Rate this book
In a tale of malevolence, treachery, money, and murders; a highly intelligent young black male embarks on a road to riches trafficking heroin as a means to an end. Twenty three year old Ja’nario “Jizz” Wade forms an alliance with his longtime school mate Cordell “Lil C” Simpkins while on a prison bid to mastermind and take over the dope game. With Jizz’s intellect and Lil C’s out of state connections, they quickly rise to the top of the food chain. But with their newfound wealth comes a plethora of problems. Crooked cops with an agenda to do nothing more than lock them away for life and rival hustlers mad at their position, devise all kinds of intricate plots to kill them off. So with both the police and shooters gunning for them, Jizz’s plans to run up a bag and get out of the hood has now been altered leaving him no choice but to resort to murder and more murder as the only level of understanding the streets know. Neck deep off in waters filled with street sharks and hood piranhas; will Jizz be able to make it out unscathed or will he fall victim and be consumed in the belly of the beast?

Day One is a weekly literary journal dedicated to short fiction from debut writers, English translations of stories from around the world, and poetry. Day One showcases just one writer and poet each week, with issues delivered directly to Kindles or Kindle reading apps. Each issue of Day One includes a letter from the editor, as well as occasional bonus content such as playlists, illustrations, or brief interviews with the authors.

With so many things competing for your attention in this increasingly digital world, it can be tough to figure out what to read next—especially if you are looking for fresh voices and new perspectives.

In addition to fresh voices, Day One offers unique visuals—we commission the cover art for each issue from emerging artists and illustrators—and each week subscribers can learn more about the artist as well as the genesis of the cover.
