This author let me down

First of all, I really try not to leave low reviews. Reviews are helpful for authors so here is mine. This book was aggravating me. Another reviewer says it reads like high school. It definitely is not a college book. The character is from foster care, spent time in a shelter and a detention center so she has to be tough and has to have street smarts. She is not. This author really let me down. The premise was so nice but this did not deliver. Not only is this girl naive, she is immature. She is getting bullied and harassed and constantly puts herself in danger. Dumb dumb dumb. Being from foster care, having to fight battles, she should not be an idiot but every chapter, she is around this group of people who spikes her drinks, burn her hair, and sets her up. How many times do you have to be assaulted for you to wise up? People are constantly telling her those people are bad news but she is so dumb and she is very weak. No orphan who basically had to raise themselves is not this dumb. Then, she questions and is so childish around the four who are supposed to be her protectors.

I was looking for a new author to invest my time and interest in but this missed the mark. I struggled to finish this book. I do not relish in giving this review. Going forward, I hope this author tailors each character to something real. And I hope this author researches as well. No dean at a college does all the stuff the dean in this book did. Ma'am, that is an academic advisor.

*4,5 star review

Gabriella is starting college, hoping to make a fresh start and build a better life for herself. Unfortunately, her fresh start doesn't come easy, especially when she finds out that the four men who made her life hell in high school are called kings in her new college. Desperate, she asks for help and protection from the four kings of a different dorm: Alexei, Leonid, Olezka and Sacha. These men come with their own bagage though: do they bring protection or new problems for Gabriella?

I have to say: I really enjoyed this book. I like the idea of four dangerous men who are so focussed on themselves that they deny everyone around them even a scrap of attention, until they meet the woman who really reaches their heart. The multiple POV gives you a view on their feelings and emotions, but it still keeps a little mistery around Gabriella and her guys. Gabriella is a young woman with a troubled past, but it didn't make her hardened or though; it feels more realistic that way, and it makes her into an fmc I can relate with. The only thing that did bother me a little was the way she puts way too much trust in the women around her. It was the only part about her personality that didn't seem to fit with who she was and everything she has been through.

I absolutely recommend this book to the fans of contemporary RH, and especially those that look for the dangerous bad boys who become big teddybears around the woman they love and devote themselves too. Slight warning though: this book does end in a cliffhanger, but with plenty of potential for the rest of the series.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

To be fair, this is the first in a series, so we could expect the heroine’s character development to stretch over future books.
Still, it’s a VERY slow start. The author sets up the premise and then pretty much has Gabriella stumble from one catastrophe to another. The most interesting parts are when she slowly builds rapport with the four Kings, who provide her with protection against the mean girls and some guys who assaulted her back in high school.
But she’s irritatingly passive. She keeps hanging out with girls she knows do not mean her well. She has repeated run-ins with her former assailant, but it doesn’t occur to her to visit a self defense class?
I hope she becomes more assertive at some point over the series, but so far, it’s meh.

I took a chance on this new RH series and I'm glad I did. Gabriella has had troubles in her life but she is still open to making friends and taking a chance on relationships.

My favorite character was Olezka and I hope to see even more of him going forward. He was so cute and shy.

It does end on a cliffhanger but that just makes me want the next book more!

Good read

This was my first time reading this author. I liked it and I’m ready to read the next installment. The only thing I didn’t like was Gabby being to trusting of the women she surrounded herself with. Her trusting nature was a bit annoying and I wanted to fight the women for her.

massive let down

Interesting premise but characters don’t make sense. Plot keeps setting up the exact same problem for heroine and she blindly runs into it over and over. Ends on a cliffhanger.

RTF. This girl deliberately gets herself into tuff situations so she can be rescued, she is weaker than runny shit, having such a big IQ she is dumber than dumbo. The beginning of this bk she talked tuff but boy was i wrong. 1 1/2 stars
