From The Red Penguin Collection comes a Poetry Collection for the Soul of the Sea within us all...
the ocean waves is a poetry anthology that celebrates the relationships we form with the bodies of water around us. As the ocean is pushed and pulled by the sun and moon, we too are moved by the words we share with each other.

This rating and review is completely subjective because I don't know enough about poetry for it to be anything else. I've been trying to expand my literary horizons and experience poetry and so far the main thing I've come away with is this: poetry is overwhelmingly narcissistic. In this book, it is less about the ocean and more about the feeling and thoughts the author has about/near/involving the ocean. It just ends up too self-centered and so individually personal to the author that I am left unmoved. I want poetry that moves me like my favorite art - to make me feel something or spark my imagination. This collection (with three exceptions) just made me feel tired at the self-involvement of the authors. Looking at poetry collection that I've enjoyed, the one commonality I find is that the poems are outwardly focused, not inward. I prefer that.
the ocean waves is a collection of diverse poems that offer different perspectives on water: the ocean, the seas, the rivers that lead to them - for this reason, I appreciated this anthology and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys nature and new ways of seeing it
