He had managed to cheat death yet again, slipping past slavers, assassins, even an opposing army, all for the sake of a city in peril and the girl he loved.
Now all he had to do was climb 10,000 steps, alongside a dozen or so hopefuls and a handful of hardened killers, and make it up to the summit in one piece.
Then they would be forced to accept him as a student, no matter how much they hated him!
Because he was determined to learn the academy’s darkest secrets...
Even if half the school wanted him dead.
Eager for a fast-paced Cultivation / LitRPG adventure filled with deadly adversaries, exotic adventures, and mighty cultivators fighting for the power to topple kingdoms? Then read on! - And for those new to the series, the adventure starts with Silver Fox & The Western Hero: Warrior Reborn!
I really have to stop reading so fast... now I gotta wait for book seven to come out!
This was awesome though. I wish studying could be as instantaneous as in this book. I just really don't get all the hatred from God Wifu's brothers and grandfather. They're insane.
This series started out being fun to read, but quick became too predictable. I’m all for a character with a slow and steady development, but when a character CONSTANTLY chooses to wait to level up for no good reason other than to make the readers wait it’s maddening! When the main character is constantly winning resources and then never uses them, only to lose them later is beyond frustrating! And when it happens so often that when he comes up on some awesome resource you aren’t even excited because you know he’s going to lose it. I wanted to like this series, I really did, but it hasn’t progressed at all, instead the author constantly uses the same plot devices over and over again. Will I read the next book? Probably not.
I'll try do without any spoilers and not too long...
It was decant read in series highly enjoyed 1st few books in this series... Was ok read & litrpg element are great but found frustrating read especial in parts wear he finally stops to study and increase abilitys, only to suddenly stop & instead spend absolute ages just chatting about most times nothing of importance. (Was frustratingly agrovating. ) Then huge dissapointment & minar spoiler hear still not doing a body and bone cultivation technique & 2 breathing technique at around 75% should be finished. (The light and dark qi ones.)
Final thoughts: Spends too much time talking instead of doing anything & too many words to say simplest of thing's that are hard follow at times. But at least not badly written Romance with his absolutely boring love interest. But did like the parts wear he gained skill in manipulation of elements shame not more of that... (lightning fun even if barely touched on.)
Bit worried about how book 7 will turn out and direction heard author is taking it. (Might be worst & turn into Romance one with dull love interest & lust filled mc hope wrong hear though. ) best books series so far I belive are around books 1-3 & maybe 4...
I must be almost as much of a masochist as Alex, as I look forward to these books even though they infuriate me at times.
In this case, Alex has made some much-overdue progress in his character given the world he finds himself in. While not going full villain, or really villain at all, he has finally grasped the necessity of terminating threats. It took until the end of the book to really hoist that aboard, but when your immortal enemies swear to destroy you you really can't pull your punches.
We'll see what the next one brings, but Alex is in the big leagues now, so time to break into Silver, bang one (or more) of the women who want him, and put his own pieces into the game.
Alex begins journey at the Phoenix academy. New friends, enemies old and new, damsels, danger, and a healthy dose of divine skullduggery. Its another great adventure for Alex, and friends. This particular book, more than the rest, had a lot of bantering and word play that seemed a bit lengthy. None of it detracting from the overall, but it certainly affects the pacing. Many prices are won and lost this turn, but I like where it all landed. It will be quite interesting to see where this story goes, and waiting for the next will be quite the trial indeed.
I find it wonderful that M. H. Johnson has adden an even better book to the story of Alex. Once started I had difficulty putting the book down, and now I'm left waiting for book 7. The twists and turns are sublime, while the development of interrelationships with new characters is breathtaking. Now what do I read until the next book comes out...
Another great book in an excellent series. I love the way this story has advanced. My only complaint is the inner monologue. This is book 6. If you’ve read the previous books then you know what Alex has been through. His rehashing everything in his read added like 100 pages in my head lol
Truly loved this series. Alex is the hero that I always wanted to be. The universe is so rich and developed beyond belief truly spectacular. Can't wait to read the rest. Love it 5 stars.
I could not put it down. The flow of words, the events that transpire and the characters that exist in this series are simply amazing. I can’t wait to see where the story takes me next time.
That’s what I have for coming across this series. Every book just gets better and better. A some what OP MC who manages to overcome a lot of obstacles placed in his way.
Overall story is pretty great. However, everything is SUPER IMPRESSIVE, INCONCEIVABLY POWERFUL, AMAZING... or at least the book is trying to tell you that it is. If you cut out a lot of the fluff and over the top descriptions, the book would still be reasonably long and enjoyable. It might also help the issue of random inconsistency throughout the book where characters come back to life, mysteriously transferring from one place to another, or otherwise utterly breaking 'facts/laws' of the world. Examples: Page 565 challenged to a fight by metal cultivator despite a couple pages before stating Alex couldn't be challenged for an hour due to cultivation base restrictions but it happens anyway without any effect(the author uses the challenge restrictions to justify why he's not mobbed by silver rank or higher level) Jing le died, head was ripped off, but ~100 pages later shes back and a part of the crowd watching him fight. (she screams when he's being attacked with fire page 555) Pg 617 elder Ru and Chun An(silvers) have been captured at the library in a vision from Wifu despite already being in Alex's pocket world And finally, why is he basically gaining zero strength from taking and consuming gold and silver soulstones? They're supposed to be one of if not the most powerful cultivation items but he's eating them like candy and gaining next to nothing despite their supposed incalculable power that includes being cursed with exceptionally negative karma as a counterbalance to their benefits. And yes, I understand that he's taking people's soul stones to ensure they are powerless in future lives
Excellent book again, although it is getting towards the skip pages of repetitive explanations this genre seems full of. Perhaps 7 can start with a training montage to skip forward a week or so in time as a minimum and not finally get Alex to peak Bronze without all the massive waste of pages. Yes, I know he needs to finally get his body cultivation (and maybe the damned book this entire novel was supposed to be about) even if he has to concoct one from the 3!!! libraries (or is it 4?) he now has access to since he eliminated all those curse cards, but leaping through Silver should be on the docket as well. Quite frankly, since he is already a player at the table, farting around in the mortal realm scraping for ranks is getting old..
“This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. I am simply saying that I liked it. I would like you to read it and make your own decision. After all, you are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
I will happily discuss the book with you on Goodreads if you are so inclined. As always, I am open to debates and arguments, but also vain enough to seek acknowledgement, so feel free to roast me or applaud my efforts. Either is acceptable, because if you are paying attention to me then you are at least considering the book. And THAT my friends is exactly why you see my comments here.
That was superb, I could add more but I think you need to just read it and enjoy the absolute chaos that Alex lives.
The magnificent fights and cultivating breakthroughs just add the flavour and beautiful girls/kitsunes & terrible villains the mighty filling to this fabulous book.
I for one will over look the rather frequent editorial gaffs (reported) as they are small and don’t grate too much and therefore don’t spoil the pacing.
The first 20% of this book is great, but the rest feels like a retread of the Dragon Academy arc. MC is tortured again, stalked by a stronger cultivator and his minions again, kills stronger opponents, makes very little cultivation progress. At this point Alex needs a consolidation novel to get up to silver before he gets abused again. Maybe a subtler game while he cultivates instead of the gruesome torture porn that seems to be his life now. Bumped it up to 4 stars because it had few editing mistakes.
Loved the series, but the cycle of events is becoming tedious. I literally skim the books now as generally one in three paragraphs is actually story while the other two paragraphs are fluff to try and build the epic ness of the moment. Miss the first books where the writing was to drive the plot and not to sell me as the reader on the universal importance and glory of whatever common act is taking place. Too much aggrandizing.
Loved the recent addition. So good! Had all the things I loved about previous novels and fixed the one thing that frustrated me as well.
In the other books of this series the MC earns epic rewards and items but can never claim any for one reason or the other. This drove me nuts. I’m all about the loot! This book he makes up for all he missed prior and then some!
The series just keeps getting better and better. The world is so deep and so huge and so well thought out that it completely blows me away. In the earlier books of the the series, Johnson made some plot decisions that I really didn't like. But happily, I now fully endorse them. If you like Easter and fantasy, or Ascension fantasy, you owe it to yourself to read this series.
Easily the best cultivation action series I’ve ever read. Not only are the characters colorful and complex, placed into a world where there is something amazing around every corner, but the sheer scope of that interaction is awesome. Add to that that the books are huge - tremendous value for the money - and you’ve got a book that you just can’t put down. Amazing great stuff! Highly recommended (17+)
Hits just as hard has the first. Minor spoiler in comment.
I liked story overall, good build up felt like it it could have went longer, felt short. It kinda just felt like a rehashed version of dragon academy and would have liked to see him in a school longer than one book. Besides that it finished solid. Can't wait for the next.
Magic? Check Cultivation fights to death? Check Hinted at love and old romance? Check Meddling gods and beings? Check
All of this combined makes the latest book in this amazing series. This is by far my favorite cultivation series because of the strength of the writing and how it includes very light litrpg to it too.
This is a series I can see myself reading again just for fun. I am a huge fan of the character development, the plot drives forward at a steady clip, and I find myself always wanting to turn another page.
If you’re wondering whether to stick with the series, my recommendation is a resounding yes!
My favorite LitRPG series. Was waiting for this new book in the series and it did not disappoint. Two issues with the book, the bad issue is it needed more editing , as there were several spelling and grammatical errors. The second issue is that it left me wanting more I read it in a day.
A fun read, but at times gets a bit too wordy and repetitive. I also found myself rolling my eyes at how every book now seems to have a new girl instantly falling for and calling the main character "hero". Would have given it 3 stars, but I still thoroughly enjoyed reading it, so I bumped up my rating by 1 star.
This was a pretty good addition to the series, in that the story finally sees some progression. In the other hand, the books are appearing to be more and more formulaic. Alex is incredibly predictable and continues to fail upward without addressing any of his known shortcomings.
Absolutely in love with this series. It's now risen to my number one following this book. It's like every sequel raises the bar in ways I couldn't previously have imagined. Couldn't recommend it more.
Filled with imagination rpg meets east and west and beautifully written maybe a little to much wordplay but worth the read and worth the minute to write the review !! Keep it up
Really enjoyed this book. A little flowery at times, well the whole series actually, but progression is continuous, and interesting. Really looking forward to book seven. Keep it up Johnson, good effort.
