan them wholeheartedly with their snack obsessions. The plot is also coming along nicely and they finally had a win(of sorts). The group is doing their best to make sure they take down the baddies while also digging deeper to see how far this plot goes and who else might be involved. I cant wait for the next book, I needed it like yesterday.

Slow, but fun.

I had fun reading this. Reyson is such a badass sweetie. He is so fun and quirky that you forget he is an all powerful god at times. Ripley is having that problem too as it seems she is starting to warm to the idea of a bond with the Oreo-obsessed hunky God of Chaos. We learn more about the other guys, Ravyn and familiar make an appearance, as well as a character that I was not expecting (and has her own story set a few years in the future from this tale).

On the down side, there was not a huge amount of action and it seems like this is merely the information dump portion of the trilogy (?) before everything goes to hell in the next book. I was surprised that thee is still no direct input or appearance by either Dorian or Silvaria. But here’s hoping a certain snobby-demon-deal-breaking witch gets what’s coming to her in book three.

The mystery builds right along with the characters feeling for one another. They are on the hunt to try and figure out how to keep a witch from gaining power and destroying the demon contracts. At the same time, they also know that what she is offering others who have contracts with demons is not true. They go on a mission hoping to finish it all off, but unfortunately, have of the pieces were missing so they are back to brainstorming.

Ripley is beginning to get attached to every male who has come to their group and they are also beginning to really like her as well. She really knows how to make each one stand out and feel loved. Her and Reyson are growing closer to one another while so enjoying other members of the harem. This book finally has a few more spicy scenes so that is great and many of the men are involved.

Also, we are introduced to her sister and her sister’s familiar in this book and that is pretty awesome. Another character was introduced that seems very strong and will help them on this mission.

At the end of the book, a small cliff happens and one of the members goes missing accidentally. I hope this doesn’t destroy the harem. I don’t think it will, but we will see.

Please note that in order to read this one, the previous work Chaos must be read first. In my case I had to reread Chaos before jumping in to this work and I am glad that I did. Discord picks up right where Chaos ends and I am not at all disappointed. I loved the, pardon the pun, chaos that occurred throughout the work. There were so many twists, turns, smut, new characters that overall the whole work was amazing. I loved the growth that occurred over the course of the story along with all the humor the author added in. I loved this work and will be rereading it again before the next work.

I give this a five out of five stars.

Discord, the second book of the Library of the Profane series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Again, this series has such a great premise with the sentience of the library and some books. I chuckle every time the librarian, Ripley, or her customers discuss the werewolf porn section-- too funny, especially the questions the books inspire from readers when they meet a real werewolf.

There is a nice twist on Dorian Grey's background, which fuels much of this book's plot line. Lots of originality and humor.

I'll add, I hate the way the author abruptly ends each book, as if she's cutting us off mid-story, rather than wrapping up a sub-plot and setting us up for the next book. Frustrating.

The audiobooks have parts that add to the experience and then other parts that are distracting. I like the narrators but there is something about the cadence that knocks me right out of the story. It isn't just one narrator. Not sure if it is a style choice or just a combo of words or 'internal dialogue' & their way of delivering. It wasn't as distracting in the first book (even though same actors).

A part of me wants to reread written with the narrators' voices in my head but using my own reading pace. (shrug)

This book world is interesting and the hellish mysteries continue. I am looking forward to finding out how it is all turns out.

There are some authors who I read for the characters, some for the storyline and some for their personality which shines through their work. I read JB Trepagnier for all of the above! You can't help but get invested in the worlds she creates. Ripley is a strong, unapologetic FMC with the yummiest collection of men. The dynamics between not only the men and Riley, but each other is so fun to watch unravel and let me just say I was never happier than when Balthazar got the witch/God sandwich he had been dreaming of! I NEED to know what happens next and you too will be waiting on bated breath!

'Discord' is a fast paced adventure in which Ripley and her crew are on a mission to help freeing Talvath for Bram, and to bring down Dorian & Silvaria. This book was more of a character building story as individual relationships to Ripley but also as a group. We get an introduction to her sister helping out with the gang on their mission, as well a couple new characters. The storyline is well written, and flows seamlessly. It does end abruptly and with uncertainty. It's definitely ramping up for one helluva fight. So excited.!

Every time I read these I crave the food I want my harem to cook for me. -moment of silence for my lace of a harem of sexy guys- This plot just keeps getting crazier as the books go on. I love the shared world aspect Kane and Beyla are amazing in Final Curtain and the plot is just as good. I can't wait to see where they both go and I can't wait to read about the museum too. I can't wait for all the sexy group stuff and for the bad guys to get their asses kicked!! It was a great read if I wasn't laughing I was on the edge of my seat.

Can't take the loads of useless information

I've never been so frustrated when reading. Almost gave up then decided to just skip the incessant nonsense, but finding the point is like looking for a particular grain of sand at the beach.
So so so SO repetitive! Every sentence of dialogue is followed by the character's inner thoughts and insecurities about every thing and every one under the sun... over and over and over again.
Even during SEX! Which is another big problem, but I won't get into that because I really don't enjoy giving bad reviews. There are several reasons I'm not moving on to the next book.
