This latest installment of Michael Arches Vanished series picks up shortly after Anointed ended. One of the things that I have really liked about this series is the female lead MC, Athena, who is a bad@$$, former Federal Prosecutor, turned super sleuth and hacker after she was shot in the head and nearly killed by the cartel that she was prosecuting. After entering WITSEC, she secretly became a devout defender, advocate and savior for women who become victims of human trafficking.
This story centers around a band of doctors and kidnappers who harvest organs from women they kidnap or purchase from human traffickers. Of course, this pits them up against Athena, and her motley crew, who are searching for a friend who has been kidnapped by the human traffickers and sold off to an organ harvesting doctor. This is not a spoiler alert since it was disclosed in the first 15% of the book. In typical Athena fashion, she makes sure the doctor and his mob get the just end that they deserve.
The ending has a finality to it that I have not noticed in previous books. I hope this wasn’t the end of the series and that Arches will be continuing it. Time will tell.
